Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

WELCOME, AIMEE! :welcome:

Dave mentioned he was sending over another new member, Angelamamma, but I haven't heard anything from her yet....where ya hiding, cousin?

Jen: Sounds like you could really use a big hug...... Sorry your life has been so crazy lately. Keep the faith......we love ya, girl! :lovestruc

Mel: I hope you had a great birthday! I thought it was your 40th, but didn't have it in my notes, so i wasn't gonna say anything! Do you realize that makes 4 cousins that all turned 40 this year! Debra, Maria, Julie and you.
Wow, it seems the bulk of this team consists of newbie and vintage cougars. (just don't tell Dave!)

Any more birthdays on the horizon? It seems everyone on my original list was July or earlier. What about our new members? I know Ruth is November, but don't know the exact date.

I'm off to go post the miles for those that have already reported. Ruth, I have your minutes, but what about actual miles?

Robert/Linda: glad to see you guys are getting back on track.

To those, I missed.......:thumbsup2

Happy Birthday Mel :bday:

Welcome Aimee :welcome:

Johanna--- I hope everything went well with your 5K.

Debra--- Prayers for your Dad. You made a comment earlier about Stephanie Meyers Twilight series. I love those romantic vampire books. I am waiting for the new book "New Dawn" which is coming out in Aug and the Twilight movie which is to be out in Dec.

Jen-- Hugs to you.

Maria--- I'm currently reading "The Last Oracle" by James Rollins. I was really good with following WW last week and didn't lose anything. With decreasing food intake and exercise you would think that I could have at least lost a pound. Very depressing.

Christa--- Nice to see you posting again.

Hi to all my other cousins.

It was a stay at home weekend and got some things done around the house. Nothing else new to report.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

Hey Cousins!

Ok, one more day and I get my life back! My dad and his wife and my aunt are leaving about 6 am tomorrow. If this wasn't a total crunch time at work, I would take the day off. I adore my father, I am just burned out of having company. They have stayed 13 days...If it weren't for Auntie Dearest, they could stay a month and it wouldn't bother me. Let's just say she made a few comments one might consider rude, but she is 76, so what can you do? :confused3

I am very eager to get back to working out and eating right. My dh is actually agreeing with me when I say I need to get back to it, so that's a prety good hint I have ballooned as much as I should. :scared1:

Nancy - It is so frustrating when you do what you should and the scale doesn't move -- maybe you'll lose 2 lbs next week! I promised dh that by next Friday (my WI day) I will lose a pound. I just need to get started in the right direction. This Friday is a WI to get my baseline.

Jeanne -- I promise my miles/hours are coming. It will probably be Wed., but it will happen! ;)

Jen -- I think you are doing great, and you are very brave. You have so much going on, and you are still sane! Sending you :grouphug: 'cause we love you!

A big shout out to everyone else, have a great Ohana Day!
Maria

Hey Team - I did a 30 minute run/walk last night OUTSIDE, with my trusty running partner Sadie. She is almost 9 years old, so longer distances are a little rough for her. I have maxed her at just a little over 3 and by that time she is slowing down. Poor girl, but she loves running with Momma. It was HOT and Humid, but my mind needed to be outdoors. I look fear in the eye (and run in my neigborhood where I have houses everywhere).

Nancy - the scale is evil for me also. BUT, I have noticed that I just may be losing some inches. Check that out also. The scale never ever moves for me (which is part of my anger in life). Hang in there, something is bound budge if you keep it up!!

Maria - THANKS! I still remember my brief meeting with you at POP in January... MARIA... JEN... AHHHH!!!!!! Funny how the first time we meet someone it's like we have known them forever!

Mel - So what did you do for your 40th... anything wild and crazy? Come on fess up!!! I forgot to mention that I would do lots of things for good ice cream! I am not finalized on January because of changes to my work life, but I am working on it. If worse comes to worse, I may even look into a quick weekend trip alone... run... and leave. Hey if I can take the red-eye last year I can do this. Just gonna cross lots of fingers and toes. January is a rotten business travel time for me as I have lots of conventions.

OK, works is crazy... gotta run.

Thank you all for your thought! For my first 5K, I think it went ok. I finished in 43:12, 195 out of 200 runners. However, since it was a run/walk, I still finished before about an additional 60 walkers. My disgusting DH finished in 26:26...while pushing both kids, who are each 40+lbs, in the jogger. I couldn't believe it. I hae my sights set on another 5k in October. I am hoping that losing weight will help me to increase my speed a bit!

