Does anyone know if Target is going to do their Global Market home dec stuff this year?

I read an article that said Target was not going to have the Global Market this year due to the economy. They are supposed to be doing some bulk items (toilet paper, sets of towels, etc.) sort of like Costco. They are testing it to see how it does. They think they will have better sales because they will be focusing on items that people need rather than decorative things.

Oh bummer, the Great Save section is super ugly and not too exciting to me.

They do have some "world" type decorations in the bedding, etc area, globes, eifel towers, etc.

I always like the Global Market stuff too, but I never really bought any of it. I also noticed that most people didn't buy it until they marked it at least 50% off. I think they were just not making any money on it.

You are absolutely right -- plus, for those of you not frequenting Target on a regular basis, they are trying to convey the message to their guests that "hey, we also low prices on the things you need" (not a designer quilt!).

Hence, "The Great Save", which is meant to go head-to-head with the nation's warehouse club stores...

I love the global bazaar stuff! I got some GORGEOUS endtables there a few years ago for $30 a piece that I just love. Solid wood and absolutely beautiful. My living room is decorated in a "British West Indies"/Safari vintage travel theme and that stuff always goes so well!

We are struggling financially this year due to a job layoff so I am kind of glad Target won't have that stuff to tempt me this year! I did enjoy it though!

Bo kidding! My Target only has towels, flip-flops, and HUGE packages of papertowels & tp. I think there may be a bin of sox and shampoo bottles that are too big to fit in your shower. I am not impressed! I think they could have done a far better job with the selection and display.

Nope, no Global Market this year... instead it is the "Great Save" it'll run through Feb 20 or so, then off to patio furniture

I was in Target earlier this week and in talking to the cashier, she said the stuff in the "mini-Sam's Club" was flying out of there. She said it was doing really well and asked if I had looked around that area.

I had not, as I was in a hurry and didn't have time to stop. I told her next time I'll stop in that area and look around and see what I think. :)

I read an article and it stated that they were losing money on it and that in this economy they didn't feel that people would be looking to spend money on it, but instead look for more practical things for their homes.
Almost all my bedroom accessories are from the GB line, but I bought them when they hit 75% off. No way would I spend full retail on it, its all cute but I think it was overpriced for the quality.

That is a real bummer!!!

I loved going through that section, admittedly I only bought when it went to 30%, but it was a highlight of my Target trips. I was there yesterday, and it seems like there were clearance tags all over that store! I got a couple good buys. ;)

So basically almost everyone who has responded that they liked the Global Bazaar has also said they didn't buy any of it until it was 30-75% off... any wonder that Target is doing something different this year? :)

There is a whole culture of people never paying full retail, Target is fully aware of us ;)
I have no problem with the new Great Save, in fact I'm looking foward to Feb 21 when they start clearancing out all that stuff to make way for the summer outdoor merchandise. I'll be stocking up when those red stickers show up, just like I did with the Global Bazaar :thumbsup2

I noticed yesterday that they don't have any Valentines Day stuff out - I asked and they said check back in a week. For a store that had a Christmas aisle before Halloween - I thought it was weird that Valentines lost out to the "bulk pkg" items.

True! My store only has a small Valentine's day on various endcaps throughout the store.
