Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

Helllooo Team 'Ohana! Just popping by to see what's going on... The last song to make me laugh was that video spoof done by Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg. I think if I post the name it will get starred out. Also when I hear Take on Me, I always think of that Family Guy episode where Chris gets pulled into the milk fridge. The song I have in my head right now is Jai Ho, I think I've already heard it about 4 times on different radio stations this morning :)

Thought I would stop by again and bring a drink...

Mimosas...

and maybe some desert for later...

Do you see a theme?? Orange juice, Key Lime Pie!!! All good things from the Sunny State of FLORIDA!!!

Thanks everyone for joining the party! Suzann's made me thirsty! I've finished Corinna's Blue Hawaiian--and listened to "Burning Love" while doing it--and and am starting on one of these:

martini-1.jpg

Remember, Lynn, it's always 5 o'clock somewhere! Jeanne: I like your song--better than I actually like cordials, truly. I'm with you on the Irish whiskey, too, as we all know! UGA and Jack, pull up a chair and enjoy a drink of your choice with us!

Maria: I had no idea you were such a head-banger. And yeah, like I believe the story is about some random "cool mom" and her daughter and not you. :rolleyes1 Then again, Erica, you're such the cool mom for teaching your DS all-occasion language (it's what I use in all occasions, anyway)! I do have to say that your DS's logic is impeccable. Horses singing makes sense, especially since they're also wild things. Brilliant!

Like Corrina, I love the Mondegreens, although I keep forgetting that's what they're called. Corrina, Funny or Die rocks--and the literal version of "Take on Me?" Band montage!! (Syko, I saw a-ha in concert, too. Thought it was a good investment at the time!)

About Mondegreens:
Allyson, now I'm hungry for some bacon cakes. Sure, taunt the vegetarian!
Donna: I do the same thing with "Circle of Life" from The Lion King. The chorus sounds like "pink pajama, pink pajama bottoms" to me. So that's how I sing it!
Julie: I used to love Squeeze. Now all I can think is about lettuce abuse. Oh, you've got an evil mind, you do, when it comes to working with DOOD's guilt. As long as it works in my favor--say, helping me convince DOOD to invest in DVC--I'm happy. Otherwise, you scare me. :scared1: :rotfl2:

Beth: OMG, how perfect for the Rocky song to come on as you're finishing. I would have laughed/cried at the moment. :thumbsup2 I have it on all my running playlists, just in case.

Marci: I really like Jazon Mraz when I'm in the right mood. Gnomes? See, I can pretty much figure we wouldn't have learned that about you otherwise. Do your gnomes travel like the guy in the ads?

Mike: What, you mean those songs aren't classics? I'll see your Hooters and raise you "I'm So Beautiful" by Divine. Or "Tokyo Rose" by Idle Eyes. Gosh, I love/hate YouTube for confirming my memories.

Gretchen: It's always 42 in our household too, but who is this Mr. Adams of whom Mike speaks? :confused3 :rotfl2: Loved your story and bet you have a lot of good ones from your teaching years. (I wish I knew the song...) Oh, and good luck on your upcoming 5K!

Tracey: No ice cream today--snow flurries are substituting for the DQ kind. I do crave it, though. I'll have to substitute some Key Lime Pie--which I also love! I love marching band choreography to pop songs--so intense. Have you seen the UCF Marching Band/Pac Man video?

Allie: I can't think of anything more cringe-inducing humorous than puberty videos. :rotfl:

Vicky: I love Family Guy parodies. How about the "Bird is the Word." Most annoying episode, ever, but redeemed by Brian and Stewie's disposal of the record.

JenB: Score one for Weird Al! I have a friend who practically follows him around during the summer when his work schedule allows. Oh, and I thought of you when I was considering my prompt. One of the songs that regularly makes me laugh--though I haven't heard it since seeing Mama Mia! is Abba's "Take a Chance on Me." That's because I always think of the Muppet version!

