Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Ok, now this is supposed to be a family-friendly forum. I guess now we know why Dave is Hakuna Matata -- he doesn't have any clothes to worry about!:goodvibes

How is everyone doing? Are we off to a great start? DH and I both did 4 miles yesterday. It was his first workout since the Half, thank goodness I have something to prod him with to get him going again!:rotfl:

Jeanne -- Thanks again for being our captain. We need someone to keep us in line!:thumbsup2

Debra -- I am going to sit down and do an overall goal list like you did, I think that is a great idea. My problem is that I'm not focused enough. Anyway, I accept your challenge. I am going to add strength training 3 times a week for this month. Today is my first day, wish me luck!:wizard:

Jen -- Thanks for agreeing to be our co-captain!:dance3:

Tiberius -- You get points for being a great support for that race!:cool1:

Mel -- Did you set some awesome goals yet?:surfweb:

Denny, Corinna -- Thanks for playing with our crazy Family!

Ok, off to try to do another post or two before a meeting.

Good thing I'm only resembling an employee today....:rotfl:
Maria

yes, Maria, I think I have to find out who is the team captain for Hakuna Matata and file a formal harassment complaint! :lmao:

Oh my gosh, I totally got put on the perfect team! You're all into scifi? Really?
My name's Vanessa, and I've lived in PA for all 27 years of my life (though I moved from the Lehigh Valley to Philadelphia to be with my DH)
I *never* enjoyed working out, but I used to at least go swimming and boating and stuff throughout the summer; ever since I got my desk job and moved to the city, though, even that's changed. So needless to say, I'm way overweight and terribly out of shape!

I drag DH to Disney just about every year, and we decided this year (when we got the 40% off pin code) to go in October to the Beach Club for our anniversary instead of to the Allstars in September for free dining. And then I asked a friend if she wanted to go along, and she and her boyfriend said yes, but only if we all ran the ToT 13K together while we're there. What a rough start to a relaxing vacation! But it was all the incentive I needed to get started with working out!
Anyways, I'm going to not be much help at first to Team Ohana (at least distance-wise), but I promise by the end of the year I'll be a big contributor!

As for the rest of my time, DH is HUGELY into science fiction and fantasy, so I get dragged to a lot of sci-fi and fantasy conventions (his revenge for my disney obsession!) and we spend a lot of time watching movies/reading books/etc. I don't know if I could say what my favorite series is; I love them all! But I think it's fantastic that this is the group I got put in!

Also I decided to go back to school, so on the nights I'm not working out, I'm at Villanova taking leadership studies classes (ya, that's a major - I love adult education =)) I'm HUGELY competitive, so I love that you all are talking smack already =) Hopefully soon, I'll be able to live up to the hype!

Welcome, Vanessa!:welcome: so glad to have you aboard! Don't worry if you are not in the best of shape right now......this team runs the gamut from triathelete to pooh-shaped, so you are bound to fit in just fine. In addition to sci-fi, I believe that several people on this team either live in PA or are originally from there. My daughter graduated from Lehigh University in '06 so I am somewhat familiar with that area.
You will love doing the Tower of Terror event. Many of us did it last year and will be back again in October. I think the time requirements are very liberal, so no need to worry.
Hopefully Dave(windwalker) has explained the rules. Basically you should post once a week (late Friday or early Saturday) for the week before (Saturday thru Friday, although this week has an extra day because we started on Friday). Workouts in miles count towards both miles AND hours. Other workouts like tennis, pilates, aerobics, etc.etc just count as hours. Got it? Any questions, just holler.....and welcome again!

That's so cool! I went to school at Cedar Crest College originally, so I actually marched in Lehigh's marching band for a while (Cedar Crest is all female, so...no need for a marching band ;))
I'm looking forward to participating, and hopefully getting to meet some of you at the 13K (though we're literally coming in that day, so I may have to meet you all AFTER the race!)
Thanks for the warm welcome =)

Jeanne,

I thought it went from Fri-Thurs? I thought we logged from Fri 2/1???

Normally it would be Saturday-Friday, but this first week will be Friday-Friday, with one extra day. At least that is how the master spread sheet is set up.

ALOHA Cousins!

I originally confusedly posted this on the miles thread. So...just relocating.