I hope all is well with everyone, and Debra, special pixie dust for your Dad.

Thanks everyone! :grouphug:

Nothing wild for my birthday, just dinner at Boma. DH got me the birthday button and the bus driver to MK had everyone sing to me. A security guard at MGM also sang.

Toy Story Mania is very cool! Much easier to do than Buzz.

I did get a hybrid bike for my birthday, nothing fancy, just one from Target. It feels so much faster than my old no-gear beach cruiser. And much more cougar-y.

Jen...oh no! You have to come in Jan!

Johanna...congrats on the 5K! my first was 44:59.

Debra...if they give your dad Lupron or one of the other anti hormone treatments, make sure they keep an eye on his bones. Our oncologists are pretty good about doing bone density tests in their prostate cancer patients but I'm not sure about other areas. Also, one of our prostate cancer docs is giving high dose vit D (5000 IU daily). I dont' usually recommend that much for osteoporosis folks but you might have him check with his oncologist and see what they think.

Don't know if I'll get back here before we leave so have a good week next week. I'm not sure how much running I'll do with my leg/foot issues, but we're going to be doing a lot of hiking. I'm going to take the garmin so I can get the mileage!

All by myself, I just wanna be, all by myself (if only I really could stay home alone today...)....:woohoo: My company is gone, and now it's on to getting back to the me I want to be!

I have meetings this morning and afternoon, so probably no DIS time. Just checking in to say popcorn:: is over and :cool1: is on! I just threw out the last of the chocolate chip cookies, and I counted the points in my lunch. I want a simple salad for dinner (after a lovely TM walk, if it's too hot to wog), and then a nice bath, and then off to bed early. All I have to do is get through today, and all this can be mine! :thumbsup2

Mel -- Dinner at Boma is the only ADR I could get DH to agree to for Marathon weekend. He doesn't want to be scheduled...hard to believe I married this man :rotfl2: My ds10 made a reading schedule for the summer to get all his books in. He literally has a chart with book titles and chapters. This is my child! :goodvibes

Johanna -- by the time I got to the Half last year I had lost about 15 lbs (yes, I was still not svelte at all). It does help you go faster when there's less of you, another reason why that's a big goal for me. :)

Jen -- I also remember POP! I did feel like I knew you, all this Dising just makes you close  I was overwhelmed at the POP meet. I am not really an extrovert, and it was hard for me to keep smiling, even though I wanted to meet everybody. I didn't know what was expected, but Dave gave me a giant hug and then it was easier to meet everyone! This year will be much better, since we have gotten closer to a small group due to the teams.

Ok, off to get cleaned up and then have time to post our miles/hours from last week! It's coming, Jeanne, I promise!

You are the only family I want to communicate with for a few days -- I love my cousins!

Maria :yay:

Maria: No, no, no. Plan Comic Con 2009. Just think how much those skimpy costumes would spur on OUR Lean Meanness! I'm a fan of Eureka, too. I also watched Eureka during the Goofy training, and will probably watch it again for marathon training. Cute, sci-fi, not too demanding of my attention, likeable characters.

Auntie Dearest?? Oh, my! That says a lot right there. I'm happy that you're able to reclaim your home and your sanity. (Not that you said they were driving you crazy....) Congratulations on THROWING OUT your cookies. I know I wouldn't have the strength. You are a wonder, woman!

Jen: It definitely sounds like you're making a comeback! :woohoo: Don't you just love it when you stumble on a fitness DVD at the library. It's almost as good as Christmas! It comes as no surprise to me that you're so touch mentally (let alone physically). Beyond the TM trials, your family situation is emotionally, mentally, and physically taxing--as your tests suggest. Just to keep everything in balance.... So one of the things I admire about you is how you've been struggling to come back to running and working out. You recognize how much energy and good stuff that it gives you, and you've made a commitment to getting back to doing more of that. (I think you did a great job keeping active even when you were struggling to do so, btw.) I also like that you're taking steps for a stronger core--add me to the list of people who need to work on that. So...tell us...how do you like your BL PowerSculpt DVD? :thumbsup2

Oh, and you presence is REQUIRED in January. I' not taking no for an answer. Like Maria, I'm an introvert, very reserved. I need people to draw me out of my tortoise shell.

