Your thoughts on this?

She did some stupid stuff here:

She should not have had them to begin with
She should not have left the phone out for the taking.
She should have had a pass code.
She should not have left the kids unsupervised.

She is victim here, I just don't see how they could have asked her to resign. I don't think she is in the wrong here. The kid should be expelled.

We don't know that no disciplinary action will be brought against the student. He does deserve disciplinary action, maybe a criminal theft charge, and maybe even a minor sex crime charge if he was distributing the pictures to minors (other students)

That being said, she brought pornography to school.

That's a good point on him being charged with distribution to minors! She was an idiot, that is true, but I don't think she should have been asked to resign over this.... I could see resigning over embarrassment though.

The kid should be punished, if the school doesn't do it his parents certainly should. Under no circumstances is theft allowed, period. Should she have had the pictures on her phone? You assume your phone is private but we all know it isn't and she probably shouldn't have left it where the students could get to it while she was gone. They are kids and, well, kids will be kids. But it wasn't like the phone was sitting there with the pictures up, like she said, he had to go through a number of menus to get to them. While she may be guilty of a little bit of stupidity, that would be all she was guilty of. What one does in ones private life is not the school's business. Just for the record, the story said partially nude, not nude so it's possible she had on lingerie.

When I heard the story on my TV news this morning, they actually did say the student had not been disciplined, which I think is ridiculous! He stole a phone, and posted private photos that he did not take on line.

She should certainly not be bringing photos like that to school (and I probably wouldn't want my child in her class) but the kid should be in serious trouble here as well. We cannot let kids think it's OK to just go through other people's stuff!

The story on the news this morning had an interview with her. She was making excuses and blaming it all on the student. True, what he did was wrong as he shouldn't have been plundering through her phone anyway, but she shouldn't have left it out either. I would imagine that she didn't think a student would mess with her stuff though. She also said that she was told he would be expelled for a few days but that hadn't happened yet. I do think he'd be in a world of trouble if he was mine though. lol. I think they were both at fault.

I'm not sure I would go so far as the PP that said they wouldn't want their child in her class though. You really don't know what goes on with any teachers behind closed doors.

I think its reasonable for her to have an expectation of privacy on her own personal cell phone, especially when she did not give someone else permission or authorization to access it. That being said, I can see where the school may have felt they were forced to ask her to resign. How can anyone, including her, be comfortable with her continuing to work there after the students have seen that and the parents have known about it?

What about this story has made you come to the conclusion that you wouldn't want your child in her class?

And she should be blaming it all on the student, he stole her phone and distributed private photos of her.

So I am assuming the student didn't know they were pics of his teacher on the phone, so what was he looking for? What else would have happened if he had not stumbled on the racy pics?

I wonder if was he out to do harm to the teacher in some way by stealing the phone and just got lucky with pictures.

i would think this is likely true. I work for a major corporation and there is a code of conduct I need to live by even off the clock.

Does it include never being partially nude? Or not taking a picture of yourself partially nude?

I think this whole thing is ridiculous. The student should be punished. I don't think the teacher did anything wrong (however, if she was going to leave her phone at all unattended around kids, she should have a passcode on it).

I am sorry, I have no sympathy for her. I just don't.

Moral of the story, if you do not want nude pics of you to be seen, either do not take them or delete them.

Que the Puritans... There is nothing wrong with having sexy photos of yourself. There is nothing wrong with keeping them on your private phone. The little turd kid stoleg this teacher's phone and and distributed her private photos. He ought to be expelled for that.

I'm team teacher on this one. We should be proud of our bodies and our sexuality and she should not be slut-shamed or whatever for having nude photos.

I can have some sympathy for her because I really don't see it as "immoral" to have those sorts of pictures of yourself to give to your husband.

That being said, she basically left inappropriate material in a place where students could access it, not all that different than having a file folder of inappropriate material in an unlocked desk drawer. Should they have been picking up her phone and viewing her private information? No, of course not. So in that regards she is a victim. But at the same time those pictures should not have been accessible to her students and when she left the unlocked phone in a place where they could easily access it, she started the whole thing rolling.

Really I do think termination is a harsh result, her ability to control a class of adolescents with that common knowledge lurking in the background is severely hampered. I hope she can get another job somewhere where this won't follow her around.
