Pjlla-

you are amazing to get out there already. I'm staying holed up in my little world of denial and pretending it's not as bad as it looks.
I've learned my lesson over the years. I'd rather snowblow 9 inches twice, than try to do 18 inches all at once. I did end up snowblowing three times yesterday. But the second two times weren't terrible. First time out about 8 am it was at least 10-12 inches.... slow going, but no impossible. Second time was at least 6-8 inches... a bit easier... and third time out was about 6 inches again. I made sure each time that I really cleared the street end of the driveway super well... nothing like a MOUNTAIN to clear after the plow comes to ruin your day!
I also shoveled the path to the hot tub after the second round of snowblowing, but I didn't go back again in the evening. Maybe I'll do it today. Thankfully it was nice and light and fluffy.
Quick question?? Has anyone heard of body(skin) brushing for skin tightening?? Supposed to be very good at minimizing excess skin, you use a natural plant fiber brush to brush towards your heart. When I get my next round of extra cash I want to get one. I know a couple of people that aren't paid or have profit at their best interest that say it really shows improvements. I didn't think about it at Christmas or I would have used part of my gift cards I had for it. Also there is an alfalfa blend that is said to help tighten skin. Its all in the T Tapp(ttapp.com if anyone wants to check it out...) which I want to get eventually too. I've tried out some of the try before you buy moves she shares on the site.
Okay caught up on the QOTD's that I had missed plus today's Q.
I haven't heard anything about this before, but I'd love to hear from you if you feel like it is working, even a little bit.
pjlla,
I hear ya on the parent part. Oh yeah it would be nice if these places weren't on every corner to hear kids scream we want McD's etc. I know for most part they may not know about it if they didn't get to go. I had an ex boyfriend whose mom never took him to ANY fastfood. He really didn't know what was there. His brother took him to McDonalds when he was a teen for the first time. Found out he had vision problems because he couldn't read the menu up there and didn't know of any of the sandwiches to choose that way. His mom had brought Burger King hamburger/cheeseburgers ONLY home a few times but he had never been inside one. Strange huh?
Not Strange, but WONDERFUL!!
DS has a friend like this. DH took the boys to McD one Saturday and this friend didn't even really know what to order. I was actually very impressed.
Thankfully, DD doesn't enjoy any kind of fast food (although, as a "woman" she occasionally craves the fat and salt of fries). If we are out and need a quick meal she will request a small chili from Wendy's or a fruit and walnut salad from McD. She hasn't had a McD burger in YEARS (nor have I). DS would eat McD every day if I allowed it. As it is, I try to limit it to just once or twice a month.... I try to save it for when we are out running around like crazy and he needs a quick meal.... but even then I lean toward Subway or Dunkin Donuts (egg sandwich, not DONUTS!

).
Not sure how often DH was eating fast food in the past... although since he works at home most of the time, I don't think it was too often. And obviously with his "forced" new diet, he hasn't had fast food since at least 11/19 !!
I
Thanks for all the suggestions. I got a bunch of stuff to start off. I have never been a big fan of oatmeal but am willing to give it a try again.
Today has been okay so far. Shoveled snow for a half an hour this morning before running out to the grocery store. We did go out for breakfast/brunch and I stuck to healthier items like fruit and yogurt.
Not sure if I mentioned this before, but there are other hot cereals other than oatmeal that are very good.... cream of wheat, rice cereal, brown rice, quinoa (this is a seed, not actually a hot cereal, but very healthy, complete protein and pretty tasty), grits (they come in instant variety if you don't have time).
Hi guys!!

Better late than never, right? Ive been placed on Team Donald and hopefully, you guys will let me join you.
Im Linds, 33 year old mom of 3 boys aged 22, 10 and 4. DP of 11 years is 39. January of 2010 I clocked in at 265. I made the promise to myself that I would make the changes needed to become a better and namely more healthy mother.
Through lots of hard work and dedication, in August, I weighed 203. However, that same month was the start of a very bad ending of 2010. Our 2 year old (who lived in for 1.5 years) grandson went home to live with his parents, we sold our home to prevent foreclosure, DP was wrongly terminated from her company after 7 years, a fight with said company for unemployment, and the passing of both my mother and DP's father - both deaths with in a week and a half from each other. To top it all off, the weekend we were out of town, burying DP's father, our home was broken into. The only thing taken was the boys' "Mickey Bucket" which is where the family saves all change and random extra money for the next Disney trip. Thankfully, nothing else was stolen, but of all things, I wish it hadn't of been that.
Needless to say, my weight and staying healthy were the least of my concerns. There were nights my boys ate Pop Tarts for dinner because I just didn't have the mental ability to do more for them.
HOWEVER, time does heal and at some point you just have to pull up your big girl panties and deal with life. So far, 2011 has been FANTASTIC and I have been able to get back on track.
Unfortunately, I put 20+ of my 60 pounds lost, back on. My weigh in on Monday was 225.
I'm anxious to get back to work and to get down to my goal weight of 160.
Glad to have you aboard! Sounds like the end of 2010 was pretty stinky for you and your family. Here's to a fabulous 2011!!
Think of it this way... you ONLY put on 20 pounds.... and then you got it back IN CONTROL!!! I lost 40-ish pounds in 2003 and spent most of 2004 putting half of it back on, so I know from where you speak. But you are BACK IN CONTROL now and that is what is important. How are those big girl panties fitting??
AGH!!! I needed these articles last night!!! I wanted to graze soooo bad!!
Weekends are so bad. DH sometimes comes home so I want to go eat out because I'm tired of cooking. He wants to eat in because he's eaten out all week. So we do the round robin of what do you wanna eat, I don't know what do you want to eat. Til it's like 8:30 and the kids are starving. At that point we end up eating fast food.
Also I have to entertain him and the kids so I don't leave the house to work out so I end up not working out at all. And if I get up he's like come cuddle with me. Yeah......no.
Nights are the worst though. The kids are all finally in bed, I want to veg in front of the TV and and unwind. I don't drink so my relaxation is food. I just want to enjoy the pint of rocky road alone without 4 kids asking for some.
I've been trying to spend nights in my craft room to keep me from eating. In fact I finished my food journal last night instead of eating salsa and chips. LOL
here it is!
The journal is SO cute!! Now put it to good use!
It sounds like you need a PLAN for your weekends. Many people here do their cooking for the week on th weekends.... but it sounds like maybe you need to do just the opposite. Maybe Wed or Thurs you could do some double cooking and make up some meals to have handy for Saturday and Sunday. If you had something in the fridge/freezer ready to pop into the oven or crockpot, you would feel less stressed and less likely to succumb to the lure of fast, easy take-out.
As for the evening snacking, I feel the same way! But I try hard to save a few points for every evening. I KNOW most experts tell you not to eat in the evening, but I've tried and it just doesn't work well for me. Yesterday I had left a few extra points for the evening. I wanted a treat to have after my last round of snowblowing. I had a small sundae for just 4 points. I had one of the Skinny Cow single serving ice cream cups (caramel cone is my favorite) for 3 points, a small squirt of caramel sauce for 1 pt, and a Tb. of fat free Cool Whip (I don't usually indulge in this chemical concoction, but it was in the fridge leftover from the holidays). It was so indulgent delicious and just enough.
I've also made sundaes from WW ice cream sandwiches. Cut them in half horizontally, top with a half cup of crushed strawberries and a small dollop of Cool Whip Free. I'd be the first one to tell you NOT to eat that terrible cool whip stuff, but sometimes, when you need a splurge, it is nice.
2011 Questions of the Day- Team Donald!!
Sat 1/1/11- How did you ring in the New Year?
This year was a quiet ring in. We spent New Year's Eve evening with just a few good friends with coffee around a fire, while the kids played the Wii. New Year's evening, we had a "New Year around the world" dinner party. I cooked and served several traditional dishes from different cultures around the world.
Sun 1/2/11- What are your hobbies?
I am very artsy fartsy and crafty. I love to cook and bake. I cross stitch and sew, among other things. I dont know if I would classify it as a habit. But I am a walker in the Susan G Komen 3 Day for the Cure. 2010 was my first year and after the experience, Ill be a lifer!
Your New Year's dinner sounds like fun. What kind of stuff did you make?
I would love to hear more about the 3 Day walk. I've been so tempted in the past to do it, but I find the fundraising daunting. Is it true that you must raise at least $2k? I would have a hard time with that.... I'm terrible with fundraising!!
I gotta say Bob inspired me today while watching BL(I watch on Wed on Hulu because we don't have cable or a box to get basic tv even).

I already did my Jillian's 30 Day Shred this morning, walked 10 minute brisk walk to bus stop and just completed 20 minutes of Bob's Yoga for the Warrior AND the 15 minute yoga abs on same dvd. OH my goodness. I don't know how many times I yelled out "BOB".

Some of those moves I struggle with because of this large thing in front of me called a belly. I just wanna get it shrunk down some.

Also with hulu I don't get long "commercials they are about a minute but most of them I did something. Leg lifts on one, push ups on another to show dd how far I've come then I did those training things where you would jump back to like a plank pose then forward then all the way up. I can't do the jumping really same reason as above but I stepped it out a few times on 2 breaks.
I did some major workouts today. Now hopefully I don't see a gain from muscle growth.

Whew. Now I'm off to the shower because I have to go out in the world to do some shopping.
You were reallly moving!! Nice job. Jillian's 30 day Shred really puts me in my place!!
I've always wanted to see them too. Let me know how it is!
Just popping in to say hello. I got 90 min of exercise shovelling snow but it's still coming down, so I'll get a little more exercise in the morning. My front yard is so full of snow, I hope we don't get any more storms till some of this melts.
I've got chili on the stove for dinner, and that will keep me on track the rest of the week.
DS is anxiously awaiting the automated phone call that school will be cancelled, but it's not coming yet. He just said I'm being so hard on him because I said he can't turn the tv back on until he's showered. He was supposed to shower right after shovelling and we came in a 5. It's a tough life.
I'm back to work tomorrow though, and my niece and nephew in the next town over already have school cancelled, so I won't have to worry about a babysitter if school is cancelled in the am.
We have school today. Late yesterday afternoon the kids were thinking they might get two days off, but about nightfall the snow stopped completely. oh well.
And what is it about boys and showers???

