Thanks, everyone, for your birthday wishes. At this time last year, I was at the Poly enjoying my 40th. This year, I'm in rainy Pgh, making jambalya and DISsing. (Guess I have to wait at least until my 42nd to claim that I deserve a yearly WDW birthday trip.

) So if I can't be at Disney, I'm delighted to be with my WISH friends.
Corinna: I love that picture of you in the 5k. You do look happy and you're so photogenic.

I always look like I'm about to die or to kill the photographer. Crossing my fingers on the cultures!
Maria: I didn't even know you were having knee pain.

No wonder you've been struggling a bit. I'm so glad slowing down has helped you continue to train. Er, consistency.

(And you do know you don't HAVE to post a goal, right? I'm just a nag at heart.) And a big woo hoo on the loss!

It's a 3 smiley post!
I'm so glad you've got the workplace yoga. I see as it a gateway class into a gym and the elliptical, the machine that I both love and love to hate. And 80s aerobics classes here. With a leotard, tights, and big hair, as I've confessed to before.

I drew the line at wearing eye liner and lip gloss while working out, though.
Denny: Maria's post reminds me. We absolutely have to have a group chat about Lost as the season ends.
Mel, catch up with the series!
JenB: OMG, I can so see you and DH rocking out to Guitar Hero! I just see you two as this really musical couple who (and this isn't meant to be derogatory) embrace their inner rock stars!
Richard: I've never understood crawfish, but I was raised in the north and have been a veggie most my adult life. But I think the idea of creating this running community, post-race, via a healthy (ier?) food is just great! And dude! (Not to be confused with DOOD

) When did you post your link to your blog? How have I missed it?

I love new reading material, and yours is so interesting. (Plus, the title just say it all.) Oh, and Soylent Green. I thought I was the only person here who knows that film!
I've always imagined you triathletes--yes, you are one, even if your heart is with running--as triple threats when it comes to XT. And weight-training on top of that. No wonder you don't have time for a yoga class.
Dave: Ah, your pool sprints. You've talked about these before, especially going into last season's racewalk training. They serve you well and have allowed you to both rehab and get faster. Great idea!
Connie: A special PD to you. I just read Hakuna Matata's thread, briefly, and will try to get over there to say hi. Just PM me if there's anything I can do.

Those terms you use to describe your XT: feeling sexy and svelte, etc.? You'd make an excellent salesperson. And salsa falling just made me laugh!
Jennifer: Wait, wait, wait. I didn't know you had a Dance for Musical Theater class? I knew about Zumba and Pilates, and that you took a ton of exercises classes. And that I want your core strength, too. But the dance class? Wow, sounds like fun! What's your major?
Maura: I think we both deserve scotch. I might even take it with a splash today.

Your XT list:
As for XT, if I'm not....
-jumping to conclusions
-pitching fits
-driving people crazy
-flying off the handle
-jogging my memory
-hopping mad
-kicking back-throwing my weight around
Hilarious! That's pretty much my work life (and my personal life, if I admit to it.)
And your tri training is going well, right? I hope, oh how I hope.
My response to the mixer question:
My XT interests tend to go in cycles, depending on what I'm attempting to accomplish.
- Right now, I'm focused on weight-loss, so I do a lot of elliptical. It's sort of my go-to exercise for burning a lot of calories relatively quickly and keeping my HR up. (It's also the way I lost 50 pounds a few years ago, so I tend to return to it when some of those nasty pounds track me down.) I tend to add elliptical training to another workout, like after a TM run or before weights. I'm working on liking the weight training, and know I need to do more of it.
- I've also become a big fan of Pilates. When I stick with it, I become more flexible and my core gets stronger. And I do dream of the flat tummy.
- Strangely enough, I love the rowing machine. Maybe it's because there's never a wait for them at the gym. But during the summer I also like canoeing, so maybe there's a connection there. During the summer, though, the rowing machine will fall to the wayside because I hope to be in the canoe. With a picnic basket and a bottle of wine.
- It's been a long time for either of these, but I keep meaning to return to yoga and/or tai chi. I like the illusion they give me that I can be graceful, plus the mental concentration.
- And what would I really like to do someday is learn how to swim. Yep, that's one of my dirty secrets. I can't swim, and so I both admire and envy all you who do.
As for me, personally: Yes, my b-day today and I really do appreciate all your acknowledgments! Doing nothing special, though, until DOOD's birthday on the 23rd. Just a busy schedule right now. On the upside, DOOD got me a couple of cool little gifts: He renewed my Pittsburgh Filmmakers screenie subscription (more movies, discounted cost!) and got me a gift membership to
D23. I was all excited there, because I thought he was hinting we'd go to DL for the September Expo. Apparently, though, he was unaware of that perk. So now I need to inform him of what precisely D23 is that it's worth the membership fee. Would've been cheaper to get me that Wii....
