Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Hey all... I am gone 4 days and Mel already started a ruckus!!! WAY TO GO!!!!:cool1:

So I am really behind on all the posts but hope to catch up this weekend. I am with Jeanne and would like weekly posts of mileage/hours... but if that doesn't work for you, then do what does. We don't want to lose out on miles. Between Jeanne and I, we can try to catch all the posts.

Jeanne - I understand that we are supposed to update the master spreadsheet. We can both monitor it so that it gets done. Between the two of us, we will be so on top of things the other teams will shiver in fear!!!!!

Oh and we so have Christa.... YAH for the evil queen. We have some great mileage people... I am so proud to call you family!!!!!!!

Corrina... are you from the Twin Cities?? I am in Central WI!! I would like to do a race in the Cities some time in my life. This year I plan to do the Madison (WI) 1/2 marathon in May.

Oh yes, I am from the Twin Cities. Well, not originally, but currently. There are lots of races here to choose from! I am considering the Heart of the City 1/2 marathon in Burnsville this year. But I may do the 5 mile fun run instead. And I am not sure how even to decide between a half-marathon and 5K at this point. Hilarious, right?

You know, I was thinking about the posting of miles and minutes on the thread, and don't know - I thought it might be fun to see the miles people were racking up, but of course we don't want that thread to get all cloggy - I wondered how it would work to have people post one reply to that thread and then just edit it each day of the week that they do something and then add it up at the end of the week.....you know, those that wanted to. Incidentally, is it Friday-Friday for the weeks?

I had a great shortie run today and then did some yoga....which is so pleasant, it almost feels like it shouldn't count. :duck: I did get my 9 year old son to do the yoga DVD with me, so that was nice.

Hey! I have been added to this team...I think...but my name is not on the list. Just let me know if I read something wrong.

OK! After skimming, I see I am on this team! :cool1:
So...this is who I am!
I am a 35 year old mommy of 2 beautiful DDs. I have a wonderfully supportive husband. He comes and cheers me on in my crazy race adventures...and has even done 2 WDW marathons and 1 Goofy with me.
Anywho....I am a child/teen therapist who has taken up running/swimming/biking to stay sane. I started running after my 2nd DD was born 7 years ago....now I have completed 7 marathons, and tons of other races. THis past September, I completed a century bike ride for MS...I am tri-ing tris now to get something different in the mix....I may be ADHD, but it's funny how as an adult, I am called energetic.:rolleyes1
I also dance and act....so I will be counting at least 2 hours of dancing every Sunday...b/c I have 2 shows.

So that is me and I am ready to start packing on the miles/hours.

Welcome Christa :welcome:

Welcome back Jen.

Debra--- My son went to college in the Pittsburgh area so I made many trips out the turnpike to visit that area. I'm glad you like the area.

Since being from PA and it being Groundhog Day it is like a national celebration. Sad to say that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and we are having 6 more weeks of winter. http://www.groundhog.org/prediction/

I put my miles and hours at the gym today doing ABs class, TM and even the recumbent bike.

Nancy

Yay, Christa! Welcome cousin!

Welcome back Jen...how was your trip?

Thanks for the rodent update, Nancy. DH asked me if I saw my shadow when I went to run this morning so I thought it was all about me ;)

Corinna...cool idea about posting our miles/minutes!

One question...if we only post once a week, will our thread get lost? If we post more frequently, our thread stays bumped up. We could still post a weekly total so the captains don't have to do all the math. I'm happy to do whatever works best for everyone else.

Good point Mel. But I thought someone said they were going to sticky the post. Also, I think the week should end on a normal week day, so on next Saturday we should have the tallies for a week plus the 2 extra for yesterday and today.

I really have no problem with people posting after their workouts. I can get through the posts pretty easily to get numbers.

As for my trip... well... So we left Tuesday morning early. Monday night their was freezing rain. I walked out in the drive way to load my suitcase..... right on my butt. And it hurt. Then we get to Chicago and it is 52 degrees. By 8pm that night it was -17 with snow and high winds. UNBELIEVABLE. Wednesday, more sub zero temps. Thursday we had to leave during rush hour and a major snowstorm. Made it to Madison, WI in 7 hours, which should have taken 3. We spent the night and ventured the last 2 hours home the next morning.

Yah, I didn't get any workouts in with that weather. BUT... cool thing was that the hotel was on the CDC course and it brought back memories as I walked 3 blocks back and forth during the week.

Welcome, Christa......Wow, your accomplishments are quite impressive!:welcome: and ...:worship: :worship: :worship:

Jen: If I could ask a favor, would you please edit the first post to include Christa(gatorphipps) and Corinna (corinnak). Thanks!

