Doesn't it madden you...

…when you come across someone on the interweb who holds a VERY strong belief that something you KNOW to be true by profession, learning and so on, is just WRONG and you just don't want to have an internet shouting match with them?

I'm not saying that it happens to me all the time, that I have an event in mind or that I can never be wrong, just you know… it has happened and I'm sure it's happened to each and every one of you out there… we just bite our lip and find something more constructive to do online, right? I mean, what's to gain by trying to correct an internet hash tag?

Again, not saying that I am some kind of knowledge deity or that I am never wrong, just on occasion… you know.

Just to add, I can equally be on the wrong end of a "debate". I find myself drawing on an extensive spell in the College of It Stands To Reason and all I can do is either fight a losing battle, go down in a blaze of indignation or apologise and move on...

The thing that makes me angry is when someone online says your personal experience is false, a lie, or didn’t happen. For example, I once got a parking ticket on my car at the Contemporary Resort for “a cast member parking in guest parking” and was advised that my manager was being notified and if it happened again that my car would be towed. I did not, and never have, work for Disney. I just liked the steakhouse at the Contemporary and went there for dinner after work a lot. I mentioned it in a thread on another website where people were talking about whether cars could be towed from resorts and another poster was extremely rude and said I was making the whole thing up. I still have the parking ticket (I think it’s a unique “souvenir”) so no, it wasn’t made up. They started following me around the board from post to post insisting that anything I said about any topic was a lie. Even though I didn’t engage with them, it got so bad I left that board for good.

I didn’t argue with them or call them out on their behavior but I really wanted to, even though I am more of an “agree to disagree” kind of person. Unfortunately at the time that board didn’t have any way for me to post a photo of the parking ticket as proof. That, petty as it might be, I would have done.

You're kidding right? What a rude person, shouting you down like that!

*Defining this sort of thing as a debate is where you get it wrong. The "Might makes right," attitude is alive and well in a certain generation and they debate as if the winner or the last one yelling, owns truth, and that is not at all real. Winning or being loudest doesn't make a truth, but in some people's worlds they think it does. Seems like Kindergarten should have cleared that up but it didn't, I can't imagine living with it every day.

*I believe you with the random ticket and all, I got a ticket while visiting LA and asked the officer that looked like Jon from CHIPS to take a smiling photo with me and he did, still have it with the photo. I also believe there was a nutter who became incensed over you sharing the story. There are a lot of people who have made Disney a deity to the point I started to suspect it was a paying PR job because they'd weigh in and protect the image on the most bizarre things in a very, "Disney can do no wrong," sort of way. They still pop up from time to time swarming about oddball things. It is less now but there are still a few pockets, particularly on the Disability thread, such wackadoodle behavior.

Just commenting on the (tiny) bolded few words, reminded me of the Big Bang Theory, specfically Sheldon, who was having an argument with Stuart. It went on for hours, until Stuart said he was tired and was going to go home. "So I've won then!" said Sheldon. Thought it was uncannily apt.
