Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

Ugh, I'm struggling today. I've not logged my food, because it is logged in my head LOL. I had to fast for a dr's appointment this morning. I'm telling yall.. I know I'm fat and I know I'm turning 40 this year, but does that really mean that i have to literally start falling apart? I have thyroid issues and my levels are off, so she gave me a med adjustment. I'm also anemic, but she thinks that after a month of supplements I'll feel better.

But here is the kicker.. I finally took the time to write down all of my concerns, complaints, etc.. that I have had for the last few months. She feels that i have an inflammatory disease and is checking me for lupus. She thinks that what I was earlier diagnosed with as Rosacea is actually a lupus rash because she saw it flair up right in front of her.

So, I go back in a couple of weeks for my blood work results.

I've not not felt good all day long, so I ate some homemade potato soup and that is it for the day. I might go back and eat a little yogurt here in a little while, but for now.. I'm keeping it light.

Are you surprised by how much (or little) you can eat for the calories, depending on which foods you choose? Which meal was most shocking to you?

OH Yes!!! One thing I have learned on my life long trip of yoyo dieting is that the more you have to chew a food, the better it is for you and the less calories it has it in. Think about it.. There is 184 calories in 4 ounces of chicken breast, and there are 554 calories in 4 ounces of chocolate.. The more nutritionally sound a food is, the less calories it will have in it.

I love crystal lite and have been having that lately!

A lot of people find it much easier to drink water if it is flavored with Crystal Light. I like it myself, but I also like plain water. In the summer, I drink a lot of CL lemonade. :cool1:

Kristina: Love, love, love your binder! Thanks for sharing!

QOTD~ Yes, I was surprised about the amount of sugar and calories in some of the coffee flavorings that I like. I LOVE coffee and love to try all the different flavors, depending on my mood. But several of them have a lot of calories...especially when you put several tbsp in! :lmao: So, I have to cut back on the flavoring when I want more than one cup of coffee:sad2:

There are some sugar free varieties. Just an .

I went to the Gym this morning. I met with my trainer. He is great. I think we might buy some more sessions with him. Try to meet with him once a week.

Glad you like your trainer!

So here is my fun story...DH got me an Iphone for Christmas. I love it.

I am using it for lots of fitness Apps. My trainer says I can link it right to the fitness machines if I use the lifestyle machine App. He and I are going to try to figure that out this week.

Anyway, yesterday, I WON an Iphone from my work! I was so excited, but now my kids are fighting over it! :rotfl: Let's see who is nicest to me now!!! I am going to work this for all it is worth!!!!!!

:rotfl:

So far I have done well this week. :cheer2: I've:
Exercised 10 minutes a day
Drunk my 4 glasses of water (or more)
I've only had 2 sodas a day
And I've eaten smaller portions and a lot less carbs.

:thumbsup2

Thanks for saying it was alright to be mad. You are right, I was mad because then I really wanted a sweet treat and there was NOTHING for me. Okay I am letting go of that guilt!! :goodvibes

Good for you!

Nancy: Nice job at Subway! Had to laugh at the almost screaming part.

Okay well I just ran/walked my mile in the house. I really didn't want to get on the treadmill. I started running little intervals last night during commercial breaks. The furthest I got was 4 minutes. Now of course I was running in place. So today I told Alan to stay in one spot in the house. I turned the country music channel on my satelite and started running in place for a few minutes. Then I stopped and started walking in place. Then I got really adventurous (LOL) and started running around the house. You can imagne the funny looks I was getting from the cats . So anyway long story short my mile was 33 minutes long. I'm going to do my BL workout later tonight. I need to get some lunch in me.

I used to walk a mile or more around my living room, kitchen, and dining room. Sometimes I’d walk to wherever my mom was and talk to her while walking in place. My parents thought it was hysterical. I was losing weight so I let them think whatever they wanted. :cool2:

I guess I can count giving two massages today as my workouts for the day. I was sweating during both: 2.25 hours total.

