Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

:rotfl: we hadn't even thought of that one! We're still stuck on the Kinks. "Met her in a club down in north SoHo where they drink champaign that tastes just like cherry cola...L O L A...Lola"

and see, when we got our newest kitten back in November, we were considering Lola because of the song from Damn Yankees: whatever Lola wants, Lola gets. She isn't named Lola, but she still gets whatever the heck she wants.

A bit late to the party, but hope your birthday is extra special Debra.:bday:party::bday:
As for my activities I enjoy biking, dancing:tiptoe: (latest is Zumba and I can't wait to start the class), swimming, and Wii (especially with my grandson, Zac).
Hope everyone's Monday was great.:goodvibes

I am even later to the party but I just got home from a very long day in retail and a short day at the gym.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEBRA!!!!!!!!!!!! Was that loud enough?? Seriously though, you are a great friend and I hope that you have had an awesome day.

X-Training is the topic if I read it right. I do all forms of cross training. I strength train practically everyday working one bodypart per day. Except when I do arms and then I do those together to get a little extra pump. As far as cardio goes, I run, walk, bike, hike and anything that I can do that may get the heart rate up a little bit. I don't swim because unfortunately, I have a phobia with water above my head but that is another story.

Hope everyone is having a great night and an incredible week!!

Bryan

Happy Birthday Debra!! :wizard:

For Xtraining, I do weights/strength training two times a week, sometimes make it to pilates and was doing yoga once a week for awhile, but tweaked my neck in one of those alternate head stand positions and haven't made it back. I like the cycle classes, but can never seem to make it to the gym in time to get a bike (those classes are so popular!). And swimming is always a good stand by whenever something hurts or I just want a mellower activity. I mostly do cross training when I'm not keeping up on my running. When my running is going well, it's just that and the strength training twice a week.

Debra, My major is political science and minor in sociology not at all related to athletics. (Except I have written a couple of papers on sociology of sports).

Coco, I just noticed the picture in your siggy. So jealous of you getting to meet Laura Wilkinson! Is there a story behind it?

Connie, My friend does bellydancing and loves it too! She says it's been the best thing for her body image.

Best,
Jennifer

Jennifer - There is a story behind my meeting Laura Wilkinson and it was just recently. See back to post #628 on page 42 of this thread for the details. She seems to be a genuinely wonderful person. Since then some other friends of mine have told me stories of meeting her at the local athletic center where their children were taking swimming, diving or gymnastics lessons, and she was always friendly and had time to stop to talk or have a photo taken. She has a gold medal heart to go with the rest of her collection.

Debra - It's still not too late to take up swimming, you seem to enjoy so many other activities that I would think you would love the freedom of moving through water. I'm really not all that good (or graceful) at it, but I do enjoy swimming. It doesn't hurt that it's easier on the body than running and exercises a completely different group of muscles.

Bryan - I understand phobias, water can be very scary if you're comfortable with it--and I have enough phobias of my own (heights, which I avoid; public speaking, which I overcome when needed; snakes, such as Indiana Jones). It sure seems like you do so many varied activities that you wouldn't have time for swimming anyway.

Have a good day, all!!!

Look like you all had fun here after I signed off for the day. So much so that it was really slow today. Tell me the truth, you all have hangovers from celebrating my birthday! :rotfl: Once again, thank you for all your birthday wishes. I am truly flattered. :worship:

A couple of shout-outs!

Mel: Lola is gorgeous, whether you think of her as a show dog, a Kinky girl, or a Yankee!

Richard: Someday I'll make an effort to learn to swim, I'm sure. I don't quite have a phobia like Bryan, but I am suspicious of the wisdom of having water above my head. That said, I do shower regularly. :lmao:

Just some business here tonight. We've heard from almost all the cousins--except Kathy, Kerry, and Marcy. I'm putting those cousins on inactive reserve until I hear from them. I know Kathy is going to be at CMM with Jeanne, so I hope she's just too busy to post. :sad1: This information will go on the Team Roster thread so as we get new WISHers interested in joining teams we can distribute them evenly.

