CE: Super news on skiiing and the move too. The MOST important thing to remember is that since it's HIS job, he has to feel good about the decision. This sounds like it's moving more his speed, as evidenced by his wanting to talk today...(or was it yesterday...DIS is slooooowwww.) Glad you guys got to chat.

I called DVC member services today to make my FIRST ressie for this summer. I know that it's probably going to be busy in June, but because of that we chose Vero Beach. Not as popular maybe??? NO. It's booked solid, and so is Hilton Head. Oh, and all the resorts at WDW too. Unless we want to go August 22nd...which is about when the kids are due back at school. HOLY CARP! WHEN do I have to call to get a week at MY DARN VILLA? Oh, and when I mentioned that we were hoping to visit the World for the week after T-giving she said, BOOK NOW at SSR (our home resort) and then call every single day from April 25th on to add days to our BWV trip (where we want to be for Xmas...not SSR) until we get all the days filled in and cancel out the days at SSR.....................................WHAT???????!!!!!!!! That's insane. Am I alone in this? Do you guys think this is nuts??? Ok, mini rant over. I'm trying to calm down. Sorry. I was just totally unprepared!

Yes, our health club actually built a dome facility 2 years ago. They do soccer and t-ball there as part of gym programs, they do a golf driving range some days, local high schools use it for lacrosse, field hockey, track, even football practices. It's cool! It also has a track and rollerway, so the boys can go ride bikes or whatever all winter!

Yes, and my real life oldest friend reminded me today that I shouldn't expect D to make quick decisions. That's not his style. This "let's research and see in 6 months/year" is MUCH more his style. I guess I was a little too close to see it - you'd think I'd know this.

I don't know too much about it, but I do know V was just saying on the TFW pre-trip that she had to call one day at a time to switch from SSR (her home resort) to AKV for August. I thought I had heard that you had to call later to get "not home" ressies. But, that does sound frustrating that it's so booked up.

Mel, I hate to tell you this, but from what I've heard, YES, this IS the norm. Honestly, this is pretty much the norm at any super popular timeshare with floating weeks/points. You have to book MONTHS in advance. Like the first day you are able. You have to fight and call for anything. It's crazy, and the reason we will never buy another timeshare that isn't a fixed week.

Ou home resort is VWL and I usually book at the 11month mark. SOmetimes I will wait a bit longer but not much. I have never stayed anywhere but our home resort but have heard it is difficult especially summer and xmas.Good luck!!

Ok, we reconfigured the plan. I got a "wait list" for what we wanted at Vero Beach. I have a week booked at BWV to be our back up in case we don't get the wait list. But, we're thinking maybe we'll do Beach Club instead cuz of the sandy beachy pools. Thoughts???

I never thought this would be such a big deal. Oh my. DH wavered a bit last night and said, "this might have been a bad idea..." OH NO! Had to talk him down.

Do I think it's nuts? Yeah, but I also think needing to make ADRs 6 months out is insane. Unfortunately, that's just the nature of DVC. Here's a little Cliff Notes version of DVC reservations...

1. Slow times at WDW are almost always busy times for DVC. Look at the point charts... if it's a low points time, it's probably going to be difficult to get reservations late in the game.

2. Smaller resorts book fast. VWL, BCV and BWV especially. Fewer rooms + high demand = people with these home resprts book at 11 months, leaving very little for other folks to book at 7 months. Ditto for HHI and VB in summer.

3. One way to get those hard-to-book ressies is to call day by day. I just did that for AKV in Aug.

4. If all else fails, SSR and OKW almost always have availability when others are long-gone. Still, for busy times, you'll need to book as close to the 7 month mark as possible.

Hope this helps! I also highly recommend hanging out in the DVC boards - TONS of good information there!

Nope, you get exactly what your points will cover. Remeber, DVC isn't really a timeshare, so much as a prepaid vacation plan.

It's a starter baseball thing, where instead of getting balls pitched to them, the ball is on a tee (like a giant golf tee). This is just a "skills" class - they'll be on teams with the town youth league this summer.