Absolutely! :thumbsup2

Ordered Chianti braised short ribs at Olive garden and couldn't figure out why I was so bloated. Come to find out the entree is a bit over 1000 calories, but the sodium was just under 3000. Holy Mickey!!!:scared1: No wonder I felt like my body was gonna pop. lol. It sure was worth it at the time though. ;)

Restaurants put salt so much salt in food.

Hi everybody - I have just signed up for the team challenge and been assigned to Team Mickey. I am now the heaviest I have ever been (except briefly when pregnant with twins) and need to lose between 3 and 3 1/2 stone. I tried to diet all last year and ended up heavier than when I started which was not good. Hopefully this year I will have the motivation and will succeed - we are going back to Disney in December so would like to be thin for that.

:welcome:

Just wanted to say I hope the nightmares
stop and you can get a peaceful night.
Are you taking any new medications or supplements? Sometimes they will trigger nightmares. I tried a new Melatonin to help me sleep and it gave me the most awful nightmares. Didn't know until my daughter started complaining of the same thing. Once we switched to our old brand, the nightmares stopped. hth.

Thanks! I have a med check tomorrow and will ask about that.

Does anyone know anything about ground turkey? Of course I have a lot of "diet" recipes that use it and I always read about substituting ground turkey for the ground beef to make things healthier but all I could find was marked Lean and is 93/7 percent. The ground beef that I use is leaner than that! So how does that make my dish healthier than just using ground beef? And I had to go to 3 stores just to find that.

I think (and this is a big I think) the key is to use ground turkey breast. I have a hunch Pamela would be the best person to ask about this.

Do you love salads but hate the process of getting it ready or just don't have time every morning before work?

I've been making 'salad in a jar' for a few months and I love the convenience. Make ahead food is your friend. :thumbsup2 Check it out!

http://www.salad-in-a-jar.com/skinny-secrets/salad-in-a-jar

Jo

Will do!

Oh, and may I recommend the Lightsaber app for your new iPhone? It's free. :teeth: It turns your phone into a lightsaber with full Star Wars sound effects. You can even change your lightsaber base and color. It has no practical application but if you ever need to whip out your lightsaber and take care of someone, you will be ready! :darth:

I’m sorry, but this had me cracking up. :rotfl2:

Maureen: Hope you are feeling better soon! I don't know much about kettleballs except that some people really love them!

You comments about Leslie and Denise had me :rotfl2:.

:welcome: Liz!

Oh I am the same way as your parents...I. Love. Salt!!! I salt EVERYTHING! Ok confession time...I even salt canned soup. :rolleyes1I know that's terrible! I try so hard to cut down, but I haven't been successful yet.

Perhaps I am making myself out to be too perfect. I went low-salt cold turkey after a major vertigo episode that resulted in the first of many misdiagnoses with Meniere's disease. The first recommendation for treating Meniere's disease is a low-salt diet. It was afraid to eat because I didn't know how low-salt to go. It wasn't pretty. :goodvibes

I've had a few ;) bad doctors in my history of trying to figure why I have so much vertigo and nausea. There was the ear, nose, and throat specialist who didn't look in my ear. I have some other great stories too. My point is that you seem to have found a great doctor who is really listening to her. I hope that you continue to trust her and I hope that you find an answer soon! I also hope you are feeling better soon! :goodvibes

LOL!! lisa, you know me, i'm a numbers gal so i'm all for the weight loss calculations!!

This is one thing we do not have in common. :rotfl2:

"Which brings me to my question of the day for Tuesday, January 3, 2012: Are you surprised by how much (or little) you can eat for the calories, depending on which foods you choose? Which meal was most shocking to you? "

Amanda

It is suprising how much (or little) you can eat, depending on the food! Its all about making those smart choices. DH is Italian, so we eat lots of that. We stumbled upon a stromboli recipe that is super yummy and about HALF the calories :) We actually had that tonight and a yummy salad!

When I exercised in the morning, it wasn't predictable if I needed to eat something first. I remember I ended up not eating before exercising and overall, seemed okay. Some days were worse than others, but again, unpredictable. I never did completely figure it out. Good luck!

I dont know for sure either. I used to be able to work out in the morning w/o eating and didnt have a problem, so, I'm not sure what yesterday was all about. I have a horrible habit of not eating breakfast, so that is something I need to change anyways.

