Teachers: What names are you sick of?

In my son's Kindergarten class there are 3 Jessicas= and the other class has 2 of them and the third class has 1.
So out of about 25 girls there are 6 named Jessica!
When my son is talking about something a girl did and I ask which one he always replies "Probably one of the Jessicas"

The Kaityln's are all in my 6th graders class.
And the Madison's are big in the 3rd grade

(My daughter has an old fashioned one that is starting to get a little popular but she is 11 and only knows one other with her name.
My son's are all pretty much the only ones- But they are not unusually spelled.)

Oh and edit to add of the 3 male babies I have seen born this past year they are ALL named Brody.

I'm not a teacher but we did spell our oldest son's name differently. It, however, is in all the baby books I've ever seen as an alternative spelling so I didn't just make it up. It's always mispelled when papers come home but I just shrug it off because it's not really that big of a deal, he's 5. When he's older he might care but until then...

His name is Zakary. Zak for short. :)

I have a VERY normal Name Linda and I hated it growing up was NOT popular at all - however I named my kids Heather and James normal but not so normal that they didn't hate it - I wanted them to be easy so no one had a problem with them and I spelled them normally!

i am tired of all the kayllee's and other ways of spelling them we have so amny around here .....

If I have one more Kayla, Kayleigh, Mikayla, Mikyla, I might scream. I've never had a Tyler that wasn't an absolute dickens.

I have a Kaylee. She is a doll. How about if we judge kids by their behaviour instead of some name you may not like.

In my 7 and 8th grade classes I have 5 Alison's all spelled differently! I have to be so careful to get the right spelling with the right girl! They are all sweet as can be though! I also have 3 Maddy's. 2 Madison and 1 Madelin. Also all very sweet.

My daughter's 5th grade class has 4 Sara/Sarahs -- 8.3%. And my daughter's 7th grade class has 3 Rachel/Rachaels -- another 8.3% . And for some reason, most siblings of a Rachel have a Sarah -- I guess if you like one, you like the other!
LOL! I know a Sarah with a sister Rachel! :rotfl2:

When I taught kindergarten, I couldn't tell by looking at the roll whether several of the students were boys or girls. The girls who had names that were traditionally boys' names did not like their names at all. They wished they had girls' names.

I have friend names Randi her mom said that if she was a boy his name would have bee Amanda:rotfl2:

It's all the similar names that get me.

I teach music and have an Alicia in every class I teach. Some say A-lee-sha and some say A-lee-cee-a. It's very hard to remember who pronounces it each way. Then add in the Ellysse's, etc...

I also have trouble with the Alexandras and the Allessandras and the Kaitlynns, Kaileens, Kaylas, Kayleighs, Kyias, etc.

While it seems more widespread, it's really no different than the Sonya (Sownya, Sawnya) thing in the 70's. Oh, and remember Sheri and Cheri?

disneykat- I teach music, too! :cool1: :thumbsup2

I have many Jose's this year. I teach all the K-4 kids in my school, and there are only 2 girls names Kali- pronounced differently! Kay-lee and Kah-lee. I always mess those up...

The most interesting name at my school...La' Sonya....say it a few times fast, and it sound like Italian food...:rotfl2:

And Lord help anyone who pronounced it that way...

I have a niece named Casey. She always hated that she had a boy's name. She said it was embarrassing for the boys who shared her name and that made her uncomfortable.

Of course, her mom's other choice was Dallas :bitelip: , so I think she got off easy.

I'm guilty as charged...named my daughter Chelsie. Spelled it different so it was a little unique. The only other time I've seen it spelled that way is at the toy store...there is a Barbie named Chelsie.
I have a friend named Chelsie (spelled this way) - she's a college freshman. I also know a Chelsea (a college sophomore).

Why don't people name their kids lisa, susan, karen anymore? I am a Susan. Probably because these names are from the 1960's and earlier, But they are classic names.
I also have a friend named Caryn (a college junior). I work with her and Chelsie at school (we have a multitude of different names - not always spelled "normally" in our office -Caryn, Chelsie, Allison and Alison, two Alex's, a Caitie, a Daniele, two Nicole's, Abi, Emily, Jenny, Sheryl, Melissa - we're all college aged - mostly undergrad with a few grad students)

Hmmm, I have two Shaelynn's right now... And they're both blessed with an abundance of personality.
One of my good friends in high school was Shaelyn - also with an abundance of personality! (Our Spanish teacher didn't like her for that - but she didn't like anyone come to think of it haha)

In my 7 and 8th grade classes I have 5 Alison's all spelled differently! I have to be so careful to get the right spelling with the right girl!
Story of my life. I'm an Allison - two L's and an I. I always have to spell it out like that - and I've always been Allison K. Never just Allison. One of my good friends growing up was also an Allison (spelled the same), my class in high school had the two Allisons and an Allyson, a family friend is Alison, one of my dance teachers was Alison, and I work with another Alison, who is also Alison K. She's a grad student so she's Grad Alison haha - but it's funny when we're in the same room and someone comes in and says "Hey Allison" and we both answer. And at one point last year we had another Allison in the office - that was quite crazy.

In high school I had a class with 30 kids in it, two Allisons, an Allyson and three Christophers - THAT was fun  . I also went to high school with a Teala (pronounced like the color teal with an a on the end - she kept a running tally of how many times her name was pronounced wrong - she had 30 by the end of the first week of our freshman year haha). Oh and in my class there was at least a Kaitlyn/Caitlin/Kate-Lynn that I knew of.

Megan (I actualy had 7! one year and every single one spelled it differently)
Taylor (boys or girls)
I have never taught a "Luke" that could behave either!

Phew,my sons' names haven't been mentioned yet!:thumbsup2

:rotfl2: That's what I was thinking!!! None of my kid's names have been mentioned and I'm a bit surprised as the boy's ones are rather popular I would think. They are definitely traditional -- maybe that's why there aren't other ones in their class? I didn't go trendy. I won't know until next year for my youngest though, he starts Kindergarten then. We shall see.

Of course, my DD's name is a rather traditional one that ends in LYN and I never in a million years when I named her thought it would be mispronounced LINE all the time. Who knew! It sounds just like it's spelled. She also was the only one until she hit High School.

Edited: OOPS...spoke too soon. One of my son's name just got mentioned. ;)

I got lucky, I'm the only Billy in my entire high school. It's still a common enough name that I don't have to spell it, but it's not Matthew or James.

I have a Rachael. She is only in 2nd grade but there has never been another Rachael/Rachel in her classes.

Around here Emma, Jayden, Olivia and Tyler are all very common.

My niece had a friend named Qilee--pronounced Kylee or however it should be spelled. Our Kindergarten class last year had a little girl named Cennedy, and the subsitututes were always pronouncing it Sennedy. My niece is named Allyson, and while I like the name very much, she is bugged by the fact she can never find anything spelled that way.

Same here.. I thought I was good with the name we picked until I got to one post on page 3.
Oh well. Not bad, as they had quite a list of names! :rotfl:

The name we had for a girl hasn't been mentioned yet, though. Except I'm not having a girl. Oh well!

I fell in love with the name Randi (due to a girl I met growing up). I did not want to use that as my daughter's name. I wanted her to have a more 'formal' name, so I combed the Baby Name Books for a name that could be shortened to Randi. I came across Miranda and fell in love with that too. She's almost 9 now and we use both names about 60/40 (Miranda/Randi). I have to say that she gets a kick out of hearing how we chose her name.
