Oh, yeah, and a few words on Charlie. . .I would assume he is doing better. Yesterday he jumped over (not, on--over--O V E R--over) the sofa. When he landed on the other side, he started yelping. I was like, "You stupid dog". But he is doing so much better.

We got what we really wanted from the hunters. The owner of the property changed the locks on his gates and revoked their priviledges. They were caught "spotlighting" deer (a HUGE no-no), and lost their hunting stuff--licenses, guns, even their trucks are in impound. PETA is getting more active with the hunting problems in this area and I think our game warden may actually have to start working.

Thanks again for your well-wishes!

I FINALLY got my Christmas tree up. My new WDW ornaments look so pretty on it!

I was wondering if you had active game wardens in the area. That's good news about those so called men.

Not really active, but now that PETA is monitoring, they're going to be active. North Carolina has been in a lot of trouble with PETA. You ought to check out their website. It's pretty frightening what they had to deal with in this state.

I'm glad to hear Charlie is feeling better :) Now let's just hope that the animals get revenge on those guys. I think maybe being trampled by a verly large Elk would suffice

I thought about doing that. I think I will.

I can't find a link to click regarding North Carolina.

No elk here, though. But, I wouldn't put it past one of my dad's emus to chase them. Daddy had those emus here 6 years ago before he died. They were fenced in, but got out and ran to the next town.

Sadiedog--try these--

creativeamanda, very disturbing. Why don't people get their animals fixed!!! AND don't get an animal unless you are willing to care for it properly. So disgusting. I know there are groups who make trips getting animals from the south and bring them to Maine for adoption. Some people have mixed feelings about it b/c we already have more animals than we can provide homes for in our shelters. There is more of an over population problem down there.

Yea for Charlie feeling better. Boo for Charlie jumping OVER the sofa. DD & I love animals and I would love to have a cat or a dog, but, considering my low pay, we can't afford one. We do have 2 Beta fishies. We go to a no kill shelter weekly for our licks, fur and barks.

I hope someday you get that full time higher paying job and you can bring an animal home. Of course the job coming with health insurance would be good too. ;)

We couldn't really afford our 2nd beast but to help with the cost, my daughter agreed to pay for most of her own stuff with her summer job $. That job ended the beginning of the school year and she was supposed to start looking again when field hockey ended. Not much around here for teenagers, but she has mowed my mother's lawn and raked for her. I'm planning most of the tax return to go towards her graduation gift and vet bills. Taxes should be coming back right around same time as yearly vacinations. Our meals are usually "interesting" on weeks there are vet visits. :rotfl2: Their vet care comes 1st, our food 2nd. :rotfl:

I think dogs definitely cost more than cats overall. Not sure why that is (maybe they get into more trouble??!). We've had both and the dogs nearly bled us dry! We now have two indoor-only cats. Too many perils lurking out in the woods! They are pretty inexpensive to feed, and once you get past the initial vet stuff (first shots and spay/neuter) it's not so bad. I think the only shot they need by law is rabies, which, after the first one, is only every 3 years. Most states also have a spay/neuter assistance program to help with cost.

Dogs are like children that never grow up. They always need you to help them go to the bathroom (or they go on your floor), they depend on you for food and companionship, and they're always eating something that gets them sick.

Cats are like no other. As long as you pay fealty to them by giving them food and changing their littler box, you can leave them for a few days. But if you leave too long, they will poop in your bed. Since we like to travel, and I hate being licked by animals, we take the risk of cats.

Speaking of which, my black cat Goofy just jumped on my lap to inform me my laptop is taking up too much of his space.

Oh yes, dogs cost much more and the heavier the animal is, the more it costs. Besides the great spay/neuter assistance programs, some shelters fix everything before they leave. That includes 8 week old kittens and puppies. My dogs bleed us dry. No wonder I never go out to eat or to the movies. :rotfl2:

Some people use dog doors so they don't have to let their dog in and out. We installed one in our entryway. It's the largest you can buy so I didn't want one on my kitchen door. It wouldn't matter if I locked the door, people would be able to crawl in the hole. :rotfl: Some people with small dogs use pads or a litterbox.

It's much easier to go away when you just have cats. You wouldn't like one of my cats, he likes to lick my face when I'm trying to sleep. Pretty annoying.