Went out for a little walk today (about 3.5 miles) It seems I have been unusually stiff ever since the marathon. The walking itself is fine, but starting up anything after I stop is a bit painful. Could it be....God forbid....old age?

Maybe we should schedule our team's victory party at Ohana...then we can all be cousins!

Go Team Ohana! Resistance is futile!

:thumbsup2 on both counts! And I'm sure the other teams will want to celebrate with us!

I

How appropriate that Team Ohana consists of so many people who appreciate aliens!:cloud9:

Maria

I didn't even think of it this way. Now I'm going to refer to us all as 626ers. And I seriously think our trash-talking tag line to the other teams should be "Resistance if futile!" (Snicker, snicker)

I'm so old I remember the orginal ST TV shows when they were first aired. I used to watch the show then. When looking at William Shatner today it hard to believe he was so skinny as Captain Kirk.

Go Ohana.

Nancy

And I think I'm going to refer to all the other teams' members as Tribbles. The trouble with Tribbles is they're EVERYWHERE! Good thing I secretly like having 'em around (but shhh, don't tell 'em).

OK! After skimming, I see I am on this team! :cool1:

Christa--Welcome & whoo-hoo! Glad to have you on the team!

Nancy

Six more weeks of winter gives me more time to make good on my promise to try more classes, before the sweet siren song of the outdoors lures me away from core work!

Two questions:

Are we keeping this one as our chat thread?

I'd like to keep this as a chat thread. One of the things I'd like to post, kind of in keeping with Corrina's sub-30 5K idea, is a list of monthly goals. I'm finding I do better when I make my goals public--it helps keep me accountable. What do the rest of you think? They could just as easily go on the miles/hours thread, as part of my post.

Corrina... are you from the Twin Cities?? I am in Central WI!! I would like to do a race in the Cities some time in my life. This year I plan to do the Madison (WI) 1/2 marathon in May.

Jen, I'm not from the Cities, but did my stint in Fargo (which I tried to convince myself was a suburb of the Cities). Their marathon is very nice, I think, and well-organized. They also have a cool costume Halloween race--I want to say it's 10K. Corrina, can you confirm?

You know, I was thinking about the posting of miles and minutes on the thread, and don't know - I thought it might be fun to see the miles people were racking up, but of course we don't want that thread to get all cloggy - I wondered how it would work to have people post one reply to that thread and then just edit it each day of the week that they do something and then add it up at the end of the week.....you know, those that wanted to. Incidentally, is it Friday-Friday for the weeks?

I like this idea for those who want to post daily totals. You could log your miles/hours in each day, but Jeanne & Jen would only need to look at your end of the week total.

I'd like clarification on the weeks, too. The spreadsheet suggests the first week of the challenge runs through 2/8 (Friday), which means the NEXT week would run from Saturday-Friday. But I know that team captains have the leeway to total miles/hours in ways that work best for them.

Corinna...cool idea about posting our miles/minutes!

Ditto. Whatever works for you, Jeanne & Jen!

Good point Mel. But I thought someone said they were going to sticky the post. Also, I think the week should end on a normal week day, so on next Saturday we should have the tallies for a week plus the 2 extra for yesterday and today.

I'm a little confused by the 2 extra? If the challenge started yesterday, shouldn't that be on extra day (Friday-Friday)? What am I missing, as I'm positive it's me, given my not-so-good head for numbers and tallies.

P.S. Welcome back, Jen. We missed you! And I'm sorry about your drive. It sounds like it was nerve-wracking & exhausting.

I actually volunteered at the TC Marathon last year. I was at the end of the race, stupidly handing out blankets in the heat. :sad2: There is a 5K the day before the marathon and a 10 mile the same day as the marathon, with the same finish line.

There are a couple of Halloween races with costumes - the Monster Dash in Minneapolis includes a 5K and half marathon. The Halloween Hustle in St. Paul is a 5K. I don't know of a 10K Halloween race, but I'm really extremely new to racing. Or maybe I should put that in quotes. I'm really extremely new to "racing."

Jen, I'm so sorry about your miserable drive. Glad you made it back safe, but goodness, that is a stressful way to travel.

I'll just plan to accumulate my hours and miles, and report in each Friday (or thereabouts):surfweb:

Keep up the good work, everyone.

Good point Mel. But I thought someone said they were going to sticky the post. Also, I think the week should end on a normal week day, so on next Saturday we should have the tallies for a week plus the 2 extra for yesterday and today.

I wasn't paying close attention, but I think it was decided not to sticky the posts because that would make our sticky list out of control. They'll be linked in the first post of the weekly thread which negates my comment either way. So never mind, our thread won't get lost, because I'll be keeping up with it! :)

I like the goals idea, Debra! I'll have to think on what mine would be for this month.

