I wouldn't want to move there. I love the entire trip planning, hotel staying, weather changing part of the WDW vacation. I don't think I would enjoy it nearly as much if I could see it every day. I also know I wouldn't be able to have the excuse to stay at the Poly 30 days a year! No thanks! I'd rather keep WDW as a real vacation for me!

The magic does die a bit after a while, I use to get goosebumps when I drove under the entrance to WDW, but since I cut through WDW everyday to go home now, it means nothing anymore.

I would LOVE that, but it would also probably bum me out a bit.

We plan on moving to Central Florida as soon as my step-son graduates high school. I would obviously go to the parks, and to Downtown Disney all the time, but I would also take week long vacations on site.

I have been lucky enough that my husband has to work in the Orlando area enough that we built a condo in Celebration. This is also good, as my parents live in Winterhaven, and my Sister in Daytona Beach. My other home is in NE Ohio. I would move full time to Orlando in a minute. I tell my husband that all the time! We were fortunate enough to buy a home before the prices went sky high. I love being able to go to the parks whenever I feel like it! There is never any pressure to get on any particular ride. I have made freinds with cast members. There is nothing as special as watching the parade and getting a special kiss or wave meant especially for you! That being said, if you don't have the means to afford to go the parks and enjoy yourself, then living close by doesn't matter, does it?

As much as I love Disney I could never move there. I love fall leaves and winter snow and the constant heat would drive me nuts

I guess I have the best of 'both worlds". We moved to West Central Florida three years ago from Michigan, we now live about 1 1/2 hours from Disney. We visit Disney about 3 -4 times a year now and I can tell you that each trip is very special to our DS16 and DD10. In fact we are going to MVMCP and staying at AKL in Dec and my DD gets up each morning and announces how many more days till Disney. Living on the West Coast of FL is beautiful and all theme parks are far enough away that you feel like you are going somewhere. I wouldn't go back to MI for anything. You get used to the heat and the way I look at it is this.......We spent 6 months out of the year with gray, rainy/snowy bleak weather that is difficult to get out and do anything in and traded it for sunny, hot weather that you can beat by getting into the pool, go to the beach or stay inside in your Central Air.

You just learn to change your "yearly calendar". Insread of "living" life from May til August (Michigan Summers) you plan theme parks, etc from Oct. til April.......it's truly a beautiful thing

I think my wife and I would enjoy the central FL area. I wouldn't want to live in the heart of Orlando. Perhaps a little northwest would be nice. Close enough to commute to WDW but out of the most populated areas.

Our son graduates from HS in 5 years and we have talked seriously about moving south. I would love to work in the Disney Event Planning department. My line of work now is along the same lines. I think it would be fun to help companies plan events at the convention locations throughout the "World".

Are any of you CM's part of the Event Planning Cast?? If so, what is it like?

I lived all of my life in Anaheim, Just 10 mins from Disneyland, until 2 yrs ago I moved to daytona. I am a disney nut and spent as much time as possible at Disneyland. Well, i decided to relocate to FL for a few reasons. I did not come here becasue of WDW, heck I used to live at Disneyland, my fav place in the world, so why would I leave?? Anyway i am now 75 miles from WDW. I did not move to Fl because of WDW BUT i can say, I would not have moved here if WDW wasnt here. I have to live near Disneyland or the MK..Weird, maybe but its my hobby. Well since i live 75 miles from WDW and i have to drive awful i4 to get there, i am not able to visit as much as i like. But i do manage. And I also spend the night at one of the WDW hotels every now and then which is nice, and makes it feel like a vacation, not just a day trip. I am getting tired of hurricanes and i hate the heat and humidity but i can survive. And I hate I4!! I am planning on returning to the Anaheim area one day but i have to stay here now as housing in Calif is too expensive at my salary level now.

of course nothing can be too firm when set that far in the future....but DH and i are dead serious about relocating to FL when we retire. OK, that will be at least 18 years from now, but a girl has to have a dream.

not specificly for WDW, mainly for weather - we hate cold and snow and neither of us minds heat or humidity - but having something like WDW close would be great. take the grand kids and all.

the mrs. and I were talking about moving to the orlando area for years now, and now we're in the process of actually doing it. my office up here in MA closed a week after our WDW wedding, and she's able to transfer jobs without any problems. and since she's a physical therapist, she makes some nice $$ , so i can go ahead and get a job at CRO, WWOS, or anyplace else in WDW that I want. Working in customer service for the past 6 years has made me realize that I'd like the challenge of being a CM. People expect more at WDW because, well, they should.
I'm just really upset that there doesn't seem to be any apartment buildings left in Celebration. Just all condos.
We fly back down Sun to check out apts, so if we find something, then we're gonna frame up our snow shovel and hang it on the wall.

I think living closer will be nice, and the magic will still be there for me. I can't stand this cold up here, also no more snow for me.

I moved to Daytona Beach 2 years from Ohio. I love it!! I work outside and it is hot and humid in the summer. But I love being 1 hr from Disney. I go 3-4 times a month. The magic is different but great in a lot of ways. I do agree with those who say don't come here for Disney. If you have a job or get one here then don't be afraid of the hurricanes or gators, traffic or vacationers.

I wouldn't want to move there right now, but my goal is to convince DH to move to Orlando when we retire. The kids will be grown, we won't have jobs and I will have to have something to occupy my time...what better place to do that than WDW?! Also it will be a great excuse for the kids to come visit with the grandchilden!

I love my life right now - I enjoy raising my kids and working, but I don't do well with a lot of idle time on my hands and I dread the day the kids are gone and DH and I are retired. But - if we lived in Orlando DH could spend his days golfing and I could spend my days at the parks. We could meet up for dinner at Downtown Disney or EPCOT and then enjoy the wonderful nighttime shows afterward. That actually makes it sound bearable.

I posted earlier on this thread, but we just spent a week down at WDW in Oct (during the hurricane) and I have decided that I am moving. My son is more excited than I am. I hate the cold and the snow (and it's getting COLD here already). I love the heat and the humidity doesn't bother me at all. I would love to work for Disney, but for starters, I'm just looking for a job in general. Once I get settled, then I may start looking into Disney.

I don't know when this is going to happen, but I'm hoping that we'll be living in sunny Florida by 07 .

I'm wishing upon that star.....

I'm with you, hAm53! Customer service is a big part of my job, and I deal with some pretty demanding folks - I'd love to find out if I could cut it at WDW. I'm grateful to the folks on this thread who have shared their relocation experiences so honestly. I still can't let go of the dream, though - I've gotta have my stint as a Disney CM. Dh isn't convinced (yet), but we're heading for Orlando after retirement. He can golf and putter around while I deal with the folks at Guest Services on Main Street. Sounds like a plan, doesn't it?

When we were at Disney in August we spent some time talking to a CM at MGM outside of the Playhouse Disney show. He was in the college program when he was young and loved it so much he stayed on as a part time CM ever since. He's been there 25 years now. He is a banker by day, and a Disney CM by night "for fun".

We are always saying in our home (especially during the winter months) that someday we would love to move to Florida. My in-laws have a condo in Jupiter and are "snowbirds". They fly down in Jan. (right after New Years) and fly back up end of May.

I honestly don't know if I could just move down there - too many family members here and as much as I hate or can't take much of winter/snow, I like the four seasons here. We hope someday to be able to do what my in-laws are doing. I would also want to be somewhere two/three hours away from WDW so we can spend a night or two.

My retired neighbors bought a house in Ocala two years agao. First year they went down just for the winter. This year they went down in October and plan to stay there all year - testing out the summers, can she stay away that long, etc. She will not sell her house here until she is 90% sure. (Her married daughter is currently living in her house to save $$ to purchase her own home someday).

I hope we will have means to test these waters someday.

I don't know if I could move. I would miss the seasons and the Fall especially. Nothing like falling leaves and cool, crisp air. Also, snow on Christmas morning. We have friends that moved down and say the summers are crazy heat wise and the bugs are incredible. You need a screen house just to be outside. Has anyone seen the picture of the snake that ate the alligator... I'm thinking bad idea!!! But that's me. I do like, however, that you can swim in a pool in the winter. That is a big benefit, but how come the locals in their development were looking at us funny for using the pool in November????? or the waitress that asked us if we were from Alaska or something because we had on shorts and shortsleeve shirts in January when it was 58 degrees outside. Those crazy people had gloves, hats, boots and ski jackets on.... what's that about? I'm thinkin' heatwave!!!! Sorry, just had to share.

Hi TheWog, yes it is getting cold. This is when I would like to be south. Tonight is going to be cold too, but the weekend is going to warm up. If in the high 50's is warm.

About the people with winter hat's and gloves. We went down one January and saw people walking around like it was very cold. We had shorts and t's on. I guess when it's in the 20's up here and we are down south the 50'-60's are warm to us but not them. Stay warm,

The air is cool and crisp here tonight-69 Some of us just feel the cold more than others I guess. Even though I grew up in NY and lived in MA for 10 years, if it dropped to 60 there I was freezing. Summers are great we swam and biked at night when the sun was too hot. I love swimming at 10pm and being totally comfortable when I get out! I can take 4 months of heat when we get beautiful weather from October-May! Better than bad weather from November-May. I miss a lot of things from up north but the winter is not one of them. I also got much worse mosqutio bites in MA/NH than in FL. There are so many lizzards, dragonflys and frogs here they eat a ton of bugs.