Been one of those "blah" days. I havent been able to come up with the energy yet to work out. Its still in the plans, for a little later tonight after the kids go to bed. I'm SOOOOOO sore from working out yesterday. My legs are super sore, so I've been trying to stretch quite a bit.

Eating...well, yesterday evening when I logged my calories into the USDA website, I was about 780 calories, recommended 1900-ish. So, I need to figure out how to get a few more calories in somehow. Havent entered my calories in for today, but I have had the following...

Bkfst - whole grain english muffin w/ turkey sausage and egg white. Water.
Lunch - Peanut butter & honey on 2 slices of whole wheat bread. Water.
Dinner - Chicken & broccoli stromboli (heavy on the chicken & broccoli, light on the cheese). Salad - lettuce, spinach, cucumber, tomatoes, a handful of croutons, fat free catalina dressing. Water.

Snack tonight after workout will either be a piece of fruit or some greek yogurt.

Need to get my little ones to bed and then workout. Kids go back to school tomorrow, so I'm hoping I can do a little Yoga several times a week in addition to my regular workout when my younger kiddos are napping during the day.

My biggest goal for the week...DRINK MORE WATER!! Its all I drink (except for the occasional Dr Pepper), but I just dont drink enough of it. 24oz if I'm lucky! Need to get to that magical number 64 oz!

Hope everyone has a good evening. Be healthy :thumbsup2

Hey Mickeys! Hey Mickeys! smickey:

Posting the QOTD and will be back tomorrow for some more replies.

This is a shameless copying from what sparkpeople.com does on Facebook but it is a lot of fun. :cool2:

It's Woo Hoo Wednesday! Give yourself a big "woo hoo" for helping yourself to be healthy and share something that you did today to help you with your goals. :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I'll be back tomorrow to share my answer.

Have a great evening!

Hello Team!
I have been reading our Team Mickey thread and am finally getting around to introducing myself. I'll go through the questions of the day.

QOTD Saturday, December 31, 2011: Please introduce yourself and tell us about your goals for this challenge.
I'm Amy, married for 17 years, 2 children (teenagers, yikes!), Disney fan as long as I can remember. I fell in love with the WDW resort after my first visit when I was in my early 20s; which was a long time ago...
My weight has steadily crept up over the years beginning with my first pregnancy but I've been a little chubby most of my life. Now I've gone beyond the chubby stage! My goal is to make exercise, eating healthy, and getting enough sleep my normal day to day thing. The better I do at this, the less of a weight problem I will have until there is no problem.

QOTD for January 1, 2012: How will you make sure you achieve your goals this challenge and this year?
1. Getting on the elliptical at work for at least 10 minutes each time for mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks, if I don't have meetings that fill up the day!
2. Going to bed no later than 9:30. I get up at 5:00am so this is not really going to bed all that early.
3. Keeping fresh and fresh frozen vegetables and fruits on hand.
4. Preparing at least one healthy dish over the weekend for reheating during the workweek to prevent potential to "go through the drive-through" after a long day at work.
5. Check in with my Team several times each week to give and get moral support!

I am already in the habit of taking an apple and banana to work every day. I usually have a serving of natural almonds in a ziplock bag for a protein snack as well. Fresh fruits are almost always available at home too. I'm struggling with the veggies part.
I prepared a big pot of a lentil vegetable soup Sunday for heating up a couple of days this week. Good stuff! I fell off the wagon big time today though.:guilty: My husband prepared burrito fixings for dinner tonight. I poured a bunch of tortilla chips onto a plate, put a dab of buritto meat filling, shredded cheese, and hot salsa in each one. The chips are shaped like miniature taco salad bowls. Yummy! but I ate so many of them; I couldn't seem to stop! I'll have the soup tomorrow night with a few wheat crackers and a glass of fat free milk. Can't give up trying!

QOTD for January 2: Do you think tracking food is an importnt part of weight loss?
Yes, although I do just as well or better to track only the things I eat that I shouldn't or the overeating. Along with tracking these, I might include the where, when, why, with whom, to try to understand triggers versus cravings I guess.

