HI,

This may seem like a weird question..but I was looking at all the "clinical strength" deodorants at walmart..dove, secret, and degree have one. They are about 8 dollars. These are supposedly perscription strength.

I am wondering if they are worth the extra money, and if they really work better than regular deodorant? Is it wet/sticky or dry?

Also..the box says it is best to apply at night before bed?? And that you can even shower the next morning..if you wear this, do you do this??
I would really rather apply it after my morning shower..thinking of trying this out before Disney World.

I don't really have a "problem" with sweating or anything, but you know how it is in Disney in Sept..EVERYONE sweats!

Any insight??

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

We use Certain-Dri. I have no idea how much it costs since a bottle lasts so long. It is an amazing miracle worker! And yes, we put it on at night before going to bed. We started using it something like 4 or 5 times for one week, then weaning down to just once a week. Yes, it's our ritual to put on anti-perspirant just once a week and it seriously works.

i use secret clinical strength and i LOVE it! i put it on whenever i shower, night or day and it works fine. While in disney i would put it on at night after i showered and then again in the morning. DEFINATELY worth the money. (and it lasts much longer than a normal stick does!)

I used Certain-Dri as well and it definitely worked...just don't apply it RIGHT after you shave!! However, I will never use it again as my mother just got diagnosed with breast cancer so I'm doing all I can on my part to hopefully lower MY risk.

Burns like the dickens after you've shaved doesn't it? Sorry about your Mom, my Mom was also diagnosed in Feb. She is in remission now but it was a scary few months.

the thing with clinical strength deoderant is, they are higher in aluminum which has been linked to breast cancer. If you are concerned about sweat stains on you underarms why not try clothing protectors to absorb the sweat? Just a thought. You can still use deoderant to smell nice, just not the antiperspirant kind. Hope you figure out what works best for you.

I use a stick anti-perspirant- a mitchum one which is designed to be a 48 hour one, it's unscented so i use that with a regular perfume/scent as I am quite a sweaty person (and florida in august when you sweat in England is demanding!) it works well and is worth the £ I think.

I prefer to use a stick anti-perspirant rather than a spray because I still breastfeed my youngest and I don't like the randomness of sprays, prefer to know he's not getting it in his mouth!

I really sweat and just started using the Secret clinical strength this year. I was going to get the botox injections if I had to this summer, because I am always so embarrased over sweating so much.
I really like the clinical strength, it really works.
After reading the other post about aluminum and breast cancer, it made me think that I will only use it during the summer now, and use something else through my Canadian winter

I use secret clinical strength. I love it, it seems to work much better than the dove for me. I was also considering botox for underarms. I think the people worried about a little mark on clothes don't sweat like me. I sweat like a 400 lb lumberjack. The secret clinical has really helped but I will put it on night and morning if I'm doing something really sweaty. For me it was so worth the price. I do worry about the breast cancer issue even though that's not 100% proven but I want people to be able to stand near me without being gagged too. Good Luck. I live in the Mississippi Delta so Florida's heat and humidity is nothing compared to home!

Just thought I'd hop back in here and elaborate on my reply- I am a bigtime sweater. I hate it. It's always been something I'm really self-conscious about. So I was thrilled to find that Certain-Dri worked. However, I haven't used an antipersperant since the day my mom was diagnosed- mostly for the aluminum factor, but also because of the parabens. Since then I've used either Crystal or this that a local friend makes. You know, once upon a time I heard that if you STOP using antipersperants, you'll likely sweat less when your pores are free of chemicals. Well, I believe it now. Ever since I stopped and just started using Crystal or the SBB, I haven't had an embarrassingly sweaty day since! And the SBB smells so good. :)

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience. I was VERY surprised, because I've always been skeptical of anything other than REALLY strong antipersperants.

Oh My, I never thought about the cancer thing. I am sorry to hear that..now I am worried.

What I noticed is that the active ingredient in regular deoderant (like Dove or secret) is the same as the clinical strength versions, except more of it..regulat is 14.8%, and clinical strength is 20%.

I have always used regular, degree or Dove. But I was looking at the clinical strength ones, and had a $2 off coupon and thought what the heck, I'll try it. I don't sweat normally, but in Disney, you know how hot it is...I do sweat walking around in the heat all day.

I can't get beyond the fact that it says you can shower after putting it on though..that seems strange?? I shower in the mornings...so if I out it on at night, shower in the morning, I don't have to re-apply?? Just at night?

Thanks

Well it's designed to block to pores, so by putting it on and letting it do it's thing at night you let it "work" overnight and that's why it's supposed to be able to last all day. From what I read (and found myself), sometimes it takes a while of using it before it starts to work like it's intended (like maybe a week or two).

I used to use Certain-Dri but it was so strong that it totally irritated my skin. I would itch like crazy after using it. It worked well to prevent sweating, but I couldn't stop scratching my underarms!

I switched to Secret Clinical, and now Dove Clinical. They work very well. Very well. And they don't bother my skin at all. I have never heard of the link to cancer. I guess I'll check that out, but I don't think I'm going to stop using the clinical strength deodorant. I sweat all the time, even in the winter. I get those big, embarrassing sweat spots under my arms, and I can never wear blouses because of it. The clinical strength formulas allow me to not worry about lifting my arms up!

my son started using this and it works GREAT for him! you couldnt stand to be in a car with him if not......

I use it in the morning after my shower. The next morning in the shower it just feels dry in my armpits... like a barrier. I use soap and it gets rid of that barrier. You'd have to try it to see for yourself. When I first bought it I tried it at night, but would still use it in the morning too - just couldn't get out of that routine. So now I only use it in the morning.

Be careful though, it will start irritating the area after prolonged use. And my doctor told me once, if you block the sweat from coming out of your pores under your arms...your body will compensate and the sweat will come out somewhere else. I sweat really badly too, and used CertainDri for a while...it worked really well but started breaking me out. Oh and CertainDri can be used for sweaty feet...etc too, although I don't have that problem so not really sure on it's effectiveness for that?

I'm intrigued by the thought that you'll sweat less after letting all the deodorant chemicals leave your body though....interesting.

I used the Dove Clinical Strength in July during our Universal Trip. It was fantastic!

I only use it when I go to Florida because I usually wear Tank Tops there and don't want sweat stains on those.

Antiperspirants do not cause breast cancer.

If you have perspiration, you may want to try a prescription one called Drysol. It is much better - you put it on before bed as well. I have used both, and the Drysol is a liquid (dabber, but I put it on a cotton ball and dab). The active ingredient is the same, but the Drysol is much much better!

You do shower it off in the morning, and maybe once or twice a week is enough. Also, I do make sure to not shave right before or after using.

Please, don't read the urban myths about breast cancer and deodorants or antiperspirants. They are such hooey.

I'm intrigued by the thought that you'll sweat less after letting all the deodorant chemicals leave your body though....interesting.

What I read was mostly referring to just what's in the pores, hair follicles, and sweat glands in your armpits. It certainly proved true for me and for several people I know personally, along with where I saw it mentioned (I've also seen it talked about on Mothering.com but haven't really read exactly what they talk about there).

But anymore, in my case at least, I'll gladly give up strong antipersperants, go for the natural, simple deoderants, and change my diet in ways that I can in order to reduce the amount of sweating my body does. The diet part has been more difficult, but I'm getting there. ;)
