Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

Hello Team Mickey!!!

I joined yesterday and am still trying to figure out how this all works! It may take me a few days to get up to speed, but I will just jump right in!

I am at my all time high weight, higher than all 3 pregnancies in fact. I MUST do it this time. I lost 40lbs about 8 years ago, using Weight Watchers on-line. I have not made the decision to join WW again, but I may. I am going to start with counting calories.

I am inspired by a Dear Friend. I have known her for 24 years. When I met her she was a bit overweight and over the years gained a lot. Her top weight was 330lbs. She started counting calories about 4 years ago. It took her 2 years, but she lost 190 lbs... and has maintained her 140lb body for 2 years now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so, so proud of her. She quit eating, smoking, and drinking all on the same day and it worked for her. Will power to the max! She is my inspiration.

I know this is going to be HARD for me and I'm scared to death, but here.I.go.

Thanks for letting me be part of the team!
Katy

i have let myself go for the last 20 years im 40.. and when I in school was skinny and people were worried about me and now im over weight. and people and me are worried..'

I started my journey OCT 3, 2011 i weight 249 pounds and was a size 24... and now im 224 pounds and a size 18... (when i tried on the size 18 i cried.. i couldn't believe what i was seeing.).

im making small goals for myself... my goal is 199 pounds and then i will go from there

I dont have a tape measure at this time.. but will get one...

Hey, Bambii, I saw this post in the main thread, but am responding here...
You are doing great, wow, keep it up!!!!

Just wanted to say I didn't have a tape measure either, and I Googled "printable tape measure," ha! Clicked on the first link, printed it out, cut it out, taped it together and voila! :wizard:

Good luck!

i was all excited to get on the scale this morning b/c i did so well yesterday. didn't get the 10 lb loss i was hoping for. :lmao: didn't lose anything. oh well, slow and steady, right??

That's funny! Sounds alot like me! You are right slow and steady!

Good Morning. So far, I've logged my food for 3 days. I honestly think I am one that needs to reward myself for small victories.. but I need to learn to reward myself with small, non food related rewards.

So.. I think this is what i am going to do.. for 2 weeks.. if I log all of my food and I don't eat candy. I'm giving myself a $25 disney gift card!

Good Morning ! My name is Kim and I live in beautiful Montreal. This is a city obsessed with food. I swear I can hear the croissants calling me :confused3.

I have 2 kids (DS& & DD11) who are amazing....they are so easy and get along fabulously. I hate exercise...but started running last year. I did a 1/2 marathon last May and have signed up for a full one this coming May. It is one of those bucket list things....I really want to complete one marathon in my life time. I am 42 and I figure it is now or never.

I have a sugar addiction. I crave it all the time ! No chips for me, just chocolate, licorice and white carbs. I plan on reaching my weight loss goal (20 lbs) by first cutting the sugar and bad carbs. I will also run every second day and I started writing down every morsel that passes my lips. I have also promised myself that I am not going to be a human garbage disposal...does anyone else feel a compulsion to gaze on what their kids leave on their plates????

I am so excited to be part of this challenge...I think you are all a HUGE inspiration.:thumbsup2

Hi everyone! Thanks for the advice on the pop situation!!! I did not drink a single pop yesterday and only drank water, now I just have to get past feeling bored with my drink!

Lisah made a point and asked what works for me. Telling myself that I cannot have something ever again does not work for me. So I think I am gonna not buy pop and have it in the house. I also will not drink pop at work. If I just make those two cut backs I will definitely be on the right track. I will try to order water while out but I cannot say that I will never drink pop again!

QOTD Monday, January 2, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

Yes, for me it is! I need to see what I am eating. It helps put in perspective how many times I say "its only one Oreo" when I did that 5 times throughout the day!

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning!!!