Mel: I second Jen's call for a confession about your birthday? I forgot to send you a cabana boy, and so now I suspect you've acquired one of your very own. I hope you've not left yourself open to kidnapping charges. :lmao: I mean, I know you said it was a quiet birthday with Boma and some singing, but I'm sure there was something going on. Maybe inside TSM? (Nope, don't ruin it's G-ratedness for me.) Yay for the new bike--that's a great present! Thanks for the advice for my Dad. They haven't told me what he's going to do yet, but I'll be sure to pass it along to him.

Jeanne: New and vintage cougars. I love it. We've got a range of models, all ready for for the showroom. That's us, isn't it?

Nancy: Thanks for your feedback on the Twilight series. I just received an email saying One for the Money is at the library, so I'll be starting my very first Stephanie Plum book next! During the summer on my XT days, I like to bring books and work out extra long! I know you've been doing a lot of exercising and been doing well with WW, so I'm sure the pounds will follow soon. It's frustrating to do everything right and have to wait, though.

Johanna: Congrats on your first 5K. You did fabulous, although I'm a little disappointed that you didn't end up DLF. That would be bragging rights (although I know I wanted to avoid such an instance in my first one, too). Your time was great, you know. And you did it on a RW!!! I have a feeling you must be pretty pleased, as you've already signed up for your next 5K. :woohoo: Congrats to your DH and his awesome time. Sometimes I resent the rabbity ways of DOOD, too, but I'm slowly learning to love my tortoise ways. (Apparently I do everything slowly.)

Aimee and Angelamamma: Welcome to the family! We're not quite Big Love or Sopranos family entertaining, but we do our best! Feel free to tell us your stories, your training and race plans, and to ask us impertinent questions. (Okay, to ask them impertinent questions! ;) )

As for me: The hard drive on DOOD's Macbook looks like it's fried, so we're sharing mine for the next little bit. He backs things up religiously, so that's not an issue. But his computer--our computers--are just over a year old, so we're a little annoyed at having to replace the hard drive on one of them.

We still haven't made any arrangements for January and probably won't until mid-August when work plans solidify. DOOD's parents are still interested in volunteering at marathon weeked. But now they want the family to have Christmas in Pgh, which means DOOD and I will need to find a house to rent so the whole family can be together under one roof. (Cheaper that way, yes, but it's also so we can cook and decorate, etc.) I HOPE this doesn't mean they want a repeat of last year, where we spent a week with the family for Christmas and then turned around and spend another week with them in January. Too much family time in close quarters and quick succession for me. They also want us to visit them in early August and to come to Pgh in the fall since the last time we saw each other it was mid-May. They don't see us at all, you see. :lmao:

Anyway, Hotwire keeps sending me emails saying prices on Orlando hotels are dropping, as I mentioned earlier with regards to ToT weekend. I think we might stay offsite in October in order to offset the cost of staying onsite in January. *sigh* But if I have to choose.... It's getting DOOD to commit to onsite that's the problem. I suppose I could just make the ressies and then tell him.... :scratchin

Hi Cousins!

I'm back from Puerto Rico. I've got everyone's cabana boys here and I'll be sending them out to all of you cougars soon. I just have to keep them here for a while and inspect them, you know, to make sure they're good enough for all of my cougar cousins. :lmao:

Jen - It sounds like things are always crazy for you. I hope that things settle down and wish you luck with business and home buying. I just got an email from my library that Lolita is in, so I'll be picking that up this week or early next week. We'll have to compare notes once we've both read it.

Mel - Happy (belated) Birthday! :bday: I love that you accidentally ended up at OKW! Welcome to Cougarville! :rotfl:

Johanna - Congrats on your 5K! :thumbsup2

Aimee - :welcome:

Ruth - Congrats on selling your house so fast! :cool1:

Debra - Sorry to hear that the speed training wasn't working for you, but embracing your inner tortoise sounds like to right move for now. If you're not having fun, then something has to change, right? When you're ready to work on speed again, I have a brilliant idea. Maybe you need a really fast cabana boy to run ahead of you. Trying to catch him will make you run faster! If only it were that simple! :rotfl2: Also, I just wanted you to know that your dad is in my thoughts and I'm here if you ever need to chat, vent, etc. I hope that you're able to make your Jan plans soon, as well as your ToT plans. I hope you enjoy One for the Money!

Maria - When I read your post beginning with "All by Myself..." all I could think of was watching the Donny & Marie show. I have this vivid image of Donny singing that song on the show. Anway, I'm glad to hear that your life is getting back to normal after your company, but I can't believe you threw out cookies! :scared1: I don't think I could ever do that. You're a strong woman!

As for me, DH & I got back from PR on Monday night. We had such a great trip. I love my kids more than anything, but it was so nice to have some kid-free time. I finally got to read Fearless Fourteen - it was great, as all of her books are, but I would have liked a little more Ranger in this book. You can never have too much Ranger! I read two other books as well and started a fourth. I don't know the last time I was able to read like that. The only downer of the trip was that I got a bit of a splotchy sunburn. Note to self, don't use spray sunblock when it's very windy. I apparently missed several spots on my arms and legs due to the wind.

DH & I also just signed up for a half marathon here in Boston in October. This will be my first race ever. I'm not nervous yet, but I'm sure I will be when it gets a bit closer.

Hello to Jeanne, Nancy, and the rest of my cousins! I hope everyone is having a great week.

Good Afternoon, Cousins!

Ok, I did my 2 miles after work yesterday, but it wasn't pretty...I'm hoping my next wog will go better. Tomorrow is the big baseline WI day. This is going to involve tears, shock and depression, but it must be done. ::yes::

Julie -- It sounds like you had a wonderful trip! :lovestruc I'm so glad you were able to get away with DH! My dh can't believe I threw out cookies, either. It was a rude awakening for him. He can have all the cookies he wants from Goofy's Candy Co. in Jan. (and so can I, that's a little deal I cut with myself for post-Half). And you have it right, you can never have enough Ranger...:cool2:

Debra -- Keifer Sutherland is at Comic-con this year. That's a pretty big incentive for me. I don't want to see him, I just want to listen to him. My assistant talks about being blindfolded "to do" him. She's not too fond of his face, but really likes the voice...I guess she really, really likes his voice, come to think of it. :rolleyes1 I hope you are able to distance yourself from the folks a little bit before the race. I know you will be happier if you can concentrate on what you need to do, rather than their wants. All that family togetherness is great in theory. It's the reality that bites :scared:

A big howdy to all the other cousins! I hope you're having a great day, and have plans for a fabulous evening and a rockin' weekend!

Maria :goodvibes

Sweet Maria: I know you're a cougar now, but let's keep it clean. I would like "to do" Johnny Depp, but you don't hear me talking about it.......(ooops, i just did):rotfl: Congrats on throwing out the cookies....they weren't Pepperidge Farm Milanos, were they? The supermarket had them on sale this week so I bought 4 packages! No wonder the pounds don't come off......

Julie: anxiously awaiting my very own cabana boy here......please describe him for me will you? In VERY minute detail. I tend to like them dark and swarthy. pirate:

Johanna: congrats on completing your first 5K! That was an awesome time! And best of all, you're not a racing virgin anymore! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Debra: are you doing both Expedition Everest AND Tower of Terror? (Please say "yes") The best part about staying off property is that if you have a car you'll be able to attend Dave and Robert's party after TofT. That's the one where we get rip-roaring drunk and pretend we're doing one of those nudie races around Boardwalk!
And since this conversation is way too lewd anyway AND I know you love to read, have you ever read any of Anne Rice's erotica series? She writes these under the name A.N. Roquelaure and they make the Tudors seem like "Mr Roger's Neighborhood"

Mel: hope you had a great time at WDW. I'm glad that Toy Mania is easier than Buzz because I can never get better than Space Cadet. My son, on the other hand, has gotten 9's all the way across (max score) at least 3 times when I've been with him because he knows where all the sweet spots are. Even if I knew where they were, I still wouldn't be able to hit them. :3dglasses

Jen: I hope things are looking brighter for you and everything works out well with buying your parents' business. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of business is it? ;)

Aimee and Angelmamma: please don't be shy....I know we're a rowdy bunch, but we only bite young handsome things. Please feel free to jump right in! :surfweb:

Corinna: where have you been? Are we losing you also? The Big Kahuna sweetly requests you check in for roll-call! :confused3

Richard: how's the healing process coming along? I'm happy to see you're still managing to get those miles in.

Ruth: congrats on selling the house so quickly. Considering what the market is like in most areas, you are very, very lucky. :thumbsup2

Linda, Robert, Denny, Christa, Nancy, Morgan, Shell, Kayci, and JenB: Hi there! :flower3: Don't be strangers!