Songs that make me laugh. Oh, tons. As I said earlier, all my early musical taste comes from the Muppets. Have you all seen Alice Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare" or School's Out? Elton John's "Crocodile Rock", Loretta Swit's rendition of "I Feel the Earth Move," and "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." And of course, "Mahna Mahna."

I still have to come up with song I last laughed out loud when I heard it. I laughed at the Oscar medleys last night, but I'm not sure that counts. And I laugh at myself when "Super Freak" comes on my iPod, because I've finally admitted it's part of my internal soundtrack. You know, those songs that make you strut just a little bit when you think no one's looking. Yeah. "Super Freak." Now YOU all should be laughing--at me.

Hey Ohana!

I'm with Beth- I was running in a 10k on Saturday trying to be all "serious" runner when my newly downloaded Rocky came on my iPod. I almost tripped over my own feet snorting over what a dork I am. Then I had to look around to make sure no one saw me stumbling. I think I was wheezing enough that no one could hear it...

Pink's "So What" is another fun one in my house. Harry who will be 3 in April, sings it as loud as he can. He basically just screams the last word of every line, but instead of "I'm going to take my money" he says something about "taking his mommy." Then he screams "So What- I'm Rockstar!" Crazy.

And can I just add I must download Super Freak now?!

ALOHA TEAM OHANA!!!

One of Walt's Warriors dropping in to say hello!!! It's nice to visit once in a while! haha

Let's see... I believe the question we were suggested was song that made us laugh- i'm pretty sure what makes me laugh now is "I'm Still a Guy" by Brad Paisley. He's just too funny.
princess: Kat

Marci: I really like Jazon Mraz when I'm in the right mood. Gnomes? See, I can pretty much figure we wouldn't have learned that about you otherwise. Do your gnomes travel like the guy in the ads?

I do have shirt that says chilling with my gnomes with 3 gnomes on it. That shirt is my traveling gnomes. :rotfl:

I love Weird Al. My favorites are White & Nerdy and Your Pitiful.

Hey team 'ohana

I was loving all the drinks (including the virgin ones) but then it got stepped up a gear with the introduction of cleverly themed desserts! Hmm i can't wait to get over there and snaffle up some american food!

Song wise I'm a Believer by Smash Mouth always makes me smile (think shrek) but the full blown laugh tends to come with Sex On Fire by Kings of Leon. I've given my boyfriend the task of coming up with 5 songs that i can put on my ipod when i run 1/2 and full marathons so i can think of him. He won't be there so it was all i could think of to show him he'll be in my thoughts! Anyone else do this? I have a friend who asks lots of people for their song lists and thinks about them during their song. She once missed a toilet break in a marathon because she 'couldn't take' our colleague mike to the toilet with her!!! :rotfl:

Thanks for the mixer guys

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to mix and mingle in the mixer.

DKP- I think this is such a great idea. Thanks for the invite. Now I just WISH I had something funny or clever to say.

Hi all Joining the party (late) from the Goofs.

Great....42?......Now I am going to have "so long, and thanks for all the fish..." stuck in my head for hours.

No specific funny songs for me, although it does remind me that it's been months now since CBC Radio 2 changed their musical line up. No more Tom Allen in the morning cracking jokes about classical music (yes, it can be done) or Jurgen Gothe in the pm. Jurgen played eclectic music and thrown in with classical, jazz, modern Canadian music were the occasional songs like "Racoons", or "Labels on Fruit" or even one about the Accountant and his pencil (you had to hear it,...it was funny in a droll kind of way.)

Anyway, pour the frozen margaritas! Hey, I still have some margarita mix in the fridge.

Maura

Liz: I missed you, somehow, on my first post. Great to have someone else who understands the meaning of life. I'm just going to go around saying 42 to WISHers next time we meet. Of course, air guitar. We all do it, at least those of us who don't yet own Guitar Here.

