DD just started growth hormone shots and gets them once at night every night.
-The med need to stay cold but can't freeze.
-I am a bit worried about having the syringes in the hotel (off site at DL)
-I am also a bit worried about leaving the sharps container in the hotel.

Any advice would be great.

I am sure it will be fine, but it's our first time out of the house with this stuff and I am just a bit worried.

Hi - I understand your concerns. I guess I would be too. I know you're staying off-site, but I can tell you that the refridgerators at Disney ar the small college types, and they don't get all that cold in my experience. The further back you go, the colder it gets though. If your resort has the same type of fridge, it should be okay.

I do get concerned about meds being stolen, and I often put things that don't need refridgeration in the room safe. If you have one in the room you're staying in, perhaps your syringes can fit.

I guess I would just call the resort you're staying in and ask them about it all. I would think there are many guests that must travel with needles, so I'll bet they have experience with that.

I travel a lot to non-Disney hotels for activities of two different organizations as well as visits to firends and relatives.

I have never had any problem, in any hotel, with syringes being missing. I have always been able to get a small refrigerator for medicaitons, and again nothing has ever been messed with.

One thing that makes hotels much safer now than in the past is the use of card keys as opposed to metal keys. Especially the large chain hotels a record is kept of each entry to a room, by card. So if a particular housekeeper or maintenance person enters the room there is a record of the date and time. Also, the housekeeper key cards are valid only for the rooms that the particular housekeeper is assigned to. So i something is missing, this can get narrowed down to one or two people very quickly.

And if the hotel does not have a small sharps container available, I will use a soda or water bottle as a sharps container. For example, the last hotel I stayed in happened to be on the campus of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. When I asked about a sharps container all they had was something the size of a five gallon gas can; rather than use that I used a water bottle which I gave to them for disposal when I checked out.

Again, I think you'll be better off with a larger hotel than just a mom and pop motel to set your mind at ease.

I have to use shots for my rhumitoid arthritis and I know that at WDW resorts you can request a fridge in the room for your medications. You have to tell the cast member when you make your room reservations that you are requesting a fridge for your meds. and they will put a note on your file, you also have to tell them at check in and it normally does'nt cost you if you need the fridge for medical needs. As for the needles I would put them in the safe, I know that the safes in a WDW resort are to small for a sharps container, I would probably put the container and needles in my suitcase and lock the suitcase if I could. I hope this helps.

That is only a concern at the Values. The Moderates and Deluxes all have refrigerators in the room standard. In the Values there should never be a charge for a refrigerator for medical needs. If you do get charged complain at the Front Desk and hopefully they will remove the charge without trouble. I understand the medical fridges are smaller than the normal hotel fridge so wouldn't be good for holding drinks.

Note to some of the people posting. The original poster stated going to Disneyland (in California), not Disney World (in Florida), and will be staying off-site.

Please read initial questions fully before answering them.

Thank you all for the info. I figured it would be good to ask on this thread because so many here have to take so many different types of meds.

I will contact the hotel (didn't think of that) and see what they say. I think I may also ask about a safe (we don't use them) and even think of keeping all but the meds in the car for safe keeping.

Thank you all so very much.
