Tell me your thoughts about "The Secret"

Oh my gosh this thread has gotten big! I love all of these interesting ideas and tips- thank you!

Now that I'm starting to follow the teachings in The Secret and A New Earth, I have noticed how my past actions/emotional states have attracted more of the same.

In the "classes" on A New Earth (get them at Oprah's website or itunes- I highly reccommend them- this book delves much deeper into the law of attraction, emotional pain and baggage), the author Eckhart Tolle and Oprah talk about negative emotions and grief and so on.

What they said was absolutely monumental to me. I had always wondered how you reconciled emotions like grief or sadness with The Secret. And what Tolle said was allow yourself to really feel it, and accept the emotion, then let it go. He says in his book "What you resist persists." A-HA! Feel the emotion, then accept the current reality/situation, and let the emotion go, instead of wallowing in it and making it your state of being. It seems so simple, but so different from the way we do things on this planet.

And, he also mentions along with "What you resist persists"- that this is why the war on disease, the "war" on drugs, etc. have not worked. They're doomed to failure.

SO fascinating.

I listen every day in my commute to these classes, and I find myself going, "Oh!" "A-ha!" - I'm sure I look like a moron. So, if you're driving down 55 and see a girl emphatically nodding to herself- that's me. :)

"Stand Guard at the Doorway of your Thoughts" It's one of my favorite quotes.

. Nature abhors a vacuum, once you release those negative attitudes, your find more good coming to you!

I adore both of these quotes/ideas. Love them!!!

Everything that happens around us, we create and have created. :goodvibes

To me - and this is just 'my' opinion. Not the people questioning it, or having questions / concerns about it - but the people AGAINST it - are (again, IMO) the one who are doing 'the devil's work' if you will. I cant see how anyone wouldnt want peace, serenity, joy, calm, and happiness for anyone else. Someone who doesnt want that for anyone - is the person who is 'evil' if you want to use words like that. Am I the only one who feels like that?

Imzadi What a cool thing to have met Marianne. She's an amazing woman. Return to Love was on of the most incredible books of all time. I am a real fan of THe Course in Miracles.

I thought of another tool I use. Change your attitude about your bills! Welcome them and bless them. Instead of thinking "Dang! The electric bill is here!" Think "Thank you for this bill and everything it represents! Thank you for the lights, the comfort, the security and being able to see Lost! ;) THank you for all the people willing to do the dangerous job of bringing electricity to my home"

When you change the way you look at a bill and what that bill represents in your life you'll find it becomes easier and easier to pay.

Then when you pay the bill seed your money. Spiritual law says that everything you put out is returned to you tenfold. So when I pay that $100 electric bill I bless it again and say thanks for the tenfold which is on it's way. I say something like this, "God thank you for the $1,000 which I have now recieved! I am truly grateful! I also Thank you for the electric bill and all it represents in my life. Thank you for the lights, the comfort and the security! I am truly grateful!!"

I think that one thing has made the biggest difference in my life when it comes to day to day financial security. When you resent the bills you owe - it's really hard to create the money and the motivation to pay them. That resentment builds and builds and creates blocks to you actually being able to pay them.

ETA: Thanks Catherine! I love that follow your bliss one a lot too. "Stand Guard at the doorway of your thoughts" came from a book called "The Way Out" It a little but amazing book written by the same man that anonymously wrote "The Impersonal Life" If you're in financial crisis I highly recommend it, if you can find it. It's out of print right now and not easy to locate. But if you see it.... snatch it up (and send it to me :lmao:)

I understand what your saying about people that are against this belief. It can seem evil and beyond comprehension sometimes. But personally I try to remember that they are just expressing at the level where their consciousness exists. People dismiss these concepts do that out of fear. Fear that they'll have to do the work to heal their lives, it can be a lot easier to sit and wait for a miracle for some people. And some resist because then they have to take responsibility for the the mess their own life is in. They don't want to believe that they created the mess they are in. It's a lot easier to blame it on a capricious God, or the economy, or anything other then ourselves.

:grouphug: to all of you. This thread and the wonderful people on it have made me smile!!

A very good day to you all. :dance3: And a really big  right back at you ROBIN!

These new posts were a great find to wake up to. Yes, I was "excited" but I did sleep a little. (And very well, I might add. ;) )

Will be busy today locating books I'm on fire to read. Also, confess profound ignorance here, but...BECKMRK04...how does one "use" the classes from A NEW EARTH that's on Itunes or Oprah's site? Is this in a format for an MP3 player or what? Would like to take advantage of this.