Julie: anxiously awaiting my very own cabana boy here......please describe him for me will you? In VERY minute detail. I tend to like them dark and swarthy. pirate:

Jeanne, it will take me a while to get a full description of your cabana boy for you. You see, I want to be very accurate, so I must spend a lot of time making my observations. However, I can tell you that he looks a lot like Johnny Depp. :lmao::rotfl2:

Jeanne -- Sorry! I didn't mean to scare off any cousins. It's Debra's fault. I'm just a relatively new cougar, and she's bringing out the raunchy in me! (Although you were the one talking about lost virginity in your post...;) ) The cookies were just chocolate chip from the grpcery store bakery, not very exciting, but the soft kind with gooey chocolate chips...

Julie -- What half marathon are you doing? You will do great!

Off to catch a few minutes of Colbert before I retreat into the arms of Morpheus (not Johnny Depp, he's apparently in great demand!:lmao: )

Maria :happytv:

Maria - We're doing the BAA Half Marathon. I think it starts and ends in the Fenway area and a lot of the route is along the Emerald Necklace. I think we even get to run through the Franklin Park Zoo. Wanna join us?

Julie: I'm so glad you had a fun time in Puerto Rico. It sounds like you came back rested, relaxed, and with a new career as a cabana-boy inspector. Time well spent! :lmao: It sounds like you had a great time in PR enjoying some R & R, despite the sunburn. Did you and DH take pictures to share?

I think you're right--chasing a cabana boy is probably the incentive I need to stick with speedwork. For now, though, I'm going to take some easy runs in the heat & then get back to incorporating speedwork into my runs on a more limited schedule. Not as much fun, and the results probably won't be as exciting, but those cabana boys are probably pretty expensive in terms of upkeep.

Congratulations on signing up for a fall half! :woohoo: And the BAA sounds like a lot of fun, especially the route going by Fenway, Emerald Necklace, and the zoo. Very scenic, which is especially nice for your first-ever race. And a big wow for that! You're going to do fabulous! What's the weather like in Boston in October

Maria: Oh, I like Keifer Sutherland's voice, too. His looks--well, he looks like he's been living a full life. But I don't know if I've ever forgiven him for being engaged to America's sweetheart, Julia Roberts. (She's one of the few actors I can't stand--her, Kevin Costner, maybe that's about it.) How did your WI go?? Remember, this is just a baseline and it's all downhill from here (esp. on the scale). I've been very bad--have gained weight since we moved closer to the coffee shops and baked goodies--and will be stepping back on the bandwagon on Monday. I'll have to confess to the Lean Meaners then, when I have the scale information and a plan. At least DOOD's gained, too, so I don't feel it's just me. It's the change in eating habits.

And I refuse to take all the blame for the cougar raunchiness. You noted Jeanne's post very well, and we all know Jeanne has this tendency to go naked.... Then there are the wild nights of Jeanne and Nancy, including multiple bottles of wine. So I'd say it's the effect of Ohana's leader on all us us! :rotfl2: I also feel compelled to note, though, that YOU'RE the one describing the cookies as soft and gooey. Very sensual descriptions, hmmmm. :rotfl:

Jeanne: I've not read Anne Rice's erotica series, nor really any of her vampire books. Lame, I know. We've not decided about EE yet, although DOOD is very excited about the possibility. Inaugural is such an incentive for him. But he's got to apply for promotion this year, and he's not quite sure when his portfolio materials are due. We think it's at the end of the fall semester and, if so, that's really going to interfere with weekends. He'd already have tenure if we hadn't relocated to Pittsburgh, but now his tenure & promotion clock have been reset and he's anxious about his status at his new university. Anyway, if the work schedules and budget permits, we're going to try and do both EE and ToT--which pretty much guarantees offsite stays. A small sacrifice for Disney and partying with WISHers, IMO!

And you know you have your very own "to do" list, because you're a cougar too. You're the Big Kahuna cougar, as a matter of fact! Dark and swarthy sounds a lot like Johnny Depp at his bad-boy best. He's just the way I like them, just about my size! (That way, I can take him down if I have to--very much like my female detective heroes!) For you, I would choose a cabana boy that not only knows his wine list but can match you drink for drink! And he's so strong he can uncork a bottle with his teeth! Talk about unnecessary but worthy-of-conversation job skills... but I'm thinking Julie, with her recent experience, is a much better judge at auditioning cabana boys. Or maybe Mel, as our newest cougar!

Robert: A shout-out to you. I noticed your mileage has been increasing quite nicely over the past week or so. How are you feeling, in general and with regards to the DL 1/2?

Shell: And here's a question for you, too. How's your surgery/rehab plans coming along?

Mel: Have a great vacation!

Jen, Denny, Richard, Christa, Corrina, Nancy, Morgan, Johanna, Kayci, JenB, Ruth, Aimee and Angelmamma: :cheer2: Come join the fun!

Janet Evanovich & Questions:I finished One for the Money yesterday--and now DOOD's reading it. Nancy, you're right--it's a very quick read. And DOOD will be doing his reading on the elliptical during his XT days. I'm not sure how to answer Maria's question about preferring Morelli or Ranger, because the book pretty much seemed to be the Morelli show. I assume there's some vying for Stephanie's attention as the series progresses? If I have to choose a favorite male character, though, I choose Eddie, Stephanie's cousin-in-law and friend. He likes donuts and pizza and treats Plum seriously. Morelli's a little too suave in a predictable way, and Ranger's too cool for school. (Although I do love the Henry Higgins comparison.) I'm more fascinated by the development of the female hard-boiled character, whether detective, cop, bounty hunter, or executioner. It seems that so many of them talk about their appearance (esp. with regards to heterosexual romance), their eating habits, their clothing, and running! Is this common to the genre? I did like how Evanovich sets the reader up for Plum's development as a bounty hunter and how family is so central to the novel and to the character's success. I'll be reading Two for the Dough when it comes in to the library on ILL.

As for me: I actually think the possibility of a family vacay at Disney in January might work out, even if my ILs want to come to Disney for the full week. Apparently, I wore them out so much on the last trip (and believe me, I took it really easy on them!) that they have no interest in touring the parks with me. :rotfl: I still would prefer they pop in only for marathon weekend, but I can deal with meeting up for dinner every night, too. Keep your fingers crossed for me that all our planned Disney travel will pan out.

Next up on the reading list? Night by Elie Wiesel. I've been remiss in not reading this book earlier. I guess I'm too old for it to have been assigned to me on a high-school summer reading list. :confused3 And tonight we see The Dark Knight! DOOD chose that over seeing Wall-E (I've already seen it) or Mongol, even though the IMAX screenings are sold out. He and I are such comic-book fangeeks that it's not even fun. What can I say--I love a man in latex. :confused3 :rotfl2: And somewhere this weekend there will be running--not long, not fast, but with much effort in the heat. I'm so glad most of my marathon training is in cool weather.

Happy Saturday am, Cousins!

Just a quick post today -- gotta get out with the family in the back yard. The baseline weigh in was pretty scary, as I predicted. That was great motivation! I stuck to and counted my Points for WW all day. My plan to workout was foiled when we didn't have power between 5:45 and 7:00 am, and it got so hot during the day, working out in the afternoon or evening wasn't an option. On the bright side, I was up at 6 today and did 5.2 miles around Deer Island! It felt great to be all worked out by 8, and ready for family fun.

We shopped last night for today's cookout foods. I even have light buns, and ground turkey breast. And I'm counting every point!

Debra -- I'm with you on Julia Roberts. I just don't get the hype. And don't forget she dumped poor Keifer for that idiot from the Lost Boys movie. Is it Jason Gedrick? Time has made me forget... Ok, I admit, I can be plenty raunchy on my own. You are not to blame for my bad behavior. ;) And no more yummy cookies for me. I'm strictly sticking to the 100 cal packs. The mini fudge stripes are actually fairly decadent, as are the Lorna Doones.

Julie -- I mentioned the BAA half to dh, and he was pretty firmly against it. I think he only wants to do the Disney Half -- as long as I can keep him doing that, I'm happy! I have a feeling he won't be willing to do it much more, this may be the last year. If so, I'm going to start working him for ToT! :thumbsup2

Ok, everybody get out and have a wonderful day!
Maria

Hello all! Hope it was a good weekend for everyone. HOT & humid here - my least favorite combination. I even watched a bit of the British Open and was dreadfully jealous of the people in sweaters & coats & gloves.

