TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Not so fast young lady! You have some QOTD to answer and some Birthday Celebration updating to do! Did you totally blow the diet and have some fun? Where you been for 5 days? Did you party THAT much on your birthday??;)

:guilty: I'll go back and try to catch up. Things move so fast here it's hard sometimes. I've been working on some projects and I've been getting a bit burned out with all the computer usage.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes!! We had an nice day. I just wish for once though people would actually plan something instead of the "what do you want to do today." I always put so much thought into surprising other people with great days on their birthdays, for once I wish someone would do the same for me. Ok, whine over...

We ended up driving over to Orlando to go mini golfing at the Fairways, but they were closed for refurb, so we golfed Fantasia Gardens. After that we went to MK and just walked around and poked in shops we don't usually go in. Only rode a few rides. Left there and went to Carrabbas. :rolleyes1 I was good though and only ate half my meal.

I haven't been particularly good on my exercising. I have various health issues, one being fibromyalgia, and I've been hit with a mild flare. Just too much pain to think about adding more. But I have been very good with my eating, or I should say lack of. I've cut way back on my snacking and trying to make smarter choices when I do. I also stopped drinking my diet soda. I don't think I've had one for a few days now. At least I know the cause of my headaches. :headache: I can tell I'm losing either weight or inches because I can feel a difference in my pants. Guess we'll see what tomorrow says. ;)

Sorry I've been absent since signing on but life just has a tendency of getting in the way :lmao: Last week we were all sick and then this week has been playing catch up with work, cleaning, activities......then the snow.....

Anyway....today was my WI day and..........I LOST.....2 LBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so excited...since I've started I've lost a total of 8 lbs. I know that most of that was when I was sick last week but heck, I'll take it. I was afraid that I would gain it back once I started eating but I haven't, so far

I'm still having a hard time getting out there and exercising but I'm hoping to get on the threadmill this weekend and also getting on the WiiFit.

Pjlla- :worship: you are amazing to get out there already. I'm staying holed up in my little world of denial and pretending it's not as bad as it looks.
I've learned my lesson over the years. I'd rather snowblow 9 inches twice, than try to do 18 inches all at once. I did end up snowblowing three times yesterday. But the second two times weren't terrible. First time out about 8 am it was at least 10-12 inches.... slow going, but no impossible. Second time was at least 6-8 inches... a bit easier... and third time out was about 6 inches again. I made sure each time that I really cleared the street end of the driveway super well... nothing like a MOUNTAIN to clear after the plow comes to ruin your day! :headache:

I also shoveled the path to the hot tub after the second round of snowblowing, but I didn't go back again in the evening. Maybe I'll do it today. Thankfully it was nice and light and fluffy.

Quick question?? Has anyone heard of body(skin) brushing for skin tightening?? Supposed to be very good at minimizing excess skin, you use a natural plant fiber brush to brush towards your heart. When I get my next round of extra cash I want to get one. I know a couple of people that aren't paid or have profit at their best interest that say it really shows improvements. I didn't think about it at Christmas or I would have used part of my gift cards I had for it. Also there is an alfalfa blend that is said to help tighten skin. Its all in the T Tapp(ttapp.com if anyone wants to check it out...) which I want to get eventually too. I've tried out some of the try before you buy moves she shares on the site.

Okay caught up on the QOTD's that I had missed plus today's Q.

I haven't heard anything about this before, but I'd love to hear from you if you feel like it is working, even a little bit.

pjlla,
I hear ya on the parent part. Oh yeah it would be nice if these places weren't on every corner to hear kids scream we want McD's etc. I know for most part they may not know about it if they didn't get to go. I had an ex boyfriend whose mom never took him to ANY fastfood. He really didn't know what was there. His brother took him to McDonalds when he was a teen for the first time. Found out he had vision problems because he couldn't read the menu up there and didn't know of any of the sandwiches to choose that way. His mom had brought Burger King hamburger/cheeseburgers ONLY home a few times but he had never been inside one. Strange huh?
Not Strange, but WONDERFUL!!
DS has a friend like this. DH took the boys to McD one Saturday and this friend didn't even really know what to order. I was actually very impressed.
Thankfully, DD doesn't enjoy any kind of fast food (although, as a "woman" she occasionally craves the fat and salt of fries). If we are out and need a quick meal she will request a small chili from Wendy's or a fruit and walnut salad from McD. She hasn't had a McD burger in YEARS (nor have I). DS would eat McD every day if I allowed it. As it is, I try to limit it to just once or twice a month.... I try to save it for when we are out running around like crazy and he needs a quick meal.... but even then I lean toward Subway or Dunkin Donuts (egg sandwich, not DONUTS! :lmao: ).

Not sure how often DH was eating fast food in the past... although since he works at home most of the time, I don't think it was too often. And obviously with his "forced" new diet, he hasn't had fast food since at least 11/19 !!

I
Thanks for all the suggestions. I got a bunch of stuff to start off. I have never been a big fan of oatmeal but am willing to give it a try again.

Today has been okay so far. Shoveled snow for a half an hour this morning before running out to the grocery store. We did go out for breakfast/brunch and I stuck to healthier items like fruit and yogurt.

Not sure if I mentioned this before, but there are other hot cereals other than oatmeal that are very good.... cream of wheat, rice cereal, brown rice, quinoa (this is a seed, not actually a hot cereal, but very healthy, complete protein and pretty tasty), grits (they come in instant variety if you don't have time).

Hi guys!!:wave2: Better late than never, right? Ive been placed on Team Donald and hopefully, you guys will let me join you.

Im Linds, 33 year old mom of 3 boys aged 22, 10 and 4. DP of 11 years is 39. January of 2010 I clocked in at 265. I made the promise to myself that I would make the changes needed to become a better and namely more healthy mother.
Through lots of hard work and dedication, in August, I weighed 203. However, that same month was the start of a very bad ending of 2010. Our 2 year old (who lived in for 1.5 years) grandson went home to live with his parents, we sold our home to prevent foreclosure, DP was wrongly terminated from her company after 7 years, a fight with said company for unemployment, and the passing of both my mother and DP's father - both deaths with in a week and a half from each other. To top it all off, the weekend we were out of town, burying DP's father, our home was broken into. The only thing taken was the boys' "Mickey Bucket" which is where the family saves all change and random extra money for the next Disney trip. Thankfully, nothing else was stolen, but of all things, I wish it hadn't of been that.

Needless to say, my weight and staying healthy were the least of my concerns. There were nights my boys ate Pop Tarts for dinner because I just didn't have the mental ability to do more for them.

HOWEVER, time does heal and at some point you just have to pull up your big girl panties and deal with life. So far, 2011 has been FANTASTIC and I have been able to get back on track.

Unfortunately, I put 20+ of my 60 pounds lost, back on. My weigh in on Monday was 225.

I'm anxious to get back to work and to get down to my goal weight of 160.

Glad to have you aboard! Sounds like the end of 2010 was pretty stinky for you and your family. Here's to a fabulous 2011!!

Think of it this way... you ONLY put on 20 pounds.... and then you got it back IN CONTROL!!! I lost 40-ish pounds in 2003 and spent most of 2004 putting half of it back on, so I know from where you speak. But you are BACK IN CONTROL now and that is what is important. How are those big girl panties fitting??;)

AGH!!! I needed these articles last night!!! I wanted to graze soooo bad!!

Weekends are so bad. DH sometimes comes home so I want to go eat out because I'm tired of cooking. He wants to eat in because he's eaten out all week. So we do the round robin of what do you wanna eat, I don't know what do you want to eat. Til it's like 8:30 and the kids are starving. At that point we end up eating fast food.

Also I have to entertain him and the kids so I don't leave the house to work out so I end up not working out at all. And if I get up he's like come cuddle with me. Yeah......no.

Nights are the worst though. The kids are all finally in bed, I want to veg in front of the TV and and unwind. I don't drink so my relaxation is food. I just want to enjoy the pint of rocky road alone without 4 kids asking for some.

I've been trying to spend nights in my craft room to keep me from eating. In fact I finished my food journal last night instead of eating salsa and chips. LOL

here it is!

The journal is SO cute!! Now put it to good use!

It sounds like you need a PLAN for your weekends. Many people here do their cooking for the week on th weekends.... but it sounds like maybe you need to do just the opposite. Maybe Wed or Thurs you could do some double cooking and make up some meals to have handy for Saturday and Sunday. If you had something in the fridge/freezer ready to pop into the oven or crockpot, you would feel less stressed and less likely to succumb to the lure of fast, easy take-out.

As for the evening snacking, I feel the same way! But I try hard to save a few points for every evening. I KNOW most experts tell you not to eat in the evening, but I've tried and it just doesn't work well for me. Yesterday I had left a few extra points for the evening. I wanted a treat to have after my last round of snowblowing. I had a small sundae for just 4 points. I had one of the Skinny Cow single serving ice cream cups (caramel cone is my favorite) for 3 points, a small squirt of caramel sauce for 1 pt, and a Tb. of fat free Cool Whip (I don't usually indulge in this chemical concoction, but it was in the fridge leftover from the holidays). It was so indulgent delicious and just enough.

I've also made sundaes from WW ice cream sandwiches. Cut them in half horizontally, top with a half cup of crushed strawberries and a small dollop of Cool Whip Free. I'd be the first one to tell you NOT to eat that terrible cool whip stuff, but sometimes, when you need a splurge, it is nice.

2011 Questions of the Day- Team Donald!!

Sat 1/1/11- How did you ring in the New Year?
This year was a quiet ring in. We spent New Year's Eve evening with just a few good friends with coffee around a fire, while the kids played the Wii. New Year's evening, we had a "New Year around the world" dinner party. I cooked and served several traditional dishes from different cultures around the world.

Sun 1/2/11- What are your hobbies?
I am very artsy fartsy and crafty. I love to cook and bake. I cross stitch and sew, among other things. I dont know if I would classify it as a habit. But I am a walker in the Susan G Komen 3 Day for the Cure. 2010 was my first year and after the experience, Ill be a lifer!

Your New Year's dinner sounds like fun. What kind of stuff did you make?

I would love to hear more about the 3 Day walk. I've been so tempted in the past to do it, but I find the fundraising daunting. Is it true that you must raise at least $2k? I would have a hard time with that.... I'm terrible with fundraising!!

