Tell me all about Allstar Sports

mnasmom3, since we will ONLY be there from September 9th thru October 3rd we will have to TRY to fit you in. :rotfl2:

I added you to my SPORTS list. :thumbsup2

If you have small childen they will love running in circles around the football field and if you make sure they are outside MY room you will not have to worry about disturbing anyone.

I am going to try to make my ADR's tomorrow. I do not know what I want to eat in the next hour let alone 5 months from now!!!

See you there! You are a good SPORT for chosing this resort and I promise you will have a BALL!!:cheer2:

we stayed there by default 2 years ago. my husbands aunt booked it for us and we have been back once since and will be staying there again this september. I am not a sports fan nor are my two daughters, but i like the layout as compared to the other resorts and the themeing is fine. We love it.. hope you will too.

I would have to say that of all the value resorts, the Sport is our least favorite. It has been our experience that it seems to attract big groups of kids alone with no parents or chaperones. Maybe we were just in the wrong section (Surfs Up), but it was VERY loud and there were kids up ALL night at the pool with no supervision (2-3 am), and no one from the hotel told them to leave. It got to the point that I did not want to take my 10-year old son to the pool by myself because there were so many teenagers in the pool roughhousing and using foul language. Sorry to rain on the parade, maybe we just had a bad experience but I'm just telling it like it was when we stayed there last July. I would recommend Movies if you have small children, that's our favorite of the values.

Long stay! Lucky you! I think I'd have truancy officers beating down my door if I stayed that long. I have 3 school aged children from 5-9 yrs old.
You have a Sports list? Did ya post one on the forum so we can all see who's staying there? I plan on displaying my LGMH proudly. :rotfl2:

I've read a lot of reviews on this resort. As far as the traveling groups, I'm willing to bet this is pretty seasonal and there wouldn't be nearly as many in September as there would be during holidays or later in the school year. Of course, I suppose that could just be wishful thinking, but I'm not concerned that we'll be overcome w/unchaperoned groups of sports teams or what not. Not in September. I checked out the happenings at WDW for the week we're staying and there are no special events like that the week I'm there. At least not yet. :rotfl:

mnasmom3, I have always felt (might be wrong) that since school has not been back in session all that long there are not many school groups at that time of the year.

There were a couple of threads last year that listed where everyone was going to be staying on FD and where they had their ADR's. I did a bit of work on one of them and it just about killed me. Not sure if anyone else is brave enough to attempt it this year or not. I am not feeling well today so I am loathe to volunteer for much of anything.

If I get to feeling better and a bit braver I might consider it though as it was so useful in getting to meet each other. At least I would offer to help out if someone else wants to be in charge.

I also advocate printing out the great thread on Confirmed Snacks that jjohnson takes care of. Nothing as sad as having a treat and then finding something better a few feet away. :lmao:

DisneyBarlans, I hear your pain. I have had bad experiences somewhere and gotten a bad feeling but later read about others who had positive experiences. I have also had the opposite thing happen in that things were great one time and bad another. I hope you get your favorite resort choice, whatever that might be. :thumbsup2

Our first stay at Disney was at the All Star Sports.... At that time we didn't even care, we were excieted about going and had never stayed on Disney property (Plus it had been well over 10 years since my last trip) So I would have slept on a park bench just to be there... We loved the Sports! Granted we have gone back since then and stayed at the All Star Movies and the POP... I liked all 3 hotels.... Wouldn't have minded the All Star Sports for this September, but I really wanted the pool so again we are staying at the All Star Movies... Go and enjoy....;)

SlightlyGoofy.....not sure when you'll be there, but I'll meet you by the pool! :lmao: We'll be at ASSports Sept 22-29. One of the biggest factors for me when deciding on which of the values to stay at was the crowd factor. POP seems too POPular and more overPOPulated. Even though it was tops on the list for the others in my group, I was secretly happy when they told me it was booked for my days. That left the other 3. No one had a big preferrance for any of them so we chose Sports because it seems like it's the least liked theme, so hopefully it will be less crowded. The bus situation is also a big plus for me.

We have a 2 year old boy and a 7 year old girl that will also be staying there from Sept. 22nd - 30th. I stayed in the Hoops area last year and it was not a long walk and Hoops tended to be quieter than Surfs Up. princess:

Davids-Coco, if you should spot a smiling, grandmotherly looking woman smile while your kids, on a sugar high, are screaming and running around in circles on the football field, that would be me. :)

I am off to start a Sports All Star Thread. Will be easier on my poor frazzled nerves. :confused3

For you previous All Star Sports visitors - are there laundry rooms available? Are there change machines and detergent available? With a 14-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy, I would rather spend a little time doing a load or two of laundry instead of letting five days' worth of sweaty socks (etc.) pile up.

