Talk to me about Annual Passes...

You will need to go to a Guest Relations location before you enter a park and have them "prioritize" your tickets so the AP is used for park entry and not the 2 day ticket. Then you can save the 2 day ticket for as long as you want. It will not expire until after it has been used to enter a park.

If I upgrade my 10 day PH tickets while there in the parks to an AP. Do you get the discount card off merchandise right then to use on that trip? (I think I read that your AP Magicbands have to be ordered after you get back home).

I guess I'm asking what do you get at the time you are standing there upgrading to an AP and what do you get later at home?

No. It will come with your AP MagicBands. You still get all your discounts, you will just show them the hard ticket AP and your ID to match.

Oh, so you get a hard ticket AP. I was thinking they would be just linked to the magicband I had for that trips 10 day tickets. Does that original MB work too for admission after upgrading or not until I get the AP Bands in the mail?

When I book Free Dining, I have the 2 day tickets included. When I get to the park the first day I go to Guest Relations: Have them make my AP the Priority Ticket that is used when I go in the gate. Each day I check MDE to make sure the 2 days was not touched and if it is go to GR to fix it. Then when I need to renew my AP I tell them I want them to use the 2 day ticket sitting in my account towards the cost of the AP.

I have heard some ask that the 2 Day Ticket be removed from their account and placed on a hard ticket. When renewing use that hard ticket to renew. One thing you should always do is look at your time between trips and the savings for the renewal. A few years it may have saved me XXX to renew but it cost me XXXX all the months I didn't use it until my next trip. On those years I let my AP expire and then just purchased a new full price at the time of my next trip.

Or you could just use the cost of the ticket towards the cost of your AP and 'upgrade.' I always make the time that I renew my AP be on that promotion.

A few things not mentioned:

Having an AP means that if you arrive to the resort at 4PM then you don't think about the cost of going to a park that evening - you just go.

It also means that if you go into a park and it's crazy busy, so busy where you don't really want to deal with it, that you just leave and not think about it (either go to another park or go find something else to do in Orlando).

I used to be a big fan of Tables in Wonderland but, as of late, I don't bother with it any longer because they kept raising the price on it. I think that the first year I got it it was $50. That was a deal. A year or two down the road and it was $75. Still a deal but not quite as much of one as before. The last time I got it I paid $100 and decided that it was the last time I was buying it. $100 up front means that I have to save at least $100 before it breaks even which kind of kills it for me.

Add it up, though, to see if it's worth it to you.

We used to call the TiW card 'BoB'... Break on Booze. It's a great deal if you purchase adult drinks.
I believe with a party of 8 this trip I'll still do well to get a TiW card even at $100. We're getting 2 APs anyway because we're staying offsite and so $170 of each of the APs is parking. The $100 will help in the occasional meals we're buying. Though it didn't work for the HDDR tix or Jedi meal at H+V.

Yes. My DS just did it last month. We purchased his AP at AAA to save some money which gave him a voucher. He linked voucher to his MDE to book FP+. When we arrived the first park day he went to a ticket window with the voucher and they exchanged it for his hard AP ticket and AP book. After our trip he was able to order his AP MagicBand and AP Discount card. Once the ticket is loaded to MDE it will be attached to all your active MagicBands. I have about 10 regular ones and 2 special edition ones.

That works if your trip to purchase your AP is a Free Dining trip. My AP has rarely fallen in to that category so I save the ticket for renewal time.

Could someone explain this to me. They sound the same. I for some reason can not figure out how it is different than taking the two day tickets required for free dining package and using those when you renew towards the cost of the AP renewal?

If I use the current MYW 8-day park hopper that is attached to my package to upgrade to an annual pass once we arrive will I receive an actual AP card?

If so, do I use that card to enter the parks and for merchandise discounts my entire trip?

What about the fastpass+ reservations I made from home? Are they still on the Magic Band that I receive in the mail before leaving home or will I lose them once I upgrade?

Am I still supposed to enter a Park at least once before upgrading for maximum credit of my MYW park hopper?

I apologize for so many questions I just want to make sure I have it correct!!

Thanks so much!!

You can use either the AP card or your magic band to enter the parks. You'll need to show your AP card + Photo ID for discounts.

There is no impact to your fast passes.

I am talking about renewal, which is what you are talking about. I use the two day ticket I have to buy with my free dining package as payment towards my renewal of my existing AP.

What eyehartdisney seems to be talking about is an upgrade. Assume you are going to Disney with your package and no other tickets. You will then use those package tickets to upgrade to an AP. You do not already have one so you are using the ticket value towards the purchase of a new AP.

Oh! Ok! That makes sense. Thanks!

Staceyeileen answered all your questions but I just want to emphasize that your MagicBands have NOTHING on them. They are only a transmitter that relays info from one place to another. Your information is all in your MDE and no matter which MagicBand (as long as it's active in your account) or hard ticket you use - they will all access your MDE account where your FastPass+ will be. I have well over a dozen MB and I can use any one of them whenever I want. I've even entered on my hard ticket and used my MB for my FastPasses.

Regarding the above about Magic Bands, I worry more that upgrading the tickets to an AP will wipe the FP+s somehow in my MDE account. Since the FP+s are attached in MDE to "tickets". Scared the CM will delete them somehow during the process.

Thanks for your replies... I feel much better!!

One more thing to make sure I understand. Disney can link my new AP to the Magic Band I'm bringing from home that has my Fast Pass+ reservations linked on it.
I would much rather use it to enter the Parks than dragging out the card.

Thanks again!!

Carla

Nothing is on the MB. It's all on MDE and then the bands link to MDE and the info there. Unless a glitch happens there won't be a problem.