Except for today's question, I'm almost caught up!
Hope everyone is having a great week! :)

Better late than never, right? Hi! I'm Liz, and this is my first BL challenge.

I've done this dance for a loooong time. I first joined WW back in 1996. ! Two re-joins later, in 2000, it stuck, and I made lifetime status, losing 33 pounds in about 6 months. I maintained that loss until Eric and I got married - and I got pregnant the next month! With Anna, I gained 80 pounds. :scared1: I lost just about all of it after she was born, and then I gained 60 during my pregnancy with Tessa. Oy. Most of that came off, too, but the last 15 (to a revised goal) have been stubborn as anything. I'm back on WW, of course, as I've loved the success I've had with it (I'm also the liaison for the university where I work and WW - we have an on-campus meeting). But I think I need a little extra push and accountability to jump-start myself - especially my exercise - after the holiday season.

So here I am! Proud to be Team Mickey and looking forward to a great challenge. Now, here's hoping I can keep up!

XO
Liz
:welcome: It is great to have people here that have met their goals to help us all remember that we CAN do it.

Well I am so ready for this day to be over. Just been one thing after another gone wrong. I have done fine on eating (did have 3 pieces of chocolate that technically weren't OP, but of all the options they were the best ones. )

I HATE COOKING! DH is the cook in our family but I do cook a few times a week. Usually because I am trying a new recipe. He isn't good with stuff he hasn't made before-- usually he doesn't agree with the recipe and has to "tinker" with it. By the time he gets done I am not sure if we liked the recipe because what we have is nothing like what was supposed to happen. I have to make it the first time, work out the kinks and then rewrite the recipe in the way I want him to make it and will work for our family. Of course a lot of times he still doesn't agree and tries to tinker with it. I have one recipe I love and I'll be damned if I can get him to make it EXACTLY like the recipe says, which is the way I like it.

Anyway, I made a new recipe tonight Pan Roasted Chicken with Mushrooms, Onions, and Rosemary but I was making it with Pork Chops. DH wasn't home to grill them like we usually do so I had to cook them somehow, and my girls don't like them grilled anyway. I managed to overcook everything! Dry pork chops, squishy beans, and mushy zucchini. :crazy2: The recipe was a successful concept and if cooked properly it would have been great. My kids said it was very good. In the process I also burned my arm and got a splinter from a freaking wooden spoon. I prefer plastic but DH likes wood.

My stupid Keurig is acting up and wouldn't make my iced tea which was about my melt down point. DH got it to work when he got home. I had a few drinks and then the entire thing spilled all down my couch, into the pull out bed, all over the floor and into the pillows and cushions.

I am having a cup of diet hot chocolate to relax and finish out my day. Just going to sit here on the couch and veg and watch stupid TV. I was going to get the ornaments off of my Disney tree put away but there is no way I am going to touch anything else I could break/destroy tonight. Gonna just sit here.

Okay, done venting. I really need a good night's sleep and a day to stay home without everyone else and relax and enjoy some me time.

Hi all! I'm Noni or just MHL. I tried a BL and did ok a few yrs ago. I will try to stay engaged and participate often. I need to lose about 35-40 lbs but will settle for 20 for the challenge. I try to get to the gym 5 days a week and do 8 classes each week. I have a lot of issues with a strict diet and feel like I'm being punished if I try to follow an eating plan for too long. I have been very fortunate that I did not gain any weight over the holidays and didn't really restrict my food choices. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with going to the gym so much. My house is rather busy; I have 4 teenagers and all the kids' friends come here to hang out. I work in a jail and deal with a good bit of work related stress. I commute about 3 hrs round-trip everyday so I do a lot of sitting and a good bit of my day is eaten up by work commitments. I have been very envious of people who have been able to commit to participating in the WDW marathons. I really want to do one soon but lack the motivation to do the training.

I suppose that's about it. I have to go back through the tread and read a bit more and get a handle on the challenges and QOTD for the week.

It's Woo Hoo Wednesday! Give yourself a big "woo hoo" for helping yourself to be healthy and share something that you did today to help you with your goals.