I'd talk more, but I'm a little behind schedule today. I'll be back tomorrow or Thursday! :goodvibes

Hey Everyone! It's mixer time!!!!!

We are having a mixer! Jack has once again shown up with an idea. Tomorrow we ALL want to know what your very favorite movie is. I don't mean just a movie you like! I mean the ONE movie that you would choose to have on a deserted island. Just you and the movie!!!

And as long as we are talking movies, what goes better with a movie than the perfect snack??? Tell us about your movie snack. Maybe you do something that is just so kewl that the rest of us need to try it too!!!!

So, choose your movies well!! You are stuck with 'em until you are rescued!!!!

Richard: Someday I'll make an effort to learn to swim, I'm sure. I don't quite have a phobia like Bryan, but I am suspicious of the wisdom of having water above my head. That said, I do shower regularly. :lmao:

Think of it more as you choosing to put your head under the water ;), plus, even Laura Wilkinson was once afraid to jump off the high platforms, and who can really agree with the idea of jumping off a 4 story building into a pool; but I am glad to know you find a suitable way to bathe, as (I assume) DOOD is also glad of that .

...and, Debra, I am finally getting back into Ender in Exile as of yesterday.

Hi Cousins! I thought I'd pop in here to apologize for not being present for the mixer yesterday. I have no acceptable excuse really. I read all XT ideas and like most of them, well most b/c I've not tried belly dancing; the salsa needs lots of work for me; we have no rowing machines in our gym; Maura's list should be famous! Great ideas.

Good Morning, Cousins!

I did 3 mi before work yesterday, but never made it on the bike. I also didn't make it on the TM this morning, so we'll see how tired I am when I get home. Work was just nuts yesterday. I literally returned from one meeting (which I had left early), and barely had time for a bathroom break before leaving for the next one. :scared1: Mind you, I am very pleased to be employed and hope to continue to do so ::yes::

Yesterday I decided to give myself a break -- a real break for me. DS doesn't have school Thurs. afternoon or Friday, and I took the entire time off. Yes, I'm going to have 3.5 days to get myself in order. I'm really looking forward to it. I feel a bit guilty because I have a huge project due next Friday, but no one has given me anything to edit yet anyway, and I know I won't get anything else before Monday. I've already written most of what I'm going to, and today I'm going to get all the documents ready I need to have signed.

I'm watching a webcast this afternoon, which means I should have some DIS time :rolleyes1 Honestly, when the Federal govt. speaks, they take an hour to say what they could in 15 minutes.

I'm definitely going to try to make it over to the Mixer, that sounds like fun!

Everyone have an awesome day!
Maria :upsidedow

Anyone else not getting their thread subscriptions notices emailed to them anymore? :confused3

Richard: DOOD is very relieved when I remember to bathe, particularly after I work out. Maybe I should just dive into--hah!--swimming and kill two birds with one stone? (Poor, innocent birdies. Wonder if they'd make a good pie?)

Lily: See, I think Kirby gives you some great XT. Not just walking, but exploring your surroundings. :thumbsup2 I need to borrow someone's dog for a day.

Maria: Congratulations on taking some much-needed break between projects. Your work has been very hectic recently and, while I know you're grateful to be employed, you do deserve a little respite. No guilt allowed, either, as that interferes with the effectiveness of the time off. :upsidedow And, of course, you know I think DIS time is a relaxing break, all the better if it helps a webcast go by quicker.

Good news department:I just heard from Kathy. She's been a little busy--LTO--but says she'll be back to posting next week. That's good news, because we all know that we need someone to keep Jeanne in line at CMM. Left to her own devices, that wild cougar would would be drinking cocktails on the course and inviting strange men to help her set a whole 'nother kind of PR. :rotfl:

Ack - I thought I posted a post the other day during the mixer, but of course, it's not there, so I think it got eaten by a Safari freeze or something. Darn it.