I gotta say Bob inspired me today while watching BL(I watch on Wed on Hulu because we don't have cable or a box to get basic tv even). I already did my Jillian's 30 Day Shred this morning, walked 10 minute brisk walk to bus stop and just completed 20 minutes of Bob's Yoga for the Warrior AND the 15 minute yoga abs on same dvd. OH my goodness. I don't know how many times I yelled out "BOB". Some of those moves I struggle with because of this large thing in front of me called a belly. I just wanna get it shrunk down some. :sad2: Also with hulu I don't get long "commercials they are about a minute but most of them I did something. Leg lifts on one, push ups on another to show dd how far I've come then I did those training things where you would jump back to like a plank pose then forward then all the way up. I can't do the jumping really same reason as above but I stepped it out a few times on 2 breaks.

I did some major workouts today. Now hopefully I don't see a gain from muscle growth. :thumbsup2 Whew. Now I'm off to the shower because I have to go out in the world to do some shopping. :upsidedow

You were reallly moving!! Nice job. Jillian's 30 day Shred really puts me in my place!!:rotfl:

 Had a busy day. Went and bought tickets to see Blue Man Group :cool1::yay::cool1::yay: I have wanted to see them for years and years and years. DH waited until last night to tell me to go and get tickets for this weekend. :sad2: I got the last 4 decent seats available. All the rest were obstructed view or we would have had to split up. I am so beyond myself excited! :woohoo:

I've always wanted to see them too. Let me know how it is!

Just popping in to say hello. I got 90 min of exercise shovelling snow but it's still coming down, so I'll get a little more exercise in the morning. My front yard is so full of snow, I hope we don't get any more storms till some of this melts.
I've got chili on the stove for dinner, and that will keep me on track the rest of the week.
DS is anxiously awaiting the automated phone call that school will be cancelled, but it's not coming yet. He just said I'm being so hard on him because I said he can't turn the tv back on until he's showered. He was supposed to shower right after shovelling and we came in a 5. It's a tough life.:rotfl:

I'm back to work tomorrow though, and my niece and nephew in the next town over already have school cancelled, so I won't have to worry about a babysitter if school is cancelled in the am.

We have school today. Late yesterday afternoon the kids were thinking they might get two days off, but about nightfall the snow stopped completely. oh well.

And what is it about boys and showers???

:welcome: Linds! Sounds like you have had a difficult journey, but we're glad you could join us!

I had my appointment at Fitness Together. It was nice. The gym is pretty small, but I really enjoyed the trainer. I had a trainer at 24, and sometimes we had problems with getting on the equipment because it was so crowded. I didn't dislike my trainer, but I didn't always feel 100% comfortable with him. I think part of it was working out so publicly. He also gave me one of the hardest routines of any of his clients because I tend not to complain, and I ended up burning out. I loved my old trainer, but I like this set up better. The only downside is you can't just go in on your own to work out. I also don't know how much it is normally since I am doing an introductory package.

The doctor's office I go to is teaming up with one of the grocery stores to have a FitKC challenge. They will be choosing three families in the area. Those families will get free nutritional and fitness advice as well as free groceries for 12 weeks. I have entered Aaron and myself, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we will get it!

OOOooohh... I hope you get chosen! That sounds really interesting... plus free groceries would be NICE!!

Come back here young lady!! :cutie:

Tonight, Justin (DS10) and I got all bundled up and did a 3 mile brisk walk. I felt like I could have done more but he was cold and ready to go home. Yesterday, I got a new pair of Vibram Five Fingers and wore them for the first time tonight. To say the least, I LOVE these shoes.

I went over on calories by a couple hundred - I tracked 1625 on sparkpeople. They're system has my goal set between 1200 and 1500 but I try to stay on the lower end of that.

Im still overall pleased with how the day went. Have a great night everyone!!

You got those silly looking shoes? They MUST be very comfortable, cause they are certainly ugly enough to stop people from wearing them if they weren't :rotfl: My mom has terrible troubles with her feet... maybe I should recommend these.

Good morning TEAM DONALD!

Busy morning here so I will post the QOTD and be back later for replies.

Something we were withholding made us weak, until we found it was ourselves.- Robert Frost

Who is standing in your way?

Imagine someone regularly tying small weights around your ankles as you try to climb a mountain. Doesn't sound fair, does it? But that's exactly what you can do to yourself, a little bit at a time, if you don't watch out. When you think of who and what is standing in the way of your dreams, it's easy to forget your own responsibility. Even the best of us can be guilty of unknowingly hurting our own progress. Procrastination, lateness, being disorganized, pessimism, not being honest with yourself, severe self-criticism, downplaying achievements, focusing only on weaknesses while ignoring strengths, keeping goals a secret, demanding perfection, giving up after a small setback--these are all ways you can make it tough to be (and do) your best. Smart systems, the right attitude, and a promise to keep going no matter what will make a world of difference.

1/13/11 Thursday QOTD: Who is standing in your way? And more importantly, what are you going to do about it?

