Two weeks from tonight, my wife, three kids and I will be spending our first night here. Have read many good things about the villages.....would like to hear some more....and even some bad things if there are any!!!
Allegedly, we get 100-dollars cash for taking up their offer to stay...and allegedly, you get it even without listening to their sales pitch.
Any experiences out there? Anyone decline the sales presentation? How easy was it...and did you get the bonus?! Thanks!!

The worst thing is having to leave and to go home. We took them up on that offer this summer and when you get there they will offer you an additional 75.00 to take the tour. I did not bother since I had timeshare "presentationed" my way on this last vacation and did not want to do it again. If you have the time take the tour but the extra money was not worth it to me seeing as I had taken two other tours and all told saved close to 3000.00 buy doing so on the vacation. They absolutely do not hassle you about it.

I'll say the same, it is a great resort!! Nothing to complain about, new and beautiful. You'll have to leave to go out and eat at a restaurant and the tennis courts are way off to the side but other then that it is a great place. I would love to go back.

The worst thing is the Starbucks coffee served at the convenience store is extremely hot...............really, there is nothing bad about VV. We loved it!

How long a drive would you say it is from your condo to the front gates of Disney? (Let's say those toll booths...)

We loved this place too - my only complaint was that the frogs in the pond were loud at night ;)

There are no toll booths on the way to the gates. It's about a 10-15 minute drive to the gates, we went in April and traffic was never a problem at all.

I hated the huge frogs in the swimming pool! Eww! Loved everything else!

We are just back from the V V with the same deal. We checked in after 10pm, so were told to talk with Joe the next morning for our "100 cash" and coupons. The next morning Joe was not at the desk but another man was. He said "so would you like $175 cash or X amount of Starwood points?" I told him I was taking the cash. He said "when would a tour be good for you?" I told him no tour......that I wasn't required to do so. He told me I was right, but that he could offer another $75 if I did the EASY tour. I took the $100 cash and did not schedule a tour. The next morning there was a letter under our door, once again nicely asking us to book a tour. We did not call to book one, and were not asked again.

I did like the grounds, but the room itself was not quite clean to my standards. (Certainly not filthy, just not sparkling clean. ie food residue in the can opener (lots), lots of dust on all fixtures, mirrors, fake plants; dirt around baseboards, and sand just about everywhere.) I also found the rooms to be very small, but workable. One great feature:washer and dryer. Each day when we returned our family's clothes would go in the washer which meant less laundry once home. I also felt great about spending so little to stay at the villages since we headed to the BWI on Disney prop. and spend a bundle there.

My kids loved the pool (wonderful for 22mo old - great baby pool area.) Also "dive in movie" was shown by the pool w/free popcorn one night.

I would stay there again w/the great offer we had, but would not pay rack rate for this resort.

could you please let me know where you get the offer on this property of $100 free and the best rates as im looking to book this for june next year , any info would be great
thank you margaret.

I have a Starwood Preferred Club card (it's a frequent stay club card) which I rarely use but from what I gather it is how we got the offer. They actually called us last year (2003) and we had a year to book. I know there is also a thread on this board all about the Starwood club........it never hurts to join and you may get offers that way.

Somehow, some way, we got a post-card offer in the mail....$55 a night for a 1-bedroom condo....we upgraded to a 2-bedroom for 70 a night.

Well, do you really want to know? We stayed at the Villages two years ago and would not stay there again due to the deplorable customer service we received. Several issues arose--We were renting a stroller from ABBF, it was in the luggage closet. After we checked in and went to our villa, I went back to get the stroller. I waited over 45 minutes for someone to come and open up the storage area to get the stroller for me. The worst part was that they kept telling me it would be just a few minutes and when I asked if they could bring it to our room was told no they couldn't. When we checked in, we verified that we needed a portacrib and highchair and were told they would be delivered soon. The whole time I was waiting, they still had not arrived at the villa. Called when I got back and were told they would be coming "soon." Finally put the baby to bed in the big master bed and the crib arrived around 8:30--4 hours after we had checked in.

Okay, we were ready to enjoy our vacation and put this behind us. A couple of days later, my DH bumped another car while backing out of the parking lot. We stopped and got out and this guy--employee--bellowed down from the balcony above that we were not to go anywhere. He was calling security and had our license number so we better not try to leave. Excuse me??? We Were both out of the car and had been discussing how to find out whose car it was. So, security came, located the owners of the car who came out and said, "Looks fine to me. I have that dumb rental car insurance anyway, so I don't care." and went on his merry way. Security was not as rude as the maintenance guy, but that one really through us for a loop.

Throughout the week, we could smell paint and hear random hammering. The first few days it wasn't bad and only occassionaly did we have to step around a cart in the hall area with repair and painting stuff on it. Then, by about Weds, there was stuff all over the place in the hall. To the point that I was worried my kids would trip. We let it go for the first day. THe second day we called the front desk to complain. On this same day, there appeared a huge bin/hamper type thing with dirty linens in it by the elevator. It also did not go away. Friday night, the noises from the apartment next door were getting louder and louder. When they turned on what must have been a vacuum at 12:30 at night, and woke up the baby, I lost it. I called the front desk again. We had called two other nights and each time they pretended to not know where the noise could be coming from. No more help this night either.

Upon check out, I tried to complain to the manager or someone more influential than the desk clerk. I was given a card with an address on it. Okay.....I wrote them a letter. THe response I got back was basically "We are sorry your stay did not live up to your expectations. We hope you will stay with us again." Uhhhh, no I won't.

So there you go--you wanted the bad, you got it! And yes, this was the Vistana Villages on International Drive. Someone told me when I first posted about this that I had to have the wrong property. I don't.

Isn't this the resort with many different phases, some of which are great, and others old and run down?

You will get a lot more information on www.tug2.net

JudyS - No, you are thinking of the Vistana RESORT which is a much larger place with a mix of new & older blgds. The Villages are newer.

Thanks for sharing the experience, disneymom3...sorry it was so bad for you.
I wonder if they were brand new at the time? (I didn't think the villages were much older than 2.)
We had a completely unrelated experience at a hotel near us in the New York area awhile back...and I remember getting very little satisfaction (I think a bottle of champagne which I don't even drink!). A chunk off my bill would have been more appreciated!
