Just had a letter from the boys school. School is closed for two of them(years 7 and 10),but my middle son has to go to school(year 9),this is going to cause fireworks when they come home wish me luck:headache:

if it was me I'd give the middle fellow a day off to if he wanted too

I rember when we were on strike at school and all the teachers had to go , something to do with the busses

Disruption here too. Both High school and Junior school closed:mad:
DS will miss school, then he should have been at JS for a Steel band club meeting then we all should have been going to HS in evening for a parent/teacher meeting. All cancelled.

Wish our college was striking, I could do with a day off for marking!

The school my sister teaches at is closing but the school my mum works in is not, although apparently the NUT staff are going to still be working as normal which is wrong seeing as it is the NUT that has called for the strike.

Considering it is a National strike for NUT workers, its amazing the results of which schools are closing, I know not everyone is a member but the results are certainly varied.

I thought college lecturers were joining the strike Jen uk?

Some colleges are joining the strike but ours isn't :confused3

Dd7 is at school until 12-15pm.She has 2 teachers-1 in the morning-which is'nt with the NUT and the other teacher who works in the afternoon who is.Dd7 is not happy-she loves school so much and only went back yesterday after half term.x.

I'm an NUT member but I have chosen not to strike. It is a national strike but the Union asks members to join rather than force them. I teach part time at a village primary school with 17 children. The 8 children that I teach only have me on Thursdays and Friday mornings so if I went on strike then they would miss a whole week of the work that we do together. I didn't think it fair to them so I decided not to strike. Also my colleague isn't a NUT member so if I went on strike then she would be in school on her own with her class of 9. It just didn't seem right.

Other NUT members please don't flame me :scared1:

I personally think that you choosing not to strike-is very good/kind of you because you are thinking of the children that you teach.x.

i have dd off for the day (yr5) but ds (yr2) has to go in...he is not impressed !

our school have given us 10 days notice :thumbsup2

Primary school where DW works is open as normal - most teachers are in the other teachers' unions and those in the NUT are not striking.

DD's high school is closing though.

heard nothing as of yet. It was thier first day back today. I may get a letter tonight. ;)

We were warned yesterday that the head was number crunching to see what she could do but they confirmed this morning that no school on Thursday - DD is in reception and I was going with them on an outing to a plant nursery for their topic work - they will probably miss this trip altogether now as they are on a new topic this term :sad1: It was the only appointment with the nursery that their teacher could secure months ago. DD loves this subject and is really green fingered, she's going to be really upset as I was going too - she was very excitied.

That's a real shame for you and DD. I'm sure the advise on the NUT website was that if you have a school outting organised for that day that you shouldn't strike. I would have to read through the FAQ to double check but there were several scenarios where the union suggests that you shouldn't join the strike. Teachers with training courses or those in their final year of teaching were advised not to join in. I am certain that the same advice was given for those with school trips planned.

Thanks for the advice Mrs Hobbes :flower3:
It's lovely to hear that you're staying at work. I'm lucky I don't have to work and I can probably take DD to the plant nursery myself in the afternoon, but I would be mad  if I found out about this at the eleventh hour and had to arrange childcare so I could go to work.
I've tried to get onto the NUT website to check it out and guess what ! It's down - how convenient!
I may sound grumpy about this strike and some more experienced parents with school age children are probably thinking "chill out" but I suffered greatly during the teacher strikes of the 80's and I don't want my girls' education to suffer in the same way.

I am NAWUST my school is open, supply staff are covering missing staff.
will spend the day moderating course work for GCSEs.
yrs 9 and 11 are still in.

Tracy

p.s alot of teachers on the dis, or is it me?

I'm an NUT member but I have chosen not to strike.

All the NUT members at my school (including myself) decided not to strike. I teach year 6 and this close to their SATs I didn't want them to have a day without being taught.

Another good person thinking of the children.x.

My school is doing it oddly on thursday. Years 7, 8 and 9 get the day off, years 10 and 11 have exams and years 12 and 13 have to come in for lessons with teachers who aren't striking....

Gladly, my teachers are not in, one striking and the other on a course, in other words DAY OFF! To do maths work....
