Taste of Water at Fountains in Disney

Anyone ever notice that the water from the fountains in the MK tastes like rotten eggs (sulphur), while the water from the fountains in the other 3 parks and the hotel we stayed at (POFQ) tasted normal?

You can always tell when people take their first drink from a fountain in the MK. Just watch their faces.

I first thought it was another Disney conspiracy to get you to buy more $2.5/bottle water, but the quality at the other parks is much better.

Any thoughts?

We thought that the water all over the Orlando area tasted like swamp water. I didn't notice any appreciable difference between MK and the other parks. We found it all undrinkable.

I wonder if it because MK is the oldest park and the pipes have more mineral buildup in them than the other parks. My hubby noticed it also when we were there in June. He didn't mind the water at Pop Century, but couldn't drink it a MK. Just a thought.

I noticed that the water at the other parks (other than MK) tends to be cooler to. While the MK water seems to always be luke warm. Go figure.

Anytime I ever go anywhere their water always smells, tastes, or feels funny. yes I do mean feels, my dh family is from Mississippi and their water feels like you still have soap all over you, I guess it's softer than the water here in Pensacola, Fl. I just think that it is like that wherever you go and drink water that you aren't used to. My dh and I sometimes go to the casinos in Biloxi, Ms and we hardly ever get the free drinks cause the water/ice tastes so bad. But, to me all water at WDW tasted funny, so we brought Dasani bottles with us and drank those.

I'm always out of luck at Disney World. I just have a thing with drinking fountains. I'm usually not a germ-phobic, but drinking fountains just skeeve me out.

And I hate Dasani Water!!! :p

Have to bring my own water if I have any intention of drinking anything other than Coke in the parks. :)

All Florida water tastes like sulphur to me. Can hardly stand to brush my teeth in the hotel!!! We bring bottled water.:drinking: :drinking:

Ok, I'll be the oddball here. I have absolutely no problem with the water at Disney. Neither does anyone in my family or anyone else who I have ever traveled there with. We drink the water all the time. Saves a ton of money over buying soda or bottled water. We refuse to buy bottled water anywhere actually. I think its a huge marketing scam. We drink the water at the restaurants. We drink the water from the fountains. We drink the water at the hotels.

My family and I have a problem with the Disney water. I haven't noticed a difference with each park, they all had that warm smelly water.
I didn't bring bottled water this trip, and I was dying for a glass of cold, decent water. I found it at mama melrose, where the CM said they double-filter their water. But be warned...we ate at the Concourse Steakhouse at the CR, and when the server brought the water, I could smell it so strongly that it made my stomach turn, I asked her to take it away, and she brought water from the soda machine, saying it might be better. Not!

We lived on lemonade while in the parks, which I'm sure was made with the same horrible water, but at least we couldn't taste it or smell it.

I've found the tap/fountain water to be hit and miss but I generally don't like it. Actually, I've noticed that the sulphur smell/taste gets worse after it rains.

Well no wonder, you're from Jersey! :teeth: j/k

I actually LIKE the water, that taste lets me know I am actually in Disney.

As many posters here have suggested, we bought and used a Britta water filter bottle while at the parks this July. You fill it with tap/fountain water and it contains a self-filter. We used it easily and never had a problem. I found it on sale at K-mart for half the price that I saw it at Walmart. I also bought a water bottle fanny pack at Target which I used to carry it in. Very convenient and handy for the hot Florida days!:sunny:

The water is ok when it's cold, but when it's warm I can't drink it. And when it has been in my bottle for a while it tastes like candy floss (but a horrible one)

I was born and raised in Philly. What part of the city are you in? I'm from the Northeast.

Born and raised in Lawncrest, living in the far FAR Northeast now, about 300 yards away from Bucks County- my DH says he can hit Bensalem with one bounce off a 3-iron.

I like the way you think! That sounds like a good reason to me, you would think that they would have a way to flush them though.

You'd think that WDW could have some sort of cold infused filtration system for all their drinking fountains, but if they did that it would certainly cut out some of their bottled water sales, so there is probably no such luck of that, but to people that live in that area, the water is probably pretty normal to them. WHo knows, I know the water tastes nasty and smells funny to me. We will definitely be bringing bottled water with us.

Silly me... when I was there on my last minute solo trip july 4th (woohoo!!), I had a bottle of water that I had purchased that I thought I'd top off from a water fountain when it was half empty... my bad. had to throw the whole bottle out then! LOL
Yeah, I think the water is pretty gross. I'd only drink it in an emergency. I'll pay for dasani gladly. :)

I live in Sussexshire, England, which apparently has the 'nicest' tap water in the world (goodness knows how they found that out), so the fountain water in WDW came as a bit of a shock, let me tell you...
