Target return policy ??? any employees?

Bumping this for another specific question, that I hope someone can help.

In May, we bought a small TV for our kitchen and suddenly it isn't working.
Naturally we can't find the receipt, grrrrrrrrrr :mad::mad:

We have almost every receipt we've ever had, I kid you not, except that one.
And the box is long gone.

Called the company and the won't do anything because it only has only a 90 day warranty!! :scared1:

So is there any chance Target would look up the transaction with the CC, and accept it as a return (even at the sale price) and then return to the manufacturer as defective? It was approx $200.

Or are we just out of luck?:mad::confused:

Any advice appreciated!

:goodvibes

I believe Target's return policy is only within 90 days, so if you're out of warranty then you most likely are out of the return window as well.

Did you pay with a credit card? If you can find the transaction on an old credit card statement, the credit card company may be able to help you get a receipt reprinted.

Also, sometimes your credit card will double manufacturer's warranties as a perk. You would need a receipt for that to work though.

Yeah, can't believe its only 90 days. Had we realized that, we wouldn't have bought it. Stupid on our part :( :(

I know, and we just can't find it. So mad because we usually have all of those. Grrrr.....

Since you bought it in May I highly doubt the tv's still in the system. The smaller tvs get changed out more often than the bigger ones do. But in all liklihood since you are 5 months past purchase, your receipt would be long gone. Even if the tv isn't. I haven't done Guest services in several years, though i don't figure there's any harm in trying. My daily job at Target is Instocks, so i know more about inventory than the return programs on the register.

Thanks for the reply.

The whole thing is just so frustrating. It shouldn't have broken in 5 months, especially when not used every day and isn't mistreated. The company (MEMOREX) should ALSO stand behind it, IMO, because it was $200+ and it's only 5 months old! But mostly, I'm livid at myself, that I can't find the receipt! I mean, I never lose receipts. Usually. SIGH....:mad::mad:

Any other ideas anyone? I'm soo sad ....

Target service desk employee here... Reciept look up on a credit card and paper reciepts are good for 90 days. After 90 days it would be a no reciept return.

No reciept return policies have been updated and some folks have given you outdated information. Currently, without a reciept you will get the lowest marked price in 90 days if it is still in the system... As store credit. If it is already cleared from the system nothing...

If you get store credit, you show your ID. Off that Id you can return up to $70 a year.

Purchasing from the same dept or only 2 returns is outdated information.

The official policy that you see at the registers will always state returns must be processed with a reciept for 90 days. Doing no-reciept returns is an exception to the official rule. From time to time, Target will update how to do no-reciept returns... But they juggle that line between customer service and fraud (and trust me a lot of fraud passes thru!)

Thank you! This helps me. I just found a bag with some of that spanx-alike underwear that I bought for an event back in JUNE! I didn't wear the undies, never took the tags off 'em or anything. I'm going to look 'em up. If Target still sells them, back they go tomorrow!

Did you use a credit card for the purchase? If so, go to your credit card company who should be able to provide you with a copy of the receipt...since its only 5 months old.

The real issue, though, is that it wasn't broken "out of the box". Most stores will take back merchandise that doesn't work immediately...but you used it for 5 months. You can't return it as "new, just out of the box"...since you don't have the box anymore. Stores will tell you that if the product isn't working, you need to contact the manufacturer for their warranty service, which you now know would be fruitless since its out of warranty.

Methinks you've learned a valuable lesson, twofold. One...be sure and save receipts for high-ticket items and two...check warranty periods before making electronics purchases.