Welcome to Vanessa! I saw your post over on the C25K 2008 thread where I just lurk a little bit. popcorn:: I am a 2007 graduate, and went from zero to running 13K in just 8 short months and had a fantastic time. I look forward to reading about your successes!

So, on public radio a few weeks ago, there was an interview with a neurologist who has written a book on exercise and the brain. It's fascinating listening if, you know, you like that sort of thing.

And I am wiping myself out. I ran an "easy" 2 today, but after a very busy weekend, it wasn't as easy as I had expected it to be. Some days are like that, I guess. Only 5 more running miles this week......

Will it be a problem to report Sun - Sat? That is how I have it set up on BT and helps me to tally it up for the week....

Welocme everyone! I am excited about everything we are doing!

If anyone has any advice on getting faster on swimming let me know...I have read and watched everything I can...but I really am having a hard time doing everything in the water...In biking and running...you get faster by going faster, but swimming is mostly doing it right....AHHHH!:headache: At this point I do 100 yrds in around 2:????

It's just a matter of the right motivation. First find a shark....

Jeanne darlin, Just because I come over and offer advice doesn't mean our team is gonna have mercy on your scurvy hides.

Ok, so first we were "bare", and now he's talking about our "hides". I think this Panda needs a visit to Lands End -- we are not going anywhere near you without our parkas on! We are not that kind of Family!:rotfl:

And darn fine looking hides they are to pretty princeess. But Sweet lady it's the mischivous Jeanne that has been talking about running bare races and flashing Mickey to see if he will throw beads. I'm just the innocent bystander.

It is fat tuesday so it's ok to have the chilli cheese fries today, really it is.

Innocent as trhe new fallen snow Panda:angel:

Where are the men on our team when we need to beat somebody up? :rotfl:

C'mon, Jeanne - we don't have to wait around for a man to solve our problems, do we?

Keep talking, Panda! More time to TALK = less time to WALK!

And that's absolutely right about those chili cheese fries. And King Cake and maybe some beniets as well. No worries - here's a rolaids for you! Eat up!

Oh, and we don't want your slimy, bug infested mercy, anyhow! And don't let it get to you when you watch our "scurvy hides" leave your sad-sack-sneakers in the dust!

Thanks for stopping by! :)

I love the strength and fire of the WISH pretty princesses. You guys are gonna kick that Marathons butt in Jan 09.

Slinking off now Panda:hippie:

Vanessa: Great to see you over here on the chat thread. Wow, you sound really busy, but in a good way! It's so cool that we have so many sci-fi folks here, because now I can bore you with all my confessions. For instance, confession #1: I've watched all seasons of Battlestar Galactica while on an elliptical or treadmill. I downloaded the epis to my iPod to get me through training for the Goofy! And I'm really envious of you doing ToT. I really want to do it, but DH is still on the fence. (Schedule/budget more than any real resistance.)

Christa: No advice, as I'm a non-swimmer, but I wanted to know that I'm really impressed by your multi-talented self!

Maria, Corrina, and Jeanne: Didn't you just flash some sass at WWDave! Now, sass might not be quite what he was interested in, but it's a close rhyme! That's my family, the G-rated version! Y'all can defend my honor, such as it is, any time!

How's everyone on Ohana doing?? :thumbsup2

Yay, Corinna, go get him! (she's a mean one, Dave...be careful!)

Are you sure you are using proper form in the pool? I've seen people at mine with these paddles that go on your hands that make sure your hands are hitting the water and stroking correctly through. Also, swimming is a big upper body sport, so maybe some upper body weights would help, even push-ups or something like that if you don't have weights.

Corinna - YOU ROCK THIS TEAM!!!!!!

Christa - I am a weak swimmer, but do it anyway. I have been using a board lately to work on leg form. I hold the board and just work at speeding up my push. Do you need to work on the arm pull?? I pretty much suck at that, but at my Y they have these cylinder floaties that you hold between your legs. You don't kick at all, just pull yourself through the water with your arms. Does any of this make sense? If it doesn't, just ignore me!!:lmao:

OK team... I am a failure. No workout at lunch again. UGHHHH... but before bed I am going to do some balance ball work and gain some minutes for our team (and core work for me!!)

It's ok Jen you can just go to bed, you had a hard day and need your rest. You can make it up another day.
