I was just about to apply for a Target Red Card to get my 5% off of Disney gift cards. I noticed that you can't buy them at a discounted rate any longer. Is this true? Has anyone purchased them recently? :confused3

5% discount applies to eligible purchases minus any other discounts and the value of any promotional Target gift cards received in the transaction. Target reserves the right to discontinue or alter the terms of this program at any time. 5% discount does not apply to the following:

Prescriptions, Target Clinic® services and Target Optical® eye exams
Target gift cards and prepaid cards
Previous purchases
Target credit account payments, Target Debit Card cash back and cash advances on the Target® Visa® Credit Card
Target Commercial Interiors® purchases
Gift wrap and shipping and handling charges on Target.com purchases
Where otherwise prohibited by law

"Target Gift Cards" refers to cards that are specifically for Target. Disney Gift Cards are considered "Entertainment Cards" by Target, so the exclusion does not apply. In other words, you do get 5% off on Disney cards when you purchase them with your Target Redcard.

Of note, you used to be able to add on the 5% pharmacy rewards discount, but many posters here have said that is no longer possible.

We often buy our Disney Cards at Kroger, when they do a 4X fuel points promotion. $250 purchase yields 1000 points, which is $1 off per gallon on a single tank of gas, up to 35 gallons. With a 20 gallon tank, that could save $19 (assuming the car doesn't die as you pull up to the fuel pump). So a $250 investment yields $19 savings, or about 7.6%

Hi there!
I just purchased two over the weekend using my target red card and had no problems!

Hi there!
I just purchased two over the weekend using my target red card and had no problems!

We've been buying multiple cards over the last few months to apply to our current reservations. Last month we bought $500 in Disney gift cards with our Red Card ($475). Then came home an applied them to our reservation.

target gift cards are just the store cards and the prepaid cards are the visa/amex gift cards; works on the disney gift cards!

We do this as well. I take fuel cans so that I can get the full 35 gallons. Then DH fills his car at home from the cans. The savings work out to 14% if you get the max 35 gallons.

Also, the AMEX Blue Preferred card gives you 6% back in grocery purchases (up to $6K/year). Gift cards count since you purchase them at a grocery store. The Preferred card has a yearly fee, but its worth it for that 6%. As an alternative, the AMEX Blue Everyday card gives you 3% back in grocery purchases (up to $6K/year), and there is no fee. We have both cards.

You can still get the 5% off the Disney cards. I just did it yesterday. As pp stated, you can no longer use the pharmacy rewards on the cards though!

SAMs or other warehouse clubs also sell them at a discount. I buy walmart GC with my Disney Premier rewards which gives me 2% at WM (considered grocery) and use them to buy disney GC at SAMs at around 4-7% depending on what they have.

Thanks for sharing that is a really interesting proposition, forgot about the % savings for grocery stores, b/c I always looked at only the gas savings portion which I didn't really think was worth it b/c 1) Kroger isn't always the cheapest so your savings could be less than you think 2) Gas points expire monthly so you wouldn't want to load up on the cards at kroger b/c you'd never use up all the points... but I can see if you bought a handful during the promo times how that would work.

Walmart is considered Grocery?

Yeah - I did the math on potential lost savings by going to another gas station and it was VERY small. Most of the time here, Kroger is very close to the cheapest - maybe a penny or two off. So that $1 off every time I fill up adds up quickly. Kroger typically has promos close to Easter, Father's Day, Back to School, and Thanksgiving. Then they offer special 4x promos from time to time (they have one going this weekend for example). It works well for us but takes some planning. You don't want to buy more gift cards than you can use in fuel points.

Walmart is not considered grocery for purposes of the Amex Blue cards - not sure about other cc's.

A poster on another thread suggested the following: Go through topcashback.com to purchase your Walmart cards on Cardpool at a discount. Topcashback gives you 2% back + Cardpool sells Walmart cards at a 3% discount. Then take the Walmart card to Sams and buy your Disney cards. Doing the math, it works out to about 9.4% off + whatever % back your credit card gives you. Crazy huh? You are limited to $1,000 in purchases though on topcashback, so it will only get you so far.
