Morning all...I'll have a little bite of breakfast....I'm going in to work late today as I'm meeting a friend for breakfast first! Aren't I naughty?!? Actually, it will be very quiet at work today as most of the advertising agencies are closed or only doing half days. I need this break to gear up for next week...my assistant is going on a cruise for her delayed honeymoon. We are also down one assistant on the 'local' side, so it's just two of us 'senior support' people in next week doing the work of four (with NO overtime pay!) But I won't mind (too much) as I will be going to my "happy place" the following week!

Will be stopping at my neighbors on my way out to see if they have my box from England or to ask them to keep an eye out for it.::yes::

Here's some QOTD responses:
want to go to:
Scottland (maybe 2006! or even fall 2005!)
New Zeland, north island
New Zeland, south island

Hey, all those Easter eggs.....send for me, I make THE BEST deviled eggs!

Most recent DVD purchased (Way old question) "All That Jazz" haven't even opened it yet. May do a "All That Jazz" and "Chicago double feature!

brb, phone

Morning all....

Sorry I missed breakfast, it sounded good. Had to get Abbie to school in time for her Easter Egg hunt and party today. Poor kid has the sniffles...sinus junk I think (hope) but she really wanted to go....so call the Mommy police....my kid's infecting your kid!

[vent....fell free to ignore]
DH just called and reminded me why I hate his current command so much. Oh joy. Like I need to be reminded.

Anyway, remember when we had to move up our trip, losing our Illuminations cruise and Cinderella breakfast ressies since we were already well inside the 90 day window? Because he was going to be out of town that whole week and I'd have to hold down the fort by myself (not a big deal really) but on top of that pack for all 4 of us, and drive 9 out of 11 hours by myself until we picked him up in JAX? So we moved it up 2 weeks so he'd be here to help pack/drive...

WELL....he just called. "I don't know how to tell you this, but I don't have to go to JAX that week. There's been a change in plans. I'm doing a different part from up here.....will just be across town for that week, and now we could have kept the original ressies."

AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! I'd switch back, but now we're inside the 30-day cancellation window for SOG and would lose $190 if we do (one night per room for 2 rooms). I'm so mad I could spit! So is CRT and Illum. Cruise worth an extra $190 on top of the usual cost? Well, no. Especially since his 'rents have planned to come up here those dates anyway. I'm just so ticked. It takes all I can not to scream....or go down there and give the guy responsible for the lack of planning a piece of my mind!! But that's wholly inappropriate, so I'll try to contain my anger, because it's not DH's fault....he actually does his job well.....unlike some of the dolts he works with.....

Anyway, will continue calling Disney hoping for some CRT or Illum. Cruise cancellations.....
[/vent...you may resume normal reading]

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Aw man! I am so sorry kadaten. What a pain. So, are you back to the original dates?? I am impressed that you can keep yourself from going down there & giving that guy in charge a piece of your mind!

QOTD:
3 places I'd like to visit
1. Australia....had a chance to be an exchange student for 1/2 of my junior and 1/2 of my senior year, but decided I didn't want to miss senior year so I passed on it. Still can't decide if that was a good decision....
2. Pretty much everywhere in Europe. I've been to England/Scotland for a month with the Girl Scouts, France for 10 days with my HS french class, and Germany meeting DH on R&R for 5 days.....loved them all and would love to have more time to see more! Would love to see some of the ruins of the ancient world in Rome or Greece....or Israel...
3. Somewhere exotic just for a completely different experience.... either a safari in Africa or exploring the Far East (China, Japan, Thailand, etc.) or somewhere safe in the Middle East....just somewhere completely different to experience a new way of life.

Things I'd like to do....
Hmmm....I've really just always wanted to travel, see new places. I would like to be able to say I've been to all the Disney parks :)

No, going with the 2nd set....in my counter. Original dates were May 14-19, but just can't suck up the $190 cancellation fee (especially since we didn't save for this trip....going to charge and payoff).