ETA: I discovered I already have the Media Player necessary to play the podcasts. Yay!

Just wanted to pop in and say Happy Afternoon!!!

Is everyone keeping their thoughts clear? :3dglasses

Whew! Back from book shopping. Found soooo many by Wayne Dyer but none that had been recommended on this thread. Skipped his others for now but did get YOU CAN HEAL YOUR LIFE by Louise Hay. Considered HEAL YOUR BODY but read portions from it are in the book I bought.

What's this "arf arf" business??? :scared:

:grouphug: Hugs & happy thoughts to everyone here, too! :dance3: :grouphug:

Good for you. :) Are you feeling better today? Download the free copy of Receiving Prosperity too, especially since you know you have Windows Media Player. Her voice is so warm & soothing. She just embraces you in a big, warn hug of wellness. It will help you hear her voice in your head as you read the book. :music:

Sign up for the e-news letter, (they don't send spam,) then download it. (It's not the full version if you listen online.)

The "arf arf" is because CR has a pic of her dog Charley in her signature. :dogdance:

I really *am* feeling better today. Thank you, Imzadi! I believe knowing now that there is a source of help to me that I wasn't aware of until yesterday has already had a positive effect. :thumbsup2

What about you? Reading something new and inspiring at the moment? :hyper:

Thanks for your thoughts/perspectives on my post. Interesting to read. I'm just really personally enjoying all the pluses of pushing through what some would consider "negative" emotions/states lately. Facing them head on. And without doing that I just, in my life, wouldn't be where I'm at. Which is lovely.

Really, I'm not the antithesis of what you are all loving. :lmao: ;) . Just sharing.

I'm reading Marianne Williamson's The Age of Miracles. It's a wonderfully expansive & affirming read for someone heading into or in "middle age."

Marianne is the one who wrote the famous inspiring quote, which accidentally got attributed to Nelson Mandela. But Marianne wrote it in her book, A Return To Love, several years earlier:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Lisa, I read your post before your edited it. Then I went on to read some other threads here on the DIS where they were all bickering & it put me in a foul mood and didn't want to come back to post. It's amazing how contagious that energy is.

Anyways, I think I understand more what you mean. Like, no one wants to get cancer. But many people who've made it through have said having had it, they have become such a better person because of it: stronger, deeper, more compassionate, able to slow down & notice the important stuff, it realigned their priorities etc. And, in some ways, they're not sure that they would have had things happen differently, if it meant they couldn't be the person they turned out to be because of it. :)

I also agree with not stuffing feelings inside. ::yes:: That's why we have a society today that has so many drug & alcohol problems. People don't know how to have their pain & work through it. They numb it instead. :drinking1

I've been reading this thread with interest. I had a close friend who often spoke of these things but I had no idea what she was referring too. I bought and read The Secret because of this thread and now I'm interested in doing further reading. So far it makes sense.

I wonder about the negative thoughts in some ways though. What about music, TV and those around you? You can definitely be influenced by such factors IMO.

Also, I wondered again about the effect others could have on you. I can't quite understand the interaction between your path and a loved one's path if they don't quite match up. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for talking about this. I definitely have a lot to think about. :)

Just came across this thread and skimmed through it a bit. The thing is the Secret is really based in physics. It is also a LOT harder to master than just thinking positive .

Something cool I wanted to share. I have been practicing the Secret for sometime and I had really wanted to meet Jillian Michaels ( a bunch of personal reasons ) because she was really inspiring to me. So I went to bed everynight and envisioned it. Out of nowhere I get a call from a friend of mine ( Jen Widder who was on the Biggest Loser 5) . She is like " Hey Jillian is going to be in NYC. " Next thing you know 2 days later I am having the most amazing experience talking to her.

I didnt know this at the time but she is so full of " The Secret" ! Everything she says and does. Its in her speech her actions. After talking with her I went out later that week and bought her book. Everything in that book that is in a grey box pertains to the secret!!!

The Secret sounds much easier to ear than it is to actually fully understand. Its base is in science . Think quantum physics . Its so much more than just thoughts. Its emotions and the energy we give off when we feel things. Its documented that our bodies generate energy and give off a magnatisim. (sp?)