So yesterday was an ok day. It was my last guilt free day... but I did manage to do all of my HH. So Yay for that. Today is day one of a 48hrs detox I'm doing with my gym buddy; I start the gym on Wednesday.
These two days are going to be extra hard for me because I'm one of those people that wants to eat everything the minute I tell myself I can't. This detox isn't even that horrible.
Today so far I've had the detox smoothie for breakfast which is:
1/2 cup of Almond milk
1/4 of a Banana
1/4 cup Frozen Blueberries
1 Tablespoon of Flaxseeds
1/2 cup of Ice
Blend it all together and you have something that looks horrible (kind of grayish) but the taste is actually pretty good.

I'm also allowed to snack on cucumbers, green beans, and radishes seasoned with olive oil and black pepper.

There is also a juice snack if anyone is interested let me know and I'll post that recipe.

Now I must share with you a funny moment. Okay funny for you, me not so much:

Alan had gone to Publix earlier to grab a few things, milk being one of them. So I went in the kitchen a few minutes ago to pour a glass of milk. I was totally not paying attention, poured a glass, took a big swig, and immediately spit it into the sink, "What the heck Alan?? What did you buy?" "Huh, what?" I go back to open up the fridge and take a closer look at the gallon of milk.....

FAT FREE!!

not 2%

Okay, now I need to brush my teeth and mouthwash. I can't get that taste out of my mouth..

Look at all those checks! Yeah I feel that way about milk in general, but I do like soy and almond milk

DH and I joined a little local Gym. So far so good. I got 6 free training sessions and a great deal to buy 3 more. I am going to use those once a week for 8 more weeks, so that should help alot.
I am on Fitness Pal also. My name on there is nrade. I will try to look some of you up.
Finally, can I read the DIS on my iPhone? Sh got me one for Christmas :lovestruc
I am learning how to use it.

Nancy, 6 free training sessions are great! My gym only offers one, it cause its a big chain I guess... not a lot of small gyms around me. You definitely can read the DIS on your IPhone, I find it a very uncomfortable to reply to but reading is fine. I wish someone would create DIS app and make things easier.

I just joined as a part of Team Mickey. I am so excited as we (my husband) and I are trying to lose weight starting today! I teach 7th graders and have two young children (5,6) one of which is special needs. He is kind of my push in this as I want to be able to care for him as long as possible as his condition is progressive. My husband also told me that if I lost our agreed upon weight (29lbs) before my trip to WDW with my parents in May that he would join us for a few days as my incenitve. He is not a Disney fan so that would at least get him there with the kids!
It will take me a while to get caught up on all that is going on but for right now I am really excited just to get signed up.

Hello! We are going to WDW in May as well what days will you be there?

My name is Nancy,,,I am not a Princess, just want to be!!! :rotfl2:

The one thing I am learning is that it’s important that you feel like a princess! Aka, you feel good about yourself! :goodvibes

I had my last long run for my Half Marathon training tonight, 10 miles on the treadmill. Drinking the water today was no problem! I had 72 oz on my 10 mile run alone. It's way too hot here in the house to be running those distances on the treadmill...

:worship:

ABSOULUTELY important!! I use the USDA food tracker...which reminds me I need to go do that in just a minute. Need to start off the new year right :)

I used the USDA tracker when I went on a low-salt diet. Good choice! :cool1:

Something else that I am going to look into is healthy new meals that my family will enjoy. We all need to cut out junk food and eat better. This is something that I really want to do. This will make DH happy too because he gets mad when I buy the kids fast food.

I’ve heard good things about a cookbook that sneaks veggies into meals and the kids don’t have any idea. I’m a big fan of eating broccoli with pasta sauce instead of pasta. Pamela gave me that idea. :goodvibes

Gretchen: WTG for writing down everything you ate no matter what! :thumbsup2 How are things at home?

I didn't stick to an eating plan too well today but I did track most of what I did eat. My DS decided today would be a good day to stop taking naps and was super whiny a lot. I did get in 15 minutes on the Wii Fit which is better than nothing but it's hard to do those exercises with a 9 month old hanging on your legs :rolleyes1 At least it was a start though and I'll do better tomorrow.

DS is 9 months and skipped a nap? :hug:

I think it can definitely be helpful if knowing you have to write it down keeps you from eating something you shouldn't. Do I do it as much as I should? No, because usually I don't actually want to see what I've eaten written down in black and white.

