Team 8 Jessica's Rabbits Bios and Info

Hello Everyone and Welcome Morgan

What part of Texas are you in? We lived in Austin for 7 years in the 1980's and our daughter was born there. The odd thing is she works for JP Morgan in Boston and on Wednesday their work group was told their whole group was being moved to Dallas sometime in the next year. She may be moved to another group here, or she may be asked to move there, so she literally could be returning to her home state, 23 years after.

I have the data up to here input. The odd thing is March 31 is Monday, so I also need from everyone what they did on March 29, 30, and 31. If you could give me the usual, miles and hours in decimal form, I'll add it to the final week's tally and that way March will be a correct total.

I would request that everyone give me both miles and hours in decimal form from now on. Sadly I am beginning to get overwhelmed with the amount of data that I receive in different forms from different folks, and it is starting to take a fair amount of time for me to aggregate all the information and get it into the master sheet. Anything you all could do to help me would be greatly appreciated.

It's good to see everyone still making good progress. I was a sick as could be for 3 days last week, but had a nice run and bike/weight session at the end, so perhaps I'm out of the woods there. Thankfully the sickness was now, and not before the May 4 race.

I do need to get outside (today = 38 degrees but 30 mph winds and brutal wind chills) so I can again feel what 9 mpm feel like on the track. I need to be careful in mile 1 of the 15K so I don't blow out an 8:10 mile and then end up sucking wind at the end.

Best to all

Craig

Hi everyone, sorry I am late posting I have a 5K tomorrow and I have been busy trying to do my grad school work so I dont fall behind too ;)

Miles - 9.3
Time - 107 minutes (is that how you want it?)

I did three days this week, including running on Sunday after baking all day!!!

I am also doing a 5K on the 30th, tomorrow, but I will post my time after for you.

On a personal note - I have been having bad neck pain and went to a spinal dr., only to be informed I have to limit my running until I have the results of my MRI and if and when surgery is ruled out. Which means no more than 4 days a week, and no more than 3 miles at a time. My goal is only to do 3 days and see how my neck feels before I do a 4th day. I will keep you posted, but for now my distance and time is limited. Thanks for understanding

Good morning everyone! :surfweb:

I had a good 6 mile run yesterday despite very cold windchill. We have a brook path that in most places is fairly sheltered and that helped. In the non-sheltered areas, the wind was really cranking and it was cold. I had on several layers of underarmour so I was good to go. Depending on which way I was heading, my hands even got hot enough to take off my gloves. The brisk air did wonders for sleeping!

Swim-mom: hope the 5K went well today! Let us know how you did.

Calcio: glad you're feeling better!

Erin: let me know if wearing capris and other spring clothes helps to speed up the coming of spring. I'm boycotting turtlenecks as I am just tired of wearing them. We bought pansies and violas yesterday and I now have 2 very pretty pots of panies in the house. I'm doing everthing I can to pretend it's spring. Outside right now it is gorgeous, sunny, high blue sky and COLD! It is 30 with a windchill of 26. If I can find other ways to complain about the cold, I'll let you know!

But I digress.......

Special shout-out to my friend Judy to feel better! The flu is running rampant and she's come down with it.

Happy training everyone!

Hi everyone!!

I did my first 5K race, since starting C25K for the third time in January (by the way I can now run the whole thing!!).

First the weater - sunny and very very VERY windy, to the point where your eyes were running from the force of the wind.

Results - I ran the whole thing, and clocked in at 34:47 minutes a new PR for me :cool1: :cool1:

I ran with KIMWIM and her friend and they too had great times, 33:57 & 33:58.

I am happy it is over, but I will keep running until my next one!!

Calcio- I am actually from the DFW metroplex, in a city right in the middle called Arlington (you'll know it as the Home of the Texas Rangers baseball team, and soon to be the home of the Dallas Cowboys!!). Wouldn't it be a hoot that she was living near me? A JP Morgan Chase story... In high school, my church choir took a trip to NYC. We went to a Mets game, and there was a sign for JP Morgan Chase. Of course, one of my good guy friends' name was Chase... just HAD to take a picture!

OK... sorry for the stupid story.

Today is my long run. I'm going for 4 miles in my new shoes, and new running skirt and singlette today. We'll see how it goes. Its in the upper 60's and lower 70's today, with a humidity of a million percent! What a time to have weather JUST LIKE reports of last years marathon! Dad's LR today is 12 miles, and he's pushing for < 2 hrs. He's so awesome! We ate a light lunch after church today, since mom's sick.

I have no minutes to give as of Thursday, since I was at work. I called in sick last night, because I cried at work. I am so overwhelmed by the way my nurses treat me (I'm a fairly new nurse that has been pulled into the charge nurse position)! I just had it, and basically let my emotions become the best of me last night, and cried in an empty patient room. Talk about embarassing. I plan to run my feelings out today.