Jen in GA: I love, love, love your story about running, or should I say stumbling, into glory to the tune of "Rocky." Rocky--Rock star. Runs in the family. (Plus, it's so cool DS listens to Pink.) Oh, and you must download "Superfreak." It'll give you swagger and a smile. Or "Staying Alive." I also imagine I'm a "Reservoir Dog" whenever I hear "Little Green Bag." It doesn't make me laugh, but I sure do smile.

Kat: Hello, Kat, my C25K Buddy! I'd never heard that song--:thumbsup2--and am always on the lookout for new coolness.

Marci: So, instead of wearing your heart on your sleeve you wear your gnomes on your.....shirts. And another Weird Al lover. Wow! I'm such a geek I love "Yoda."

Kate: That's such a great idea for playlists and keeping your BF involved, and letting him know you're thinking of him. And I think it would be motivating. And your friend really got into the whole "you're with me on the course." That's some close friendships. :rotfl2:

Dave: Your presence is always a mood-lifter, with or without any added commentary. Say, didn't you recently get a new cat. So I'll just think of "Stray Cat Strut" in your honor. (Why shouldn't I share my bad musical taste with everyone?)

Maura: Tom Allen's show sounded positively delightful. I need to check out CBC Radio 2, and you've now given me a better sense of your droll sense of humor. Much appreciated. And remember, Don't Panic!

Well, it may just be time for the evening mixer, the happy hour crowd...
Time for some more drinks? ;)

Did someone ask for margaritas?

Dewar's anyone? (It's slipping off the table and into my hand...)

Sorry but I don't know your boyfriend, don't think my wife would like me listening to music that reminds me of your boyfriend ..... Only kidding I shouldn't drink when I go to these mixers :lmao:

For anyone who has missed this, Take On Me, The Literal Version cracks me up every SINGLE time.

That is hilarious -- just watched it, and my kids came in to see what was so funny. I love 80s music.

A song that always makes me laugh is Baby Got Back by Sir Mix A Lot. Good one for girls who have a little junk in the trunk. I have that one on my Ipod, and it never fails to give me a little pep in my step while running! The lyrics are dirty, though, and one time my boys were playing music from our ITunes library while they had friends over. This song started playing while I was in the room, and they just looked at me like, "MOM....." Very embarrassing!

Kids and I always get a laugh out of Weird Al. Especially White and Nerdy and the Saga Begins. Just wanted to say Hi to everyone and any Rabbits from last year I miss Ya.:thumbsup2 Rich

Aloha, Ohana!!

Betsy here from the Triple D's....oh, yeah, and from the triathlon thread.

I'll have that pretty drink that Suzann posted. Suzann...I'll hold yours for you while you're swimming! ;)

Nice to see all the fun and games in here. I don't remember a song that makes me laugh...at least not recently. Though I do laugh a lot...so...hmmm....:confused3 I do have some of the old Steve Martin stuff on my Ipod, so I get a giggle esp. when "Cruel Shoes" comes on.
But I don't listen to my ipod that frequently...more often when I travel, esp. if I'm stuck running on the dreadmill. ugh.:sad2:

DKP....I can never keep up with people like you do! You're amazing!

Richard
....I got a chuckle from your RR from Austin...talking about the hills...then I saw you were from Houston. No wonder. Yeah, it's a hilly race, but not THAT hilly! ;) I would have come out to watch, but I was at WDW that weekend.

So...I'm heading back to finish the work day...y'all pop into the DDD thread from time to time if you like! And if any of my peeps are over here and haven't posted their hours/miles yet....get over there and do it! :goodvibes

DKP, thanks for the invite -- and for being a fellow geek that knows that 42 is the answer. Seems like there's a few of us around these parts. Maybe the WISH Team should someday host a 42-mile ultra? Thought you'd appreciate knowing that "Superfreak" is part of my Running Mix on my iPod. Love that song!