Sometimes, it isn’t as bad as you think it is. I’ve been surprised by calorie counts in both directions many times. :goodvibes

I think journaling and tracking food is important for those who do it. I am planning on journaling this time around....but I really stink at it. I am horrible about doing stuff like that daily. (I was never the girl who kept a diary either).

My suggestion (I apologize if this is intrusive) is to start small. First, only write down what you ate. Include portion sizes or not. Then, add in portion sizes and work toward calories and fat. I am a big advocate for knowing the salt/sodium count as well, but start small. :goodvibes

so I'll stick with a goal of 5 pounds at a time.

:thumbsup2

Yes, I think it's very important to track what you eat every day. I have found that when I don't track it I will eat more and not really notice it. I plan to write down every thing that I eat to help me stay on track.

I have found the same thing. :cool1: FWIW, after spending days without power and limited Internet (thank you iPad), I definitely learned the value of having a notebook. I should have been writing things down, especially at my grandparents where I was so sick. They had power, but do not have a computer or Internet, so I used the iPad almost exclusively for job searching. My parents had to pay for extra data as it was.

Yes, I feel it's extremely important. Why? I can only speak for myself in saying that I'm where I'm at because I've forgotten what it's like to eat like I should - both from a portion size and from a nutritional stand point. Journaling helps bring visibility to my bad habits and eating patterns.

Knowing your eating patterns can be so valuable! I know it’s great for me because I’m a stress eater. :goodvibes

The big eye opener for me was also tracking calories burned for various activities. They are much, much less than you would think. That helped me to realize that just because I exercised didn't mean I could go off plan for my eating that day. It also helped me to make better choices because I didn't want to work off the calories of "treats" unless it was something really, really good.

For example, I ran a half marathon in September. That's 13.1 miles. I was out there for just a tad over 4 hours. I weighed over 200 pounds. How many calories do you think I burned? 2,000? 3,000? 4,000? Nope, 1697. You could easily undo all that work in a trip through the drive through at McDonald's.

Same here! :eek: Feeling much better today. Thanks!

Hi Dave!

Good morning Team Mickey! Well today I woke up to snow! Ugh. The drive to work wasn't that bad. I did manage to get up and treadmill 1.5 miles and eat breakfast at home. DH is off for the holiday so he is home with DD today (a little jealous that they are at home and I'm working, but I did just have the last two weeks off so I shouldn't complain huh?) Lunch will be some chicken teriyaki vegetables and rice. Dinner is tacos, but limiting myself to two instead of the four I usually eat! I can do this! (boy I sure hope I can! :rolleyes1) Have a great Monday everybody!

Thanks for the plug for tacos. :) You can use ground turkey or ground chicken instead of ground beef. Lower fat sour cream tastes great. Idk if I’ve ever had nonfat sour cream. It’s easy to pile on the veggies too. I prefer reduced fat cheddar and hard taco shells are better than flour tortillas.

i like myfitnesspal too! it's nice to just plug in "banana" and it tells me how many calories, carbs, etc! makes it a no brainer to journal foods!

I also find it less overwhelming than having articles and threads so visible. It doesn’t distract me from the important part-tracking. :rolleyes1

I am also going to get in some exercise today. I'm meeting my friend to work out tomorrow. :)

:thumbsup2

I am inspired by a Dear Friend. I have known her for 24 years. When I met her she was a bit overweight and over the years gained a lot. Her top weight was 330lbs. Inspirations can be very helpful! Please don’t be scared. Come and post. I’m sure you’ll have a reply very quickly. :goodvibes

does anyone else feel a compulsion to gaze on what their kids leave on their plates????

I am notorious for this when I am with kids. I took 2 kids out for pizza and finished off so much food. I almost ate some of the food my sister left on her plate a few nights ago and it wasn’t gluten free.

I feel you. :hug:

Lisah made a point and asked what works for me. Telling myself that I cannot have something ever again does not work for me. So I think I am gonna not buy pop and have it in the house. I like that you know this about yourself and you are doing what you know will work for you! :thumbsup2

QOTD Monday, January 2, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary
I will have to go with Depends on the Person, because I don't journal. I hate journaling, I am terrible at remembering to do it. I tried really hard last year and kept with it for a month or so but there wasn't any difference in how successful I was while I was journaling and when I wasn't. Part of that for me is because of the way South Beach works and how familiar I am with the plan. And I KNOW when I have "cheated"-- there is no surprise to me when I step on the scale and it doesn't say what I want. The only benefit I personally got out of it was just as a resource to go back and see what I had eaten when planning meals.

I also am a "routine" person so my breakfast is almost always one of 2 things (Go Lean Oatmeal or eggs and turkey bacon), my snacks are pretty much all the same (yogurt and nuts) and I usually have the same salad and/or soup for lunch. The only big change from day to day is dinner and that is on my meal planner so I know what it was.

However I do think that it is important for a lot of the Weight Loss programs out there and I do think there are many people that really benefit from having it all written down, so I am a huge :cheer2: for journaling.

Oh, and my other goal for this year is to get to bed at a decent hour. I'm a huge night owl and go to bed anywhere from midnight til later. I didn't go to bed til 2am this morning and wasn't up til noon. I need to nip that habit in the butt.
Me too! I am so terrible about this and then I sleep in the next day and it really screws my day up. This vacation time has been really bad for my whole family because we have all been staying up much later than usual. My kids stick to a pretty strict bedtime but we have been staying up way too late. Tomorrow is back to school and work and 6:00 is going to really suck for all of us! I have already told them that everyone goes to bed earlier than usual tonight.

Today has been an on plan day. Actually, I haven't eaten much of anything. For some reason, I'm not very hungry. Perhaps it's the stomache? :rolleyes1 I think I better do some more research on what is truly GF. :idea:
Have you found the GF forums? When we were trying GF for DD11 I spent hours on the internet finding all I could and I printed a whole bunch of lists and put them in a binder. I think we ended up using them as scrap paper or I would mail it all to you. I had lists of acceptable foods/brands, ones that were bad, good candy, ingredients to look out for and of course some GF recipes. I took the whole thing with me when I was shopping so I would know what to look for. We were also keeping a food/health diary so we could monitor how she was feeling every day. I made a checklist of all the usual symptoms and she could check any of them she was feeling.

The other thing to be very careful about is cross contamination. We would make 2 pots of noodles-- one regular and one of rice noodles for her and it was important to not use the same spoon to stir both of them. And I would strain hers first then ours. I was meticulous about cleaning the counters and all cookware, dishes, silverware, and washing my hands so that nothing could contaminate her food.

It was definitely not quick and easy and really required a lot of thought and planning. Even if I was throwing a GF pizza into the oven for her I couldn't throw it on the rack like we usually do. I had to find a clean pan to put it on and tried to cook hers first before any others to minimize any contamination. We were lucky in that she ended up not being gluten intolerant. But now my Dr wants to test me. Not sure I am ready to go through all of that again!

To give you an idea on how much we spend eating out, I have tallied January to July and our total for fast food and table service was $6091.20, Starbucks for January to July was $1295.70 I told the kids today that the total so far would have paid for our 2 upcoming Disney trips, the first one I may have to cancel because of lack of funds. They were speechless. .
Wow! That is a good reality for them to see. When my kids were younger we used to tell them prices in Mickey Bars :mickeybar. They loved Mickey Bars and wanted to save up to buy as many as possible! Maybe put one of them in charge of tracking all the receipts in a place where everyone can see it so they can see it all add up.

Hi Everyone!

Finally, can I read the DIS on my iPhone? Sh got me one for Christmas :lovestruc
I am learning how to use it.
You can read the DIS on the internet just like you would on your home computer. We don't have an app that makes it easier to use on an iphone, yet, like some forums do. There is a paid app (e-ticket) you can get but I am not sure it is worth it-- not sure if it makes DISing easier. There is also a Mobile skin that you can use to reduce the amount of stuff that shows up if you are using an iphone but apparently if you switch to it it is nearly impossible (may only be able to be done by a Webmaster) to switch back so your account is permanently in that mode, even on your home computer.