Ok, sorry for the crazy stories today! Congrats to all those racers this weekend! Our 5Ks pretty much start this week or next week. I'm so excited!!

Can't wait to hear from everyong this week!

Hi Team! It’s so good to see all of you posting on here! I know our team’s been pretty busy with “life” lately, and I was surprised to jump on and see so much activity. Work is slowly starting to calm down slightly, so I may actually get a chance to post here more often. By the way, Krista says HI and she’ll try to post later on.

I’m going to try to catch up with you guys here, but let me post my miles/hours before I forget:

55.5 miles
7.25 hours

Swim-mom—WTG on the 5K! Congrats on your first one! You’re hooked now, right? :) And great job for sticking with the training program!

Morgan—WELCOME to the team! It’s a great group here, so (hopefully) you’ll enjoy us. If not, it’s Scott’s fault. He’s a strange one. We’ll just blame him. :) Hope things get better at work for you. And congrats for making the 2009 marathon your goal. There will be a lot of us there to cheer you on race day!

Jeff--hope work slows down for you. I know what you mean about it being crazy lately. Tell the family Krista and I said hi!

Martha—nice job on the 6 miler. Sounds like the wind was brutal. I’m glad you’ve managed to stay somewhat healthy with your sickly husband spreading germs everywhere!

On the same note, Craig—glad you’re feeling better. Glad your last workout went well. How are things in your world? Haven’t talked to you in awhile.

Teri—3 years of Runner’s World for $6?? Did I read that right? Wow, I need to start bargain shopping with you!

Liz—I hear you about hoping the weather cooperates for biking outside! I’ve had about enough of the indoor trainer.

Erin—glad to hear that you’re still alive and kicking! Hope work and school slow down a bit for you. Good luck with your half marathon next week!

Scott—man, nice job on the miles and hours! I’m glad we have you to anchor the team!

Amy—ditto on the miles, and can I just say that you are NUTS with the total hours! Consistently, week after week. You amaze me! One question for you—do you teach a spin class or just attend? I was thinking you taught one, but I can’t remember. Either way, can I vent about my spin class instructor for a second? She said we were going to push it extra hard this week, with more hills, etc. So I’m thinking, “Ok, I’m cool with that. I could use a tough session.” Well, what she meant was that WE were going to push it extra hard, and she was going to take it easy. Every time we did jumps or hard seated climbs or high cadence spins, she got off the bike and walked around to “check” on everyone. I realize she probably has about 15 of these classes a week, so she can’t go hard every time, but I still wanted to say, “Who is this WE you speak of? Is there a mouse in your pocket?”

Well, I had a pretty good race today. It was the Heart Mini Marathon 15K in Cincinnati, which is kind of the spring “warm up” for the Flying Pig around here, so it’s a pretty big race. I had been training to run with my cousin from NC, and he is generally faster than me, so I had been pretty diligent about my speed work, etc, leading up to the race. Well, at the last minute, he found out he would not be able to come up for the race. So I ran it alone, but I told him I’d try to push it hard for both of us. So I pushed it. And.... I PRed! 1:13:43 for the 9.3 miles. I was pretty excited! I definitely feel like I’ve run a hard race, as my legs have that “heavy” feeling that never happens after a regular training run. But yeah, I was pretty happy. And I couldn’t wait to get on here and tell you guys.

I hope everyone’s having a great weekend. Great job on the weekly totals, all! Everyone is doing a great job, especially with the cold temps and winter conditions still. If I don’t get on here for the next few days, everyone have a great week and I’ll talk to you soon!

Steve

WOAH Steve...HOLY COW!!! MEGA fast pace for the 15K. CONGRATS :).

As for your spin instructor....I'm not sure that's a great idea to not be doing it with the class...not sure how they'd get a feel for the actual intensity unless they've got a lot of experience. I know that the Johnny G instructors I've had never get off their bikes...but it wouldn't be bad if they did come around once in a while and check form etc. However...LOL...to bail on all the tough stuff is pretty funny! I love the idea of the mouse in the pocket!

Thanks for the comment on my hours....it's a combo of teaching a lot and having access to a lot of free classes LOL! ;)

Scott: You rocked the Half today. I AM SOOOO Proud of you!!!

Morgan : Hope you had a good LR today :)

Swim-Mom: CONGRATS on an awesome race!!!!!!!!!

Amy- my LR today was a disappointment to me. Even though I am only starting out, about 3 weeks total, my approx 4 mile run took me 56:38. I am very disappointed. That is only a 14 min mile. That WILL NOT cut the marathon. I dragged the last half mile today, changing from my usual 2:2 run:walk ratio to a 2:3, which I wasn't happy about, but it was so HUMID!! That really killed me. Not so much used to it.