Linds! Sounds like you have had a difficult journey, but we're glad you could join us!
I had my appointment at Fitness Together. It was nice. The gym is pretty small, but I really enjoyed the trainer. I had a trainer at 24, and sometimes we had problems with getting on the equipment because it was so crowded. I didn't dislike my trainer, but I didn't always feel 100% comfortable with him. I think part of it was working out so publicly. He also gave me one of the hardest routines of any of his clients because I tend not to complain, and I ended up burning out. I loved my old trainer, but I like this set up better. The only downside is you can't just go in on your own to work out. I also don't know how much it is normally since I am doing an introductory package.
The doctor's office I go to is teaming up with one of the grocery stores to have a FitKC challenge. They will be choosing three families in the area. Those families will get free nutritional and fitness advice as well as free groceries for 12 weeks. I have entered Aaron and myself, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we will get it!
OOOooohh... I hope you get chosen! That sounds really interesting... plus free groceries would be NICE!!
Come back here young lady!!
Tonight, Justin (DS10) and I got all bundled up and did a 3 mile brisk walk. I felt like I could have done more but he was cold and ready to go home. Yesterday, I got a new pair of Vibram Five Fingers and wore them for the first time tonight. To say the least, I LOVE these shoes.
I went over on calories by a couple hundred - I tracked 1625 on sparkpeople. They're system has my goal set between 1200 and 1500 but I try to stay on the lower end of that.
Im still overall pleased with how the day went. Have a great night everyone!!
You got those silly looking shoes? They MUST be very comfortable, cause they are certainly ugly enough to stop people from wearing them if they weren't

My mom has terrible troubles with her feet... maybe I should recommend these.
Good morning
TEAM DONALD!
Busy morning here so I will post the QOTD and be back later for replies.
Something we were withholding made us weak, until we found it was ourselves.- Robert Frost
Who is standing in your way?
Imagine someone regularly tying small weights around your ankles as you try to climb a mountain. Doesn't sound fair, does it? But that's exactly what you can do to yourself, a little bit at a time, if you don't watch out. When you think of who and what is standing in the way of your dreams, it's easy to forget your own responsibility. Even the best of us can be guilty of unknowingly hurting our own progress.
Procrastination, lateness, being disorganized, pessimism, not being honest with yourself, severe self-criticism, downplaying achievements, focusing only on weaknesses while ignoring strengths, keeping goals a secret, demanding perfection, giving up after a small setback--these are all ways you can make it tough to be (and do) your best. Smart systems, the right attitude, and a promise to keep going no matter what will make a world of difference.
1/13/11 Thursday QOTD: Who is standing in your way? And more importantly, what are you going to do about it?
Yep, that would be me standing in my way. Procrastination, disorganization, pessimism, self-criticism, demanding perfection -- guilty on all counts. But things are getting better. I don't stand in my way so often or I'm more will to shove myself and my excuses aside to keep moving toward my goals. And that is no doubt why I'm having a good challenge so far and will have a good year.
Well... mostly
I am standing in my own way... although I could use the excuse lately that DH has been a bit in my way. The TM is upstairs in the bedroom and with him home on Disability, he has been sleeping in (he isn't a morning person anyhow).... and that is TOTALLY throwing off my morning workouts. By the time he is up and out of the bedroom, my mind is on to other things!
But, like I said, it is mostly me standing in my way.... my bad food choices, my exercise excuses.
Well... good morning all!! We have a bright sunny morning here. Like I said, it stopped snowing about nightfall. I did my final round with the snowblower about 4:30 pm. Kids would have enjoyed a second day off, but I'm glad we didn't need it. Plus snowboarding lessons today, and they would have been cancelled if school was called off. But it will certainly be a cold and windy day on the mountain!
I only got a few minutes on my scrapping table yesterday.... between three rounds of snowblowing and shoveling, 3 loads of laundry to fold, and a few games I played with DS, the day just got away from me. And here it is already after 10 am today and I still have so much to do... plus I have to leave here about 1:40 to pick up DS at school and then head to the mountain. And then I will do the crazy-driving, kid-taxi-ing thing until almost 9 pm.... thus ends my day! Tomorrow evening won't be quite so crazy, as DD is going to a swim team pasta supper and is going with another friend, so not much driving for me with that. But DS does have b.ball practice... then Saturday we have b. ball game and swim meet, and Sunday another swim meet.... sounds like a repeat of last weekend, huh??? Story of my life during the winter.
Well... I saved part of my breakfast to have a bit later, and now it is later! I'm off to enjoy my morning hot drink and a small bit of carbohydrate! Already had a 3 eggwhite omelet with sauteed broccoli slaw and roasted red peppers, plus coffee with a splash of almond milk. But when my day starts before 5 am, I get hungry again by now, so I've been trying to remember to split my breakfast into two parts.
I'm off for now..................P