Other iPod Running Mix faves that always make me laugh are "Things That Make You Go Hmmm," "Brick House," and "Shake Your Groove Thing." And the one that gave me a much-needed boost at the very end of my very first race was a song called "Time to Go Home" from Jimmy Buffett's musical "Don't Stop the Carnival." Much like the story of the Rocky theme coming on near the Art Museum, the timing was just perfect, and the song will forever remind me of that first race day.

Reading some of the stories about kids' (and DHs') mixed-up lyrics reminds me of when the Disney film "American Legends" came out on DVD. DD was 4 or so and would sing along, at the top of her lungs, "John Henry... John Henry... John Henry had some mighty pants." Then there's my college roommate's friend who thought "Groove is in the Heart" was really "Grover's in the Hall."

On that note, I gotta get back to my stressful day at work. Thanks for the invite to the party. I really needed it today!
-Kim

Happy Monday Ohanaians!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the mixer invite!!!

Hmmmmmmm. Songs that make me laugh. Let's see. Nope. Not that one. Yeah, then there is...................... Nah. But then...............

Well. Heck. Can't think of one right now.

Ok. Well. There IS "The Ballad of Sir Robin" from Monty Python & the Holy Grail.

I am having a mild case of "posting block" right now.

Can we change the question??

Kate: I love the idea of getting song suggestions from friends to help think of them on the course-- I may just have to do that.

I just wanted to go on record as another one who knows the answer to the meaning of life is 42 (and I always travel with a towel...)

The recent Weird Al thing actually started for me with the song Yoda. DD needed something that started with the letter "Y" for show and tell. I thought of Yoda and started singing the Weird Al song-- she asked what the song was so I went to youtube and showed her a video. This of course led to watching lots of Youtube videos of Weird Al stuff which is were I found the song. The video had pictures of the random stuff he was buying on ebay from vintage lunchboxes to a Dukes of Hazzard ash tray-- I couldn't help but laugh :lmao:

Debra: The Muppets version of almost any song is generally perfect!! I am a huge Henson fan and actually did my long run last night watching special features on the Fraggle Rock collection.

And for those of us who are relaxing in a more civilized fashion we have tea and coffee:

latte-grande.jpg

Got any decaf? This is my fifth day with NO CAFFEINE :scared1: :scared1:

Songs that make me laugh..."I like big butts and I cannot lie" mostly because of the Friends episode...the Macarena...on our honeymoon cruise, I got pulled up out of the audience at one of the shows to do it in front of the entire ship...Time Warp (reminds me of misspent youth)...

Still trying to think of my soundtrack song :cool2:

And for the record...three half marathons in three months was a bad idea ::yes:: Y'all are in charge of reminding me of that next time I start randomly registering for races.

Thanks for the invitation. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I'm in the midst of potty training my youngest. When he first had success I would sing and dance my own little song of "Timmy pee-pees on the potty" to a congo melody (well sort of) and now that he's having alot of success he does his own song and dance and it never fails to make me giggle. When I'm running, Honky Tonk Badonka Donk gets me laughing everytime! There are some avid readers over here, right? Has anyone read The Host by Stephanie Meyer? I loved the Twilight series and am wondering if this one is as good. Have a great night all, it was so nice of you to include all of the cousins!:)

Do you have another question, Jim? I think we're a pretty suggestible bunch.

And "Brave Sir Robin ran away! Bravely Ran away away! When danger reared its ugly head, brave Sir Robin turned and fled!" will do just fine. :rotfl:

Frankenpooh that is a GREAT story. Just last weekend, I said to someone who said she had "junk in the trunk" that I have junk in my whole car! Which is true in both a literal and figurative sense.

Kim John Henry had some mighty pants! :rotfl2: I LOVE it!

Yoda - another old favorite! I'm met him in a swam down in Degoba where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda. S O D A - soda. Oh, that Weird Al. :yoda:

Thanks so much to everyone who has stopped by our home thread today! This is even more fun than we usually have here. Which is saying something!