S
Well, my first step for achieving my goals this year has been to join in this BL event :) We were at the store yesterday and I forgot to pick up a notebook. I've got tomorrow off of work still, so I'll head out and pick one up.
Even if you don't have a notebook journal somewhere. Use a post it note or a piece of scrap paper! You can add it to the notebook when you get it.

Alan had gone to Publix earlier to grab a few things, milk being one of them. So I went in the kitchen a few minutes ago to pour a glass of milk. I was totally not paying attention, poured a glass, took a big swig, and immediately spit it into the sink, "What the heck Alan?? What did you buy?" "Huh, what?" FAT FREE!!

not 2%

Okay, now I need to brush my teeth and mouthwash. I can't get that taste out of my mouth..
:rotfl: DH was a Whole Milk guy when we met. It took years but I eventually got him to 2% and then to 1%. That is low as he will go! Since I don't drink milk plain skim doesn't bother me. I love to make diet hot chocolate with it instead of water.

Just think of that as weight training! People pay a lot of money for special ankle weights to enhance their workout, you have one for free!:rotfl2:

I need to figure out how to send a PM in for my weight, but I'm really excited to join you guys and so appreciate the encouragement. I'm 5'4" and 193. Ideally, I'd love to lose between 60 and 70 pounds. Right now, that seems quite daunting, so I'll stick with a goal of 5 pounds at a time.

I read an article recently where a lady made very minor modifications to her diet and lost on average a 1/2 a week. It took her two years, but she lost over 60 pounds. She has kept it off for over 5 years, but her whole point was not to be discouraged over small numbers on the scale. As long as it's going down, it all adds up. It was very motivating, as I think so many of us want to race to the finish line. I guess I really do have to start viewing it as a journey, not a destination! :rolleyes1

So Happy New Year, everyone! Let's set small goals this week. Mine...journaling and taking a multi-vitamin. :thumbsup2
:wave: You and I are at about the same place and size. I agree that focusing on small numbers and goals really helps keep you going. The big picture seems impossible but 5-10 pounds doesn't seem so bad. I love that-- it is a lifelong journey!

It is time to go to the gym. I have to be there at 5 am when it opens so I can leave in time to get home and wake up DS for school. It's a bit hectic in the morning but it sure is nice to walk out of that gym at 5:45 am knowing that my exercise is done for the day. :woohoo:
5 AM??!!!:scared1: That is the middle of the night for me! I am in awe of anyone that can get up and be functional that early.

Good morning Team Mickey! Well today I woke up to snow! Ugh. The drive to work wasn't that bad. I did manage to get up and treadmill 1.5 miles and eat breakfast at home. DH is off for the holiday so he is home with DD today (a little jealous that they are at home and I'm working, but I did just have the last two weeks off so I shouldn't complain huh?) (boy I sure hope I can! :rolleyes1) Have a great Monday everybody!
You might get some Old ElPaso Fat Free refried beans or some Seasoned Black beans to have as a side. Beans are full of fiber and protein and help fill you up. I also usually make a taco salad and just crush up a few tortilla chips to add a little crunch and flavor. Yummm, now I want tacos for dinner!

i was all excited to get on the scale this morning b/c i did so well yesterday. didn't get the 10 lb loss i was hoping for. :lmao: didn't lose anything. oh well, slow and steady, right??
Get back on the scale holding the baby. Then tomorrow weigh without him- Instant loss!!:rotfl2:

I am inspired by a Dear Friend. I have known her for 24 years. When I met her she was a bit overweight and over the years gained a lot. Her top weight was 330lbs. She started counting calories about 4 years ago. It took her 2 years, but she lost 190 lbs... and has maintained her 140lb body for 2 years now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so, so proud of her. She quit eating, smoking, and drinking all on the same day and it worked for her. Will power to the max! She is my inspiration.
Wow! That is amazing. I wish I had an ounce of her will power. I don't even have to worry about smoking and drinking, just the eating part and I don't have enough will power to do that.

