Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

Quote of the Day

I will try to do these as often as I can, but sometimes I forget. This one how ever sums up the theme for this season's challenge.

Don't say you don't have any time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Tomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein.

Hello all :) Got my PM that I am officially Team Mickey!

I am 35, SAHM with 4 kids (age...10, 8, 3, 2). DH and I were working out 6 times a week last year and eating super healthy, then we went on vacation to Vegas and never really got back into the swing of things.

Our issue is sweets. We have dessert LOTS of times over the course of the week, so that is what we really need to change. I would like to lose about 15lbs.

We recently started walking again (aiming for 2 miles each day) and beginning tomorrow we will be doing Biggest Loser on the Wii. Why tomorrow and not today?? Our Christmas tree takes up a big chunk of our living room, and that is where we work out. Tree is coming down tonight, and tomorrow morning starts our workouts. Beginning next week we will begin Inasnity. We made it through 6 weeks earlier last year before crashing after we came back from that Vegas trip :lmao:

We are also changing our eating habits a little and having fish 2-3 times a week, chicken and ground turkey. Not really much change from our norm, just adding in more fish...and hopefully less of those evil desserts :rotfl:

1 Nature's Own English muffin
2 pieces of Hormel Canadian bacon
1 piece of Kraft single American cheese

YUM!!

Can you hear the wagon wheels? ;)

i hear the train a'comin'. it's comin' round the bend....

i'm on it!! see me lose that weight!!

In 11 months it'll be our 25th anniversary and I'm making DH take me to Disneyland. My brother lives in Florida so we've been to WDW a few times (not nearly enough, though!), but never to DL togetherToday I ran my 3.27 mile loop which I hadn't done in months and months and felt pretty good about it.
Welcome to everybody! Keep up the effort. You can do it!

happy almost anniversary! ;) definitely make that hubby take you to DL!

nice job on the run!
A friend of mine has agreed to join the gym, walk and run with me to get this weight off. With that, and eating better I am hopeful that this year I can get back into shape and feel better about myself.

GO TEAM MICKEY!!!!!:cheer2:

a workout buddy! awesome! that will definitely help keep you motivated!

Hey, I'm Buffy aka BAMB I'm 37, married 19 years this coming April. I have 4 kids. I'm a NAHM, never at home mom. I like to scrapbook. UM...... this is like my 3rd or 4th challenge. I'd actually like to fully complete one, LOL.

My goals are:
1) lose 20 pounds
2) post at least once every day
3) make more time for myself.

Januarys' goal is to not eat out at all. January 2011 we spent $135.22 eating out, and that's the cheapest eating out bill we had. Some are upwards of $1000, it's ridiculous.

not eating out is something we HAVE to do! saves money AND makes me eat less (cuz my cooking's not that good!)

This time I am going to stop thinking about the bigger picture but instead focus on the small stuff every time I have a decision to make (go to the gym or watch TV, apple or muffin etc). If I make the right choice in the small things I hope it will add up to a healthier lifestyle and weight loss.

great outlook!!

Also I'm a diet pepsi addict. I think one of the health habits for this week is to drink more water. I hate plain water so I will drink Propel. I really do like that. I usually bring a 24 oz bottle of diet pepsi with me to work so to start with I'm going to cut down to one can and bring the Propel too.

i love diet pepsi too but i try not to buy it. DH really likes it so if we do have it i only have one everyone once in a while. i think propel has alot of sugar in it? try cutting it with some water. it'll make it last too because i know propel can be a little pricey!

By the way TEAM MICKEY the Donald team has noticed that we are chattier than they are and have more posts -- they are trying to catch up so check in when you can and make them keep chasing us! :rotfl:

We love a little friendly competition here on the WISH boards! ::yes::

go team mickey!!

-Eat some veggies from the veggie platter
-Eat some fruit
-One deli meat sandwich
-I know I will probably have some dessert, but no more than one of each thing that I *really* want.

I weighed in this morning at 210.0, so up 1.8 from the end of the fall challenge. But now I know where I stand! My initial goal is to get below 200, and then I'll keep going from there!

you can do it! up 1.8 at the end of the holidays isn't bad at all! we'll all meet our goals! hurrah!

So, I started out the new year by oversleeping....LOL!
So far I've started my day with a cup of hot tea (not soda...yay me :cool1:) and 2 scrambled eggs with a touch of cheese for flavor. Working on eating a lot less carbs...my downfall...so if I can start my day with little to no carbs...then I can have them with dinner.

i'm jealous you got to sleep in. one day i will, one day...

i'm a carb addict too. i definitely try to keep it to a minimum but it's hard!

