Telemarketing - Anybody Know?

The past few nights, we've received several telemarketing calls.
We signed the "do not call list". Calls dropped to practically nothing. Now suddenly the calls are back in full force.

Is this happening to anyone else?
Does anyone have any ideas why?

Don't answer any questions. Ask the company name, address and phone number. Then tell them you are listed on the National Registry of Do Not Call and they are in violation. Tell them you are going to report them and that it is an $11,000 fine every time they call you. The calls will stop.

However, there is a loophole in the law - if they can establish that they have a previous relationship with you, they have the right to call you. So if it is from someone you have actually done business with in the past, they won't get fined. But you can still remind them that you are on the do not call list and that you do not want to be called again and they have to honor that once you state it.

Charities are also exempt, but have to honor your request not to be called.

I work from home and have a fax machine in my home office. I did register this # with the Do Not Call registry. I receive all kinds of junk faxes -- tax tips, cut rate vacation specials, etc. These faxes come at all times of the day and night -- I have even received these faxes at 2 AM. I have no idea who they are coming from, and if I *69 it just says that they are out of my calling area. Not only are they an intrusion, but they use MY paper and toner. I'm going to call the phone co. business office tomorrow to see if there's anything that can be done. I would think these people that send these faxes would fall in the category of telemarketers, right? I can't figure out how to report them if I don't know who "they" are.

What if the company is using a recording and calling? My parents have received several from the same company that says to call them for more info about a credit card. This is becoming very irritating to them. They are also on the Do Not Call list.

They can still call if they are not directly selling something over the phone. If they are setting an appointment for you to meet with someone to see a product, than they can still call. The Do Not Call list really has a lot of loopholes. I think people thought they wouldn't get any telemarketing calls if the signed the Do Not Call list.

On the website, www.donotcall.gov you can report violators. Telemarketers are now required to discose their phone numbers, I believe, so if you have caller ID, it should show up. One place has called me twice since the law took effect and I reported them via the website both times. The name and the phone number were on my ID display.

Also, for any Sprint users out there, They have an optional phone security package that (from what I understand), when they call your number, they have to leave a voice message. After that, they are put on hold for about 2-3 seconds while your phone rings a certain ring and when you answer it, it plays back the recording and asks you if you would like to take the call or not. Very useful I've heard.

I used to never get telemarketing calls. And then I got married and changed my name, but one of my credit cards got the last name wrong. Well then I was getting calls asking for Mrs Wronglastname and I knew that my credit card was selling my name and phone number to lists! I called then and said DO NOT SELL MY NUMBER! It seemed to work.

Moral of the story, even your credit card company will turn on you. May not do much good, but you may want to call them up and ask not to be sold.

I've started getting Telemarketing faxes (about new cheapie stocks). They call at all hours-literalyy...6am...1 AM!!!!!!!
