Teachers: What names are you sick of?

I'm an Emily and when I was in elementary school, I hated having 3 other classmates with the same name! The teacher would go batty and so would we! Not only that but there was another girl who was also an Emily M. and that made things worse.

So, I can feel for all of those named, Aiden, Kaylee, ect. It truly sucks!

my stepson's name is Shelby - I have never heard of a boy with name b4 :confused3 btw he hates it

Being an Amy in the 80s was pretty bad too. Aimmee Aimee Amy Aime, I constantly get asked how I spell my name. Plus in school there was at least one other Aimee or Amy in there. I think my class had 3 or 4 Amy's.

When I taught kindergarten, I couldn't tell by looking at the roll whether several of the students were boys or girls. The girls who had names that were traditionally boys' names did not like their names at all. They wished they had girls' names.

My dd has a traditionally male name that I spelled differntly ( and after I picked it I found out it was very popular the year I had her) Bradyn. However, I did think in advance if she wanted a traditional "female" name she can go by her middle Name Elizabeth, or a combo name like Brady-Beth. She either goes by Brady, Brady-Beth or Bradyn.

It's traditionally a boy's name, but it's been taken over by the girls in recent years.

well color me stupid b/c I really had no clue. learn something new every day huh? :goodvibes

oh yeah I work with a Brandon but goes by Brandy, every time that someone who didn't know would come into our office and ask if it was a typo:rotfl2:

I only know because names are my "thing." It was never a very popular boy's name. I think girls started being named it in the early to mid 1900's.

My niece had a friend named Qilee--pronounced Kylee or however it should be spelled. Our Kindergarten class last year had a little girl named Cennedy...

Alright! That is purely illiterate. Isn't "Q" always followed by "U"? And "C" followed by "E" should have a "S" sound. Come on...that isn't the difference of Y/I/IE/EE or C/K followed by an "A" or the difference between ON/EN/AN.

Kevin, Katie (used as a nickname), Chris, and Christian are really big names at my 300 person school.

Not a teacher but I have a Madeline. What is so frustrating is that people think it is pronounced Mad-a-lyn. It's actually Mad-a-LINE. :sad2:

My Maiden name is McKee. I cannot tell you the number of times people have pronounced it McGee. It's a 'K'...where do they get G?

I would agree with you...the pronounciation of MadeLINE is rather obvious to me.

I have a Kayla and love that name.....

In my K/1 class right now I have an Aiden,Andy, Austin, Annabelle, and an Aldo. Lots of A names.... Then lots of M names too.... Milan, Miranda, Mason...

I don't like the names where it could be a boy or girl either...
My sister though is a Toni... My mom didn't want to have a boy name and girls name. She was either going to be a Toni or a Tony... :rotfl2:

Not a teacher, but...

I'm sick to death of Kaitlyn and Kayleigh and their variations.

Also tired of Annabelle, Isabelle, Annabella and Isabella. Madison, too.

Not slamming over-used, common names. I have one and am sure people were tired of it, too.

This one of the things I love about teaching in a diverse setting, is that we very rarely get repeats in the same class. Our classlists look something like this:

Abdurahim
Yimfong
Daniela
James
Mihret
Krishnan
Damian
Joy

I can think of maybe 5 or 6 names that we have more than 1 of in the school, but none that we hear often enough to get annoyed with.

Now, before this I taught at a school that was very undiverse, and our lists were full of Aiden/Aidan, Jack, and Will(iam), Sophie/Sophia, Emma, and Grace. I actually really like all those names but there were so many.

I got lucky, I'm the only Billy in my entire high school. It's still a common enough name that I don't have to spell it, but it's not Matthew or James.

:rotfl: My son is Matthew James.
He is the only Matthew in his grade though. I am surprised at that.

My daughter started out Kindergarten with 3 Matthews, by 2nd grade they had all moved away.
There are 3 Anthonys in her grade-all of them in one class last year. 2 Ryans(a name I love btw) in her grade, and my son has 2 Alexandras in his grade.
There are only about 55 kids per grade in their school though.

I am so over all those K girls names, but then again my son has one of the most used names so who am I to talk?;)

Hate to tell you but the "lyn" is the commonly accepted English pronounciation of Madeline. "-Line" is only in fashion from the children's books, and that was a deliberate change by the author (from his wife's name/pronunciation) for easier rhyming. Basically, he made it up.

Well, I named my son Torin, which was unique to me, but may be considered weird by others. I am a teacher and I also get tired of the same old names. This year I don't have more than one of any name, though and that helps! And the name I hate to see on my role is Ethan. I have taught four Ethans and I was glad when each one moved on to the next class. I am sure there are plenty of nice Ethans out there, but I seem to attract the spoiled rotten, out of control ones, LOL