PS Right now I am currently drinking water

woot! yay water!

Your little guys are BEAUTIFUL! :)

aw, thanks!!

you are soooo set up for some great success this challenge and i'm going to be following your lead with the meal planning, the listing out of goals AND figuring out some rewards that aren't food related (cuz you know i would totally lose 5 lbs and treat myself to some cake:scared1:) mani/pedi rewards sound perfect to me!

Quote of the Day

I will try to do these as often as I can, but sometimes I forget. This one how ever sums up the theme for this season's challenge.

loved the quote!

*********************

ok i'm running out of steam here with the replies so i'll have to come back later and do some more.

i'm back on the wagon and worked on a meal plan today. i sent DH out with DS2.5 to the grocery store. we're both on the wagon. we weighed in today and it was ugly!

oatmeal for breakfast, soup for lunch, carrots and almonds for a snack. we have leftover lasagna that we'll have for dinner but we're splitting one "portion" instead of eating the amount we'd usually have and i'll make a salad. then some nice hot chocolate for dessert.

it's sad, i actually have a headache from the lack of crap. ick. at least i went for a nice walk today. things are changing for the better!

GO TEAM MICKEY! :cheer2:

And!!!!!! You remember my little schpel about soda and sugar. 17 teaspoons of sugar in one 20 oz soda. That's 22 packets of sugar. Go buy a box of sugar packets and lay 22 out on the counter, could you or would you eat them right now at once??? that's what you do every time you drink a bottle of soda.

FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T SAY THIS WHEN AUNT FLO IS VISITING ME!!:lmao:

In all total honesty yes, I absolutely could do this. Love straight sugar. And it does indeed cure hiccups:thumbsup2 And Aunt Flo is known for putting entirely odd cravings in my head. It is not always easy to ignore them when they are of the food variety. Please, I beg you for next 3-4 days. DO NOT help her out:worship:

OK so it looks like I am not the only one here addicted to pop. Some people are replacing some of their pop intake with some water and some pop. I have my brain set to giving up pop cold turkey but now I'm not sure. I drink pop morning, noon and night so I guess I could cut back? :confused3 Maybe I should just stick to my original plan and give it up cold turkey? :confused3

What do you think?

Lisa Lu

PS Right now I am currently drinking water

Hi! I'm a cold turkey type gal. When I found out I was pregnant I gave diet pop up that day cold turkey. My friend pregnant at the time too, had 2 pops her whole pregnancy. If that were me, I couldn't stop at 2. If fact after I delivered DD through a csection the first thing I asked DH was for a diet pepsi and a salad with lots of blue cheese (another food I gave up while pregnant) Good luck on the say no to pop quest!

Yum is right! I think I should try that! Thanks!

I'm doing replies one page at a time to avoid any problems with the smilie police. ;)

The usual movies reward I think. I got kind of burned out on the movie going thing but now am interested again. It really does motivate me and it gives me another interest than food.

Whew! Glad you got that out of your system -- now you're ready to rock n' roll! :rockband:

What works better for you, Lisa? Do you do better when you go cold turkey or when you phase something out? I don't do well with the cold turkey, I do much better getting used to changing something but not everyone works that way. Sometimes what worked for you before doesn't work now. Life is crazy that way! :hippie:

Happy New Year's Mickey team!!

QOTD --- i'm committing myself to journaling and making better snack choices, not cut them out but work them into my plan for the day

Happy New Year to you, too, Molli! party:

I hear them... come pick me up!! :)

The goal setting, the menu planning, the HH chart . . . looks to me like you already in the wagon! :thumbsup2

:wave2: Happy New Year!! It is so awesome to so many familiar names and all of the new ones. :) I hoped to say Hi to everyone but it has already taken me an hour just to read everything and I have to get some things done today.

Hi LTS! :wave2: Nice to see you! Hope you are feeling better. :flower3:

Hi, I'm a little late to the party, but I'm joining in full-force!:cool1:

My name is Erin, mom of 3 great kiddos. I just stopped teaching in June.

:welcome: Erin! Sounds like a great plan -- you know what works and what you need to do. :goodvibes I had some backsliding this summer but the good news is that it seems to be easier to take the pounds back off on the "do over." Hope that is the case for you, too. ::yes::

I am thread hopping here, and on my phone, but wanted to let you know about DH bronchitis. He was constantly getting it and the doc finally prescribed steroids. Started 10 days, then to 30, and finally a 60 day course knocked it out for good. That was a couple years ago and he hasn't had a bad bout since. I guess repeated and continuous bronchitis weakens the lungs and makes you more suspectible to infections and the steroids helped strengthen the lung tissue to better fight off infections. Hope that makes sense.
Now back off to my thread - - just wanted to give you a heads up on that.
Happy New Year everybody and Good Luck!

