cmp, that is wicked fast work! I bet you are excited! BTW very pretty cabinets.

Aww, thanks! :goodvibes Our old cabinets were real wood and probably hand-made (original to the house, but it was built in '76), but some things bothered us... Like, two drawers that open into each other, sawdust from the drawer rails falling into the shelves below, corner cabinets that were unreachable...

We chose the light maple because the kitchen only has a north facing window, and it's dark in here at 2:00 (p.m.). :rotfl2: We chose the Shaker style because it's both simple for the cottage style outside AND can go with our modern family room furniture (mostly Ikea) that is separated by only a half-wall. :)

Anyway, yes, I'm thrilled! Unfortunately, the counters will take 10-14 days, and now they won't even start until the appliances come a week from today, but...

When I got back from the boys' tennis lession, I found this:

LOVE it. Make sure to post pics of the progress and the completion:goodvibes

Thanks!

NICE beach! :) Where, again?

What kind of counters did you pick out??

(BTW-we gutted our master bath in January when we moved in--new cabinets/countertops/shower, etc)
It was a pain during the construction--but I LOVE it now!)
And they say that you always get your money back from kitchen and bathroom remodels when re-selling.

WOW!! do these guys work quick or what!?! As I have said before we had 2 1/2 yrs of addition/renovations at our home and it was hell but the payoff is sooooooo worth it. Looks great so far, I cant wait to see the done pics.
Keep us posted.

Wow, CE! I'm so jealous! I'm dying to gut our kitchen. It's in need of rehab, cabinets, new flooring and I want stone counter tops. I hate the stupid tile with the stupid grout! What a pain to clean!

I can't wait to see the outcome! :goodvibes

OOps I must have mis understood what I was posting but I will be there in spirit if not in person. I'm planning a trip in February ALONE unless anyone wants to join me!!

The counters are "Silestone" - it is the quartz with enhancements. It kind of looks like granite but is actually supposed to be less delicate and little more user friendly, but still some sort of stone. We chose a dark green. My first instinct was to go light all the way (did I mention how dark it used to be?) but let the designer convince me that the contrast with the light wood would be good. :thumbsup2 And, yes, that's one of the reasons we went with the upgrades on appliances and such. We have no plans to move, but if... We should get our money back. ;)

It was only ONE guy! Can you believe it? My DH is handy, but he was laughing at what an actual professional can do in a day. ;)

Thanks! Somehow I started talking about the possibility of a third kid, and D. talked me into a kitchen instead :rolleyes1 , but I am SO excited now. :) I like the looks of a tiled countertop, but I can imagine that it's hard to keep up with. We have a tile floor that is staying, but we're getting the island and functional and beautiful cabinets. Woo-hooty!

On a side note, I just lit the side burner on our grill in order to boil water for my dinner, and burned the carp out of my knuckles. Sigh. :sad2:

Why, thanks... :)

You are very good at your self-proclaimed job. ;)

It's going surprisingly well. Woohoo!

So, the work started this morning.
WOW, are kitchen remodles always this fast and easy looking? I really, really need to do something with my cabinets, but just haven't been able to muster the motivation to spend the time or money on it. :sad2: There's a large chunk of my brain saying, "Why bother? The whole dang place could be wiped out by a hurricane next week - then you'd really be sorry you spent the money!" :rotfl2:
Here's a pic of where I'll be this time next week.....

Ooooo, it looks like a little slice of heaven! :cloud9:

:rotfl: And I was getting so excited!
......and peanut butter! :thumbsup2

Wine, beer, and peanut butter = tasty!
Yeah, I was wondering about that one, too :rolleyes1

The cabinets are not installed, but they are sitting where they will be, and the wall is repaired! Yay, Cliff!
Wow that's so quick :thumbsup2

Here's a pic of where I'll be this time next week.....now if I could only get my fanny in gear and start packing! (no, Jo--remember FANNY is not a bad word here so you can start using it too!)
I'd still better not use it over here :rotfl2: So no chance of a slight detour to CSR? :confused3 :rotfl2:

We had a place for you at Kona too ;)

Somehow I started talking about the possibility of a third kid, and D. talked me into a kitchen instead :rolleyes1
Third child  I'd prefer the new kitchen :rotfl2:

I don't know, but I'm impressed. The cabinets are actually up, though not the molding and so forth. Wow! :)

I'm sure that the peanut butter was out for the boys. Probably. :rotfl:

It's going surprisingly easily (fingers crossed.) :)

My third child thing is that I LOVED being pregnant (weird?) and I only got to be pregnant the one time, for 32 weeks, for two kids. I'm not sure I want the kid, I just liked the anticipation and wonder of it all. So, the kitchen is fine. :rotfl2:

So, we had our regular standing playgroup this morning, and then the boys and I ran some errands, so I wasn't at home as much today.

But, this is what it looked like when Cliff cleaned up and left for the day, around 5:00:

Getting closer! They decided that since our range is a simple freestanding one, they will go ahead and measure for the countertops tomorrow! :hyper:

I got an automated phone call from Sears after Cliff left, confirming my delivery for tomorrow. We had scheduled the delivery for next Monday, so I was most confused. When I finally got to a real person, it turns out they had the fridge in, and that was all they were going to bring, but I don't think we're ready to have it hooked up to the water line, leveled, etc. yet, so I wound up leaving it 'til next week. But, then they started claiming that the 13th (Mon.) wasn't available. :confused3 So, now they're all scheduled for next Tuesday.
