I just had coffee with a friend and I was telling her about the new fast pass system and all the madness for Anna and Elsa. I told her I managed to get fast passes to meet them on our 60 the day window.
Well she just could NOT get over the fact that my 14 yr old dd wanted to meet them. Honestly she basically sneered "What REALLLLYY??" to me.

Is it that much of a strange thing for a 14 yr old to meet characters?
Anyway even if she feels that way she shouldn't have sneered and made me feel about 2 inches tall.

My dd is almost 15, and she likes to meet with the characters, too. Of course, I'm 45 and love meeting characters so don't let your friend be a downer. Some people just don't get it, and that's okay. Enjoy your trip!

Are you kidding? I'm 45 and still meet characters (with my kids, at least). It's a huge part of the Disney experience! There's no age limit on Disney magic. Who DOESN'T want a picture with Mickey? Sounds like someone's jealous.

When I was 21, I went nuts walking around DL hoping to find Mickey (We did eventually, right at the end of the night!) There are no age limits in Disney!

She asked to see my MDE app so I showed it to her....LOl...She looked totally bemused at all the plans..she has told me several times she cant understand why we want to go on rides we have already ridden in previous yrs. She looked at me like I was cuckoo crazy when she saw all my fastpasses were booked..:rotfl2:

Man, she would be an EX-friend if she took that attitude with me.

I realize not everyone loves WDW, and not everyone understands why some of us love it and go over and over, and that's OK, but there's no need to sneer about it or make you feel 2" tall.

I'm a big grown-up lady and I've had a blast meeting tons of characters on my trips (including A & E in Norway; they were wonderful). I think it's great that your DD still enjoys the Disney magic!

I with you! I once had a co-worker that told me he took his son to Disney World and were there only half a day before they got bored and left. My opinion of him dropped sharply after that conversation! :)

Exactly!...That's what annoyed me...the rudeness. She goes on a cruise every yr with her boys and I would never dream of saying anything negative about it. I prefer Disney but I can also see that her cruise is amazing too...and even if I thought it wasn't I would keep my mouth shut.

Considering the kind of trouble that a lot of 14/15 year olds find themselves in, I would be thrilled if my kids had an outlook on life that included Disney characters.

Your 'friend' obviously does not get Disney and proves the old adage that the dumbest people speak about things they know nothing about.

I have 4 DDs aged 12-17 and when I asked them what their biggest priority for fastpass+ was, ALL 4 said......Anna and Elsa M&G! :)

Nice friend you've got there.

The seniors in my school go to WDW every spring..I've seen PLENTY of photos of them...yes, the boys too..with the characters.

Be happy that you are keeping your 14 year old young and excited to meet characters rather than excited for the newest season of 16 and pregnant

I'm 28 and added an entire day to our trip in October just to meet characters, specifically Peter Pan and Rapunzel. My sister sent me a video message from Peter Pan earlier this week (she's a CM, knew I was having a bad week, and stopped by his M&G one day to get it). I was so excited I maybe squealed out loud. I'm aware it's an actor in green tights, but I choose to believe anyway. Some people get it, some don't - but there's no need to be condensing about it. Forget her, OP, we get you!

My 13 year olds are total Disney nuts. Although, they did not was to "waste" a fastpass on characters (rollercoasters rule the day), they will not wait in line for more that a few minutes either. They like to wander around and see who they run into.

Don't feel 2 inches tall. When someone tells me they don't "get" why we go to WDW over and over I tell them they don't need to "get" it I only need to"get" it. My daughter's are 16 and 21 and still love to meet the characters. A&E are on our fast pass list. The characters are a big part of what makes the parks magical.

If a friend makes you feel 2 inches tall they are not a friend at all. I decided. Lol.
I am 32 and though my kids are small will always like meeting the characters... Have a great time!!!!!!:yay:

don't let your friend get to you, I am going down with my daughter and her best friend and mother, to celebrate her sweet 16(my DD is 17) and A&E FP+ were the first thing we made sure we had for all 4 of us, and we intend to spend the day we get there in HS to enjoy all the Frozen stuff.

I guess what I don't get in comments like the OP's friend made is a complete lace of understanding that everyone is different. And who the heck cares of a 14 year old, or an adult for that matter, enjoys meeting characters?

My DD was 13 on our last trip and still had a ball with the characters. It evolves over time, but she still loves it. In a nod to her new teen status, she started taking character selfies:

But she's funny that way. She also takes selfies with goats:
