Tattoos

Seriously NO ONE has a meaningful tattoo...

So not true!! I have 2 meaningful tattoos!

My 1st tat is 2 letters that stand for 4 people
My 2 sons me and my husband! And my other tattoo is my maiden name in Italian colors my family is very important and meaningful to me!

My first one I picked off the boards in the tattoo shop.. second one a friend and I went and got matching butterflies on the top of our feet.

DH and I are planning on putting each other first initial on our ring fingers this fall.

I also want to get song lyrics from my favorite band on my other foot.ankle but havent decided which one yet.

I am still waiting to get my tattoo. I have not changed my mind in 3+ years, so I must have chosen a good one.

I want to get a small red apple on my ankle or shoulder. #1, because I am from Washington state, and #2 because I am somewhat of a Twi-hard. I think I can live the rest of my life with that tattoo. I even have the template picked out from a photo online.

Seriously NO ONE has a meaningful tattoo...

;):rotfl:

I have one on my left shoulder. It's a tatoo of a champagne glass. I do have great memories of getting it though. Me, my sister and my bf decided to take a girl trip to New Orleans long, long, long time ago and one night we decided to all get tatoos Of course we were 3 sheets to the wind when we came up with this brillant idea.

There seems to be quite a bit of misunderstanding on this thread ....

The OP first stated this...

Anyone have them? If so, do they have a special meaning/story behind it? I am about to turn 22 and hope to get my first one on or around my birthday. The one I want has special meaning to me and is a reminder of my struggles I went through my first year and a half of college and a constant reminder to always stay strong.......

Then after a time of no response the OP posted this under the original message:

Seriously NO ONE has a meaningful tattoo...

Which I take to mean "what? NO ONE else has a meaningful tattoo?"
I think the OP just worded it wrong. Then again maybe the OP changed her/his mind between original post and second post :confused3

Wow, I had no idea that there was a law saying that tattoos needed to be placed on body parts in such a manner that they'd be seen even when a person is fully dressed. Thanks for that.

I have six tattoos. When wearing even a pair of jeans and a simple t-shirt, none of them are visible.

OP, one of my tattoos in particular is very meaningful; it's a saying which I think of when I'm at a point in life when things get tough. It reminds me to not give up and keep battling. You'll know in your heart when a tattoo idea feels right for you.

The OP said she was getting it on her wrist. Unless she is a vet wearing full length gloves for inseminating dairy cows, it is going to show at some point......

My first one was my logo. The design was commissioned by my Wife to be engraved on a custom shift knob.

It's also on my car, along with the license plate that started it all.

I got the plate in the late '90s for a car that had squirrels living in the air vents. It became my screen name and my nickname.

However it was not a terribly well done tattoo, and after one last person said "Hey Scooby Doo!" I decided to make a change. Prior to that my Wife had found a wonderful artist here in Michigan after she moved up from Tennessee. I saw his work on her and then got my left arm done.

No particular significance, just beautiful colorful art. If anything it represents the fact that since I met the woman I would marry in 2008, my life has changed completely and I can now be and do anything I want.

So back to the squirrel, after I got the incredible work on my left arm, I wanted something better and more extensive on my right. So this was done within the past year.

The old logo is under there somewhere. I might get him put back on my shin or something in the future.

I have one, and yes, it is meaningful, and also yes, it is in an area that is more than easily covered when I don't feel like displaying it.

OP, I have one word of advice. Don't get anything inked onto your body that you don't want to see when you are 90 years old. Yep, when you are NINETY! Just think about that a minute - what will your tattoo look like when you are old, living in wrinkled, well-worn skin that has sagged, freckled and bagged and you can't be bothered to wax or shave anymore. Think, think, and then go away and think again about where and what you want to put on yourself! And then go do it and enjoy it.

Your tattoo will be PERMANENT. Yes yes, you can technically get it removed later if you wanted, but from my understanding, it's three times more painful and success is not assured. I personally think there is absolutely no rush - ever - to get a tattoo. If it is meaningful now, it should be just as meaningful a year, two years, five years from now. Take your time.

Also, my tattoo guy very kindly printed some temporary stencils for me, so I was able to stick them on different spots on my body - I had a dry run of what it would be like to look at, cover / not cover, etc. That helped too, you might ask your artist and see if he or she will do this for a small charge.

Good luck!

I have a tiny Tigger on my back that reminds me to keep a sense of whimsy and wonder in my life.

I really would like to get one that incorporates a Neil Gaiman quote that has gotten me through some really tough times the past few years but I'm not entirely sure where to get it that would be relatively unobtrusive and somewhat tasteful. The quote is: “Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly.” but I would just get the last sentence

I have a butterfly on my back, to me it represents me spreading my wings and growing into someone I want to be. I would like to get a Celtic knot somewhere, I considered my wrist but I'm just not sure that's where I want it, I've also considered my ankle and having a vine added. I would also like to get something that incorporates my kids but I haven't figured that part out yet.

