Taking Stitch to Hawaii and NOT Leaving Him There

Corinna, looks like our hopes for exciting itineraries for the Magic and Wonder have not panned out. The Wonder is doing another Panama Canal cruise and then thy're both doing the Bahamas and Caribean after September 2013. I didn't know those itineraries were so popular for all four ships to be there for three months but I have to say I'm a bit disappointed.

Pam I think you know this but David and I cruise every February to the Caribbean 12 days, this last time I only got off the ship in one port, we cruise to get out of the cold here and head to the warm, not so much for the ports.

In the fall we cruise for ports, last year was Baltic 16 days, and I really enjoy those.

I agree, with previous posters that we do not run into kids during longer cruises and during the school year, but I was just unsure of a Disney cruise.

Thanks for all the replies.

Well if David and I go on a Disney cruise it will be on Cash... All my points are gone for this use year and next... but I am hoping to convince him. As some of you know, we are not keen on being around a ton of children in a confined area, so this would be a stretch for him. Eating times would be the worst for him...

I'll add my 2 cents that DH and I travel without kids (sometimes our adult kids) and our Disney cruises have been fine. We hang at the adult pool, Serenity Bay and the only time we really see lots of kids is at the shows..but we don't mind that. Dinners we focus on tablemates (Disney is great at matching you with similar adults) and food and tune out the rest:lmao: It's not bad really.

Actually I am quite relieved about this. We already have two cruises booked for next year. Having another big fabulous cruise in the same year would have thrown a serious spanner in the works. I am actually quite excited about the Miami cruises for the Magic. Even though the Wonder has a firm place in my heart by now, I do still miss the Magic. Like many others, I think that the Miami cruises will not sell particularly well. Graham really would like to see the Everglades at some points, which would not be wise for me to do because I am very allergic to mosquito bites and I tend to still get bitten even if I cover up and use bug spray. So I am hoping that I may be able to get a good deal on a cruise on the Magic in fall 2013 and Graham can go and see the Everglades and spend some time in Miami.

Day 9

True to our routine, I had set our alarm call for 7:00, but they had actually forgotten to change their clock so we were woken up by Mickey at 6:00. I rang Guest Services to check what the time was just in case I had got confused when changing my watch and the person I spoke to confirmed that it was indeed 6:00. I told her what happened and she was terribly apologetic. At 7:00, we got up and ready. Graham headed for the gym and his exercise class and I went to the Cove Cafe for a Mocha and a pastry. I did my morning jewellery workshop and then I did my next Fish Extender run for those people doing all groups. This time round I had not made anything for the kids, but as there were only a handful of kids doing all groups, I had got Olympic 50 Pence pieces for the kids. For the adults I had made wine charms: with flowers and butterflies for the ladies and with a pirate theme for the men.

When I had finished my Fish Extender run, I picked up my consultation form and headed up to the spa. I was still not sure what to expect and figured that I had nothing to lose, but potentially a lot to gain. In the seminar, the Acupuncturist had explained that Acupuncture is very effective in treating motion sickness. When we had our seaweed wrap and massage on the first day, our massage therapists had mentioned that all of the spa staff had Acupuncture to treat sea sickness and that it had really helped. So I wondered if Acupuncture could help me with my car sickness. I had made a very unwise decision in the run up to the cruise. I had booked an excursion of the infamous Road to Hana in Maui. The Hana Highway, as it is officially known, is 68 miles long and has about 620 curves. The Disney sponsored excursions all came with a warning that this should to be undertaken by people who suffer from motion sickness. So I had been warned, but I really wanted to do this. I had planned to dose myself up with sea sickness tablets and figured that I could take naps if I was struggling. However, this gave me another option. I explained to the Acupuncturist what my problem was and what I was planning to do and she did not think that there would be any problem. She thought that she could help me to enjoy this day with a single treatment and to be on the safe side, she would also attach little seeds to certain pressure points that I could press if I should feel nauseous. She was fully booked that day, but she was able to offer me an appointment at 18:00, once we had left Hilo, the following day. I decided to jump on this.

After my consultation, I headed straight to the Outlook Cafe. Even though I was quite early, a couple of people were already there. This was my final jewellery workshop. It was a bit of a strange one. With four people it was the smallest workshop and it was also kind of two workshops rolled into one. This was supposed to be the adult version of the kid's version. Two of the 4 people that had originally signed up for this had done their projects at a different time. I did however have two people who had missed their bracelet workshop on the first day. So I asked them to come to this one. This could have been a recipe for disaster as they were very different kinds of workshop, but it worked. Everybody got their projects done and we had a great time chatting and laughing. About halfway through the workshop, Graham showed up. He wanted to get himself a frozen cappuccino and just wanted to say "hi". I asked if he would come and join us and initially he said no. I asked him if he could get me a frozen cappuccino, too. He said he would. When he came back with the drinks, he decided to join us after all.

