Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

I will continue my attempt to help us catch up to Donald tomorrow.

Good night!

(I'm not that competitive. Am I? :rolleyes1)

LOL, I keep watching their numbers LOL.. Hopefully we will get caught up to them soon.

I am a mess!!!

Yesterday I weighed in, I lost just one pound, so what did I do?

I ate, and Ate, and ate!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRR

So today is better. DH and I went and worked out. I am getting ready to make chicken for dinner and hopefully get back on track, cause now I need to lose that pound and more!!!

Took down all the Christmas decor, just need to pack it all up now. Watching the Bengals lose right now. MAybe they can pull it together for a first win in Playoffs in 20 years!!!

Here's to a new Healthy week!

If anyone wants to be friends on Fitness pal my name is Nrade

1 pound in a week is a GOOD & HEALTHY weight loss. I lost close to 2 pounds and I don't want to lose more than that in a week because I will just gain it back. I know my body, I know if I lose weight fast, I'm just going to put it back on even faster than I lost it!

But, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start over!! Make losing 1 pound your goal for this upcoming week and then anything over that is just bonus!!

So I need some suggestions for supplements.

I take a daily multi-vitamin, but I'm curious as to anything else I could take that might give my weight loss a boost.
I remember reading things about Vitamin D helping with weight loss but not sure where I red that, and how much to take.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Michelle (yanni2)

Thread hopping again, trying to keep up with both. This caught my eye and you might have already left, but I was curious and googled (well, yahooed) it and came up with the following:

Mickey Mouse Bar (choc covered ice cream bar 2.5 oz)
cal 131, fat 9.6, carbs 11.03, pro 1.27
Rather sure it has no fiber, comes to 4 points for my WW - not too bad;)!

Dole Whip, 1/2 cup
80 cal, 0 fat, 18 carbs, 0 pro
I was not aware it was not a Disney original, or that it was ff soft serve, so not much too it, but still came up as 2 points - not a big pineapple fan, so have never tried it

Will have to enter the MMB in my WW for my next trip - although honestly, tracking while at the amusement parks will probably not happen. And I always end up maintaining or losing anyway since it is non-stop for u:banana:s!

Carol

I didn't know those calories. I will remember those when we are in disney in March. I am going to do my best to keep up with my goals while I am there!! We are doing the deluxe dining plan, but I find on that plan that i tend to eat more healthy because I have a larger selection to choose from.

Thanks for the pep talk!! I am trying!!!

Truly have no time, but in trying to beat those Donalds with posts: hello!

Went for a run this morning. Not a good time, but then I remembered the first time I did it was 5 minutes slower. It's all in perspective.

Have a super evening or probably night since most of you are east coasters!

I'm taking DD to her co-op placement today. I WAS going to stop at IKEA for lunch, but I think that I'll just take some veggies with me to snack on. I'm using Fitday to track, so I'll try REAL hard to stay OP. I've been so exhausted (and still achy) this week, that I did well. I don't want to mess it up NOW!

what's a co-op placement? did you wind up taking snacks or eating at ikea?

Today I got a visit from TOM. I'm on BC so I was expecting it today or tomorrow. Usually, I get it on Sunday, but no biggie, and I could tell by how I was feeling yesterday.

I am unexpectedly going somewhere today during the lunch hour, so I'm not sure what that will mean. They always have GF food, so I can't use that as excuse and bring my own meal. I haven't eaten breakfast yet, so I shouldn't be too hungry.

I have plenty to do before I need to leave, so I better get going.

Have a wonderful day!

ah, TOM. always there when you (don't) need it! how was lunch?

One more thing...

Team Donald likes to post- A LOT. We are way behind in post counts.

Just in case anyone was wondering...

their post count is up but they have also had some drama and snarkiness. i'd rather have less posts and more shiny happy people on our team! just sayin' ;)

Will be cleaning and shopping this weekend. Preparing meals as much as possible on Sunday for the work week. Sounds like fun huh?

My healthy choices will be shopping the perimeter of the grocery aisles only. No junk food makes it into my house unless the Mr. sneaks it in. Yeah, I know he has a stash, but he doesn't know I know. :rotfl2:
Jo

yes! shopping the perimeter is so important! i try to do that as much as possible too!

.QOTD: what are you doing this weekend? and how will you incorporate healthy choices into that activity?

The only planned activity we have is a concert. DS16 is playing in All District Band this afternoon :thumbsup2

I will get a walk in before or after the concert. I've got pork chops thawed for dinner and I am heading to the kitchen to makes soup for lunch. Maybe tomorrow we can go somewhere and walk...we have some great parks and walking trails!

