Teens meeting characters.

We don't have kids - but after 30+ trips since 1980 probably my 2 favorite WDW pictures are the one of me with Figment and Dreamfinder and of DH with Chip. And I love them because of the silly, joyous expressions on our faces. And we were both North of 30 years old at the time :)

I'm 37 and no kids. My last trip in Dec, I met lots of characters. I don't care at all. I might have felt a little weird while I was in the first line (that was for Rapunzel and Snow) but after that, I didn't care. Everyone is different...as l ok no as you're not hurting yourself or anyone else, who.cares!

My twin boys were 13 when we went last year. One is on the basketball team and extremely serious, so much so I was worried about him. My other is on the track team and is a bit goofy. Then I have a typical 10 yr old. This was our first trip.
I scheduled an ADR at garden grill & all my boys loved taking pics with all the charecters!!!!!!! Then when my Mr. Serious walked through Epcot and saw Duffy alone he ran so fast to give him a hug! I was shocked!!!!! My almost 6 foot tall serious basketball player hugged Duffy for at least 2 minutes. I get teary thinking about this. All my boys enjoyed the interactions with all the charecters and even wanted to wait in line to see daisy and Donald. I never would have imagined this in a million years.
Sooo who the heck cares what anyone says! My photos are in my living room and I look at them all the time. My boys still talk about it and say it was the best time of their life. Love WDW and what it does for people

I'm 19 and my sister is 28 and we always try to catch as many character meets as we can. On our trip in January we went alone on a sisterly bonding trip and did a bunch of character meals. No one looked at us weirdly and the characters didn't treat us any differently. I think I'll be 90 years old and still be excited to meet Cinderella.

I don't think it's weird at all. I was 18 on my family's last trip, and I waited for about 15 minutes in the China pavilion at Epcot to meet Mulan, and it was completely worth it! I'll be 21 on our next trip and plan on meeting characters then too.

I'm 28, and I have FP+ for both Anna and Elsa, and Cinderella and Rapunzel.

They are two of the things that I am most excited about on our itinerary. I don't think it's weird at all that your 14 year old wants to meet them. Good for her :)

On our last trip in early June our 17 year old daughter spent one of her MK days getting pics with characters. We started with a breakfast at CRT. She had a FP for Anna and Elsa and was first in line for Peter Pan:thumbsup2

She also got in line for Merida, Tinkerbell and Gaston...he was fabulous and there were ALOT of adults in his line ;)

All over the parks we saw lots of teens and adults inline to get pics with the characters! Heck we even saw some olders teens or young 20 somethings dressed like princesses to get their pics :)

Your DD will definitely not feel out of place...here are a few of our pics :)

I'm 18 and if I don't meet Anna and Elsa when we go to WDW later this month I will be infuriated. I probably enjoy the characters more now than I did when I was little. I was always scared of them when I was little.

I took my friends 18 yr old son to DLP with us. He's well over 6 feet tall and built like a builder (*** he is one lol) Well, when he saw Goofy, you'd have thought it was Beyonce! He ran up to him and hugged him like there was no tomorrow. The grin on his face was amazing. If I know how to add photos I'd add one.

I'm 52........for our Sept 2014 trip we have 3 Character Breakfasts scheduled. All planned with "My Dog" Goofy in mind :) We plan on meeting Tink and Mickey in MK. We're also looking forward to getting photos with The Villians and The Seven Dwarves during our MNSSHP event!

Those who frown on teens (and for that matter.....adults) who enjoy meeting the characters just don't have the love of Disney folks like us do. Can't change them but DO NOT let them change your kids or YOU!!

Oh yeah, DH and I (no kids) are doing 4 character meals over 7 days... (CRT, Crystal Palace, Akerhus and Tusker House) as it's a great way for me to meet characters without DH having to line up! :D

It has been said in several PP...to each their own! I love Disney, I want to meet the characters, dress in matching shirts, and just be a big kid! My husband enjoys Disney but isn't crazy like me! If your teen still has that enjoyment, enjoy and ignore the non Disney fanatics!

On our December trip, I'll be 21 and my boyfriend 26. He already knows our first FP priority is A&E and we have a crystal palace breakfast booked.

And when we went spring break 2013, I was 19 and the main goal that trip was Gaston. I met him three different days.

Disney and meeting characters is also something my mom and I do, it's our thing. Be glad your daughter enjoys it, and have fun!

My dd is almost 15, and she likes to meet with the characters, too. Of course, I'm 45 and love meeting characters so don't let your friend be a downer. Some people just don't get it, and that's okay. Enjoy your trip!

Are you kidding? I'm 45 and still meet characters (with my kids, at least). It's a huge part of the Disney experience! There's no age limit on Disney magic. Who DOESN'T want a picture with Mickey? Sounds like someone's jealous.

Another 45 year old here that loves the characters!

Meeting Anna & Elsa was top priority for my 17 year old daughter!!

Same for my 17 year old! We will be there in 3 weeks and that was her #1 request for fastpass! As a child, she really didn't like that characters, and as a preteen, she was much more interested in rides. She's only started enjoying the characters in the last couple of years.

OP, I've come to the realization that it is perfectly ok to cut consistently negative people out of your life, especially ones that belittle you.

Here's a quick and easy line from Snow White you can use when non-believers have this type of reaction - "You're never too old to be young". pixiedust:

I've seen lots of teens meeting character, and I LOVE meeting characters and I'm 25, same with my Mom, and she's 64! Disney is for kids of all ages, all parts of it, and you choose which parts you like. Boo to that person sneering at you, uncalled for!

I don't think it's weird at all. My dd16 could spend the whole trip meeting characters and not ride a single and leave very happy. I knew she liked them but I didn't realize how much until our last trip where she booked all of our adrs because it was her birthday. When I looked at what she had booked I was amazed. Nearly every character meal offered by Disney we had reservations for. She booked Cinderella's Royal Table, Ohana Breakfast, 1900 Park Fare Breakfast and Dinner, Crystal Palace, Hollywood & Vine Breakfast, Garden Grill, Akershus, and Chef Mickey's. Her goals for the next trip are to meet Anna, Elsa, Buzz Lightyear ,Woody & Jessie. Your friend has either never been to Disney or like others have said just doesn't "get it"

I just had coffee with a friend and I was telling her about the new fast pass system and all the madness for Anna and Elsa. I told her I managed to get fast passes to meet them on our 60 the day window.
Well she just could NOT get over the fact that my 14 yr old dd wanted to meet them. Honestly she basically sneered "What REALLLLYY??" to me.

Is it that much of a strange thing for a 14 yr old to meet characters?
Anyway even if she feels that way she shouldn't have sneered and made me feel about 2 inches tall.

I wish my DD14 wanted to meet them. When I was going to book our FP+ for them, she didn't want to so I booked it just for me.

She did have fun meeting with Gaston but that was after I bribed her to stand in the line with me. She was so shy to meet him and Gaston was so Gaston that it was hilarious.
She used to love to meet the characters but now that she is a teen, she just isn't interested.

It always makes my friends laugh that I love to meet the characters and I'm a 50 year old woman who goes to Disney World solo alot. I think it's great when teens want to meet the characters.

I hope you see that you and your daughter are in good company. :wave2: I am really excited about meeting Mary Poppins next fall with my daughter. We both love Mary Poppins! pixiedust:
