Teacher forced to resign over inappropriate pics on her phone. Something is just wrong here

I'll add; If a child takes a police officers sidearm from his holster and shoots people, we should blame the cop and let the kid off. Hall duty is something most teachers have dealt with, you monitor the hallways while students go into your room. A teacher can not be expected to cover two areas at once, nor should he/she be expected to carry all personal items around on them.

For those persecuting the teacher, would you feel the same if the teacher had left their coffee on her desk and this kid put something in it? Instead he stole from her, hacked into her personal life, participated in distribution and corruption of minors, and gets a spanking while she will suffer. Consider how you would feel if someone invaded your privacy. I doubt any adult has nothing to be worried about being exposed to coworkers or family.

This should only be an issue to the little bastard who, by my count, is due for 3-7 years if tried as an adult. If teachers are held to this level of conduct I better not see any at a beach or pool unless they're in a full sundress, and never at a restaurant the serves alcohol.

How about we only require that they carry around the personal items that contain nude pictures? Or that they secure them properly in their room?

No argument about throwing the book at the student though.

It has been noted the picture was locked and had to be hacked by the student. I suppose a better analogy would be if I broke into a locked car, and drove it over someone.
There is a level of assumed responsibility. No teacher should leave a playboy magazine sitting on their desk. If you own a firearm it should be locked. Dangerous chemicals and drugs need to be locked away from children too, but by the age of 16 I had found my dads stash of magazines and where he hid the key to his gun safe. I won't change anyones mind, but let he who is without sin cast the first blah blah blah

I'm still skeptical. Just how did he hack in past her password in the short time she was watching the hallway during passing time?

The best person in my IT department is 20 and never went to college. When I need my Tor home moved I have my 14 year old nephew to do it. If I need a simple 4\quad numeric password cracked, two or three minutes tops

Plus time to find and take photos of her photos.

Still skeptical.

But we can agree that if it went down as you describe and she did indeed have the photos password protected, then she should get her job back.

After this level of humiliation and violation of privacy I doubt she would want to return. Tell me that no lawyer has contacted her by now. From theft and violation of private property on the student/patents to a wrongful termination, liable, slander with malicious intent, she would have a good case. Truth is she will find it hard to ever find another job teaching because of this.

OMG, just peeking in to see just how long and just how ridiculous this thread has become, with those trying to defend their positions.
The DIS has great entertainment value!!!

WOW... Any commissioned officer who were to leave their firearm in public, not adequately secured... which is exactly what this teacher did with their smartphone, (the only fair analogy here) would ABSOLUTELY be held accountable, in a very very serious way.

WOW...still blaming the teacher; no surprise here.

No it was not the best idea to have nudes on your phone!. Now that said, the student stole the phone and posted the photos, not only should he be disciplined at school, but face thief charges and I would sue his parents!

While the teacher may face some discipline, I don't see that she should be fired.

Up here in the north we teach respect for others property. Are there thefts, sure there are but in places like classrooms a teacher can reasonably expect that their personal property will be respected in a classroom full of people.

Yeah we do down here too. The vast majority of kids in dd's high school respect their teachers enough that they don't touch whatever is on the teacher's desk. Period.

And dd says that most of her peers in school would have been all over the guy for messing with the teacher's stuff. They respect things like cell phone prviacy because they expect it.

Her phone, her business. The boy should have been disiplined not the teacher.