We're purposely staying away from Surf's Up. I requested building 7 or 10. Hopefully those won't be very noisy.

You can look at my signature and see that I may be a little biased on my opinion as well. . .but we always have a great time!! Now we also are the family that makes Early park opening annd Late night our ENTIRE trip. . .so we are not at the room THAT much!!!

We get lots of towel animals!!!

Football courtyarrd is NOT preferred. . .but it is OUR preference!!!! It is sooooo close to EVERYTHING!!!!

Is "Football" something you can reserve, or only request?

Not all buildings are created equal even if they are called the same thing. The only thing that SOME Surf's Up buildings are closer to is the laundry, over by the main pool to the right as you come through the main building from the buses. The ones straight across on the other side of the pool are close. Touchdown does not cost extra and many of those rooms, not all, are closer to the bus stops, parking lots and the food court, if you like that sort of thing. Not to mention you can let your kids blow off some steam on the playing field. (can you tell that I work with young kids from all my talk about blowing off steam???):rotfl2:

mnasmom3, I hate to tell you but nothing in this life, including DW is guaranteed but they do try to give you what you want. I was just kidding about the dining thread being difficult. Really. Would I lie to you?? I used that list last year, wore my brightest lime green shirt with huge lettering saying "Slightly Goofy" and met exactly NONE Disers on purpose. Met a few that were not on the list here and there though. :cheer2:

Kellie-in-Texas, if you run into a nice person who brings extra detergent and fabric softener you are in luck. (I do so) But otherwise it is expensive. I like those laundry tablets since they take up little space. If you or your family likes to swim you can do so while your clothes do their own double back flips. :dance3: We bring two suitcases and I put dirty clothes in one and when it gets full I pull it to the laundry room and hope to meet someone to talk to while I work. Ugh, hate laundry day.

So, are 7 or 10 high traffic areas? I like "close to the bus" since we'll be surely be trekking w/exhausted kids from the bus to our rooms at night. I requested them thinking the'd be far enough away from pool noise and still close enough to the food court and bus stop.

btw....I'll do your:laundy: if you watch my kids at the pool! :rotfl2:

slightly goofy and mnasmom3 you guy's can do my:laundy: and watch my kids ,While I'll take a (what's that word) VACATION:cool1:
Since were all staying at All Star Sports we should start our own thread.I haven't seen any started since I started this thread.
My DH and 2 DD's 3&6 will be their 8-30 through 9-11
Soooooo jelous of slightly goofy for going for so long.
laura

I only said I'd do laundry, never babysit anyones kids. :rotfl2: And I only said I'd do that if someone took my kids off of my hands for a few. :rotfl2: Really...I don't plan on doing a single load of laundry, so everyone in my group better stay relatively clean. Of course, that would all have to change if we were staying as long as Slightly Goofy. I don't think I have enough outfits to cover us for that amount of time! Still jealous..... :rotfl:

Ladies, nice try but I do not know how to swim so I will NOT be watching anybody's kids in the pool. I do not even 'babysit' for my own grandkids. Now they do visit me often, for hours, days and sometimes weeks but I have carefully trained them so that we visit rather than get sat on or by. :lmao: If your children love to read we can entertain each other by having literary conversations though. :thumbsup2

I am, however, available to swap clothes from washer to dryer. I am not totally heartless. :)

The secret to long trips without having to do much laundry is this - lots of underwear and the fact that you will probably never see any people at the resort again so you can get away with wearing clothes that you would never be seen in at home at the parks. If all else fails there is a WM nearby and I figure buying one or two new outfits is cheaper (considering what they charge to do laundry at DW) and easier. :teacher:

Almost any of the buildings can be quieter and near things IF you request the back of the building. Nice view of the parking lots but really is the view any better looking at the pool or laundry? JMO

Slightly Goofy who knows far more about the Sports than should be allowed.

I will be at sports because others choice won't be available, i know the pool will be closed, someone has the date ?

Surfboard Pool and Kiddie Pool closed for refurbishment from 8/27 - 9/13. The Grand Slam pool will remain open and guests can also use the pool at the two other All Star Resorts.

This is what I found. The dates could be flexible. If you have ever had any remodeling done you will understand. :)

I hope you find the Sports to be to your liking and hope to see you there!!

Slightly Goofy

I also couldn't get into Pop this morning, so picked ASSports.

I was given the option of that, or ASMusic, and thought my family would like the Sports theme better.

I was feeling slightly bummed about not getting Pop, but hey, at least I am going to the Dis!!!

:cool1:
