Teachers: What names are you sick of?

I'm not really sick of any names, but I often feel so sorry for kids who are saddled with just ridiculous, utterly misspelled names that no one can pronounce. I had one kid just last week (a high school junior) tell me that his mom gave him one of those made-up names with all the apostrophes and dashes and multiple capitalizations in it. Part of the name sounded like Shaun, so he has just basically changed his name to that. He said, "Man, my mom, what was she thinking? What a stupid name she gave me."

I have a lot of Daltons and Coltons this year. These are not names I have heard before coming to this area. Maybe it's just the area I'm in?

Haven't had a dalton or colton in 10 years of teaching (atleast 1000 students)...but I am in NJ!

Haven't had an Aiden yet, but i have one of my own! ALso haven't had a Kaylee, but that is DD's middle name!

Not that I mind, but I have had alot of Emily's, Tylers, 3 Danielles in one class this year, Kayla, Ashley, Sarah, Hannah...

I'm not a teacher, but I have 3 school-aged children (and 2 toddlers).

This would be my list.
1) Connor (last yr my DD had 3 in her class)
2) Ryan and Matthew (my son's baseball team had 3 Matthew's and 2 Ryan's)
3) Kaitlyn, Caitlyn, Caitlin, Kaitlin, etc...along with Kaylee/Kayleigh and Kailyn just for more confusion

That's sad. She probably tried so hard to give him a "special" name that it backfired.

For me, I love classic names. A lot of them are unique now!

This is a stupid spelling issue:

We have a preschooler named Crystyna. I guess her parents weren't fond of vowels. However, I noticed that when labeling her bag, they write "Tina". :confused3 If vowels are ok for a nickname, then why aren't they on her birth certificate?

When my son was in our very small preschool, there were 4 Matthew's.
Matthew M.
Matthew R.
Matt
Little Matthew (he was the only 2 1/2 yo in the program)

The only multiple names in my kids' classes this year are 2 Alexis' and 2 Jaylyn's.

I'm guilty as charged...named my daughter Chelsie. Spelled it different so it was a little unique. The only other time I've seen it spelled that way is at the toy store...there is a Barbie named Chelsie.:thumbsup2

Now my son is named Cooper, unique but easy to spell and pronounce. So tell me how come each year his new teacher starts off calling him Copper?:rotfl2: Our last name is Irwin, so then he has the problem of people not being able to tell which is his first and last name. Doesn't seem to matter if Smith, Joe is right above his name and they say Joe. When they get to Irwin, Cooper it seems to blow their mind and they don't know what to say as a first name. We live in a small town, but there is one other child the same age as my son with the first name Cooper. Never fails, they always get put into the same class.:lmao:

Caitlin (and all alternative spellings), Kaylee, Briana, Jasmine.
Dylan, Jacob/Jake, Tyler, all -adens.

Henry! Yes, it is my son's name. We named him after my dad. I hadn't met anyone named Henry, other than my dad, and everyone we mentioned it to told us what an old name it is, unique, etc. Well everywhere I go someone is calling a Henry! There are 3 of them in his school alone and there are only 175 kids. Every activity we do has at least 1 other Henry, they are all over the playgrounds, the mall, etc. It's crazy and so unexpected to me.

Now, otoh, my daughter's name is Madison and we have never personally met another one. And that's the name I thought we'd hear all over the place!

<<<When my son was in our very small preschool, there were 4 Matthew's.
Matthew M.
Matthew R.

Matthew has been a top name for the past 20 yrs or so. My godson is Matthew and he is 21 :0
Why don't people name their kids lisa, susan, karen anymore? I am a Susan. Probably because these names are from the 1960's and earlier, But they are classic names.

This year I have two Madisons and two Emilys. I have a Jacob on each day (we have alternate day kdgn) and a McKenzie and a Kenzie on alternate days. I also have an Emma.

The name I hear the most is Aiden (one year I had four in my room :scared: ... two Aiden, Aidan, and Ayden) ... or anything that rhymes with it .... Jaiden (various spellings), Hayden, Kaiden, Brayden, Payden ... all kinds of spellings of all of these.

My girls are Julia and Olivia. There is usually another Olivia in whatever program or class she is in. Her new school this year though doesn't have another Olivia (yet!).

We have a grade one child in our school who is Xzydn (Ziii-den) ... weird!!

Hmmm, I have two Shaelynn's right now... And they're both blessed with an abundance of personality.

I'm a little tired of the odd spellings as well. An odd spelling isn't unique and special, it just makes a perfectly nice name difficult to pronounce and spell. I remember teaching a "Prescious" once. Not only was a it a name I felt silly saying, but it was a nuisance to try and remember to spell it wrong!

LOL! I have a co-worker with two boys the ages of my girls. Yep, they are named Dalton and Colton!

Preschool teacher here. Lots of Madisons & 'J' names for boys (Jack, Jake, Jackson, etc). Lots of K names for girls too (Kylie, Kaylee, Kaitlin, Kate, etc).

I don't mind a slightly unusual spelling but don't get offended if I ask you how to say it. Also, don't get upset if I ask if your child has a nickname. If their name is 'Benjamin', I'd like to know if he goes by 'Ben'.

I have an Aidan and it is constantly being miss spelled. People want to spell it Aiden. Both are common spellings but it does get frustrating when I go in on the first day of school and have to let them know all the things with his name on them are misspelled.

Well I have a Colleen, Frank and a Dominic. So far so good-no other kids in my childrens classes with their names-and I'm glad. I picked names that were unique to their heritage-not what was popular with the masses.

I don't care how many normal names I get.....Emily, Ashley, Branden, Jordan, Alicia etc.......

What I can't stand are names like Janaynay, Chaniqua, LaTifya, Jolanda, and Raydel..............fortunatley My school only has about 2 of these;)

I know for a fact that very people have my name because they is always misspelling it. It is not Alfreda. If call that one time I will scream. It's La Freda and I have never met any with may ever. Depending on what mood I am in I will not answer you.

I teach pre-K and I have so many kids that has same name that I am confusing. Can people name there kids something normal.

I like odd spellings as long as they make sense.

Brian or Bryan fine.

Brandy or Brandi fine

Michelle, Michele fine

Shawn, Sean, Shaun fine

Chelsey, Chelsea fine

Chelesy, Shelsey, not fine - I'm still trying to figure out when SH took on the CH sound.:confused3

I had a girl named Cyle once (pronounced Kyle). It drove me nuts to look at that name!

Not a teacher, but I have 3 kids.

I’m sick and tired of all the Tyler’s, Colton’s, Cooper’s, Kaitlin’s , Kaylee’s, Mc/Mac anything (Mackalia, McKenzie, etc), Hayden’s, Presley/Preslee’s, Christopher’s, Jacob’s, Michael’s, Ally’s, Ella’s, Payton’s, Grayson’s, Aiden’s, Avery’s, Riley’s, Grant’s, Matthew’s, Mason’s, Sara’s, Emily's, Emma's Lucas’s and all their various spellings! It's the same stupid names in each class--and the grade school has 10 classes for each grade level. Not grade, class.

Spellings don’t bother me. I have a normally spelled name, but not popular. I never have been able to ever find anything with my name on it; I’m hardly scared. And, yes, my kid’s names are also spelled normally.

What’s funny is in my oldest son’s grade last year, Class A had a Riley, Payton, and Avery. Class B also had a Riley, Payton, and Avery. In class A they were all boys. In class B they were all girls. THAT drives me batty.

Or how about the names that are pronounced one way by everyone, but the person whose name it is wants it pronounced differently?

Someone I know whose name is Marcia wants everyone to pronounce it