Another thing that really messed me up, and I HATE to admit this, but I happened to have my mouth open, and a bug flew right in it! Went down my throat! How horrible is that? I heaved and everything! Oh my goodness I just wanted to die. Its funny now, but that really messed me up, especially my mindset. Another was my new shoes. I only had one other time out in them. They're great, but they aren't a great fit (the best fitting out of all of the 20 I tried on), and I tend to tie it too tight, and then my big toe goes numb, so that bothered me. I adjusted it twice. I got so disheartened with my time about half way through, that I nearly started crying, and wanted to give up. I feel like I won't get any better! I keep trying to be positive, but this was a horrible LR for me. I feel like I will NEVER get to finish the Marathon. I know I have many months to go, but I'm one of those immediate gratification types. I want my body to be able to do it... and to do it now!

Ok, boy, I am a whiner! It must be PMS or something. I felt good once it was done, but I know I need to do better. My shoes are a problem, but I am going to try to find some socks for the problem (today it was rubbing a whole in my arch!). I will try body glide next time, and I got some arch supporting socks to help in the area, and also some "blister buster" socks to try as well.

Another thing w/ the Body Glide. I put it inbetween my legs where my thighs rub together, and I didn't really feel a difference. Did I not put enough on? I'm not sure. I will try it again. I got a running skirt with shorts at Target the other day to try, and the shorts rode up (of course). I saw that we can get a discount on those running skirts, anyone with the experience with the compression short version? Anyone with bigger thighs notice they ride up, or do they stay in place?

Sorry to whine about everything, but this is new to me. I have so many questions its ridiculous!! I hope I don't test your patience!

Swim mom: :thumbsup2 Awesome job!! You should be most proud of your effort. Are you going to be at the Minnie Marathon in DWD in May? I'd love to meet you.

Disneydudet: so sorry you were not happy with your effort today. The bug story sounds yucky! I've had that happen and it does mess up your gait. I hope your next run is better.

Steve: as a former Spin instructor I must defend the practice of getting off the bike. I know it's not great as a student to be busting your butt when the instructor is not doing the same thing. But, when they are doing the same thing you are with the same intensity, they are not paying the attention to the individual members of the class that they need to. The class is to be taught by the instructor; the instructor is not a participant. As an instructor, I could better gauge how the students were doing if I was off the bike rather than concentrating on doing the workout myself. It may not make sense as a student, but it really does make sense as an instructor. OK, lecture over.

I made the most decadant chocolate cookies I've made in a long time today. Cocoa powder, bittersweet chocolate chunks and dried cherries. Yummmm!!

Have a good evening everyone!

Well, I had a pretty good race today. 1:13:43 for the 9.3 miles.

Good lord dude...holy smokes...SMOKIN' TIME STEPHEN!! And it was just a "pretty good race" :rotfl:

Seriously, that was an awesome pace...way to go!! (I'd do the little pom-pom cheerleader thing but I'd be a little insecure doing that for another dude...Krista, next time you post can you do a little pom-pom cheer for him since he deserves it? thanks in advance)

Now I know what "busy with work" means...you are secretly out there doing speed work so you can crush race times...:thumbsup2

Um, Martha...were you aware of Section 21, Page 4, Chapter 5, Paragraph 3 of the Jessica's Rabbits Code of Conduct???

Allow me to reproduce it here:

"21.4.5.3 - Any team member who makes decadent cookies and then posts about said cookies must then proceed to mail a generous sampling of them to each current member of the team. If there aren't enough to mail to each team member, a sampling should be sent to ScoJo15 for review."

:rolleyes1

Scott: :rotfl: You are TOO funny!

Martha: OK...I have to say that makes sense to me. I am not a spin instructor however, as Pilates instructors our training dictates that we do not take the class otherwise we can't correct form. I'd assume with spin it would be the same thing now that I think about it. Surprisingly I have yet to encounter a spin instructor who DOES walk around and check form. I suppose they use mirrors but I sure wouldn't mind someone checking my overall form. Form is key in pilates...and it's a big part of cycling too. So Steve...I defer to Martha on this one :). You were probably an AWESOME instructor Martha. Now I'm wondering if my students are mad at me when I teach a tough pilates class and walk around checking form the whole time! ;) <edited to add: during the classes where I do not participate at all...I do not count the hours toward the team competition...just wanted to make that clear LOL...in case our competitors question me!!!>

Morgan: It's totally ok...tough runs happen and new distances sometimes hurt. Just keep putting those steps in....first hit the distance or time...the speed will come. I promise you! As for the compression shorts...I don't actually wear them b/c I find them uncomfortable. Have you tried running skirts yet? I know a lot of people LOVE them!

