My husband and I took the dogs for a nice long walk. Now I don't have to feel guilty about them sitting around while we are shopping.

Hi ya'll. Please wish me luck this evening as I'm off to visit family I haven't seen in over 15 years. Thanksgiving night I had a heart to heart with my brother who got me to see that avoiding them is wrong. Family is family so I at least need to try. I don't have to hang out with them all the time buf 15 years is a little ridiculous.

I'm nervous though cause the reason I stay away is I don't agree with their lifestyle ... Here's something I thought was funny. Sad but funny. I asked hubby to go with but he said no. I asked him why and he said he's afraid of getting shot. I laughed so hard. They're a rowdy bunch but not the gun toting type. They like to fight and argue though so I told him he won't get shot but he might get knifed. You should have seen the look on his face. Needless to say, he declined the offer. In all seriousness - I'm not worried about getting hurt. They do like to fight and argue but not in a physical way. I'm mostly worried about having to tell someone off and I hate arguing. Wish me luck!

Good luck Family issues can be so tough. I understand where you're coming from and I hate family anxiety Hopefully everyone will just be happy to see you and can avoid fighting until you leave.

There is a light covering of snow on the ground here. All of my Christmas presents are wrapped. Now all DD needs to do is decorate the fake tree when she gets home tomorrow.

I know family avoidance issues. Good luck with dealing with yours. While I bet the differences you have won't make you the best of friends after 15 years, I think you'll at least feel some peace for trying to make peace.

Thanks ya'll for the support. I survived the reunion. There were three arguments -- two of which became very heated resulting in family members leaving. No one was shot or knifed. It was good seeing them and they seemed genuinely happy to see me.

It's snowing here. We're expecting a few inches ...

Ok. I have to say it. I had to close my windows because it was getting lower than 70 degrees in my house. I had to put on my long comfy jammy pants. All of you up North may now throw snow balls or rotten fruit at me.

I've actually just discovered that I'll be making a quick weekend trip down there next month! My dad is turning 80 in February and his wife is planning a surprise party for him at the end of January.

I'll make an appearance around the major holidays and that's it. I can only take so much. However, I'm thinking about inviting one of my aunts out to lunch or dinner. Talking to her last night I realized she was very close to my mom who passed away when I was 14. My aunt can probably answer a lot of unanswered questions that I have so I need to try and build a relationship with her without having to always hang out with the rest of the family - if you know what I mean.

I'm sorry you lost your Mom at such a young age. That's a good idea to try to visit your Aunt without the others. I hope your questions can be answered and you get to learn more about your Mom.