Yep, that would be me standing in my way. Procrastination, disorganization, pessimism, self-criticism, demanding perfection -- guilty on all counts. But things are getting better. I don't stand in my way so often or I'm more will to shove myself and my excuses aside to keep moving toward my goals. And that is no doubt why I'm having a good challenge so far and will have a good year. :goodvibes

Well... mostly I am standing in my own way... although I could use the excuse lately that DH has been a bit in my way. The TM is upstairs in the bedroom and with him home on Disability, he has been sleeping in (he isn't a morning person anyhow).... and that is TOTALLY throwing off my morning workouts. By the time he is up and out of the bedroom, my mind is on to other things!

But, like I said, it is mostly me standing in my way.... my bad food choices, my exercise excuses.

Well... good morning all!! We have a bright sunny morning here. Like I said, it stopped snowing about nightfall. I did my final round with the snowblower about 4:30 pm. Kids would have enjoyed a second day off, but I'm glad we didn't need it. Plus snowboarding lessons today, and they would have been cancelled if school was called off. But it will certainly be a cold and windy day on the mountain!

I only got a few minutes on my scrapping table yesterday.... between three rounds of snowblowing and shoveling, 3 loads of laundry to fold, and a few games I played with DS, the day just got away from me. And here it is already after 10 am today and I still have so much to do... plus I have to leave here about 1:40 to pick up DS at school and then head to the mountain. And then I will do the crazy-driving, kid-taxi-ing thing until almost 9 pm.... thus ends my day! Tomorrow evening won't be quite so crazy, as DD is going to a swim team pasta supper and is going with another friend, so not much driving for me with that. But DS does have b.ball practice... then Saturday we have b. ball game and swim meet, and Sunday another swim meet.... sounds like a repeat of last weekend, huh??? Story of my life during the winter.

Well... I saved part of my breakfast to have a bit later, and now it is later! I'm off to enjoy my morning hot drink and a small bit of carbohydrate! Already had a 3 eggwhite omelet with sauteed broccoli slaw and roasted red peppers, plus coffee with a splash of almond milk. But when my day starts before 5 am, I get hungry again by now, so I've been trying to remember to split my breakfast into two parts.

I'm off for now..................P

Good Morning!! Today is a wonderful day! :cool1:

Plans for today - not much. Im going to break out the 30 Day Shred and the other Jillian dvds I have. Ive got 4 different ones, I think, but have only done 30 Day Shred.
If I have time tonight, Id like to walk again. However, I have got to go to the grocery store tonight. Ill try my best to work it all in but it may not happen today. My goal for walking is 3 miles 3 days a week so Im still good to go on that.

flipflopmom - I really really like the Vibrams. However, the store I bought them from didnt have my size and the sales clerk convinced me that the size bigger would be fine. Well, they're not. These shoes are very specific on sizing because they're supposed to form to your feet. So, Ill take them back today and hopefully get my $ back. Then Ill order what I need online. As for rocks and what not. I purposely walked in gravel and on rocks to see how they were. You can feel the rocks under your feet but it doesn't hurt at all. I hate wearing shoes. If I could, I would be completely barefoot at all times. I thought these shoes would be perfect for me and if they continue the way they were last night - Ill never wear traditional tennis shoes again.
Oh, and when I walk? Im not sure if your asking when during the days I walk or when is the 3 Day big walk. Because I am not a morning person, I do most of my walking in the evenings. During the weekends I like to go during the days when I can stay out longer and walk more miles. The 3 Day walk is the first weekend of November. 60 miles - piece of cake. ;)

QoTD: What/who stands in my way? Me. Im the only one that can move my butt off of the couch and I'm the one that puts the fork in my mouth. If I let other people and or things be my excuses, they will be. But the bottom line is I was the one that caused me to be the size I am and I have to be the one to fix it.

Speaking of size -- January 2010 I was size 24 and weighed 265. August 2010 I was size 16 and 203. Now Im size 18 and (as of yesterday) 226.

Zoesmama03 - what do you think of the 30 Day Shred? Ive done it in the past and I thought I was gonna die. After about a week, I really saw myself getting stronger and able to do more. Thinking Ill break it out again tomorrow.

I really like it. It can give me a great total body workout including strength in a short 20 minutes. I know I have gotten stronger in the last week and a half. :thumbsup2 Great job on the 3 mile walk. So great that you are showing you kids the importance of walking as exercise.

I am going to try a taekwondo class tomorrow night. Hopefully that will work for me. At least I can burn some energy off and I'm looking forward to the sparring eventually. I need the discipline and the flexibility. I think it will be good for me.

I think it would be a very fun way to get in exercise.

Good morning Donalds:goodvibes:donald: Most times I fall off the wagon completely, I use the weekend as my treat or cheat days and can usually get the extra pound or two off in a day or two of hard work. I may be getting too old to do that any more !!!

Thanks Melissa:hug: You always have good advice and it helps to know someone else has been through this. Hope I have the luck you did last Friday tomorrow when I weigh in!!!

Get in your last chance workouts and make wise food choices!!!
I know I will have it on my mind all day - I think I will step up the water today and see if that will help any at all tomorrow.

Shawnprincess:
You're welcome Shawn. Even this week when I've gotten on it seemed like it wasn't moving bu yesterday after my yoga with Bob before I got in the shower I weighed and was down 2 from last week but this morning its down about 1.4. So now I'm really curious to see what tomorrow will bring. I'm going to work hard to get in even more last chance workouts.

