Tell me something I don't know about POP!

We traveled to Pop last Septmeber and stayed in the 90's building. It was a pretty far walk (in the evening with a sweaty sleeping 3 year old). The resort was great though. We loved the bunnies and lizards.

In the evening our little one loved "pool hopping", twister, and playing tag on the life sized foos ball court.

The last evening we did our laundry by the computer pool. It was not crowded, we swam while our clothes washed and dried and boy was it a relief to not have oodles of laundry to do when I got home.

The general package code was not available at Pop, but it was at AllStar Sports. I'm going Thanksgiving week, so availability was slim. My choices were Sports for $339 less than my Pop package, or CSR or CBR for $3 less. I chose the bigger refund.

Oh, I was just wondering, because we're going in Dec. and using the Disney visa code w/dining. I just wondered if it would be cheaper at a different location.

I could have switched to ASMusic or ASSports, for a savings of $452. I chose to stay at POP. Am I crazy?

I just wanted to thank you all for the ideas... this will be my first trip as well as my DH and my DS and DD.... can't wait.

Can anyone tell me about the fridge swap?

Thanks.

I think all values were the same. I don't have the Disney Visa, so I had to wait for the general code. Sounds like you are one of the few who got in at Pop with a code. Some also got in at other AllStars, but most will be at Sports. Sports is still showing availability for Thanksgiving week, but no other values.

Just read that they have bowling for the kids in the lobby everynight, however that was posted in May. Does anyone know if they are still doing it? We are going in 24 days. :cheer2: :cheer2:

We just got back yesterday. There was bowling when we were checking in, around 4 pm, in the lobby.

We just got back yesterday too.
Without re-reading all the pages, here are things we saw:

-yes, bowling in the lobby at 5pm when we got there. But there was about 25 kids lined up to bowl! You win a small keychain type prize for bowling.

-the dryers there actually can dry a load of clothes for $2.00!! (unlike ASMovies, where it took $6 and 2 hours!). It says it lasts for 30 minutes, but it goes longer than that.

-we walked along the lake, and over the bridge. There are tons of cute sea turtles there to look at. They come right up to the bridge when they hear you talking! So I don't know if they are looking for food (we didn't have any). But we would walk farther along, stop and talk, and they would follow us. Too cute. There was about 7 that day.

-we saw tons of people using old refillable mugs. Whether it is allowed or not, the CMs didn't seem to be stopping anyone!!

-lots of cute bunnies running around.

-Disney on lots of channels!! We watched lots of Hannah Montana at night while getting ready for bed!!

It was a fun place to stay.

We just returned from 10 nights at Pop also. Some things from our trip include:

  • The tv channels below like 40 do NOT have closed captioning. The channels above are the same channels but with closed captioning. The closed captioning was driving us crazy, so I called the front desk to ask about this.
  • The frozen coke is almost always gone in the morning and late evening. However, whenever we went in the early afternoon, like 1-3pm, it was available. We too saw TONS of people using old Pop mugs.
  • The lines in the food court are almost non-existant from 1-3pm.
  • For a cs on the ddp for breakfast, you get a meal PLUS 2 drinks. We often got chocolate milk to drink with our breakfast and then got bottled water which we saved for later.
  • The nachos are just as delicious as ever!!!
  • We were originally put in the 70's building, but we wanted a room closer to a parking lot. We were moved to 8158, first floor 90's section right in front of a small parking lot that was never full! It was perfect!!!
  • They close the pools whenever there is any threat of lightning. For us on our 11 day stay, this was basically daily from like 3-6pm. Oh well!
  • The buses were ALWAYS packed between 9am-11am. If you don't have a car, get on the bus early!!!
  • We loved ME! We took it and then rented a car from the Budget at Doubletree near downtown. They picked us up and delivered us wherever we wanted to go at the end of the week. We rented the car from Sat. to Sat. for $169 and went to Daytona Beach & SeaWorld with it.
[*]We tipped our mousekeeper $5 a day and she really appreciated it. We were in the room one time while she was cleaning and talked with her the whole time. She left us 2 towel animals - 1 was a "doll bunny" which was so adorable. The girls named her Jennifer.

Any questions, let me know.

we stayed at POP last year and I had no idea about all these activities we missed( bowling, hula hoops, chalk, etc.) I'll have to catch up on this board b4 we go!!:surfweb:

Do you know if POP will serve "egg beaters"? My DH can't eat normal eggs. Thanks for all this information and tips. Keep them coming. Going in 6 1/2 weeks.

The Ping-Pong was hot commodity at the POP. However, you must purchase your own Ping-pong ball at the pool bar for 50 cents and the paddles ....or shall I say the non-paddles... were kind of sad.
So next summer, we will definitely bring our own set.

WOW what a great thread:hippie: . We are heading over to POP in a few weeks and have really enjoyed reading everyones tips. We'll post updates ourselves:cheer2: when we come back.

Getting really excited 10 more days :cool1: :dance3: ..

okay a few quick questions... I have heard that DIS'ers decorates their window/door.. is this true and what do you do?

Since this is my first trip.. someone told us the other day that the rooms are extremely SMALL - how true is that? We have 4 in our party .. two adults and two children (5 & 2)

Thanks again for starting this thread... I have two pages full of everyone's ideas - sounds like a great resort.

We've stayed at Pop 4 times now. Three of those times was with our kids (and dh and I). Our kids are 15 & 11. The other time it was with another couple, so there were 4 adults in one room.

The rooms are normal sized hotel rooms, not overly small and not big. The bathroom is quite small, but with only one person in there at a time, it is "doable". The sink is outside the bathroom area and there is also an open "closet" area here with the safe. We bring our own hangers as Pop only provides a few and we hang up a lot of our clothes to save room in the dresser for other clothes. We also bring an "over the door" shoe holder to keep misc. toiletry items and tickets, etc. to keep things more organized.

In addition to this area, there are 2 double beds, a small table with 2 chairs and a dresser that has I think 6 drawers (3 big ones, 3 small ones) and shelves (3 I think). That is great for storage!

There is also a small dresser between the 2 beds. We used the top drawer (with the Bible in it) for our pj's. DH and I put ours in the drawer and the girls kept theirs on the shelf under the drawer.

We also "unpacked" and then stored our luggage on the rack above the closet area.

The rooms are not big or luxurious by any means, but Pop does a great job to provide you with storage options and if you take a little time when you arrive to properly unpack, you can stay organized for your whole trip.

We have been at the POP several times, 4 to a room. Our DDs are 8 and 1. We've made do, even with a pack and play in the room. Have a great time.