Once the workshop was over, we headed to Triton's for some lunch. We ended up sitting with another couple and initially they were very quiet, but by the time the main course was served, they thawed a little and we had a nice chat. Graham had Lobster Ravioli in a light tomato broth followed by Seafood Risotto. He had Rhubarb and Strawberry Crumble with Custard for dessert. I had Mexican Tortilla Soup, Mild Chicken Curry with Rice and Poppadom. I did not really fancy any of the desserts that were on offer. One of our table mates asked what ice cream was on offer and one of the options was a Raspberry Sorbet. That sounded really nice. It was absolutely delicious and I really regret that I did not get around to having it again later in the cruise.

After lunch I got into the line for Lilo. She had brought her friend Stitch, which meant that Graham got in line with me. This worked out great. This was the day that we were having our Champagne Girl event and I had warned our organiser that I may be a little late. The line was huge and was not moving particularly quickly. I needed to get changed as everybody was supposed to wear something pink. I also had made key rings with pewter fairies and pink crackle glass beads for everybody taking part so I had to collect those as well. I left Graham in the line and quickly went to the cabin. I am so glad that I did. When I got there, I noticed that there was a piece of paper on the bed. This was the schedule for when Ducky Williams would be signing the lithograph. They have organized it by decks and out turn was that afternoon. If I had not gone back to the cabin to change, I would not have found this under after the event. Anyway, I quickly got changed and got the key rings out of the drawer and then I rejoined Graham in the line. He had made some progress, but it still was a little while before we reached the front of the line. It became clear very quickly that Stitch was back to his normal mischievous self.

After getting my photos with Lilo and Stitch, I went upstairs to Studio Sea. I gave the key rings to everybody and then I found myself a seat. I was directed to a table that had been set up with pink leis and pink flowers for the hair. I picked up my goodies and then I sat down. They were just getting ready to try the third Champagne. This was the Fairy Tale Cuvée. I had this a number of times before, but this looked and tasted slightly different. I missed the two sweet sparkling wines, Rosa Regale and Enchanted Rose. One of the men who assisted with the pouring and serving got me a class of the Rosa Regale. I was not too fussed about the Enchanted Rose as we already had a bottle of this on the cruise and could have more as it was one of the options for our wine package. I can't remember what precisely the last one was, but I think this was actually a genuine Champagne rather than a sparkling wine. The one thing that I do remember is that it was very dry and not really to my taste.

When everybody had finished the last Champagne, we got ourselves organised for a group photo. The idea had been to do this in the atrium, but there were still character meet and greets going on there so that was not an option. We ended up doing the photo on the stage at Studio Sea, but the lighting was pretty bad. After the photo, we stayed behind for a bit just talking before everybody dispersed.

When I got back to the atrium, Mickey was out for photos in his Hawaiian outfit. The line was quite short so I got in line. It did not take very long until I was on my way again. I headed up to deck 4 to check how long the line for the Ducky Williams signing was . Not only was there no line, but there was also no evidence that the signing would take place there. On the two previous cruises where we had lithographs, the signing had taken place in the area between the two shops and the Walt Disney Theater. I had been in such a mad rush earlier that I had not seen a venue noted on the flyer. I went into Treasure Ketch to see if they knew where this was taking place. The person who I asked, did not know, but she checked with another member of staff, who thought that this would take place in Wavebands. She then insisted on escorting me down there to see if this was the right place to be. It was indeed and I thanked her. There was a member of the cruise staff by the door giving out numbered tickets. He wanted to give me one, but I explained that I have yet to get my lithograph from our cabin. He asked if I had far to go and when I explained that our cabin was almost right underneath us, he gave me a ticket anyway.

While I was looking for the lithograph, which for some reason had found its way into the wardrobe, Graham came into the cabin. I told him where I was headed and he decided to come with me. As we walked past the big portholes near Wavebands, we saw a gorgeous rainbow so we had to stop and take some photos.

When we got to Wavebands, the member of cruise staff who had given me my ticket commented on how quickly I was back. There was no rush. There were still another 40 numbers in front of us. We found a seat and made ourselves comfortable. Graham commented that they were missing a trick and that they should have the bar open. I had to agree. They essentially had a captive audience and I think they would have made a fortune. I know that we would have had a Virgin Piña Colada if this had been an option. They called 10 numbers at a time and eventually our number was called. Even though our number was the first in the group, we ended up being last as the others in the group were closer to the stage. Still for once I had nowhere to be so I did not mind waiting. Finally it was our turn. One of the members of cruise staff who was in the room asked if I wanted a photo and took my camera. Again, the light was not wonderful, but it is the memory that counts.

We took the lithograph back to the cabin and picked up our swim stuff. The pool was still quite busy. We decided to chill out in the Rainforest Room for a bit first and then check out the pool situation again a bit later once people had gone to early dinner or the early show. The Rainforest Room was a bit busier than usual as well so I decided to head for the mild sauna for a while. This is normally a firm favourite of mine, but something about it bothered me this time round. So after about 10 minutes I gave up. By then I had my pick of the tile loungers and I made myself comfortable there.

Around 18:00, we decided to check the pool again. This time round, it was empty. So we decided to have a swim. The water was much calmer than it had been earlier in the cruise, but it still felt at times that I was swimming uphill. It was a lot of fun though. Once the sun started to go in, I felt a little chilly and the hot tub became very tempting. Graham joined me for a while, but then he headed back to the pool for another swim. Once he had enough, we tried off as much as we could and then headed for the spa changing rooms to get showered and ready for dinner.

We got to the atrium in plenty of time. Chip and Dale were out and about in their Hawaiian outfits and there was no line to speak of. So I convinced Graham that we should have a photo with them. Once he had his compulsory character photo, I had some photos taken with them on my own.

Soon it was time to head for dinner. Dinner that night was the rotational menu at Triton's. When we got there, our lunch buddy from the Med cruise was all by herself at her table. We invited her to come and join us, but she suggested that it would be a better idea if we joined her table. They had started out with 5 people, but 2 people have not been seen again after the first dinner, another person had not been there for the two previous nights and that evening there was no sign of the 5th person at the beginning of dinner either. We moved across to the other table. As they had the same serving team, this did not cause any problems. Shortly afterwards one of them turned up. I was happy to finally have table mates. I enjoyed this dinner a lot. The food was great, too. Graham had Escargot, French Onion Soup, Sea Bass on Risotto and Grand Marnier Soufflé for dessert. I had French Onion Soup,Tomato Soup, Beef Tenderloin with Mashed Potato and Bacon-wrapped Green Beans and Grand Marnier Soufflé for dessert. We also had a bottle of Beringer White Zinfandel with our dinner. At some stage during dinner, Ariel appeared. She made the round of the tables and then the serving teams gave out some streamers and some silly streamer waving commenced. I have to say I have never understood the need to have a "show" at dinner and find them largely irritating.

Once we all had finished our dinner, we said goodbye to our new table mates and headed out to have some more photos taken. This night they had two backdrops out, one with the ship and a Mickey sunset and one that looked like old fashioned wallpaper. I really likes this one, but both Graham and the photographer where not so sure. I thought the photos came our very well.

We headed back to our cabin, where I put the clock back one last time. I took some photos of our towel animal and then got ready for bed. The next day we would see land and my dream to go to Hawaii would finally come true.

Corinna,

Loving your report and the pictures! You and Graham are such an adorable couple! :thumbsup2

I LOVE the picture of you 2 with Ducky! He is such a cherished icon. :worship::worship:

We have never "won" one of his drawings at any of his events we have attended, but one of our daughters has a Pooh he created just for her back in 2006. :cloud9:

Fab update! Love the jewelry you designed and your pics are so cute!

Can't wait to hear about the "land" part of the trip.

You've given out some wonderful FE gifts.

Love the rainbow pics. You are so lucky to have met Ducky and have him sign your prints. He looks like such a nice man. I have 2 of his lithographs and would have loved to have them signed. Looking forward to more.

I was just going to ask when your next cruise is and I saw your ticker, very exciting :)

While I have not been to the Everglades I went to some swamps in upper Florida and they are unlike anything else I've ever seen, truly amazing. I love seeing the alligators swimming in the water. If I cover myself in deet or something of similar strength I'm usually ok, but they flock to me also. I'm really eyeing the October, 20 2013 cruise which has two stops in CC. I'm about 95% decided I'll do it.

How luxurious to have so many days at sea, but the prospect of landing in Hawaii sounds fantastic. You had a very relaxing day. I can't wait to have the Grand Mariner Soufflé!

I find these events to be interesting or neutral. We got one of our best photos of the cruise with Ariel at this dinner. It intregued me that she welcomed us to her father's restaurant. Since she only posed for pictures at the tables, the children had to stay in their seats to see her but afterwards she invited them to bring their streamers for a parade. We were to unfurl our streamer stick and wave to this Royal Procession. This is a bit too much of an extrovert behavior for me so my streamer remained furled, but Tom unfurled his and waved it about. I did think it was a clever way to encourage the children to wait patently for the character appearance and then to get some large muscle activity to balance all the sitting. Since there were not many children in our late dining rotation the parade was short-lived.