As for giving the guy a piece of my mind....that's why I'd never make it in the service! A couple of bars (or in this case oak leaves) on someone's collar wouldn't stop me from spouting off if I really thought they deserved it. DH, however, has perfect "military bearing" and knows when to keep his mouth shut. DH is a LT (O-3....pins on O-4 in July) and the guy/guys in question are commanders and captains (O-5's and 6's). There is a definite pecking order to everything military....so he'd never say a word to them....and as a "good wife", in situations like this (crappy ones) my place is at home with my mouth shut. Possibly one of the hardest parts of being a Navy wife.

Thanks for letting me vent....

kadaten I'm sorry for all the hastle you are having, it is a real pain!!

geffric I'll come on the walk with you. When we took our kids on residential with school last year (we took 30 kids ages 7-9 away for 2 nights) we walked them 17 miles over the 2 days and they loved it!!

My day today isn't going as palnned. I have been to the hair salon and have been cut and highlighted (looks quite nice I think) but DH still has to get his clothes sorted to pack! He now says some of them are in the washing basket so I need to do those loads first!! My friend who was supposed to be coming over for dinner is ill and has cancelled, never mind. She is still going to look after the animals though her fiance will come round if she is not feeling better.

Well I guess I better go and get the suitcase down from the loft and finish packing the hand luggage bag.

Oh, BTW, those Easter eggs, if they ever get made, will meet their end in the garbage disposal. Noone in this house eats any eggs other than scrambled. Well, the kids might if we ever made them.....they've never had them. I guess I'll let them try 'em if we make eggs.....

ibouncetoo - would you be interested in sharing that deviled egg recipe? I made some last week from a recipe that I found and they were not good. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_3_159.gif' alt='Skunk' border=0></a>

Have you posted on the main boards to see if anyone is about to cancel and will just give you their ressies? I've seen that happen several times! Maybe, huh, huh??? Good luck!

What to do with the Easter Eggs?
I've given up on dying actual eggs - my family doesn't like to eat them and I feel guilty just throwing them away! We fill plastic eggs with candy and coins!

Is it time to remove some names from the color wheel? Don't mean to sound mean, but I mean, really.

You still out there RickinNYC? You've been too much gone and not enough here lately.

QOTD: The easter eggs you color - what will become of the them?<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/8/8_3_33.gif' border=0></a>

We will have some for breakfast, with lots of salt for me and the kids and with the yolk removed and then filled with, yuck - mayo for DH. Then some of them will become deviled eggs. Some of them will go on to become an egg salad sandwich for me. The rest will meet their fate in the backyard vs. the bb gun.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_2_120.gif' border=0></a>

I'm here! I'm here! Just been a bit too busy at work.

At the end of June, we will be conducting a massive food rescue at the conclusion of the International Fancy Food & Confection Show. Last year, we collected 127,500 pounds of food in 2 hours and 45 minutes with close to 300 volunteers.

This year, we hope to break the food poundage record so I've been cranking out presentations, orientations and meetings galore all over the place with corporations, colleges and universities, trying to get volunteer commitments. Guess what!!!??? Three different companies have committed a total of 245 folks collectively!! Wahoooo!!!

So now the stress level has been alleviated somewhat since I only have to get 30-50 more volunteers.

But just watch me at the food rescue itself on June 29. I'll be clutching a Nextel, a gigantic walkie talkie with headset, a cel phone, maps, and clip boards. Yikes!!!

Good Morning all. Haven't visited in awhile! llebrekniT found me hanging around another thread and invited me over!! It's true, I've been gone awhile. I can't keep up with you guys!!! I go to work caught up--I come home 12 hours later and there's 15 pages to read!!! I felt inadequate. But, since llebrekniT tracked me down and invited me back home, I thought that the least I could do is visit and say hello!!!

RickinNYC , first let me say I think you do wonderful work! My best job ever was volunteer work I did for Navy Relief.....and I wasn't even paid! I think it would be wonderful to actually be able to make a living working for great causes like yours!

However, every time you say "food rescue" I just can't help it....I get this mental image of fruits and vegetables....held prisoner! locked in cages! being tortured! threatened with drowning (in ranch dip, no less!)

Then in storms RickinNYC and his trusty band of volunteers! Armed only with clipboards and walky-talkies, they liberate the food from the rich and give it to the poor! Kinda like Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men!

So, you think your wand will match a green tunic and pair of tights? And do you have a funny hat like that fox wears in the movie? :hyper:

Sorry....just what the ol' melon conjures up...who knows where these things come from....

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmfffffffffff.....I've been found. :wave2:

No work today for me. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_17_206.gif' border=0></a> But one bad thing, I have pink eye.....both eyes. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/29/29_4_40.gif' border=0></a> Booooooooohooooooooooooo!

llebrekniT we think WAY too much alike. I had been pondering asking for a clean out on the color wheel, but felt.....it's not my place. Not my page. But as bossy as you are ;) you went for it! Kudos! Now, what do ya think RRBB.

I got my 2 pairs of Doc Martens in the mail today. Just now. My DS opened the door in his undies. Gotta talk to him about that.

QOTD:
Been to Greece, been to Mexico....it's great.
1. Alaska (cruise)
2. Africa (yeah.....I love the culture)
3. Cabo San Lucas

Other QOTD:
Activities
1. Parachute
2. Whitewater Raft
3. MOVE

I am making a <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/26/26_5_3.gif' border=0></a> chicken salad for tomorrow. Yummmmmmm! It's awesome!!!

I'll be checking in and out today!

Cleaning lady/Clutter, I have someone coming over tomorrow to see if she wants the job. Must tidy up.

Glad you decided to drop by! ::yes:: Don't worry about reading every page....we'd love to have you just "drop in" <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_2_124.gif' border=0> whenever you can!

OK, I must be missing something here? Lewski709 - why are you picking up for the cleaning lady to come???

Kadaten, it's a pretty great gig. I actually love this job more than any other I've ever had! I'd spent about 12 years in the business world, in sales and national account management. Travelled TONS, made good money, but came home cranky and stressed out a lot. Since I've made the career change, I haven't looked back since. Never cranky or moody (at least not nearly even close to how I'd been in the past, LOL!).

As for your food rescue visions, trust me. I usually get blank stares and looks of complete confusion whenever I use the phrase.

Basically, we take food that would otherwise be thrown away, provided it follows some fairly standard but very strict food safety guidelines, and insure that it gets delivered to more than 800 community feeding programs all over NYC. We collect on average of 50,000 pounds every day, which helps us feed more than 200,000 people every week. Food donors are comprised of local restaurants, cafeterias, green markets, diners, cafes, quick-serve facilities, major manufacturers, whole salers, distributors, and of course, food drives. Community programs are homeless shelters, shelters for women, after school programs, senior centers, food pantries and on and on...

We have 85 staff, 15 refrigerated trucks and one office. And I have 1,400 volunteers at last count that keep me pretty busy.

Can you tell I go over this every day?

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy Easter and sorry if I did not wish a happy Passover last week.

Welcome back Josh'smom.

Tigger Fans! I have to pick up....she cleans, but doesn't pick up.

Sorry you guys to keep doing this- I am having trouble keeping up with coversations as work is overbearing this week but here is my answer to the QOTD:

I am dying to go to Bali and stay in those huts out over the water - but my fantasy world has to not have terrorists.
I also want to go back to Paris for more than a few days
I would am dying to go to Scotland too to stay in a castle

Here is my absolute favorite recipe for deviled eggs - I have made this many times but now I tend to cheat on carmelizing the salmon but try it without cheating (oh, and you wn't find me putting caviar on them either) - it is spectacular and its Emeril Lagasse's recipe so you know its pretty fabulous:

1 (6-ounce) salmon fillet
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup sugar
1 dozen hard-boiled eggs, halved
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon minced shallots
1/2 fresh lemon, juiced
2 ounces sevruga caviar

Season the salmon with salt and pepper. Dredge the salmon in the sugar, coating well. Heat a small saute pan, over medium heat. When the pan is hot, add the salmon, and sear for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, until the salmon is caramelized on both sides. Remove from the pan and cool completely. Flake the salmon into small pieces.
Place the egg yolks in a mixing bowl and the whites on a serving plate. Season the whites with salt. With a fork, mash the egg yolks. Add the salmon, mayonnaise, shallots, and lemon juice. Mix well. Season with salt and pepper. Fill the egg whites with the salmon mixture. Cover with plastic wrap and chill completely. Remove and garnish with caviar.

:wave2: Have a great Holiday!