I've heard of it, and read that it works when I was looking for something to tighten up after my weight loss last year, but haven't tried it yet. I know exfoliation does work, so I'm guessing that would too! Stimulating new cell growth, etc. Let us know!
I will give my "review" of how it works soon as I can get one. I do try to exfolate with my loafh bar soap holder. I really need it on the under arms they already have some excess skin from pregnancy when my arms ballooned out with water retention from PIH(pregnancy induced hypertension that has stuck around with me :( ) and pre eclampsia. They returned to normal and my arms have never been the same. But health is definitely worth extra skin. I'm just very very afraid of surgeries.

1/13/11 Thursday QOTD: Who is standing in your way? And more importantly, what are you going to do about it?
I definitely can be the biggest one standing in my own way. I do a lot of procrastinating on just about everything I can. :( I think my family and friends can be a portion of who is standing in my way. I would probably be eating quite a bit different if I didn't live with my brother and try to make meals I know he will like as well. He has no ambition to try fish which I would probably make. But he does like to eat whole foods and fresh veggies when we can. If we don't have fresh I keep some frozen in the freezer usually. I bought some tilapia and I'm planning to make some on a night I make chicken or when he's having a hamburger or something. I really want to try this lime cilantro recipe for it. I think he'd like fish with lemon/limes. I never cared for it but got used to the occasional salmon with lots of lemon on it when it cooks. If it was just Zoe and I we'd be eating a lot less meat and more beans and plant protein. So maybe I need to quit being lazy and try out meal planning where I can combine the beef and chicken he likes from the side or something. The big issue was cost of doing that was higher.

My friends can stand in the way by offering me soda when I really just want and need some water. I need to learn to just say no thanks or may I have water instead.

QTOD - I am definitely the one standing in my own way. First of all, I get LAZY! Yes that's right, I can admit it. I am lazy. I make too many excuses to not work out because I just don't feel like it. I also give in to cravings of bad foods because I just don't feel like fighting them. I'm working on it.
I will admit I can be lazy too. In everything and I think it goes with procrastination for me. I always say oh I'll get those dishes after my food settles. But it is often the next day. So that is one habit I got to break that isn't necessarily weight related. The one link is that if I didn't stuff myself so full sometimes I'd feel better to start the dishes right away. Which would help with the weight because I wouldn't be as likely to overeat.

Knowing the obstacles help find ways around them.
I really like this. I need to right this in my little WISH "journal" I got going on. And write a bit about it and read it once a week. It can help so much if you plan around the obstacles.

But I will not! I've got one more kid to take to school and my trick is, that if I dress for the treadmill before I go...when I come home, do not pass go, do not collect $200, do not sit at the computer or or on the couch but grab my water and hit the treadmill!
I do this too I put on workout ready clothes to take dd to the bus stop. That way when I get back I have everything on including my shoes. That was an old flylady trick I never could do because I honestly don't like wearing shoes in the house. When dd went the zoned public school last year(goes to a charter now) the bus picked up right in front of our house. I didn't need to put shoes on in the morning so I'd be lazy about exercise. Now I come home all ready so there is no excuse but laziness and I combat it most days.

Those that posted after i did the quote thingy.

phorsenuf,
Happy belated Birthday! I always miss this stuff somehow. I really do miss living in Lakeland. :( I wanna get moved back one day but I have to do it the harder way next time and get the job before I go.

pjlla,
One thing is dd doesn't like burgers and I really don't like the chicken nuggets they don't even look like real chicken. She orders fries about half the time and apples the other half. Sometimes she gets milk sometimes she gets a decaf soda of her choice(her rare treat when we make it out). Basically she just wants the toy or to play in the play center. We have been known to go for an ice cream cone and just play. She loves Subway too though. We haven't had the money to eat out so its not even a monthly occurrence for us anymore and it really helps my efforts some.

Yes Jillian kicks my butt with that Shred. But I think Bob kicked my behind more yesterday evening when I tried out the yoga dvd I got the same day. OMGosh was it a workout he had me sweating more than Jillian did in the morning yesterday. I'm thinking I may try out Jillian's Banish Fat Boost Metabolism today since I have not tried that one even yet since I picked these up.

Okay well since I haven't had my breakfast I'm off to tend to my workout so I can have some cereal after. Off to get my lemon/vinegar water first. Its not tasty but we cleaned the water cooler out with a solution with a bit too much vinegar and it still is flavoring the water a tad. It started dripping at the cold water spout out of nowhere on Sunday night so my brother took it apart but couldn't really find a reason for it. Whatever was causing it got fixed somewhere between the cleaning or taking it apart because its not dripping. It is only a year old but worried it wasn't going to be in warranty.

YEAH Team Donald!

As a new member on the team I am excited to be on here with such amazing people!!