I don't have any thrilling XT anyhow, but I did say that "chasing hotties" was my favorite "suggested" XT for the challenge.

And Debra - I actually kind of covet your race photos. The ones I've seen, you always seem to be having fun and/or posing in some cute way that I never think of during a race. I am planning future race poses even now....:thumbsup2 <-- that one is just getting a little old. ;)

I'm back from takling a lunch-time swim (800 yards in 20:48) at a not so fast speed, but the occasional lunch-time exercise break does me a world of good some days. Now I'm chowing down lunch while DISing before going back to work. I have an impoirtant 2 o'clock meeting on a construction project, then a follow-up meeting with my engineer on a couple of other ongoing projects......

Maria - I know what you mean about those back to back meetings, but rest assured that if you are in one of my meetings, I will let you take that bathroom break. Enjoy your short time off, I know you need it. I am also glad to be employed at this time, working in the water supply gives me a little cushion from the rest of the world, and nobody wants to get me started on the government wasting my (or your) time!!

Debra - I can't believe you used the words swimming and kill in the same sentence! (Try roasting the birds, it'll be a healthier choice. Did you know that penguin tastes like chicken, or that the zoo frowns on you bringing your grill in with you?).
My own DW (would that be DOOR?? not quite the same thing is it?), cetainly isn't shy about letting me know that I need to shower after working out.

Corrina - Now, I'll be waiting for some of your "practiced" poses to pop up in the future. (Hint - Remember to tuck in your shirt before doing a handstand!)

Anyway, now it's back to work...

Good one, Richard! The day I can do a handstand during a race.....I don't think it's possible. Anyhow, if I have a water bottle, that should keep my shirt in place, but then the water bottle would fall out! I'm going to have to think more about this.....

A lunchtime swim sounds so hardcore and soothing at the same time.

Good evening 'Ohana cousins. Just dropping by to let you know that Nancy gave me a good report yesterday!!! Her doctor's are so happy with her progress.....I knew she would do well!

I usually dedicate my 1/2 marathons to friends and family, and make it like a prayer run. At each mile marker I would say a little prayer for a chosen person in my life. My last 1/2 marathon was done for Nancy.

On today's run, I needed a little boost and received it with the song "I Run for Life" by Melissa Etheridge. So, as this song reminds me of Nancy, I ran for Nancy today. The following is the lyrics of the song.

Melissa Etheridge)

It's been years since they told her about it
The darkness her body possessed
And the scars are still there in the mirror
Everyday that she gets herself dressed
Though the pain is miles and miles behind her
And the fear is now a docile beast
If you ask her why she is still running
She'll tell you it makes her complete

[Chorus:]
I run for hope
I run to feel
I run for the truth
For all that is real
I run for your mother, your sister, your wife
I run for you and me, my friend
I run for life

It's a blur since they told me about it
How the darkness had taken its toll
And they cut into my skin and they cut into my body
But they will never get a piece of my soul
And now I'm still learning the lesson
To awake when I hear the call
And if you ask me why I am still running
I'll tell you I run for us all

[Chorus:]
I run for hope
I run to feel
I run for the truth
For all that is real
I run for your mother your sister your wife
I run for you and me my friend
I run for life

And someday if they tell you about it
If the darkness knocks on your door
Remember her remember me
We will be running as we have before
Running for answers
Running for more

I run for hope
I run to feel
I run for the truth
For all that is real
I run for your mother, your sister, your wife
I run for you and me my friend
I run for hope
I run to feel
I run for the truth
For all that is real
I run for your mother your sister, your daughter, your wife
For you and me my friend
I run for life
Ohohohoh

I run for your mother your sister your wife
I run for you and me my friend
I run for life

So, in that spirit, I ran my own PR for 5 miles. I am donating my time and miles to Nancy, as I ran for her today.

5 miles
53:37

Happy Easter.

Beth