I know this sounds corny but thats why I love the Dis boards. It helps me relax and feel good .

The hardest thing for me so far has been learning the part where you dont let others affect your mood /enviorment. Still working on that.

::yes:: I think the key is to monitor how you feel after you watched or listened to something. Like I could never watch Politically Incorrect with Bill Mahr when it was on. No matter what the topic, all their arguing back & forth made me anxious. :crazy2: They showed this at night & expected people to sleep afterwards? :confused3

Some stuff, I think of as junk food on TV. Like I got sucked into watching The Bachelorette. Deanna drives me crazy sometimes. And we go on the thread to complain about her :badpc: But, to me, it's like eating a bag of potato chips. You know it's unhealthy, but you can't stop. :p

Also, I wondered again about the effect others could have on you. I can't quite understand the interaction between your path and a loved one's path if they don't quite match up. I hope that makes sense.

Hmmm, this reminds me, we never did answer MSMouse on asking about "Opposites attract."

I think relationships are so complicated. I believe we get into them, ultimately, to grow our souls. There is a soul agreement we make. So we might not pick them for the reasons we consciously think we pick them. So when we choose someone who is opposite from us, or on a different path, it is to learn from each other.

Or, well...okay, only one person seems to learn, while the other remains a dunce. :sad2:  Author, Iyanla Vanzant, says she always thanks her ex-husband (the idiot he was, ;) ) because he taught her so much. That on some levels, that was his gift to her, he loved on a soul level to teach her. She said she had to grow a lot in the areas of self love, self-deserving, standing up for herself.

Then when the Universe sent her another person, very much like her ex, it was a test to see if she got the lessons, and/or isn't this what she wants? She had chosen 2 other guys like this. :confused3 She says to say to the Universe, "Thank you for sending this, but I've already learned what I need to from this type of relationship. Please send someone different." And to visualize & affirm the kind of relationship you want. Iyanla & Louise Hay both say, when the Universe sends you something that isn't right for you, you CAN send it back and request again. Make sure you thank the Universe while sending it back. :)

Harville Hendricks, in his book, Getting the Love You Want also talks about how relationships are here for growth. How much can you learn from someone if they are exactly like you? How you might not pick someone you necessarily get along with, but will grow from.

I think not all relationships are meant to last. There is a famous quote, A reason, a season, a lifetime:
http://www.yuni.com/library/docs/631.html

And I found this one by a woman who sounds like she had been through a lot and paraphrased the quote. I include it because we aren't trying to be airy-fairy here on this thread. This woman has something to teach about her negative experiences too:
http://areasonaseasonalifetime.blogspot.com/

Three other authors who are into having & creating conscious soul relationships are: Gary Zukav and the husband & wife team: Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks. They do relationship workshops all over the country.

I wonder about the negative thoughts in some ways though. What about music, TV and those around you? You can definitely be influenced by such factors IMO.
There is a very good answer to the negative thoughts that come through TV, music and those around you: turn them off. Shut the TV off, only play CDs of music you enjoy when you listen to the radio and (hard part) walk away from people who want to draw you into their negativity.

Some people think it's going to be the TV they can't live without, but trust me it gets easier. Only watch movies you enjoy. If I'm in the room when someone else is watching commercial programs, I'm flabbergasted and stunned by all the commercials for this drug or that drug to keep you safe from incontinence, heart attack, cancer, cholesterol, etc. It's no wonder people are depressed: they're being told at every station break they're either going to die or suffer unless they take this pill. Turning off the TV is good for your health in more ways than one!

As for others around you who are bringing negativity into your lives, most of those people you can easily walk away from. While it's difficult to eliminate family and coworkers, the friend who always seems to bring you down can be walked away from. The choice is yours: populatity with these people or your own well being. If you can't walk away from them, then let them know that you're no longer participating in their habits. Don't argue with them or try to get them to see things your way, just state that you'd prefer to not discuss whatever it is that brings you down.

My old standby line? I'm worth whatever it takes to help me be a happier, more balanced, person. I may love you, but I love me more.

KikiFan- that you SO MUCH for sharing your ideas about paying bills. I am going to try that.

I have to confess, bill paying and money are my biggest struggles. I constantly struggle with feelings of lack in the money area (although I have made a lot of progress).

But, I think that if I employ your practices of paying bills, I can really turn things around! :yay:
