We are considering doing a water park for the first time after many many trips. Ive never looked into them at all. Kids are 14 and 17. Which water park do you Iike better? Are lines generally horrible? Does it cost extra after you get in there to do things like swim with sharks?

Also, I have a fear of heights...we have a water park that is really nice close to home, but the lines are flights and flights of wooden stairs that you can see through leading to the top of the slide. It's torture for me. Is it similar or different here?

Tia!! We'll be there this weekend :jumping1:

I'm a big WDW water park fan, I think they are tons of fun and a great way to relax/cool off. I'll try to address your questions:
  • I like the theming of BB better but like TL as a pure water park a bit more (opinions will vary widely here).
  • With teens I think the nod may go to TL for me, but still probably 50/50 in my book.
  • The wave pool alone is worth going to TL in my opinion... really quite a spectacle to behold.
  • Lines - I like rope dropping the water parks to really maximize the first 1-2 hours, the go chill in the wave pool, lazy river, etc. Lines will build and can be quite high on some attractions. End of the day is also a better time line wise, but you have to watch for storms. A line of afternoon storms could put a big Debbie Downer on your end of day water park plans.
  • Much of both BB and TL are sort of build around/on the side of a hill. Many rides are 'built in' to the terrain so you don't really have the winding flights of stairs like at the water park you mentioned. Some do, but many don't. The two big/tall slides at BB are probably the worst offenders when it comes to a stairs/fear of heights problem. Nothing else really seems that tall to me.
That summary doesn't really do them justice but hope it helps. Have fun!

We love the water parks, and go there often.

I think everything GADisneyDad14 said above is spot on. I completely agree that it's truly 50/50 as to which one I'd pick. They're both fantastic. For thrill seekers, I think I might...just might...go with TL. Mainly because of it's wave pool. You have to see it. The waves are incredibly big, and amazingly fun. It's a zero entry pool of course, so young kids can go in and just go up their ankles and be fine. But for teens, they'll love to go into deeper water and catch a big wave. TL also has Crush N Gusher, which is kinda/sorta a roller coaster water slide, because it has jets of water that push you, even up small hills. But both have large slides, small slides, family tube rides, and lazy rivers. I love BB just as much as TL.

Both have plenty of shaded chairs available, so no worries there. You'll find a great spot to sit.

No, nothing costs extra as far as the rides go. They have gifts and food, but the attractions are included in the price. There is nothing like swimming with the sharks at either park. TL used to have the shark reef, but it is now gone.

Lines go up quickly and then drop quickly. The parks usually open at 10am (not always, so be sure to check schedules). No need to "rope drop" and show up 45 minutes early. Literally being in the park at 9:55am is more than enough time. Drop your stuff (or put it in a locker) and head for the big attractions. For the first hour you are there, the only limit to riding them is how fast you can get back up the stairs. There are stairs...lots of stairs. BB has a ski lift style chair lift, but I recommend avoiding it if you're in a hurry. It's slow and stops very often due to guests. Then from about 11am to 4pm it will be crowded. Long lines for the big ticket slides. That's when you do the lazy river, wave pool, smaller slides, etc... From 5pm or so until closing, the lines will drop very quickly. Also, if an early day t-storm comes through, it's also a good time to go, as it chases people out.

Also, they are currently testing a FP+ style system at BB if you go there. It's not done on MDE. They have tables set up at a few rides. You go there and tell them how many FP+ you need. They give you a wrist band with a bar code and a return time on it. It's a 30 minute window. You return during that time and get to go to the head of the line. They were testing it on 3 rides....DDD, Teamboat Springs (the family tube ride) and Summit Plummet (the big drop slide). Frankly, it's only of value at Summit Plummet. Teamboat doesn't usually get a long line, and DDD the FP+ only brings you to the front of the line to get a tube, you still have to wait to ride...so it helped, but was still a 30 minute wait...better off doing that ride in the first hour of the day or last hour.

You won't regret either one, they're awesome!!!

The wave at typhoon Lagoon knocks you silly. Love it.

The lazy Rivers in both are well landscaped and the reason we go to both each trip.

Does it cost extra after you get in there to do things like swim with sharks?

It did not cost extra to do the Shark Reef (though there was a special tour with SCUBA gear available), but the Shark Reef experience is no more and is now replaced with Miss Adventure Falls, the newest slide. The only other extra I can think of is the surfing lessons, and they are scheduled and take place prior to park hours. Do keep in mind the cost of lockers or cabanas if you want one.

Also, if you are afraid of heights, stay off the top of Mt. Gushmore at Blizzard Beach. Personally, it's my favorite view in all of WDW, but you are up there! You ride a ski-lift to the top, though you can walk it.

Yes. However, if you aren't afraid of heights (you're not standing on a ledge or anything, but it is high up), like BrianL said, it's a phenomenal view. You can see all 4 parks, Disney Springs, and more.