And... I'm going to drink my water. I've had a terrible time with that.

drink drink drink!!

Good morning, everyone! The weekends are a huge challenge for me, exercise-wise, because my weekly routine is based so much on the kids leaving for school - I work out before I start work. On the weekend, we're running errands, etc. So I thought a lot this week about how to make sure I get exercise.

Fortunately, today is an absolutely beautiful day in northern VA - we're forecast to have temperatures well into the 50s! So we're packing everyone out to a park with a playground we haven't visited before. It has trails, too, and while DH is watching the kids on the playground, I'm hitting the trails for a walk. I'm going to shoot for at least half an hour.

Later, I think I might invite the girls to try some Just Dance with me. And/or I'll do a ride on my bike, which is removed from the kiddos.

One of our general resolutions is to spend less, so while we'd usually be eating out at least once or twice on a weekend, our plan is to have all our meals at home this weekend. And that gives me a lot more control over my food intake.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

XO
Liz

today was such a gorgeous day! i hope you made it outside for some activity!

This is a CHALLENGE and Donald is beating the snot out of Mickey right now!! :rotfl2:

As you can see by my post count, not many posts for all the years I've been a member. I'm always the lurker with nothing to say, but I'm trying.
Let's start posting and supporting each other!! :cheer2:

Jo

go team go!

:banana:Yay my first week and I have lost 3lbs :banana:

AWESOME JOB!

Hey everyone, I am new to this thread, just joined and was chosen to be on team Mickey! I am excited, and nervous as heck, because I feel like I have to be even more accountable for my choices more than ever!

I am currently 166 lbs, but was 178 when I started my lifestyle change (hate the word diet) in October.

What got me going was a) a mom that I do not get a long well with asking me when I was due and b) seeing how I looked in my September 2011 WDW pictures. Also, how nasty i felt while in WDW.

Previous to Christmas I was 164, but put on 2lbs over a 3 week span :(

I use the app my fitness pal and try very hard to not only stick to my calorie goal, but incorporate more fresh fruits and veggies.

I try to get to the gym 5 days a week, but life gets crazy sometimes and I make sure to go at a minimum of 3!

My favorite exercise classes are Zumba, spinning and a circuit training. I am not a fan of tread mills, free weights, or anything that doesn't involve other people lol! I seem to push harder when a teacher is eyeballing me!

I have a fantastically supportive boyfriend, who is tiny, but has also started the new lifestyle change with me, and has lost 22lbs so far(think he put 3 back on over holidays though)! To be fair, although he is small to me, he has put on 45 lbs since we started dating 2 years ago.. he was emaciated then though lol!

He is my rock, and never pushes me beyond my limits but also doesn't let me get out of work outs or healthy eating! God bless him, because I can be a total whiny baby!

I have 2 awesome children 11 and 5! I nanny but tonight is my last night. With that said, I have been working for my friends pet sitting/walking business and that will be my new full time job! Which is great, because it keep me active!

My goal is to be 130 lbs, which I don't believe I have been since I was about 9 or 10...no really...

My biggest weight was 208 in December 2009. In January 2010 my sons father cheated on me with a close friend and left me. I went down to 168 from not eating and just overall depression.

In February 2010, I started dating my best friend of 13 years:love: I had always secretly been in love with him, so I was and still am smitten!

We will be going on 2 years this February, and I couldn't be happier!

I am not sure how this all works, so any pm's with advice, and encouragement will be greatly appreciated!

To answers todays QOTD- I am taking the little boy I nanny to a roller rink party, so I will be roller skating for exercise today, and also taking my kids for a walk to our little town :)

Our next (in our minds) planned WDW vacation is for Feb 2013. By then I would like to love pictures of myself!

Pics of my heaviest and as of Yesterday

and now

4db3346e.jpg

a very warm welcome to you!!! thanks for sharing your story! i'm looking forward to losing with you!!

I am so excited to be a part of team Mickey!

I have joined this challenge because I do so much better with accountability. If I don't have specific goals, I really tend to find excuses and blow things off. (I'm so not proud of this but have finally come to except it.)

So.... my goal - to get down to 137lb. I am at 151ish now. I am doing this mostly because I don't like the way I feel. I have been sluggish and tend to feel run down and tired all of the time. My sleeping patterns have really been lousy the past couple of years too. I'm hoping that better eating and regular exercise will help combat this too.

Right now, I play volleyball in a competitive league once a week. Have started playing racketball again once a week. LOVE IT! And am looking for a marathon or half to run. (Again, much better with a goal. If I don't have a race, I don't run.) I had started training for a local marathon at the end of May, but they just cancelled it. So, I'm trying to figure out another one.