Off to post the weekly thread!

I can't believe I'm already behind again! Sigh. And I just have a few minutes before I must decamp for SuperBowl activities...

Anyway, I did four miles on the TM yesterday, and it was a struggle. My tummy is still sore, and it told me it wasn't happy...It took me longer than usual, which I guess is good and bad. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's walk, I'm sure I'll be much closer to 100%.

Before I forget, gotta shout out to Tiberius -- Who doesn't love the genius of Orson Scott Card? I'm a Valentine girl, all the way...

I'll plan to do a weekly post with our miles and times. So, forgive my slowness -- we are reporting on 2/1 - 2/8 this week -- Yes? Just want to make sure I'm getting it right!

Ok, gotta check a few more threads before kickoff.

Have a great night, Go Pats!
Maria

Good Morning, Family!

Jen: sorry to hear about your horrble road trip, but glad you arrived back safely!

I really don't care how you guys want to post your hours/miles. I think basically the chart is set up for Saturday through Friday (plus the extra day this week), but if something else works better for you it's all good. The main concern is to make sure it all gets posted one way or the other and we don't lose anything. Got it? Sometime on Saturday I will go over the posts and tally up everything for the week before. I think it would be smart to keep the chat on this thread and do the postings on the other one. That way I will only need to go through a handful of posts and not several pages worth. If anyone has any suggestions regarding how to make this better, easier or more efficient, please let me know.

Lets get those miles/hours in!

Maria

That makes a lot of sense since from someone with a picture of Belle in their avatar. Belle and Valentine are cut from the same cloth, aren't they?

I don't suppose I get to count the 8.5 hours I spent working in an aid station as a race volunteer towards this weeks time? I ran the main aid station at the start/turnaround/finish line overnight for the Rocky Raccoon 50 mile/100 mile race. It was quite an experience to see. I haven't yet gone past 50K (and that was a bit of a disaster!), but maybe one day....

I agree Jeanne - And when I posted my message before, I had not seen the chart yet because I didn't have access. Let me know if you want me to back you with the miles/hours or whatever. I don't want to accidentally step on your toes if you have it all handled! :goodvibes

Hi Team, is Jeanne treating y'all good? I don't know if you know it or not but she was abducted by Pirates. Of course she eventually took over and made them all get real jobs.

So please if she gets weird just bare with her.

Social Panda:hippie:

I originally came over hear to warn my family about the social panda whispering sweet nothings to the other teams, lulling them into complacency and encouraging them to save their strength. He's a sly one, he is. But I see he's beaten me to our thread. Just be careful--he can be very persuasive. Don't listen to him, unless he's telling you that WISHers are awesome!

Richard: Wow! That sounds fascinating. And you've done a 50K? I'd love to hear more.... I'll just live vicariously through you, though, as I don't see a 50K any time in my near future.

Maria: How's your tummy? I hope you're feeling better!

As for me: I'm just coming off my cold, which had to get better before it got worse. I managed to get time in this weekend, but the miles....well, let's just say I worked awfully hard for what miles I did achieve. The good news is, I'm feeling a lot better than I was and I'm now recovering.

FEBRUARY CHALLENGE, anyone?
The more I learn about Jeanne, the more impressed I am by how she keeps trying new things. So I'd like to repeat a challenge that Super Goof Lisa issued on the weekly thread. I think it would work well for all of us, especially me. I often have to be pushed out of my comfort zone. I'm gleefully liberating Lisa's words and give her full credit for her brilliance!

Here is my challenge to the Super Goof team. This month, I want you all to work on that one thing you have always wanted to add to your routine. For me, it is stretching before and after and even on my off days. I am adding in some yoga just to help my older muscles out a little bit. If you don't cross train, try adding some in. If you don't weight train, try that. I highly recommend the weight training. It has made a huge difference for me. Even if it is something as simple as adding more fruits or water to your diet. This month, I want everyone to try something new!!!!

Now I've already posted a list of goals over on the Lean Meaner thread, as I've got a LOT of room for improvement. But I think for the purposes of this challenge, I'm going to pick my flexibility goal from that thread as my response to this challenge. To meet my goal and challenge, I will either take a yoga class at my gym and/or pick up a new yoga DVD (it's been years since I practiced), probably a combination of the two.

If anyone else would like to take on the challenge, I'd love to hear what you plan to do or what your monthly goals are!

Good training this week. And for my fellow sci-fi fans, good hunting.

OK, Dave, I realize you're not the greatest with spelling, but you're turning Team Ohana into a moon fest! :scared1: (I guess it's my fault for posting the link to that nudie run in NC!)