My story: I have never been a healthy weight in my adult life and a broken leg in 2009 made things worse. I have been on the road to recovery for over a year and through PT I have learned to walk again (with the surgery I still have a metal rods with pins and a plate in my ankle). Unfortunately my balance is still off and the "hardware" in my leg still causes swelling and pain. As the new year began I decided that I need to get off my butt and do something about my health. So, I have set a number of small goals such as jogging/running a 5K this May and October, fitting into a skirt that still has the tags on it from 5 years ago, taking time to go to my book club, etc. All of these will lead up to my BIG goal.....running the Princess Half Marathon in 2012 :goodvibes While I know running 13 miles is a huge goal, I am up for the challenge!! I invite all of you to join me princess:

Yes, I too was having fun in the snow yesterday but being in a condo complex has its perks (snow removal!!) So, instead I went to the gym to meet my trainer. I only meet with him once a week for a half hour, but we do a great deal of strength training and he give me tons of help with my form. Well worth the money :)

I'm shooting for treadmill time at least four days a week until my leg gets stronger and it gets warmer out (walking in the cold is not my idea of fun!). I managed 2.7 miles without pain on Monday night and will shoot for 3 miles tonight. As soon as I feel pain I do need to stop so I have my fingers crossed that the leg doesn't give out!!

Team Donald: I challenge you to do two things today: If you do not have your goals visible, take 15 minutes to write them down (use fun colors and leave it on the refridge!) AND try a new, healthy food that you have never tried before (you never know if you like it until you try it!)

Have a great day and remember, the journey begins by taking the first step :yay:

flipflopmom - I really really like the Vibrams.

Check out my tag!!:thumbsup2

Welcome! Nice to have a new "face" here with us!! I've thrown out that challenge before to folks about trying a new food. What are you going to try?

My foods for the day are mostly planned already, but I'll check and see what I can find that might be "new". I did try plain avocado in a sandwich yesterday (usually just put diced avocado in salads) instead of guacamole.... not exactly a new food, but eaten in a new way... and I must say, I missed the guacamole. But I've got a pile of ripe avocados that need to be used up! Maybe I'll try making my own guacamole tonight (I usually buy the Wholly Guacamole 100 cal packs). ................P

My new "food" of the day is agave! My friend suggested to use this in place of sugar and apparently it works well on English Muffins (kinda like honey). I'm going to try it as a dessert with my lunch (half Fiber One English Muffin with agave). I'll let you all know how it goes :) :confused3

I am a big avocado fan! I like it on a turkey burger with a little salt to bring out the taste :) Guac is also a favorite but I tend to go crazy and eat too much in one seating....so much for will power! I should switch to the 100 cal packs for Wholly G...I usually buy it at Costco in bulk. Apparently the "bulk" is making me bulky! :rotfl:

QOTD 1/13/2011 Who is standing in your way? And more importantly, what are you going to do about it?
Me.. it's all me standing in my way. I choose to eat wrong, I choose to not exercise

What am I doing about it?
I am doing things I have never done seriously before: walking, trying to Jog,
NOT GIVING UP! tracking my food, Giving away :rolleyes1 DH's chocolate bars so I am not tempted. planning and preparing for crisis modes :) exercising, planning and again NOT GIVING UP when things go wrong.

I was so busy yesterday, it was bag grocery day where we do our food pantry.
I didn't even have time to check in here :(
I normally ate whatever I could grab or I didn't eat on Wednesdays, Yesterday I made time to sit and eat a nice healthy lunch. We have so many people needing help these days, It's hard to find time to eat. I learned to pack a lunch, get to work 15 minutes earlier, then I can make time to eat a lunch and not be starving at dinner time wehre I eat everything in and out of sight.

I :lovestruc Love tracking my foods on Sparkpeople.
Hi to everyone!! Go TEAM DONALD:cheer2:

Your New Year's dinner sounds like fun. What kind of stuff did you make?

I would love to hear more about the 3 Day walk. I've been so tempted in the past to do it, but I find the fundraising daunting. Is it true that you must raise at least $2k? I would have a hard time with that.... I'm terrible with fundraising!!

For New Year dinner I made several different things - black eyed peas and corn bread, roasted cabbage, lentil soup, grapes, soba noodles, shrimp, fish, pork, pomegranate smoothies and a king cake. That's all I can remember off hand. It seemed like a big jumbled mess but each dish had a special meaning in some culture. DS10 and I did this a few years ago - we let him have a New Year's Eve sleep over.

The 3 Day is by far the hardest thing physically Ive ever done - including child birth. Mentally it was difficult too - however I did the walk the week after my mother's passing and FIL passed away while I was on the third day of the walk. I originally registered and started training for the walk to push myself into getting off of the couch. I did it for selfish reasons. However, the more I learned about breast cancer (I have not been personally effected by the disease, thank God.) the more it has become a passion of mine. The weekend changes you. There really is no explanation of how moving the experience is. You walk 20 miles a day for three days. The middle of the second day, you're hot, tired and dont think you can honestly take another step. All you want to do is get on a van, go back to camp, shower and relax. Then you turn a corner and see a little, frail, bald woman sitting in a chair, all by herself, holding a sign that says "Thank You". At that very point you realize that you CAN and WILL do it - for her if for nothing else. Ugh, I have tears just thinking about it.

Yes, the fund raising can be difficult if you let it be. I didn't have a problem raising the money. I told everyone I was walking weather they donated or no - but if they didn't donate I would have to pay it all myself. I guess they all knew I was serious because the money just came rolling in. I didnt start fund raising until April of last year - I wanted to wait till we got back from Disney. I was spending to much time planning for that and knew I would be to preoccupied to plan for fund raising. This year weve already started basic planning and will have our first "event" the weekend before Valentines Day. Believe it or not, our biggest money raiser was with a booth in front of Walmart. We sold odds and ends and the kids just held buckets asking for donations. We paid for 1 and a half walkers with that event alone!

