Tansportation from resort to IOA?

On our next trip we will be staying on disney property but plan on taking a day to see IOA for our son's. We are thinking on not geting a rental car for the day and instead take a taxi back and forth. Has any one else take a taxi to IOA and what did it cost you, if you don;t mind me asking?
Or do you think a rental car is better?

I just look at having a rental car for the day to sit in a parking lot while we are at the park.