Carol

Thanks for sharing this, Carol!

You're welcome to come and visit any time.

This is a good time to remind everyone that you can post on the Donald thread, too. We will all eventually end up on one thread as the challenge progresses and there is a lot to learn and share with the other team -- even if we do want to beat them in the weigh ins! ::MickeyMo

Happy New year! I'm excited to have a clean slate and a fresh start. I have a lot of weight to lose and this challenge seems like a great jump stat to a new me!

How will you make sure you achieve your goals this challenge and this year?

I haven't thought a lot about this yet. I'm having surgery on 1/5 and some pre-surgery bloodwork showed that I am possibly (ok, probably) diabetic. I'm waiting until Tuesday to see my GP and see how things stand. Between the lifestyle changes that dealing with diabetes will require and the surgery on Thursday, I've decided to just take things one day at a time. Since last week, I've given up a massive caffeine habit (coffee and Diet Coke), upped my water consumption to 2 qts/day and started using Myfitnesspal. After doctor visits, I'll hopefully have a better idea of what my next steps should be.

:welcome: KDIPIAZZ! Thanks for joining us. Sending you good thoughts and tons of pixiedust: for a speedy recovery from your surgery.

Do you like seltzer or sparkling water? I am not a big soda drinker, but I used to be. Now I find that while occasionally do have a glass of soda, I satisfy my soda cravings by having cherry seltzer. It has some of the flavor and all of the fizz!

Bicki, you are right that seltzer's fizz is a good thing to enjoy. I also like to put a thin slice of lemon in plain water -- yum! But honestly, I do still drink Diet Coke, too. I know . . . :sad2:

Afternoon everybody

Quick pop in otherwise will write myself a novel:lmao:

Quick additional info about me. 38 for another 2 weeks and married for 8yrs to a great husband. Also mommy to 1 doggie Onslow and Lhasa Apso Mix. and amd very much missing our late cockatiel Rally who got sick and died in July. It was very heartbreaking though we are hoping for a new tiel soon.

So sorry about Rally, Maureen. I can still picture Onslow trying to walk in the deep snow last winter.

Hello to everyone! You can call me Tau. I'm a married mother of three and was a surro mom x5, so I'm finally at a stage of my life where I won't be pregnant anymore. I started reclaiming my body last year (making this my second BL challenge) and am ramping up my efforts again with 2012. I really have 20/30 pounds to lose, but I'm hoping for just 10 this challenge. I figure slow and steady wins the race.

Tau, so nice to see you again! Good luck with your busy week at the Y. Do they give you a membership as a perk? It would be nice to be able to work out after you get off work since you are already there. Can't wait to hear more about working in Antarctica -- sounds very exciting and very cold. ;)

And!!!!!! You remember my little schpel about soda and sugar. 17 teaspoons of sugar in one 20 oz soda. That's 22 packets of sugar. Very good point about the soda, Buffy. :thumbsup2

Oh my goodness! I am eating way too much junk!

We have a New Years tradition that involves playing board games and eating fun yummy foods until midnight. Its a blast and we all really love it. I always make a centerpiece dessert and this year it was a 6 layer chocolate cake with mint buttercream frosting. Oh my!

I didn't count calories last night, but I was pretty moderate with my eating. (I didn't even touch the baked brie) TODAY is a whole nother story. EVERYTHING looks totally delicious - to include that monstrosity of a cake. (which is really really good, btw)

I am still under my minimum allotted daily calories, but goodness gracious I have eaten nothing healthy today!

You can do all sorts of variations, too, adding onions, red peppers, spinach, etc. My friend, Kathy, puts salsa on hers and cooks her eggs in the microwave. :cool2:

Hard to mess with a family tradition, Tau, and you are within your calorie range so I say ENJOY! :hippie:

That is one of the good things about tracking -- some times you find out you aren't so off track after all!

Which brings me to a perfect segue for tomorrow's QOTD -- BRB.

Good evening all! :goodvibes

It's always so fun at the beginning of a new challenge to meet lots of new people and hear how everyone is doing and their goals! :thumbsup2

I will post the QOTD for tomorrow and be back tomorrow for some more replies.

This question goes along with CC's Healthy Habits challenge for the week.

What if I told you there was something that you could do to help you lose TWICE as much weight than you would otherwise?!? Would you be interested? Would you be willing to try it? Well, you can! And all you have to do is keep a food diary! :thumbsup2

A 2008 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that dieters who tracked their food intake in a "food diary" lost twice as much weight as those who didn't track their food. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/07/080708080738.htm

It is incredibly easy to underestimate the number of calories that you consume and overestimate the number of calories you burn when exercising. It is a real eye opener when you first start tracking. :scared1:

Here is a link to an article on sparkpeople.com about how important keeping track of your food can be on this journey to good health. http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=394

Which brings me to the QOTD.