Ok, it's for tomorrow, but I have two small victories to report today.
1. I actually got up 20 min early and did 30 Day Shred, Day 6 before getting ready for work.
2. I decided to forego my planned frozen yogurt, inspired a bit while watching Biggest Loser on tv tonight. Instead chose to finish logging for the day on MFP and all was good.:thumbsup2

Going to come back and re-read this post on days when I need a little boost;)

I'll be back tomorrow to share my answer.

Have a great evening!

I'm answering tonight cause tomorrow will be CRAZY for me!

Tomorrow I will be:

1. Starting my Gym routine!
2. Trying to eat healthy and log my meals into my food journal for the first time on the go!

Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow! I will be checking in probably around this time tomorrow so I know I'll have a lot to read and respond to! :rotfl:

Hello Team Mickey!
I am new to Team Mickey and the W.I.S.H. boards - well I attempted to prep for a marathon but that didn't go well - moving ahead;) I will follow a previous posters idea and answer the questions of the day and try to meet some folks.

QOTD Saturday, December 31, 2011: Please introduce yourself and tell us about your goals for this challenge.
My name is Dawn and I am a SAHM of twin 7 year olds (boy/girl). I also homeschool them, I work part time at the YMCA, and sell Avon, and facilitate diversity workshops as a consultant. I feel like I am always busy and I don't know when I became obese. I found out 2 days ago that I will have to lose 10 pounds just to be overweight and not obese :scared1: I decided that I was really sick of being too big and would start to utilize the resources available to me to get in better shape. I also have a dress I am determined to wear and look fab in on my birthday:thumbsup2

QOTD for January 1, 2012: How will you make sure you achieve your goals this challenge and this year?
1. No less than 30 minutes a day of real exercise. Elliptical/walk away the pounds or go to the Y.
2. Definately going to bed earlier than I have been - no later than 11pm.
3. Stop snacking on chocolate at night
4. Cooking foods that I like but are good for all of us
5. Use my support system

QOTD for January 2: Do you think tracking food is an importnt part of weight loss?
Yes, I did WW and it worked for me. I can't do it now but I just joined the myfitness website and logged my food and exercise so I hope that will help.

Now I need to do the question for today and I will be caught up. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Which brings me to my question of the day for Tuesday, January 3, 2012: Are you surprised by how much (or little) you can eat for the calories, depending on which foods you choose? Which meal was most shocking to you?

I'll be back tomorrow to answer.

Have a great evening all! ::MickeyMo

I have been surprised at how small a true meat portion is supposed to be. However I had a big bowl of greens for a salad and was really happy with the size. I think that is where tracking the food helps because it helps me make better choices.

So I went to get the blood testing done and had to leave before they could do it. I sat in the drawing room for over 30 minutes because they couldn't find one of the tests (the food intolerance one.) I finally asked her how long it would take and she couldn't tell me. I was already late to work and they hadn't even drawn the blood yet. The good thing is all the other tests are ordered and she was supposed to call about the test they couldn't find today. So I'm going tomorrow at open to see if I can get it done before school.

Today was pretty good. I did have some frozen yogurt, but the nice thing about Jenny is that I do not feel guilty for small splurges. I was proud of myself because I had a rough afternoon and any other time I would have eaten out instead of eating my Jenny meal. I almost had to ride the bus home with a student, as it was I had to stay very late waiting for a different bus. I did have to ride the bus home with him one and was so hungry and tired that I grabbed Italian on the way home since I knew they would bring bread out first thing. I was able to resist the temptation today, so I was proud of myself.

I really want to start exercising again, but I've been nervous. Since the last time I got sick, I have been coughing a lot. I tried to do Just Dance with my husband on New Year's Eve and felt like crap the whole next day from coughing so much. I'm debating if I should go see the doctor. The last time i did it wasn't bronchitis flare up so tere was nothing she could do. I don't want to be the girl that criest wolf, but I am getting sick and tired of it. Hopefully the blood tests and my ENT visit next week can help me figure it out.

Okay yes I know its late and I should of already been in bed but I have to get this off of my chest.

I've been in FL now since mid September. Life and holidays have gotten in the way and I finally was able to get hold of Tricare (military insurance) to get a new doctor. Well, a task that usually doesn't take that long wound up taking an hour.