My biggest problem is that I eat so poorly. I need to fix that!

Anyway, I am looking forward to the challenge and being part of team Mickey!

welcome! i have a good idea for a marathon for you to do - WDW!!! i'll be doing it next year :)

We love Disney on Ice! We didn't go this year and the kids were :( but it just wasn't in the budget. Keep that resolve and make those HEALTHY choices!

I posted the recipe for the low carb White Chicken Chili I made yesterday on the Recipe board.

ooo that sounds delish!

we got tickets for free to disney on ice (box seats, woot) and that's pretty much the only way we got to go because it is PRICEY!

PACKING, PACKING, PACKING! Which makes me feel like this: :crazy2:

We're also celebrating my brother's birthday tonight, and while I'm not sure what the actual meal will consist of, I know he's requested strawberry cheesecake. I will have a slice, and journal it.

mmmmm cheesecake...mmmmmm.....

no, wait, i'm not pregnant anymore. can't have cravings ;)

good luck with the packing!

Hello fellow teammates! I got a call yesterday from a friend who wanted to meet for breakfast today. We always meet at the same 50's diner. Food choices aren't great, but I got 2 eggs over medium with sourdough toast and bacon. I know yikes. I'm pretty certain I won't eat until dinnertime because I'm pretty bloated feeling! I'm glad I went though it was nice to catch up. Before our 8am breakfast I made sure to get 2 mies in on the treadmill so that's a positive. Also just want to send a shout out to our awesome coaches you guys are the best! Have a great day everyone!

i don't think you did too bad considering the massive amounts of poor choices you could have made at a diner! a couple of eggs and bacon and toast after a 2 mile run doesn't sound too bad!

My absolutely FAVORITE supplement is magnesium. It is a natural muscle relaxer that will help your muscles recuperate after a work out. My husband works construction and it helps him 100% with leg cramps.

Of course, I'm always behind!

QOTD: How are YOU doing with the challenge so far? What's the hardest part? What will keep YOU working hard in this challenge beyond the end of January?

I'm doing pretty good. I'm down about 2 pounds this week, so that is a good start. The hardest part is staying away from chocolate. I think I'm a chocolate addict LOL.. there needs to be a 12 step program. I'm not exercising yet either. I've got to regain some of my energy before I can start on that... so I want to say one of my greatest challenges (besides chocolate) has been my low energy levels. But, I'm working with my dr and they are helping me figure out what is going on with me. And what will keep me working beyond the end of january... I turn 40 this year, and I have spend my 20's and 30's fat, feeling bad, and out of shape.. so I just don't want to do that anymore. I want to get control of this and regain control of my life.

QOTD: what are you doing this weekend? and how will you incorporate healthy choices into that activity?

Today I'm just being dang lazy LOL.. I've put my esty shop on vacation for the week while I get some orders our and some new items made to list. I'm working on my 2012 jewelry line "Naturals". It is all going to be nature inspired, ceramics, crystals, stones, base metals, etc..

Tomorrow, we are going to visit out college age daughter. I know we are going to ruby tuesday, so to incorportate healthy choices into that, I've researched the menu and reviewed the calories. I've already picked what I want to eat, and will stick to my plan.

Oh! I did hear back from my dr about the lupus test. It was negative. So, that is a relief.

phew! hurray for negative tests!

Lisah0711 I just read your post again and I've got to hand it to you!! 15 miles!! Woo hoo! That's something to celebrate!

And I like the Runners World thing you mentioned about a 52 second half marathon time decrease with every 2 pounds we lose. That's GREAT!

oh i didn't read that about the 52 second time decrease! all the more reason to lose!

QOTD: what are you doing this weekend? and how will you incorporate healthy choices into that activity?

Our weekend is pretty low key this weekend. Finances are really sucky with my Dh just starting a new job, so we are avoiding leaving the house because that tends to end up in some money being spent...lol!

We do have church this weekend tonight and tomorrow might for us.

To stay on track (and avoid spending money) I have dinner in the crockpot for tonight....chicken with carrots and potatoes...I will eat mostly just the chicken. For tomorrow night there is leftover chili already done.

Today I am starting my increased workout time. So moving up to 20 minutes a day.

I'm also increasing my daily water goal to 5 glasses a day.

Michelle

good plan!

*****************************

sorry friends, i'm running out of steam with posting. we had a looonnnnggg day today and i'm beat.

DH is taking DS2.5 to soccer tomorrow morning and hopefully the baby will nap at that time so i can take more time to reply!

hope everyone had a great day.

disney on ice was FABULOUS!

phew! hurray for negative tests!

disney on ice was FABULOUS!

Thanks, I was really worried about having lupus.. I'm just not ready to have to deal with a diagnosis like that.

My husband I took our nieces to disney on ice earlier last year. OMG, it was fabulous!!!

Hello everyone,
It's your friendly weight-keeper here :goodvibes

Weigh-ins have been coming in like crazy, so I don't have much time to post and read replies, but I will respond to a PM if you need me.

My goal is to post on here, so it's easier for some to just click the send a private message link in my name to send your weigh-ins.

People have been doing great and we're off to a wonderful start. Some people have inspired me to kick my butt even more next week, so it's great for me as well.

Right now, Team Donald is in the lead, but not by much. I am still missing weigh-ins from 33 Team Mickey participants and 30 Team Donald participants, so please keep them coming :thumbsup2

You have until Monday night at 7 PM EST to send them to me before I post the week's results.

Have a great Sunday everyone :flower3:

Ok everyone!! Get those weigh ins sent!! You know we want to kick Donald's feathery butt!!!!! lol

I ended up making dinner: tilapia, green beans, loaded mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. My brother didn't realize that it was fish; he took a bite and said "What is this chicken? It's gross!" :rotfl:But he ate it all anyway.

The vacuum seal bags are my new best friend. I bought two extra large ones from KMart and put three pillows in one just to try it out. Wow! It shrunk so tiny and Mom said "You mean all this time we could have been bringing our own pillows to Disney?!" :lmao:

I packed almost all my clothes in the other bag and it's much smaller than it started out. The bag was a little bigger than my suitcase so I had to fold it a bit, but I think it will work out.

ah, TOM. always there when you (don't) need it! how was lunch?

TOM wasn't too bad today. Well, except for my mood. I thought that was why the gyn prescribed BC. :rolleyes1

There was actually nothing GF available, except for stuff like chocolate. I ended up eating at my sister's and having an egg, a slice of cheese, and a few slices of GF ham from the deli. :)

their post count is up but they have also had some drama and snarkiness. i'd rather have less posts and more shiny happy people on our team! just sayin' ;)

Putting on my hostess hat here: Please, if you are offended by anything or find the thread disappointing you in any way, please, please PM me.

Nancy brought up a very good point. I am not going to comment on some of what has happened on Donald's thread other than to say that I hope we continue with being our smooth sailin' friendly, supportive Mickey selves! :goodvibes

Guess who just finished working out a good-looking menu for most of January? Me!!!!!!!!

The GF/CF (gluten-free/casein-free) cookbook I ordered came in earlier this week and I scoured it for new recipe ideas. I am hoping at least a few turn out well so that we have some new options. I love chicken and could eat it everyday, but my parents, well, not so much. They are okay with it a once or twice a week. I am hoping that adding some variety to our chicken options will help. I am also adding more turkey meals to the menu lineup and hoping that those meals taste great and won't get any complaints.

I got our Team logo into my signature!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a bit excited about my 2 accomplishments in the last hour or so. :rolleyes1

I also wanted to say thank you for supporting me. I had a much more OP day today. My goals for tomorrow are to go to the gym to do a C25K run/walk on the treadmill and to drink all 64 oz. of water. I intend to be better about journaling as well. I think that cooking more of what we eat for dinner will help with that. I usually have no problem journalng breakfast, but then again, I make it entirely myself. I have no idea how much breadcrumbs my father put in the meatloaf last night.

Some of my other plans for tomorrow:
- making my bed (I made a mess out of it again. :rolleyes1)
- cleaning my bedroom (Why is that every time I do something other than sleep in my bed I need to clean the entire room? :rolleyes1)
- couponing
- wrap some Valentine's Day gifts
- relocate the clean laundry from the piles around the house to their proper locations
- organize my purse

Have a great, OP day tomorrow everyone! :goodvibes

One more thing...

Team Donald likes to post- A LOT. We are way behind in post counts.

Just in case anyone was wondering...

Honestly, I'm okay with that. To me this thread is almost hard to keep up with. A lot of times I don't reply or read all the posts because I don't have time and then I feel like I am lost. In addition to being in a new teaching position, I will be taking four classes from three colleges this semester: One in Braille, one in teaching kids with disabilities, an ASL course through a community college, and a course in Deafblindness. I have watched these challenges before and sometimes I think that you will lose more people if you can't keep up with a thread. It's better, IMO ,to be smaller but have substance. Besides, it's more about the challenges than how many posts. IMO.

Hey everyone, I am new to this thread, just joined and was chosen to be on team Mickey! I am excited, and nervous as heck, because I feel like I have to be even more accountable for my choices more than ever!

Welcome!
I am so excited to be a part of team Mickey!

We're also celebrating my brother's birthday tonight, and while I'm not sure what the actual meal will consist of, I know he's requested strawberry cheesecake. I will have a slice, and journal it.

I am so excited for you! The CP was one of the best experiences of my life and I think about it a lot. You will truly enjoy it.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I'm with you... I played volleyball in HS and was a Flag Twirler for our Citywide marching band. I like you remember thinking I could have been thinner back then, and well now I wish I could look like that. I know it seems so hard to go back... but that person is still inside. I realized that this week when I started goes to them gym, I was so sore but it felt so good! It was how I felt during practice and I was like yeah I remember this! So yes use those pictures as motivation!
BTW, someone posted about how cool it was for you to be Mickey... I agree, like the pp I know that there are people in those costumes but sometimes I forget... So the first time I saw that picture I was like where is she? Then I realized you were Mickey... amazing!

Thanks! It was my dream job and still is. I also did several other characters for the MK 3 O'clock parade. I was part of the opening cast of Disney Dreams Come True. At one point I was disapproved for one of my characters because I had gained some weight and with the harness I had to wear the costume didnt' look right. (I was still a healthy weight, but at the very top of my range.) I lost something like 15 lbs on WW and was able to be reapproved. I am so much heavier now that I know that I would not be able to fit into many of my old costumes. We do plan to move to Florida one day and I really want to go back to it, so that is my motivation.

On a completely different note, have any of you done Weight Watchers in the past? Well, if you're not familiar with it, in a nutshell, you have an allotted amount of points each day. Foods you eat are assigned a number of points based on the number of carbs, proteins, fiber and fat they have. So in a day, I get 27 points. I went to Skyline Chili and got a deluxe black bean burrito. It has no meat (black beans only), and I really the only thing "bad" about it was the shell and the cheese they put on top. So I'm thinking I'm doing "okay." I really thought I'd walk out (skipping the crackers) for about 11 or 12 points. So I get home, go to Skyline's website, pull the nutritional info and plug it in to get the point value. Guess how many points my one burrito at lunch cost me? EIGHTEEN POINTS! Moral to the story? PRE-PLAN! :goodvibes So tonight, I have 9 points for dinner and snacks, which is very doable, but :headache:. Oh well, it could be worse, right?

At one point I lost 15 lbs on WW. It works well, but it just wasn't working for me which is why I switched to Jenny. I have had many of those days and you have that kind of "oh crap" moment when you go to track it. My downfall on WW was a mental one. Since it is weekly and your FPs are weekly, if I felt like I screwed up royally, I would just give up on the week or feel like I couldn't use FPs at all and feel deprived. I also had the issue that points were so tedious and it was so hard to count points at a place like the World where they have foods that are not cookie cutter foods. It does work for a lof people, so I'm not knocking it. I just came to realize that even though I was successful once, the multiple failed attempts since then show that it is not right for me.

1 lb is great! Although I realize it is not as excitign when you see larger weight losses. You have a good attitude at this point, so keep up the good work. We all fall of the wagon sometimes.

Honestly, no supplement can truly help with weight loss. Based on what I have read, the ones that "help", that help is so miniscule that is not going to make a noticeable difference. A multi should be more than enough, and unless you have a specific medical condition or deficiency that has been diagnosed, you have to be careful. The supplement industry and claims are not regulated. Numerous tests done by news organizations in independent labs have shown that in many cases you are not getting what you are after. They often times do not have the strength they purport, and some supplements in large quantities can actually negatively affect your health. I would discuss any supplements with your doctor. Right now I take a multi and fish oil because I do haev high cholesterol and it brought my cholesterol down. But I wouldn't take it if I did not have a cholesterol issue or if it had not been approved by my doctor.

QOTD: what are you doing this weekend? and how will you incorporate healthy choices into that activity

Great Saturday, over 60 degrees today in "wintery" New Jersey! DH & I took the ds's to the local HS track, he jogged over a mile then played football with the boys, while I jog/walked 2.75 miles. Woo hoo to us! I will take this spring-like weather as long as Mother Nature will give it to us here in the Northeast--we already HAD snowdays off of school with our October 30 snowstorm that knocked power out in our town for days. Done for the year, thank you!

I also 30 Day Shredded today, Day 9! I'll feel all of it tomorrow, but yay today:thumbsup2 I only lost .4 of a lb this week, but I know I've been eating much better, has to be due to a little muscle increase, 9 straight days of 20 min exercise...right??:rolleyes1
