22 schools in the county were converted to year round so my children started school July 9th. Except for the first session, they will be in 9 weeks and off 3 weeks. I think it is going to work out great.

I would actually like that (you can plan vacations better ), and I have heard that it is better educationally. The teens usually don't like it cause it pretty much limits the summer job opportunities. Texas had voted it down due to migrant workers and the theme park industry complaining.
We start back 8/23 here --they are used to around 8/4 so this is new for them.

Gotta get BA up and head for camp this morning--she was a little nervous last night so I hope all goes well this week. I will miss her!

You'd all love our school year we start beginning of Sept have 6 weeks then 1 weeks holiday, 6 more weeks then 2 weeks for Christmas, 6 more weeks and 1 off, 6 more weeks then 2 weeks for Easter then another 6 of school, 1 off, 6 of school then it's the summer holidays again which is 6 weeks.

Actually, one of the senators here who owns a seafood rest. pushed to have a law that school couldn't start before 8/25. So that law went into effect two years ago. With all of the growth here, the school board had no choice but to make most schools year round. A group of parents sued the school board so a judge said yr could not be mandatory, had to be voluntary. Then the school board sent out letters to all parents to get consent. All but 2500 said yes to YR. High schools are not YR because of sports and summer jobs, and just a handful of middle are YR. Oh there was lots of ruckus and name calling and threats and hurt feelings and such. Fun times.

I would love that!

I am loving it already. Over the weekend, I said to my children, "just think, when we go to Disney in Aug, you will already be 1/4 done with the school year."

I just had to tell you all something about the new Harry Potter film, my DH teaches someone in it! He is the Queens Waterman and is in charge of the River Thames so in the scenes shot there he had to oversee everything so was in the films, not a bad job hey

We have 4 sets of 9 weeks so it sounds like the same!
(that has been the same in the 4 states I have lived in, so it may be a federal law or something)

Same thing here...that really stinks as we were all enjoying it so much and I have a husband free night tonight!