Hi there! For the extra 3 days totals, i have the following:
(in addition to my previous post with totals)
4.0 Miles
1.0 hours

Seriously, that was an awesome pace...way to go!! (I'd do the little pom-pom cheerleader thing but I'd be a little insecure doing that for another dude...Krista, next time you post can you do a little pom-pom cheer for him since he deserves it? thanks in advance)

LOL Scott! Maybe we can just do a chest bump next time I see you. Or better yet, like the new Bud Light commercial where the guys are in Vegas, we can just give each other a "dude" and a nod. :thumbsup2 By the way, how did you half marathon go?

Marth & Amy--ok, ok. I guess I'll yield to your expertise on the instructors and spin classes. I know you're right. But at the time when I was busting my butt in the upper zones of my heart rate and she was walking around saying, "oh, watch that hand position," I had a few other thoughts going through my mind. ;)

Morgan—don’t sweat the bad run. Like others have said, it will happen. I can remember some absolutely horrendous runs when I questioned why the heck I was even doing all this nonsense. But trust me, you’ll look back on those types of runs as character-building experiences. And funny enough, if you’re having another tough run or race, you’ll most likely reflect back on those awful runs and how you pushed through them even though you felt like quitting. That’s the stuff that keeps you going. Good job on finishing!

Martha—where are the cookies? How nice of you and Craig to invite us all over for cookies! We’ll be right over. :)

Have a great Monday, everyone!

Steve

My three day totals are 4 miles in 56 min 38 sec.

I won't run today, as I had some lung pain last night, and I'm not feeling too well today.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

My totals for the last week of March

20.7 miles
5.42 hours

Craig - :thanks: for being our team captain and taking the time to enter all of our miles/hours into the spreadsheet. I find it difficult to find the time to read and post - I'd never be able to keep up with everyone's data as well. I finally looked at the spreadsheet today and my numbers from the week ending 3/7 were not added. I'll repost them.....

27.5 miles
4.47 hours

Steve

Wow, without getting out the calculator, that's under 8 mpm for 15K. You sure have been doing your speedwork. I'm glad you won't be at the Minnie 15K, since you'd blow my doors off.

Also I have to tell you every running PR I own was from the first 2 years after Lesley was born. I'd get home from work and do my Daddy duties, and then head out running about 9 p.m. I don't know what it was, but I was able to really focus and drive my training and fitness to new levels. You are doing so well now, who knows, you may be facing better and faster results in the next few years.

And for Krista, when Lesley was nearly 2 years old Martha was also really fit, to the point we ran the Austin Jingle Bell Run 5K in December. We ran shoulder to shoulder for all 3.11 miles, and she came in under 25, her own 5K PR. Maybe Krista has that in her future as well.

Thank you Kathy.

If you see I've omitted anything, please remind me delicately as you have done. I apologize for oversights and appreciate you all giving me information.

I am going to need some help in the last 10 days of May and first 20 days of June, as I'll be overseas for the duration. I also suspect I'll ask if anyone can assume the throne beginning September 1, as I'll be doing 2 full time jobs in the fall semester, and suspect I'll struggle to stay above water. But until then, I'll do what I can, and thanks for the support.

And yes, Martha's Chocolate/Cherry cookies are wonderful, also large and calorie-laden. I want to be lighter for Minnie, but if she keeps baking and I keep eating, it isn't going to happen.

Craig

Interrupting your bunny thread with a note to Craig...

I have a phone interview on Wed for a drug information faculty position at the new pharmacy school here!

Martha...would ya share the recipe for the magical chocolate cherry cookies?

Swim-mom—WTG on the 5K! Congrats on your first one! You’re hooked now, right? :) And great job for sticking with the training program!

1:13:43 for the 9.3 miles.

Hi Steve - I am hooked on the races, I will never be the fastest but I like seeing if I can have a better PR :) I don't have any plans for another one, but I have to talk KIMWIM into it too, but she is doing the Minnie so I may be on my own in April/May.

I have to say congrats to you for your PR too, that time is amazing..........one I will dream about, but never have (which is OK too)

Swim mom: :thumbsup2 Awesome job!! You should be most proud of your effort. Are you going to be at the Minnie Marathon in DWD in May? I'd love to meet you.

I would love to do the Minnie, but being in Grad school and my course work does not mix well together. I am hoping to do it next year, or even the 1/2 in 2010. However, my first goal is to get a job :) then plan another disney trip!!

Martha...would ya share the recipe for the magical chocolate cherry cookies?

Martha, I too second that thought..........magical cookies.....yumm....:woohoo:
