I am renting an ECV offsite for the length of my stay. For one day we are considering going to Sea World. I"ve heard that you can get a Mears Shuttle from Disney property to Sea World. I haven't checked fully into that yet. I am wondering if anyone has taken their ECV via some form of public transport to Sea World and back. We will not be renting a car at all for this trip. Were I to rent a car for one day, is this possible to do from Disney property and what type of vehicle should I rent to accommodate the heavy duty scooter?
Thanks.

The Lynx bus system is regular muncipal buses and are not accessible and cannot handle an ECV. To use the special Access Lynx program you have to be registered in advance.

As far as a rental car, you might want to click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #5 deals with ECVs and cars.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

Probably your best option would be a taxicab. It would be in the $20 to $30 range each way and you would get door to door service. Mears operates about 20 taxis which are ramp equipped and cost no more than a regular taxi. (call 407-422-2222 for their dispatch office.) However, if the ECV you are renting is one which is designed to come apart (which is most ECVs) it will fit in the trunk of a standard taxicab.

All Lynx buses are wheelchair accessible. I have ridden one from TTC to the Super Walmart beyond Celebration and back in my powerchair I am not quite sure of ECVs though, because you enter the bus through the front door, than have to turn sharply to the left to park up. It would be a very tight turn for all but the very smallest ECVs. The main disadvantage is getting over to TTC to catch the Lynx from most Disney resorts except those on the monorail. (I understand that some Lynx busses now stop at DTD also, but I'm not certain the SeaWorld bus is one of them).

I have also ridden from Boardwalk to Universal in a Mears wheelchair shuttle in the same vans that wheelchair users used to get from MCO to Orlando before Magic Express was introduced. That worked very well for me.