Ill dig up pics of my feet from after the walk - if I want to do it again after THAT - it must be a great experience.

Question for a couple of you -- how do I quote more than one post in my reply? Im corn fused. :confused3

OH!! And GUESS WHAT!! Were officially BOOKED for our next DW trip! Were surprising the boys with a trip this Christmas. They think were planning for Christmas 2012. I booked yesterday - with out DP knowing. She's horrible with money and I wanna see how much I can get paid off with out her knowing! Well be at Pop Century from the 11th through the 17th and then move over to AKL for the 17th and 18th. I wanted to have a longer trip but keeping it shorter was the only way we could work in AKL.:woohoo::yay::cool1:

Lindsey,

The "+ sign right next to the Quote button marks it(it turns reddish) and will have multiple quotes when you hit reply. I am trying it out because it is easier for people to pick out stuff that pertains to them but the other way I did was to reply in a new window because for me to delete out all the quotes in a quote can be tough.

My in box is empty and waiting on all of your wonderful weigh ins tomorrow! I did receive a weigh in this morning!

Welcome to all of our new comers!!!! You're in GREAT company!

REMINDER: Please make sure that you put your team name in your title of message to me to save me time! Also write your WEIGHT not what you lost though you may include that as long as you also have given me your weight! With over 160 of you now, the easier things are the better!

 Juggling 10 balls this morning and have already dropped a few so just dropping in quick to say hi.

DH hid the scale for me. Now I am dying to weigh in tomorrow and see what it says! My pants don't feel any different so I am not very optimistic.

Didn't get much water in yesterday. For some reason I was already running to the bathroom all day. I was out doing some things and kept having to stop, so I wasn't adding any extra water on top of that! Not sure if the previous few days just sort of hit and my body was flushing that extra fluid out or what. Feeling back to normal today.

1/13/11 Thursday QOTD: Who is standing in your way? And more importantly, what are you going to do about it?
Absolutely, without a doubt, Me. No one can do this for me, and no one can prevent me from doing it unless I let them. Only I can make the changes needed for a healthier me. I am making more changes than just my eating habits. I am working on other personal habits to make my entire self better. This is just one part and I am here to be accountable and to get support and use that to keep me moving forward.

We have almost a foot of snow. It's a whopping 1 degree here today, most of yesterday wasn't even above zero at all, and what I FEEL like doing is snuggling up inside on the couch with a bunch of warm yummy snacks and lazing around reading and clearing out the DVR.
.

Geez, I was sitting here feeling a bit chilly and thinking that I hate the cold. But it is a balmy 37 here so I guess I need to suck it up! It could certainly be worse.:rotfl:

:guilty: I'll go back and try to catch up. Things move so fast here it's hard sometimes. I've been working on some projects and I've been getting a bit burned out with all the computer usage.

I just wish for once though people would actually plan something instead of the "what do you want to do today." I always put so much thought into surprising other people with great days on their birthdays, for once I wish someone would do the same for me. Ok, whine over...

This is your accountability and support so it helps to try and check in at least once a day. Or I can just start plastering accountability and support messages all over your FB wall! :teeth:

Anyway....today was my WI day and..........I LOST.....2 LBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:woohoo: Way to Go!

Goodness! I need a nap just reading that! I do like staying active though even it just means going here and there. Especially in the winter it is so easy to just stay cooped up in the house and that isn't very good for my mental health.

Love the Wholly Guacamole packs!

I am planning to get the family to try parsnips next. Just have to figure out where to buy them! haven't seen them in the store.

Zoesmama you can always do it in another window and copy paste a part of their post with their name and then add the quote tags. You can highlight and then click the quote button (looks like a speech bubble, right next to the Image button) or type them in
text ]/QUOTE] (turn the first bracket the right way --have to do that or the code won't show up for you to see.

This has to be by answer as well! It's almost like you read my mind!

As far as what I'm going to do about it, I've started tracking my food and exercise on SparkPeople and trying to check in and participate here for accountability.

Have a great day Team Donald!

Yep I know. I just don't like doing tags. LOL I do them often for photo sharing and actually did this way on my last one where somehow the code got deleted when I was weeding out stuff that didn't apply to me so much. I don't know if I can keep up the multiquote. It is easier for me to just open the reply in new window and read than to skim add quote button. I may try your long route of doing my own codes it just won't link to the post I take it because the numbers after would do that.

See even in my re quote of your fake quote it messed up.

LOl! Well the even easier option that may help people to see that you are commenting to them is when you type their name just highlight it and Bold it.

I think I may start trying your way of opening another window to comment. I usually have about 3 DIS windows open anyway, and 3 or 4 others so one more won't matter and maybe it will help me keep from getting so confused as I an replying.

1/13/11 Thursday QOTD: Who is standing in your way? And more importantly, what are you going to do about it?

Uh, I'm the poster child for all of the above!!!