Have you tried doing a few weeks of very low carbs (none from any sugar/starch sources)? It sucks and you have to really be resolved but for many people it really does help reduce that craving and make it easier. After about 2 weeks it may be easier to pick up whatever program you are following.

We are about to eat lunch, but I wanted to pop on and say Good Morning!

I am feeling much better today. Hoping things stay that way. :goodvibes

Have a great day everyone!

Will be back later,

QOTD Monday, January 2, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

I'm going with #1) Yes, Definitely for myself.

I've started using MyFitnessPal again (KippWade for anyone that's interested), I hadn't been using it since October. I find that when I'm not keeping track, I either maintain or gain. It's just way too easy for me to just keep cramming junk in my mouth when I'm not keeping diligent track of it.

This past holiday season, unfortunately, it was all GAIN. At Thanksgiving time I had gotten down to 242. I gained 3 at Thanksgiving but lost it right away. The weeks following though, it just kept creeping up and up with all of the snacks and sweets everyone was bringing in at work.

My next challenge will be this week, with heading back to Disney World! Our trip last September I did fairly well. Anyone have nutritional information on an Ice Cream Mickey or a Dole Whip float?? :laughing:

Hi everyone! Thanks for the advice on the pop situation!!! I did not drink a single pop yesterday and only drank water, now I just have to get past feeling bored with my drink!

Lisah made a point and asked what works for me. Telling myself that I cannot have something ever again does not work for me. So I think I am gonna not buy pop and have it in the house. I also will not drink pop at work. If I just make those two cut backs I will definitely be on the right track. I will try to order water while out but I cannot say that I will never drink pop again!
:cheer2: Great start!

I don't have a problem with water but I am weird about it. I like it ice cold and I have found that I like drinking it from my insulated water bottle but from a glass I want to gag. Yep, very weird. This is the water bottle I have: http://www.thermos.com/products/vacuum-insulated-18-oz-stainless-steel-hydration-bottle.aspx I found it at Kmart. I have to have the insulated ones that keep ice for an entire day. FLYLADY also sells some good insulated waterbottles but I had some problems with them losing their seal. This thermos one also locks closed and doesn't leak. I carry it everywhere and take sips constantly. I usually refill it at least 2 or 3 times a day. I don't drink 8/ 8oz glasses of water a day because frankly I would just live in the bathroom if I did. I try for 4-6 a day.

Other times I will add some Crystal Lite to my glass of water. I don't need the full amount that it would be if you mixed it in a pitcher to the directions. I just add enough to flavor the water to my taste. I don't like just lemon in my water. I also really like fresh unsweetend iced tea so I usually have that with meals out and at home. Love my Keurig! Throw a tea bag into the cup holder and turn it on, pour over ice and can't get any fresher. I have several of the Tervis insulated cups and love those too for keeping my drink cold. I also found I drink more if I am using a straw. And I drink a LOT less if I have a soda in a can. If I pour it into a glass I will down it pretty quick. Out of a can (no straw) I can only drink about half. It is interesting the things you learn about yourself when you really start paying attention! Yet again, I am WEIRD!:lmao:

Today I am going to purge my freezer, refrigerator and pantry. I will have the kids take all the crackers and candy and anything else I shouldn't indulge in upstairs to little storage room I never go into. Need to get my grocery list done and get DH to go shopping.

I was doing great on plan yesterday until the evening. I was really not feeling well all day because I didn't have any carbs. Then DD had a friend spend the night and even though we thought we had plenty of food for dinner it ended up not being enough for me since I didn't have rice to go with it. I was hungry and cranky and miserable so I had DH make popcorn later. It really helped! I felt much better, but of course it wasn't a good choice. I started today with my oatmeal and will have a protein shake in a few minutes for snack.

Oh, if you are looking for a gym, now is the time to join one! If you aren't signed up for Groupon you may want to see if it has offers where you live. Mine has several gym offers right now. There are also other ones like Living Social and I can't remember the other one I get offers from. Great ways to get some good deals on local business-- mine often has some great house cleaning services and spa/massage/manicure offers. Great non food rewards!

Hi everyone i'm Lynette, and I live in NorthernIireland.

I have a real problem with binge eating, I can sit down and eat a full bag of chips and not even bat an eyelid, I HATE that! I lost 20lbs last year in the spring doing slimming world, but when I went back to college I put back on around 10 lbs. I am determined to get this weight shifted I have just slowly got heavier and heavier and I am now about the heaviest out of all my friends, but I am sick of this I want to change and i dont care if it takes me a year but i am determined to get this weight off.

I started gaining weight at around 10 years old when my mum was diagnosed with cancer, I just comfort ate and also because there were months on end when we would go straight from being picked up at school and have to go to the hospital, we were all used to eating junk food or having take aways because no one had time to cook. Well 4 years ago my mum passed away and it has been hard, for a long time I just wasnt taking care of myself, but I have decided that I need to start looking out for myself because it is up to me to get healthy.

Well I am glad to meet everyone and hope that we can all support one another and meet our goals, I hope to lose 20lbs during this challenge.

hi friends :yay::yay:

i'm here! i'm here!!
:wave: Hi Molli! I'm baaaaaccccck!

I just joined and got my PM. Here I am, Mickey, for another go. It seems that I am the senior member of the group at a just-turned-58-years-old.

I live in Southern Ontario (near the OTHER London ;) ), have 5 kids who are-almost all- out of the house: 2 at (different) university, 1 with a full time job and living not too far from home, 1 teaching in Cairo, Egypt, and the boy in the basement. :rolleyes:

I am posting from Cairo, as I have been visiting my daughter for Christmas, much to the chagrin of the other four who spent it at home with their Dad (he didn't want to travel, and the walking would have been a tough go for him). I return tomorrow, but don't anticipate being up to posting for a couple of days. Sooooo

....to all those doing the Marathon/Half-Marathon/other Mickey challenges, all the BEST! My fondest memories are the one that was the first WISH Half Marathon with my three sisters. My two sisters, my niece, and two nephews will be there doing it again this weekend. Something to be treasured and remembered forever.

Talk soon! 'Til then....just keep swimming! :fish:

Oh my goodness! I am eating way too much junk!

We have a New Years tradition that involves playing board games and eating fun yummy foods until midnight. Its a blast and we all really love it. I always make a centerpiece dessert and this year it was a 6 layer chocolate cake with mint buttercream frosting. Oh my!

We do the same thing-- and watch the New Year's TV stuff.

about a cookbook that sneaks veggies into meals and the kids don’t have any idea. I’m a big fan of eating broccoli with pasta sauce instead of pasta. Pamela gave me that idea.

I have a great one called deceptively delicious by Jessica Seinfeld--Jerry Seinfeld's wife. I really like the green eggs recipe.

January 2, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

Goin' with answer # 2. Except sometimes I think everyone can benefit from this even if they only try it once because if you have any denial mechanism working--it's an eye opener. I just don't want to spend any more time on this than I need to--if I do it turns into a big obsession and that's not good either.

Weighed today and have already lost 2 pounds yay! I know some of it is just water but it's what I needed from the scale. Have already looked into movies and might check out something from the red box if all goes swimmingly Friday. Need to catch up with academy award nominees anyway...

Which leads me to the Question of the Day for Sunday, January 1, 2012: How will you make sure you achieve your goals this challenge and this year?

In a word -- Consistency. When I am consistent with diet and exercise, I lose weight. Add in a consistently thoughtful process, and how can I go wrong? :goodvibes

Make sure to treadmill as much as possible. I really, really want to do the 5k in April with my coworkers. See the problem is weather conditions have to be near perfect for me to run outside. I love my treadmill. I'm a numbers gal so I like watching the mileage and time on the display.

I'm with you, I love my TM! I'm on it way more than I should be. I really have to make a conscious effort to go outside. This month my dh has promised to run part of the Boston marathon route with me to motivate me. We'll take the subway 10 miles out from the finish, and then run in. Yep, that does include heartbreak hill :eek: Even though it will be cold, I'm looking forward to it! :thumbsup2 I do recommend getting outside if you want to race. It takes me awhile to get used to all the outside stimuli, since I'm so used to running in a controlled environment with a consistent surface and no surprises. :cutie:

QOTD Monday, January 2, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

Yes, and that is why I really need to do more of it :blush:

Thanks, Lisah, as always you are starting us off in a wonderful direction! :cool1:

I left a couple of items out of my introduction -- like many of us I'm in my early 40s and I've been married 18 years.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone, we are going to have so much fun! :dance3:

HAPPY MONDAY TO ME!! The blog I wrote:

I started to "reSpark" on October 23rd of last year. My starting weight was 224. In the first week or so I didn't have any goals set. Well then a few weeks went by and joined a Sparkteam "Done Being the Fat Girl". One of the challenges on the team was to lose a "turkey". Well, I decided my "turkey" was 10 pounds. So i started shooting toward that goal. I didn't make the goal by Thanksgiving but I continued to strive toward that 10 pounds.

Well, I am happy to report 11 weeks, 1 day later I have hit that first goal!!

Moral of the blog? "Slow and steady wins the race".

Okay well my first night of going to bed early didn't work out so well. Yes, I was off the computer and in bed before midnight, but then laid and watched tv til 2. Then when I finally tried to fall asleep I tossed and turned another 2 hours. I wasn't awake til noon. UGH. Oh well tonight is a new night let's try this again.

Oh, I also learned something yesterday. I thought we had ate all the wheat bread in the house. Alan had bought white bread (WHY?? WHY?? goofball) so I made sandwiches out of it Sunday and Monday. Well both days after eating them I got this urge to get sick to my stomach (sorry TMI). I thought maybe some of the ingredients were bad but I checked all the dates and they were still good. The only conclusion I could come up with was that my body doesn't like white bread :laughing:.

Plans for the day:

Go through some boxes
Making my bed
Finishing grocery list
Working out
laundry
complete weekly meal plan

Oh, and I literally had to write "CHECK DISBOARDS" on my to-do list or I wouldn't of done it. I tend to start a challenge and then disappear for weeks at a time, :laughing:.

Hi there Team Mickey!!! I have been away from the Dis for a while and when I returned today, I saw this challenge and knew right away that I had to join.

My name is Becky and I live in NH. I have two sons (12 & 10 years old) and a husband that is more of a kid than those two! I am looking to lose about 25 pounds this year. I don't expect it to all come off in 3 months or anything unrealistic like that. I know that it takes time.

I am looking forward to the support and motivation as well as great ideas that come from working toward a goal with a team.

Good luck all!!

Becky

Good afternoon, all! I have to admit, I need some love from you guys. LOL! :love: Feeling so much anxiety today, and honestly, I'm mostly a cup half full person. So here it goes...

- Starting a new job tomorrow. I've been in a really bad job situation over the past 8 months, and what should be an exciting time is causing a ton of anxiety. Please keep me in your prayers. Fortunately through all of this, my weight has been pretty steady, so I didn't gain from the stress.
- My head is playing games with me. So much of weight loss (especially for women) is mental. I'm beating myself up before I ever start. It kind of goes something like this..."Why are you trying to lose YET again? You've done this a million times before and never lose weight. Why do you think this time is going to be any different?"
- I go back to work tomorrow after a nice vacation. The rat race starts again, and I can find no time for myself. My sincere thanks to whoever posted the quote about all of the magnificent people who all had 24 hrs in a day as well. So I'm going to work to put more discipline around my time and plan more than I do.

Bottom line...I need to plan my diet and exercise like I plan my Disney trips! If I put in that much effort, I'd be model thin and love every second of it! :rotfl: Thanks for your support and prayers, and though the new year brings a lot of excitement and focus, I just wanted folks to know if it brings anxiety as well, you are not alone. Have a wonderful week, everyone. :hug:
