I just need a small vent...
As you may recall, we are having our kitchen remodeled. We had heard before we went on our driving trip that it would most likely start on 8/9. I called yesterday to see if that was still good, and the "kitchen lady" at first said 8/13, but then said, no, 8/9. Fine. I got plastic totes and have packed up all non-essentials out of my cabinets.
She called this morning to ask if we could be ready by Monday! Sure... A little more panic, but doable.
So, I got into my lower corner cabinets this morning to dig the end stuff out (this cabinet is one of the things I'm most excited to replace. It's just an extremely deep cabinet with no lazy susan or access to the back.) That's when I notice the 2" PVC pipe running along the wall.
This is bad, because it comes from the sink and will interfere with the lazy susan and the pull-out pantry cabinet that are supposed to go into this space.
I hurriedly call the kitchen lady, who is calling a plumber to come and see if it can be moved, if he can come before Monday, etc.
I'm sure it will cost plenty, but the most upsetting thing is that it's there in the first place. NOTHING is easy in this house. When D. redid the upstairs bathroom by himself 4 years ago, we ran into these kind of weird problems all over. They had run the hot water heat pipe through the tub, for example, and we had to have it moved to the studs... I don't know who built this house, but I'd like to meet him in a dark alley some night.

None of the original light fixtures were grounded (?), the light switches in the bedrooms all work outlets that are in places you can't have lamps (and no overhead fixtures installed), etc., etc. Simple jobs just never turn out to be simple, and even this kitchen, which we knew wouldn't be "simple" is more complex than it should be... Sigh.
Sorry for the rant, but I had to get that off my chest, and I felt that I might get a sympathetic ear or two here.
