My second son, is learning to drive... he will be 16 in July. It is a well known fact, especially to the auto insurance industry, that the Male members of this family are horrid drivers. Maybe Jake will be the odd one out! That would be a great thing...

I will admit.. I am difficult to drive with.. as you may know I
know what I am doing! ;) (really, I know it is my NEED to be in CONTROL).
He has 3 more days of Behind the wheel instruction to complete this week.. then it is up to me.. as dh is still out of town for a while. OH MAN!! I taught the eldest son to drive.. it was hysterically funny.. as I taught him to drive on a STICK in a Suzuki Samurai! The poor kid had a hec of time taming the 1st gear!
He is an awful driver.. I taught him well .. I promise... but he has a collection of speeding tickets as well as citations for accidents.
( however he has been accident free for 2 years!!)

I am hoping that Jake will be a safer driver... The car he will be using is my '94 Chrysler New Yorker.. lucky kid.. (he really likes the car too) However he is like most teens and he tells me he KNOWS what he is doing.. YIKES !!

AH! So any other parents teaching their kids how to drive..
Pass the VALIUM!! and say a prayer for me!

You're scaring me. :earseek:

DS James gets his learner's permit in less than 3 weeks. I am not looking forward to that at all. If he drives a car like he pilots the riding lawnmower, we are ALL in a great deal of trouble.

Many hugs and pixie dust for you Joan!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will survive!!!!!!! Your sanity might not but you will.;) :p

I remember those days. Good luck with this. Here's hoping Jake missed that bad driving genes :)

I totally understand, my little sister (16) has her learners permit and freaks me out, she turned when I told her not to and she nearly got us hit by another car, talk about scary. She drives slow but not carefully, I get nervous everytime I get in the car with her, especially when she is driving my car.

Pass the valium when Jake's done! Matt will be 16 in December! In my case tho, I can tell him to let his father teach him. :p

Accident-free {{HUGS}} Joan!

Okay looks like we are going to need a support group here for all of us parents with newly driving children(and broke from paying for the insurance). My oldest ds will be taking drivers ed soon to get his permit, he will be 16 in Sept.

Thank you for your support and laughter.. it is exactly what I need!!!

My only suggestion for those of you with kids getting their permits soon is to check your Auto Insurance... some companies make you pay for the new driver as soon as they get their permit.. others have you wait until they get their official license.. ooooh and remember to bring your pot of gold to the office with you when you do add them to your insurance! LOL...

God Love ya.. and keep all those new drivers safe!
:bounce: :jester: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc  :bounce:

Too funny! I'm childless by choice, but sold my Ford Probe (stick) years ago - a co-worker of my husband was interested in purchasing it for his teenage son.

All was well...until it came out neither the parents nor kid knew how to drive a stick. I had to give a quickie parking lot lesson in driving a manual transmission. (Once he conquered that horrid 1st gear, he did really well!).

In retrospect, it was probably easier for me (a stranger) to teach him than either of us teaching/learning from a close relative ;)

Denise < --- Motown girl who loves manual transmission cars ;)

{{{{HUGS}}}} Joan. I am so glad I am 9 years away from being in your shoes. Prayers and pixie dust are heading your way my friend.

Hugs Joan...........I have taught all 3 of my daughters as my husband does not drive, never has, so I can remember those days and nights trapped in the car, trying to be patient *sigh* but all three have their license and are good drivers.........but I never want to do that again... ;) :)

{{snoopy silently thanks God she has 8 more years to prepare for this!!}}

Good luck, Mama!

good luck Joan- we are going through the same thing. My hair will be completely grey by the time he gets his license:rolleyes:

I'll give you the rest of my Valium prescription!!!:teeth: :teeth:

My second son got his license last month. He just turned 16. I have to say I like it better now then when I had to sit with him and help him "practice" drive for 50 hours last year!!!!

10 more years before the Sethman starts to drive.

He has already sat on my lap and done some steering. Boy, when Becky found out about that one, I was lucky I was still able to drive:D

I'm in the beginning of teaching my oldest how to drive. Isn't it funny how the person without a license keeps telling you that they know what they are doing?

Jeez, I thought I was gonna pass out the first time I took my ds out driving!

Both my kids were taking driving training at the same time. They are close in age. My hair is grey and I STILL worry about them drving now at l9 and 21.

The Insurance is unbelievable.