I just got a tattoo (something I never thought about doing).

But after being with my husband for 30 years and married for 25, I decided to put his initials on my left ring finger.

I love it ! I am the only person in the world with this on my finger.

He loved it too! He was quite surprised when he came home from work and I showed it to him.

I like that if I forget to put my wedding rings on there is still something there always.

I have three.

The first one I got was I was 23. It's on the left side of my chest. If I wear a low cut shirt, you can see it. But since I never wear low cut shirts, I don't have that problem. It's a red heart, with a long stemmed rose going through it (instead of an arrow). My SIL started "doing" tattoos and needed some practice, so I let her use me as a guinea pig. It didn't come out too bad, but 18yrs later, it could use some work. I still like it though.

On my right ankle I have a black scroll like design with a small red heart in the middle. Sometimes I like that one, sometimes I don't.

And then I have a vine tattoo around my whole left ankle. Right above the inside and outside ankle, I have 3 flowers.

I had been thinking of getting another one the past couple of years but not sure of what I wanted. I was thinking of getting something small on the inside of my left wrist. Now, since my dad passed away 3 weeks ago, my brother, sister and I want to get a matching tattoo but we just can't figure out what to get. This one will have the most meaning to me though.

First off, all very interesting stories...thanks so much for sharing! I have enjoyed reading them....second, I apologize if my second post in this thread annoyed/bothered or offended anyone. I just get annoyed/bothered a lot because threads I post seem to never get a response....:) :confused3

I was the first to start the "hating" trend -- my sincere apologies -- I didn't see who wrote the 2nd post -- just the contents !

Just so many people on here have opinions about tattoos, just because they don't like them --

I have had 4...but one is covered, so I guess I technically have 3. One is a wicked red rose on my hip, one is 2 purple lillies on a vine on my right shoulderblade (it's rather large) and the last one is a Japanese symbol with very personal meaning on the back of my neck. My dkids want to know what it means SOOO BAD, but I told them they can find out at the reading of my will. ;) Anyway, the covered up one is a shooting star that the guy did upside down (if that makes any sense). So 3 fanciful and 1 meaningful. And there is at least one more that I would like to get.
DD1 has "Que Sera, Sera" on her forearm (among others)...when my mom (who's 82) saw it, she was :scared1:. DD said "But Mimi, you used to sing that song to me all the time when I was little...I got it because of you!" It still didn't go over very well.
DD2 has quite a few..some I like, some I don't.
DS wants one...a heart with "Mom" in it. How could I not let him get that? :lmao: Kidding...he's still only 16.
DH, who LOOKS like he should have them, has none!

I have two and while my first one dosen't have that deep of a meaning (it's on my lower back and it's just a band of flowers and a ladybug on one of it's petals - my nick name is ladybug).

However my second one I got this year is very meaningful. Last year I lost my dat suddenly and two days after he died my mum found out just how bad her stage one breast cancer spread (to both her lungs, liver and bones) and she died 90 days after my dat.

So, on the inside of my left wrist I have a pink ribbon with my mum's name on it and on the inside of the loop I have the number 12 - my dat played semi-pro football and his jersey number was 12. So yes....my tattoo has special meaning. I plan to get a scripted letter "L" with a little 3 to the right of it so it will look like the letter "L" to the 3rd power. My name is La Toya my oldest is London and my youngest is Lizzybeth.

I admit I am not a fan of tattoos. That said, I don't care what you do to your body.

I don't understand why some people with tats insist I have something against them for having them. I don't. I also don't understand why the attitude. I've had my niece and others say things about their own tats thinking that is what I think. I don't get that at all. I've never said anything.

Now for a question: what do you do or say when someone gets a horrible tattoo? I don't mean in placement or in subject matter, I mean when the "artist" isn't an artist at all and what is supposed to be Minnie Mouse comes off looking like a scary clown?

That's is a tough one. Since my Wife and I have very visible, very well done tattoos, lots of people stop us to comment and then show us theirs. Many are very bad. You just smile and nod.

I have 6.
I have a small pink butterfly on my left ankle, a heart on my right wrist, the word Believe on my left wrist, family infinity on my right forearm. The two that have the most meaning are the 4 stars on my left shoulder for my 4 boys, each star in their fave color. And a red rose on my foot in memory of my dad.

I have two. A bird I got when I was 19 and a butterfly when I was 25 (I'm 30 now). Neither of them really are inspired by anything other than that moment in time. I like both of them, but they're small and on my back area so the only way I ever see them is in the mirror. I don't regret them because they've never prevented me from getting a job or something like that. People always told me "I hate tattoos. Can you imagine what it's going to look like when you're 85?" I think I'm going to have bigger things to think about and life reflections to concern myself with at 85 than how my skin looks.