QOTD Monday, January 2, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

Have a great evening all! ::MickeyMo

QOTD Monday, January 2, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?

Yes, definately important!! I track even when I'm out of town (most of the time). I either track it from my Blackberry (have an app on my phone) or I track it on my laptop.

--------------------------

Okay well I just finished dinner and getting ready to pour my last glass of water for the night. I got my desk cleared off and my bathroom cleaned up. Once Alan is done with dinner and watching his movie I'm going to start my Biggest Loser game on the Kinect. I plugged all the info in the day I got it but haven't actually used it yet to workout with.

I pulled out a new spiral and am going to try something new. I track all my food and everything on my Sparkpeople account. However, I'm going to use this notebook to write down what I accomplished for the day, my to do list for the next day, etc etc. It'll be easier to get to then having to go through the hassle of logging into my Sparkpeople and blah blah blah.

So far tomorrow looks like a busy day for me:

Clearing dresser off
Clearing out closet in office
working out
finishing up the grocery list/meal plan for first week of January
laundry

Oh, and my other goal for this year is to get to bed at a decent hour. I'm a huge night owl and go to bed anywhere from midnight til later. I didn't go to bed til 2am this morning and wasn't up til noon. I need to nip that habit in the butt.

Did you PM dvccruiser76 (Sue) your starting weight? Please remember to tell her you are on Team Mickey!

Evening Everyone!

I got a phone call from my sister today and I ended up spending a good chunk of time with her today. Everything was fine, she just needed to borrow my father's truck. My only plan was to go to the gym and I still had time to do that, so no big deal.

I am having a problem logging in to myfitnesspal today. My computer freezes when I enter my password. Anyone else? :confused3

Today has been an on plan day. Actually, I haven't eaten much of anything. For some reason, I'm not very hungry. Perhaps it's the stomache? :rolleyes1 I think I better do some more research on what is truly GF.

Have a great day tomorrow everyone!

I just joined as a part of Team Mickey. I am so excited as we (my husband) and I are trying to lose weight starting today! I teach 7th graders and have two young children (5,6) one of which is special needs. He is kind of my push in this as I want to be able to care for him as long as possible as his condition is progressive. My husband also told me that if I lost our agreed upon weight (29lbs) before my trip to WDW with my parents in May that he would join us for a few days as my incenitve. He is not a Disney fan so that would at least get him there with the kids!

It will take me a while to get caught up on all that is going on but for right now I am really excited just to get signed up.

Which leads me to the Question of the Day for Sunday, January 1, 2012: How will you make sure you achieve your goals this challenge and this year?

The big thing for me is going to be to journal. I have to focus on both my physical and emotional health. I am too much of a stress eater to not focus on both. (Right now I am craving chocolate.)

QOTD Monday, January 2, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

For me, absolutely! :thumbsup2 Knowing what I eat gives me valuable information. Could I be retaining water? Did I eat something with gluten in it? (Like today possibly :rolleyes1) Did I eat too little protein? Dairy helps me. Did I eat enough dairy? Etc.

I also wanted to mention that some people are better than others at "guessing" at a portion size. I need to measure. :goodvibes

Attention Team Mickey!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need coaches. PM me if you are interested. Everyone has their own style for coaching. I try to do replies on most days and on other days, make a general post to all of you to cheer you on. Some people reply to every post and others do a big general post. The 2 main roles you have are to post the Question of the Day (QOTD) and to cheer your teammates on.

Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Good evening all!
Which brings me to the QOTD.

QOTD Monday, January 2, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?

Have a great evening all! ::MickeyMo

I think it definitely is an important part of weight loss, but I think a person has to be really dedicated to it. It is something that in the beginning is very time consuming and becomes easier as you go along. I have in the past kept a food diary and found myself getting bored. I really like the new ones like my fitness pal or sparkpeople (went ahead and checked it out) because it tracks calories, carbs, sugars etc. I agree with you a lot of people don't realize how much calories they are eating and burning when they do not keep a journal.

I PM'd my weight :scared1: and joined my fitness pal. Have 2 more glasses of water to drink tonight and am still reading trying to learn all about this challenge.

I am 43 years old, married 22 years. Have 2 DD's (15 and 12). I take care of my 86 year old Mom. Need to lose 50+ lbs. :rolleyes1

I plan to keep on task by posting daily. :upsidedow