Now, it'll be 4 years in a few weeks since my husband and daughter died. I have accepted what has happened and that they are never coming back. No, I'm not completely over it. I still have my bad days (and my REALLY bad days) but for the most part it doesn't consume my life anymore...... UNTIL...

I freaking have to call these knuckleheads!! It makes my blood boil (because some of them just aren't that smart) and its like rubbing salt in a wound. "Mrs. A you are a surviving spouse?" Seriously, every time I get asked that question I want to yell in the phone "Um, do you not have his information in front of you? It clearly says he's DECEASED. Therefore that would mean I'm a surviving spouse." I know they are doing their job and yes some of these painful questions have to be asked to verify information but it still just annoys the crap out of me.

So after going back and forth between Tricare and DEERS I finally got someone on the phone that knew her head from her butt. I told her, "You know its bad enough that my husband is dead but its a pain in my butt everytime I want to simply change my doctor I have to go through this nightmare." Luckily, she was understanding and helped me get the process taken care of over the phone (Thank god for not having to mail paperwork off and extending this process). I now have a new dr and need to get an apt made.

So, this whole fiasco of course brought up all the emotions of the 4 year anniversary of their death (Jan 27th). Every year since their passing I've been out of town on that day. I can't handle being home because it just depresses me that much more and I eat my weight in ice cream.

We were at Daytona Beach a few days before NYE and we enjoyed ourselves. I spent a lot of time walking the beach and just relaxing. I told Alan I wanted to go back the 26th - 28th. So, my task later today is to look into prices at the hotel we stayed at and determine if we want to stay there again or somewhere else.

I'm going to get some single long stem roses and take them with me. The day of the anniversary I am going to release them into the ocean.

Plans for today:

Call new doctor
vacuum
work out
research hotels

I'll post replies later today when I get up, G'Night!

Good morning crew. I am a little late joining but I am here. My name is Greg, I have been a disboarder for a while now we are planning our fourth trip to the world, we'll be there in June.
This is why I am here. Last June I had a slight motorcycle accident. While loading my bike onto a trailer, I fell and the bike landed on my knee. It was a very minor thing but I went to the doctor and they weighed me. I was 286. Now that number didn't bother me because I have always been a big guy, not really fat but at 6ft in height I can fill a doorway. What did bother me, was when the doctor described me as, "morbidly obese" I decided that I needed to do something. I started a diet after returning from our July 2011 trip. I am very proud to say that I have current lost 42 pounds but I still want to drop another 59. I plan to get down to 185. Realistly I hope to be 200 pounds for our upcoming trip.
Now, I gotta let y'all know, as far as the game goes I will not be weighing in weekly. I work on a boat and cannot weigh in that often. I will be weighing in every third week. Sorry, but that's the life of a towboater, or as we call it, "Tug Life".
I am also going to throw a shout out to all my fellow disdads.

I have been surprised at how small a true meat portion is supposed to be. However I had a big bowl of greens for a salad and was really happy with the size. I think that is where tracking the food helps because it helps me make better choices.

Lately a nacho tray. I learned from biggest loser to look for portion sizes in regards to calories--this makes a huge difference. For example check the portion size on a box of pizza--you would be surprised.:scared1:

Morning all,

Disneywedding2010- I think sending the roses out to the ocean is a beautiful idea! I will be thinking of you that day!

Off to a pretty good start this week. Down 2.8 so far this week but I usually lose the weekend weight pretty quickly. I got a bad case of indigestion last night from supper and then had some cheese and crackers but didn't over do it. We all also had some Irish cream on ice. Going to eat my usual for breakfast, not sure about what's for supper yet tonight. I think we actually are all home tonight. Probably pick up something when I go out later today. Gotta think about what I want to eat.

Hoping to get some type of workout in today. Not working and thinking that all I really have to do is take my mom to return some things and hopefully find a screw to fix the couch at Ho,e Depot. Brian wants to take care of that on Friday.

About to take Ash to school and then come back and get Izzie ready. It's 7 degrees here this morning! :scared1: I should probably go and start the car and get it warmed up!

TTFN :tigger:
