Team Focker Watch, Part 12. Have we jumped the shark yet?

Amen to all of that. And what I don't get is this: teachers don't like it. Parents don't like it. Kids don't like it. Schools don't like it. So who the heck decided they should do it?!

The government and NCLB:rolleyes1

Bleeeh, not this coffee drinker. Just more brown water, though with a little bite to it. You know who makes a good, inexpensive bean? 8 o'clock. Though I'm not sure they do wholesale. Melitta's not too bad. As for me - I'll just keep bringing my Gevalia Costa Rica Peaberry.

Jim get Gevalia too. He doesn't like Starbucks, but also says anything is better than the swill they serve now. THe other rumor is Dunkin Donuts:confused3

Come on little Janet....it's fun....you know you want to play too....just one little mouse click! (:lmao:peer pressure, mommy style!)

Nope, gotta go back to work soon..won't have time:rolleyes:

r u back from MRI yet??

::yes:: details below!

I'm not a fan of standardized tests....but having been all over the country---let me say that if they did NOT have them in this area, the kids would probably never be able to get into college. Everything is way below the standards I saw in TX and upper SC........... Luckily Ab can take some virtual classes this year, cause many of the teachers in high school have absolutely no clue what they are teaching. (rant of the day!)

Hmmm, wonder if they would hire Jim and how much they would pay him:cool2:

Waiting anxiously to see how it went!

Detaails below:thumbsup2

It was a heck of a day.

I;m sorry, but.....

==================================

HAd my MRI done...no problem:thumbsup2 Definitely open MRI all the way if I ever have to ever get another one!:thumbsup2 Have to call the ear doctor tomorrow to make an appointment with him now.

Have Home and School meeting tonight. Jim has already been told that he has to text me the scores of the game:rolleyes1 TOmorrow is school picture day and I am volunteering to help with that so I willbe there from 8:30 until 3:00. Then Jimmy has a doctor's appointment. After that I have to bring him home, then go back to school for the SCience Fair Meeting. It's gonna be a looooooooooong day:sad2:

Have a good evening everyone!

I;m sorry, but.....

That's OK. I was going to call the school later to see if they got the lock fixed, but then I figured I'd be in there at least one more day this week, and I think that I shouldn't draw any more attention to myself. :lmao:

OMG, tennis drama...

So, I said I'd be co-captain and not captain because of the Book Fair obligations. The person who's being captain said she'd be captain, but she didn't want to set the line-ups for the competitive matches. People seem to get, um, catty about who plays with whom and so forth. Anyway, the pros said they'd set the line-ups for her, so she wouldn't have to deal with it.

Well, our first match is next Wed. and the pros just gave the lineup to the captain. One person has been picked to play that is going to cause issues. :headache: We have two people who have signed up to be on both our team and the team on the next level (you can "play up" but not down, and they're ranked with us but have been on teams for at least 3 years and never moved up - they keep thinking that they'll surely win if they stick to the beginner level...) The issue is that they practice with the other team they're on, so a lot of people don't know them very well, and several people think that if they don't practice with us, they should be chosen last for matches. But, the pros think one of them will help us win overall - the deal is that each "match" is actually 3 matches - two sets of doubles and a singles player, and your team "wins" if you win 2/3 of those - so he put her in the lineup.

I kind of agree that she shouldn't get first match dibs, but the whole point of having the pros do the lineups was so the captain and I wouldn't be in the middle of this stuff. So, though the pro said we could change it, we've decided to stay out of the lineups so as not to set a bad precedent. Still, I know that people will be mad, I even kind of understand why they'll be mad, and I hate drama and conflict. :sad2:

Sigh. :rotfl2:

Maybe I'm just anticipating trouble and there won't be any. But I doubt it. ;)

Ah, well. I'm still just out to have fun and maybe just get a little bit better myself. :thumbsup2

That's all you can do...ignore the drama!:goodvibes

Thanks, you too. I'd say your Phillies are nearly there, though I know it's not over until it's over. Sorry, T!

It's been a long, long day. I need a cupcake, desperately! :faint:

Forgive me, I just don't have the energy to try to catch up.

Without going into bloody details, my SIL has been battling with her insurance, the state, the county, (you name it, she's fought them) to have a tumor the size of a grapefruit removed from her abdomen. They finally did that last week only to find out the tumor had cancer in it and so do her ovaries, which they stupidly left in, even after removing her uterus. :confused3 She was diagnosed today with Stage 2 Ovarian Cancer. My brother and my nephew are devastated. Stage 2 isn't a death sentence, I know that, but it's just been blow after blow for my brother and SIL. They a need, no they deserve a break already.

Some good mojo send her way would be greatly appreciated. :goodvibes

I'm exhausted... I'll try to catch up tomorrow. 'Night all. :flower3:

well, stressful teen morning.........Ab decided to throw a temper tantrum cause she wanted to go out with BF instead of going to work...I said No....she said yes.....she started crying....I took away car keys.....she cried more. She made mistake of saying "it's MY car.".....don't think so....I have keys in my purse. And I still have to go to work.

But NO WAY am I letting her and her sis drive to school with her so mad. She called my mom and told her I was a "mean mom." (mom's a counselor too and she's good with Ab)

sigh.....

UGH...what a stressful morning but you did do the right thing.

I went in feeling pretty good. I had massage therapy and a little adjustment. About 5pm, my back started aching like crazy and still is. It was that tiny 120 pound massage chick! She beat me up!! :scared1:

I told her she made a chubby girl feel boney by finding every boney area in me and smashing it!!! :lmao:

Sorry your feeling sore but :rotfl2: to the skinny massage chic.

(someday I'll look back fondly on these years, right? RIGHT>>)

Of course you will and will laugh at the times like these. Of course hearing yours, and other teenage woes, makes me very happy mine are still little.

Sorry - that's as far as I got! I spent the morning in a parent/teacher conference, where I learned Leo is doing just fine and the state's new reading tests are stupid, and then signing my life away to the mortgage and AC finance companies. I need to refi to get out of a balloon mortgage and nabbed a great rate, so here's hoping it all goes through without a hitch! And the AC guys are installing my new system even as I type. :thumbsup2

Glad everything is working out for ya V and that you'll be cool in no time. :thumbsup2 WTG Leo on the good parent/teacher conference!

Lindsey has hers at the beginning of November. I know she's doing extremely well and likes it but I know I will be hearing about her talking and not following directions.

LOL, I had no other choice! I was a Countrywide customer and BoA bought them out, so they inherited me. I did the refi under the Making Home Affordable act because I'm so upside down no one else would touch a refi. Thankfully, sales are back up and prices are increasing, but units like mine that were once selling for $300K+ sold last year for $75K. OUCH! :headache:

I'm not sure just how the test was run, but here's the "stupid" part...

Teachers receive a TON of data from the test. The idea is that it should help them pinpoint the specific areas in which a student might be having trouble - vocabulary, phonics, fluency, etc. But all the teachers got was data; no guidelines for interpretation. Leo's teacher, for instance, managed to figure out that "GRL 1" meant he'd successfully read a grade level 1. But she hasn't the faintest idea what a random "4" after that means. Multiply that about 10 times and that's what the teachers have to work with. Calls to the state are unanswered and the schools are frustrated. I like her, though; she said "whatever - I read with him every day and didn't need a test to tell me he needs to work on fluency." :thumbsup2

:scared1: to the whole condo resale thing. That is just nuts!

And :headache: to the whole standardized testing thing.

It was a heck of a day.

It sure sounds like a heck of a day. Glad you had a good lunch though.

UGH...it all sounds like a pain. :headache: Hope you can stay out of it.

*************************************************

I had a long day today. After class this morning I stopped at Sears to buy Lindsey some new shoes since they were on sale. She destroys shoes and the ones I bought she's had before and they held up really well. I hope they will still do it.

I then picked DR up from daycare and headed to Target with him for some shopping and then the grocery store for some dinner items.

After that I picked Linds up at church, came home and made dinner and have been busy studying ever since. I am pooped and ready to head to bed!

Lindsey has a field trip tomorow to the county fair and I have class until late. I got an e-mail from my teacher saying we have to come in early to meet with the second year medical assisting students. :confused3 Who knows, it'll just be a long day.

Shoot...that reminds me I need to go pick up a blood pressure cuff. I guess I'll be going and doing that tomorrow before I head to class since we'll be working on that in lab.

Night everyone! If I'm not on here at all tomorrow I hope you have a good Thursday!

Ooh.. pick me! Pick me! I know exactly what that means! 1-4 means he is reading at a grade level 1 in the 4th month. :teeth: So basically he is reading as well as a 1st grader who's 4 months into the school year. Trust T. ::yes::

That's sad that I know more than the teacher. Our school gives us copies of the data and then an explanation of what each number means. And since I've been helping out with the reading program in Mads class, I've learned a bunch of "secret codes", KWIM?
