Tell me about the Plaza Restaurant - MK

We really enjoy The Plaza Restaurant. At first I was hesitant to try it because I like full-service sit-down restaurants, but the great food and excellent location makes this is a place to at try at least once! Here are some pictures of the meals we've had there. (We've always found the food to be of VERY good quality).

We were announced as the "100th Family of the Day at the Plaza Restaurant" and were presented with a certificate and free sundae! LOL

The sandwiches at the Plaza were fairly large and very tasty and the desserts were wonderful! But we didn't have great service and we thought the restaurant itself was pretty small. It was quieter than most of the restaurants we had visited and that was a welcome treat. :)

Great reviews and pics! I can't believe we've never eaten there but we have 4:30 ressies for our December trip.

Appetizers are still offered on the Deluxe Dining Plan... does the Plaza offer appetizers?

Just learned from another Disney board (sssh...don't tell anyone), the menu changed slightly and they no longer have the German Potato Salad. It is your choice of kettle chips, french fries or brocolli slaw. DH is NOT happy--he loves the German Potato Salad and when I told him about the brocolli slaw he almost lost the dinner we just came back from at the local Italian restaurant. :rotfl2:

I remember seeing a yummy pic of a cake that had Blue Icing and sprinkles- but read that it is not on the menu- can anyone who has eaten this please help with my curiosity-???? we are planning to eat lunch here on our last day and i know my ds would love something like that but i have not heard anyone mention this in a while- thanks!

Another vote for the Plaza! Great place to take a break while you can view the castle.

I think of Plaza as a sort of "inbetweener"---it's not the equivalent of most TS locations, but it's a nice step up from a you-lug-it CS meal. If that's the sort of thing you're looking for, it works really well.

We think of it as a nice change of pace---very very casual with simple food, but more calming than the hustle and bustle of, say, Cosmic Ray's.

Great description. We ate there in January. It's nothing special when it comes to variety of menu, but the food is fresh and very tasty. My reuben was probably one of the best I've had in a long time. DH loved the club sandwich too. The homemade potato chips were very good, although a little greasy. The kids meals were excellent and came with a great sundae. You'll pay a little more than CS. We ate a late lunch there, and it was perfect for us. :thumbsup2

We LOVED it. It was a great lunch and a nice change from a trip that we packed full of signature and ethnic restaurants. Lobster and sushi are wonderful, but sometimes you just want a banana split, you know?

I've never been ... but its on my list for this trip!!

I have heard if you sit by the window you can see the parade? True or no...

we have never been either and just wondering if anyone can post pics of the special cake they serve that is not on the menu? I think it is covered in blue icing and sprinkles..just curious if anyone knows about this? we are going in May so just want to be prepared..

thanks!

I know people love this restaurant and on that basis, my DH and I went.. I thought the service was poor, it was just a sandwich and not spectacular and the people sitting beside us at their table were so close we could hear them chewing.. Not my cup of tea, and I would not go back. I would prefer fast food in the parks to this restaurant.. but then again this is my opinion..

I'm with you! I know that your ADR time is not your "guaranteed to be seated at:"time, I still found it unacceptable to be kept waiting 40+ minutes. Our service was very poor, and the food was only "meh" IMO. We were so disappointed with the wait for a table and the service that we asked to speak with a supervisor, who promised that she would look into the matter to see what the problem had been.... and then she disappeared into a black hole, never to be seen again. And don't get me started about the absence of a bathroom! Having to go outside and down the way to a general public bathroom is not my idea of a great TS experience (of course, it really affected *me*, having 2 kids in diapers and in need of changing at different times mid-meal....other people may not be so bothered by the bathroom situation). We won't be back.

Sorry you experienced this. I just wanted to point out your usage of the word "great TS". I wouldn't call this a "great TS" experience - we love it for what it is. A cute and efficient place to rest, people watch and have some yummy food/desserts. Food that costs less then at some CS places. :thumbsup2 People need to keep that in mind - The Plaza is not California Grill or Kona Cafe, it is a small little restaurant and so for what it is, it does a good job. You can eat here with the TIW card (20% off) for less then at some CS places, and so that is just fine with us!

They have great ice cream and milkshakes too! Tiger :)

Oooookay then, allow me to clarify - having to go outside and down the way to a general public bathroom is not my idea of a satisfactory TS experience. And if it had even been "efficient", maybe I would give it a second chance, but spending over an hour waiting to get a so-so sandwich (40+min past ADR to be seated, 20+min to have orders taken and food served) has turned me off of this place. I did not expect it to be Kona or CG, but I did have some hopes for decent food in a reasonable time-frame, neither of which did I experience. Cheers to those who have had better experiences there, just consider me one less person to have to fight over tables with :)

We had an awful experience at The Plaza in January. Our server was very slow and not very good at all. My sandwich came soggy, DH's soup was nasty and our sodas were undrinkable. (Florida water) We will never be returning to this restaurant.

Hi all!

We'll be at the MK for just one day this trip, and I didn't make any ADR's, thinking CS would suffice, but now the Plaza has intriuged me! What are the chances of getting in to eat there without ADR's? BTW, we'll be at MK probably March 3 or 4.

Way back in '98 we ate here and it was the worst food & service we had on our entire trip. My dad was SO ticked that he didn't even leave a tip and he never does that. We chalked the food issues up to eating there pretty late in the evening, I think it was about 8:30 and they were closing at 9:00 but still it was annoying. We weren't even offered refills which is what did my dad in b/c he wanted more coffee. He had to chase our server down to get some.

DH and I ate there for the first time on our last trip and it was WONDERFUL! I had the Strawberry Chicken Salad . . . YUM!! DH had a Reuben that he said was good and we split a Tollhouse Cookie Milkshake that was to die for! This is something I'll plan on for every future trip.