I am the master at Procrastination - Why do today what you can put off til tomorrow?!?!?
Solution: Shut up and Do it! Check it off your list. you love to make lists, and love to cross things off that list even more.

Lateness: yep, that's me too. It's the Irish in me. Day late and a dollar short. I've always said I'll be late to my own funeral.
Solution: Last year I learned my inner clock is set to 11 minutes after the hour. No matter what time of day it was when I looked at the clock it was 11 minutes after. I have learned to change appt times, meeting times, etc to work around that number. I don't make appt for 9:00 I make them for 9:15 or 9:30 etc.

Disorganized: coincides with lateness. If I were a kid today I would probably would have been diagnosed with ADD.
Solution: this is where my lists come in. I need them to keep my thoughts organized. I usually make my list the night before and keep it with me at all times.

Not being honest with myself: This one is odd. You know when anorexics have body dysmorphic disorder, where no matter what anyone says their brains have convinced them they are fatter then they really are?
I have to opposite of that. I'm very aware that I'm not thin but in my brain I am not as fat as I am when I look in the mirror. It's always a shock to me when I see it. Even in my dreams I'm not huge. I see myself in pictures (like the ones from yesterday running the snow blower) and I'm like god, I'm huge!
Also I tend to lie to myself and try to convince myself that one coke, or one cookie would be ok.
Solution sounds stupid but look in a full length mirror more often. I don't really look in the mirror, I mean really look.
For food, one of a bad thing is one of a bad thing!! At this point food has to be treated as an addiction. If I grant myself one cookie, I know it will turn into 5 or 10. Better to do without at this point.

severe self criticism: Oh boy, when I do look in that mirror or see those pictures, Man I am so hard on myself which leads into a self defeatist attitude. I just butcher everything about myself which makes me want to indulge in some self pity and nosh out!
Solution: Don't know yet, I need to work on this one. Criticism has been an ongoing issue my whole life, stemming from my Dad. He'd be the first one to rip you apart if you failed miserably but would not, could not, acknowledge your accomplishments.

Downplaying achievements: see above, learned behavior. I wasn't worthy. Middle child, only girl. Far from perfect. the screw up. No one else acknowledged my achievements why should I.
Soultion: don't know yet either. Guess the 2 things that go hand in hand need the most attention.

focusing on weaknesses, keeping goals a secret: again see above. Nit pic the bad stuff. don't tell anyone your goals because they will wait for you to fail.
Solution: Well I did the first one, I told people my goal is the WDW 5K. Now I need to live up to it.

Perfection: HA!! Yeah not perfect, so I'm not so worried about that!

giving up after small set backs: yep, do that too. Thats where the self defeatist comes in. See, See, I told you you were going to fail. HA! You proved me right.
Solution I have to have that talk with myself. Everyone has set backs. You fell off the wagon but the wagon slowed down to haul you back up. Jump back on and keep riding.

Whew, didn't mean to write a book. But I'm really liking the questions. It's my journal of sorts. I'm gonna go print this out and paste it in my journal.

Thanks Lisa!!!

It's http://www.ea.com/games/ea-sports-active-2 EA Sports Active 2. It's got a heart monitor and it's wireless. So far I'm really liking it.:cool1:

Thanks - I have a Wii - and often looked at it in the store.

Good morning TEAM DONALD!

Busy morning here so I will post the QOTD and be back later for replies.

Something we were withholding made us weak, until we found it was ourselves.- Robert Frost

Who is standing in your way?

Another one who is standing in their own way. I'm guilty of not being honest with myself, severe self-criticism, downplaying achievements, focusing only on weaknesses, keeping goals a secret, demanding imperfection, giving up after a small setback. What am I doing about it?? I'm coming to this board daily, I am wearing my Bodybugg everyday, downloading the information everyday, tracking my food as accurately as possible and not leaving anything out. I told a couple of people in my office what I am doing (something I normally don't do). One is out having the gastric bypass surgery and another is looking into it. I was told I am wasting my time that diet and exercise don't work. So I have posted my weightloss on a board in my office - I have another person participating too, I ran off a copy of the results of Team Donald and highlighted my name at number 7 LOL and hung that on the board. I have quotes from Bob and Jillian on the board. Did I mention they hate the BL even though they have never watched it. LOL I'll show them!!!! :rotfl2:

Good Morning!! Today is a wonderful day! :cool1:

Speaking of size -- January 2010 I was size 24 and weighed 265. August 2010 I was size 16 and 203. Now Im size 18 and (as of yesterday) 226.

Thanks for sharing, I am currently a size 26 and the road ahead seems awfully long. It's inspiring reading about others success!!! One step at a time.

Thanks - I have a Wii - and often looked at it in the store.

I'm also loving the EASA2! I like the variety and that I can also make up my own workout. The only thing I don't like is having to set a new goal each week! I forgot on Monday so I have to do an extra workout this week! My DD2 was having fun doing it with me this afternoon! The only exercise that I have trouble with so far is the mountain climbers! I had to delete them from tonight's workout. I'm doing the 9 week program. I hope I can actually stick with it this time until the end. I have my workouts set for during the week and that way I can make one up over the weekend if necessary!

Just a reminder about sending in your weigh in tomorrow! Don't forget to put TEAM DONALD in your title!

TTFN :tigger:
