Anyone have them? If so, do they have a special meaning/story behind it? I am about to turn 22 and hope to get my first one on or around my birthday. The one I want has special meaning to me and is a reminder of my struggles I went through my first year and a half of college and a constant reminder to always stay strong. It is also a dedication to my hero/role model/idol whose music and platform (anti-bullying, especially cyber bullying) literally saved me during those terrible years. For those who aren't familiar, I was harrassed/bullied during my first two years of school due to my love of Disney. The tattoo I am getting is Demi Lovato's signature heart (tiny, in black) on my wrist. It will be a constant reminder to me of Demi's role in getting me through the toughest point in my (almost) 22 years of life.

Here is a pic of it:

Slightly above the heart I want to get the words "Stay Strong" written in Disney script...

Seriously NO ONE has a meaningful tattoo...

No -- YOU don't have a meaningful tattoo. Thanks for your opinion. :hippie:

i have a few meaningful and a few fanciful tattoos.

On my left forearm , i have Asymmetrical text -- when i look at it from my point of view, it reads Choice. When another person looks at it from thier point of view, it says Destiny. it (obviously) represents my belief that MY choices lead me to where i am today, while others believe it was my destiny to be where I am today.

I also have my childrens initials tattoo'd on my calfs (one on each) -- i got them when i was first separated from their mother, and she was fighting for full custody, and trying to prevent me from spending time with the kids (since resolved and we are good friends now). but they represent my children are my reason for continuing on.

I also have an ornamental question mark which represents the unknown (also related to my divorce, as i had always thought we had a great relationship up to the point we split up).

I have 9 right now, hoping to get number 10 at some point in the next month or two. I have:

rib cage, left side. Michigan is home.

These two are because music means the world to me.

outer right ankle, not a ton of meaning, just really like stars and spend a lot of time looking up. also have five stars wrapped around my left wrist/forearm.

and my back. neck is a celtic tree of like, im irish and also believe in the whole circle of life thing.
shoulder blade is mickey with the word believe written in disney font, to remind to me to always believe in magic, happily ever after, and to look at the world with innocence and wonder as often as possible.
lower back is the symbol for rain, big fan of nature and love storms.

10 is going to be the Tolkien quote "not all those who wander are lost" on the top/side of my left foot

I have 2. One on my ankle is a 4 leaf clover with a butterfly on top. Just because I'm Irish and I love butterflies :goodvibes I believe it has also brought me luck in the 2 years I've had it. I've won about $3,000 from the lottery since. :thumbsup2

The one on my back is the meaningful one... It is a butterfly with my daughters foot prints as the wings and her name written down the center of the butterfly. :cloud9:

I plan on getting another sometime soon... I want to get a half-sleeve with the Earth on my shoulder and work around with some of the other planets. Very excited!!

I have 7 of them. 6 are dots from when I radiation ro beat my cancer. The 7th is obvisouly my favorite and has two shamrocks with a celtic cross. (I am 100% Irish.) This is on my left shoulder blade above the scar from when they removed my lung.

I have been thinking about adding to it now that I am at he 10 year mark of recovery!

My tattoo is now 3 weeks old. I had been thinking about getting one for over 5 years. Lots of thought went into what I wanted to live with for the rest of my life. I love nature, and I wanted DH and my initials in it. Actually, 2 other friends went along and got one as well. Team effort;) One got butterflies on her foot with her grandchildren's initials hidden in the wings. The other friend got a sunflower to represent her mother (deceased), 2 butterflies to represent her children, and a bee for her husband.

Here it is the night that I got it.

No kidding... :thumbsup2

I have a tiny tattoo on my inner wrist. It says "forever" in my mum's handwriting. It might not be meaningful to anyone else, but it means a heck of a lot to me.

I think you misinterpreted that quote. That was the OP bumping her thread, not someone putting down tattoos. I think it was supposed to read more as a question: "Seriously, NO ONE has a meaningful tattoo?"

Personally, I don't care for tattoos, so I don't have any. But I have seen some that are really artistic, and I know that many people do have a lot of sentiment attached to their tattoo(s). Good luck, OP, and congratulations to you for coming through a challenging time of your life!

No one will ever form an instant, negative opinion of you for NOT having a tattoo. Some will instantly disregard you as a job candidate for having a tattoo.

I have 4 tattoos (so far).

Pooh was my first tattoo. He reminds me of my childhood. I recently had Eeyore added. Tigger and Piglet will be next.

Tinkerbell is just because I love her.

Love Mickey and Minnie.

My most meaningful tattoo. Represents me and my kids.

Wow, I had no idea that there was a law saying that tattoos needed to be placed on body parts in such a manner that they'd be seen even when a person is fully dressed. Thanks for that.

I have six tattoos. When wearing even a pair of jeans and a simple t-shirt, none of them are visible.

OP, one of my tattoos in particular is very meaningful; it's a saying which I think of when I'm at a point in life when things get tough. It reminds me to not give up and keep battling. You'll know in your heart when a tattoo idea feels right for you.

I would like a small tattoo but being on Coumadin (blood thinner) I can't. :( Plus I would probably be too chicken even if I could!

My son-in-law has a large tattoo of a photo of their son on his upper arm, and he's planning to have a photo of their daughter put on his other arm soon, this one with color as their daughter has beautiful, long red hair. :)

They are very "meaningful" tattoos to him.

My oldest granddaughter has a tattoo of 3 musical notes behind her right ear. She is very involved in choir (both when she was in high school, and now that she is in college as well) so it reminds her of all the good times she has had with that.

Our son has a tattoo on his right arm, of a ram with words, in another language (I forget what though) meaning "to thine own self be true." He had it done after a particularly bad breakup/divorce to always remind himself to be true to himself. Very "meaningful" to him as well.

Our daughter has a small red heart tattooed above her hip, I don't think it has any real "meaning" to her though. I think she just wanted a tattoo. :)

I would bet money (not a lot of money, but some) that's what the poster meant.

Unfortunately, what Green Tea posted is accurate, even if she didn't feel the need to state what most people could see was obvious - that she was referring to visible tattoos.

I know some people who view others with tattoos in a negative light, and I think that anyone considering getting one should be fully informed. That doesn't make it right that some people judge based on that, but it is reality.

That's why you get them in places where no employer should ever see :thumbsup2 My tattoo is on my mid-back and it's my name in kanji under a cherry blossom branch. The downside to placing it there is that I never see it, and I've had it for so long that I sometimes forget it's even there.

Seriously NO ONE has a meaningful tattoo...

Given that business is booming for tattoo removal, for a lot of people, what was once a meaningful tattoo, isn't any longer.

A couple of observations. If you are planning on working in an office setting, many companies still have strict tattoo policies that either say they are not allowed or that they must be covered at all times. This should make anyone stop a moment and consider the placement of an tatoo they get.

Secondly, IMHO, tatoos are such a craze that it seems everyone and their Granny are getting them. Not having one seems to be more out of the ordinary than having them. Kind of strange that something that used to be a sort of "rebel" thing is now on everyone age 18 to 800.

I have one and am planning on at least 1 more.

Currently I have a crescent moon, along the rounded edge of it there is text that reads "I love you to the moon and back, and back again" and then I have 6 colored stars surrounding it - 4 smaller stars for the babies I lost to m/c and then 2 bigger stars for my sons!

My next one will be from a letter my dad sent me. Just, "Love, Dad". Think I will be getting it either on my wrist or on my chest, above my heart.

Then I want an infinity symbol with some text intertwined into it..