I've had a really good running week though. Last weekend we went to Iowa for a wedding. My in-laws live right on a bike path, so I was excited to get off the treadmill and put my nifty Garmin to work! Saturday morning was perfect weather - 50's, overcast, slight breeze. I planned to run at least an hour (6 miles or so) but hoping to make 8. My husband said he'd meet me down the trail with some water (no fountains on the trail and I don't have a water belt or anything). What a GREAT run. Except for the fact that I never found my husband (well, he never found me. I was speedier than he expected) Went 4 miles out along the trail then headed back and felt so good I kept going another 2. I certainly didn't plan to do 10 miles with no water but it was so cool out that I didn't feel bad. And I averaged just under a 10 minute mile - holy moly! That's fast for me, for that long a run. I saw 4 rabbits, lots of frogs and a Brittany spaniel in a wheelchair. OK, not technically a wheelchair, but his back legs were in a little cart and he had massive shoulders and was FAST! :thumbsup2

My husband went out of town on Monday morning, so it's been back to the treadmill for me. But I'm nearly halfway through season 1 of Alias! Even got in 8 miles yesterday (1.5 episodes ;) ) One more week of him being gone (he's touring farms in the Ukraine and apparently drinking his body weight in vodka - niiiiiiiiice).

So I have just GOT to find a running group - I'm not good at running alone. I used to train with one that was really good. Runners of all paces, a great coach (former TNT coach), nice courses with water/gatorade stops. They also do speedwork one night a week. They meet about an hour away from me, unfortunately. Not that I can't do that, but 6 am runs = me getting up at 4. Not to mention gas. Eh, I guess it's not that bad just once a week. They start up again August 9 so I need to decide.

Of course what I NEED to decide is what, exactly, I'm training for. I have 2 half marathons coming up in October & November. But I can keep up where I am now and do those, no problem. What keeps sticking in my mind is doing the full marathon at Disney. I have the time to train for it (in weeks at least, not so much in hours, if that makes sense) but the thought of it is a bit daunting at this point. I ran it 10 years ago but doing it at 38 is a whole different thing. How long would you guess till it closes? A month maybe? So what do y'all think? (As if any of you are going to discourage me from doing it - ha!)

Egads, this is just rambling. A week of limited adult conversation and here I am at nearly midnight, with my goofy stream of consciousness posting. ;) Now I need to go catch up on what everyone else has been doing. Sorry I haven't posted much, but I do check in when I get a chance.

I didn't realize that Keifer Sutherland was engaged to Julia Roberts at one time. I missed not having "24" on this year because of the writers strike and getting to see him as Jack the savior of the world.

Debra--- I never saw someone put so much thought into a Janet Evanovich book. I don't remember Eddie being in any other books. Grandma is one of my favorite characters and you will be laughing alot at her in further books. Each book has a mixture of Ranger and Joe, Fearless Fourteen had more Joe than Ranger. Others have alot of Ranger. I can't believe that someone hasn't made a movie out of this series.

Julie--- Glad that you had a great vacation in PR. I admire that you held off on reading Fearless Fourteen unti you went on vacation.

Kayci---Good job on your running this past week. I read that the Disney marathon is 75% full. I would just keep watching. Robert would have a better idea of when it might close.

Maria--- I'm sort of like your husband right now, the only half I plan to do is the Disney. Last year I did 2 and really have no interest in doing any this year prior to the Disney half. As I said before I am really enjoying all the variety of classes at the gym and am doing very little walking. I never thought I would get into spin class but really like it along with pilates and the one interval class. I hope when I start my training in Oct my attitude improves about the walking. Otherwise, I might actually consider not doing the half and just come for the week and cheer others on.

I see that Jeanne is corrupting all the young ones again. Now me I am just a quiet shy girl and wouldn't even think of reading those types of books as I run off to the book store to look for a A.N. Roquelaure book.

We went to Hersheypark yesterday to see the "Associations". They have 3 orginal members in that group and had a good 1 hr show. The next couple of weeks have good oldies groups on Sunday. We haven't been there since early June, as they had mostly country and Christian groups, now we are back to my era type of music. The nice thing with a Hersheypark season pass is you get 15% off food and we have a refillable mug from several years ago and refills are 99 cents. There is a B-bque stand that has great beef subs so we always have that along with redskin roasted potatoes and a drink and it less than $17. HP makes no money off us as we eat, go to the concert and leave.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Kacyi: This year 2008 (15th Ann) the race was 60% full in May and closed on Aug 23. I think it took 3 weeks for it to go from 70 to 75%. I would predict another couple of months. This would follow 2007 when it filled in Sept. Keep an eye out as when it hits 90%, that last 10% goes really fast as everyone jumps on board.
